Opis:: Objective: to explain the meaning and to illustrate technical artifacts (aliasing as well as the ring artifact) and beam hardening (metal artifact) that can be present in the dentomaxillofacial cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), and to check the accessibility of free illustrations of these artifacts in medical publications. Material and methods: One observer applied five search equations using database PubMed. The exclusion criteria were: experimental studies, animal studies, studies not related to dentomaxillofacial area, and articles with closed access. There was no time limit for the search of articles. We limited our search to English and French language. Results: Only 3 articles out of 434 publications were retained after application of inclusion/exclusion criteria. In these articles only 4 annotated figures were freely accessible in medical publications from PubMed. In this paper we presented examples of aliasing, ring artifact, and beam artifacts from I-CAT, Carestream 9000 3D (Kodak), and Planmeca Promax 3D Mid CBCT. The intensity of beam hardening artifact varies from major degradation of image (i.e., subperiosteal implants, bridges, crowns, dental implants, and orthodontic fix appliances), through mean degradation (screws securing titanium mesh, head of mini-implant) to no beam hardening on metallic devices (orthodontic anchorage, orthodontic contention wire) or on dense objects (endodontic treatments, impression materials, Lego box). Some beam hardening artifacts arising from nasal piercing, hairs, or hearing aid device may be present on the image but they will not disturb the evaluation of the field of view. Conclusions: reduction of aliasing artifact is related with the improvement of detectors quality. The presence of ring artifact means that CBCT device has lost its calibration. The field of view (FOV) needs to be reduce in order to avoid scanning regions susceptible to beam hardening (e.g., metallic restorations, dental implants). Finally, the accessibility to open knowledge on technique -related CBCT artifacts seems extremely limited when searching at PubMed database.

Opis:: The article analyzes the phenomenon of exhibitions dedicated to comic books, which are displayed in museum and gallery spaces. It presents the theory of contemporary narrative exhibitions. Using some tools of the latest research on the art of exhibition, the author analyzes the status of a comic book in a museum landscape. He reflects on the diversity of the comic book’s presence in everyday practices, the other nature of comic's experience by a visitor, and a link between comic books and other media, especially film. He describes the role of the viewer, who becomes the object in relations with a comic book transformed into a subject as a museum artifact.

Opis:: The double aorta artifact was described and studied thoroughly twenty-five years ago. Despite this, it is still not commonly known today and can cause diagnostic difficulty. Total aortic duplication can be considered an anatomic defect whilst partial duplication mimics aortic dissection. In the literature, this artifact has been compared with a very rare anomaly, i.e. the occurrence of two aortas in one patient. Currently, however, the differentiation of this artifact from abdominal aortic dissection seems to be of greater significance. The double aorta image occurs when ultrasound waves encounter prismatic fat tissue of the anterior abdominal wall. This artifact is more frequently observed in children and athletic young adults since the structure of this anatomic region in these individuals is conductive to the occurrence of this phenomenon. Moreover, it can be observed more often when curved transducers are used. Due to all these factors, an ultrasound beam undergoes greater refraction and make the artifact clearer. This phenomenon is usually easily recognizable and avoidable, but it sometimes might cause diagnostic difficulty. Obtaining an image of double abdominal vessels on ultrasound examination in transverse sections requires further inspection of the aorta in a different (sagittal) plane. This is not always possible due to poor patient preparation for scanning. Symmetrical flow on Doppler sonography is a typical feature of this artifact. Finally, magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography can be considered to rule out a pathology.
W badaniu ultrasonograficznym, jak w mało którym badaniu obrazowym, obserwuje się różnorodne artefakty. Od doświadczenia ultrasonografisty zależy ich rozpoznanie oraz prawidłowe zinterpretowanie obrazu. Artefaktami określamy echa, które nie odpowiadają żadnej strukturze anatomicznej. Powstają one na skutek założeń koniecznych do opracowania sygnału ultradźwiękowego, tj.: • prędkość ultradźwięków we wszystkich narządach i strukturach jest taka sama; • impulsy te rozchodzą się tylko w jednym kierunku, wzdłuż prostej (nie ulegają załamaniu); • głowica wysyła ekstremalnie krótkie impulsy ultradźwiękowe;• nieznaczna część wiązki ultradźwiękowej zostaje odbita/ rozproszona na każdej powierzchni granicznej; • odbite ultradźwięki wracają do głowicy bez dalszych odbić (bezpośrednio). Natomiast zjawisko zdwojenia aorty powstaje, gdy nie zostały spełnione powyższe założenia. Kluczowe dla omawianego artefaktu są następujące fakty: • poszczególne tkanki przewodzą ultradźwięki z różną prędkością; • impulsy wysłane przez głowicę oraz powracające echa ulegają załamaniu na granicy sąsiadujących tkanek (nie rozchodzą się wzdłuż jednej prostej)(1). Opis:: This paper presents a method of recognizing EOG artifacts in an EEG signal. Moreover, it shows the possibility of determining the direction of eye movement. The idea behind this method is to develop a hybrid brain-computer interface relying on SSVEP phenomena and EOG artifacts acquired from the EEG signal. Recognition of an EOG event and its direction can be used to improve the SSVEP detection accuracy, overall system responsiveness, and increase the information transfer rate (ITR). Eye movement direction is recognized using a decision tree and histogram-based features calculated from EEG signals recorded in Fp1-O1 and Fp2-O2 points. The accuracy of 75% was achieved for a group of 8 subjects, while the average precision of detecting movement direction in horizontal plane was 78%.

Opis:: The paper focuses on artifact denominations – compound idiomatic phrases that encode the information on a person’s anthropometric characteristics (those of body, virtues, behavior, etc.) in artifact‑naming items (based on the Ukrainian, Polish and English languages). The study elaborates on the system of significative and denotative descriptors – two‑component entities that represent a metaphoric mapping of the source (significative descriptors) and target (denotative descriptors) domains. The significative descriptors are reduced to the classes of the artifact signifiers; among those are the classes of clothes, household articles, food, weapon, facilities, transport and symbols. The denotative descriptors represent the classes of the artifact signified; among those are the classes of a person’s social, value‑based and semiotic characteristics. The ultimate goal of the study is to characterize regular relations between the two classes of descriptors in the contrasted languages. The analysis provided in the paper proceeds from the assumption that any artifact‑naming process takes place on the basis of extended stereotyping – a cognitive mechanism that provides for the encoding of additional, complementary senses in artifact‑naming items. The study concludes that artifact‑naming processes in the Ukrainian, Polish and English languages respond to the communities’ demands for representing a person’s internal, spiritual world within the concept of external material objects (artifacts). The analysis reveals the tendency of artifact designations towards a social, axiological and semiotic conceptualization of a person’s artifact world.

Opis:: This paper contributes to the enhancing of a comparative study on the creative implementation of teaching methods in physical education sessions. We aim to determine the evolution of teacher representations related to the understanding of the particular practice of pole vaulting and its teaching by integrating a computer-video element into an educational environment. This study was carried out in two graduate classes of high school including (N = 44) students. These are two groups aged between 15 and 18 (One group of students was provided with verbal and gestural communication, while the other was asked to view a video). The pole vault learning cycle consisted of 14 sessions, divided between two sessions per week. The findings were consistent with the difference between methods of teaching in line with the respective tasks. Through this experiment and feedback from the lessons, we have been able to conclude that the use of Computer Communication Technology and specifically of the element of video footage, contributed to progress in motor learning for the large majority of students from the all group study. This research is open to the understanding and appreciation of how to best design video lectures that encourage learning and the development of knowledge.

Ich wystąpienie niejednokrotnie utrudnia lub uniemożliwia postawienie właściwej diagnozy, przez co badania takie muszą być powtarzane, prowadząc do zwiększenia narażenia pacjenta na promieniowanie jonizujące. Znajomość charakterystycznych cech poszczególnych typów artefaktów oraz źródeł ich powstawania jest kluczem do uzyskania poprawnych, diagnostycznych obrazów.
In the age of today’s X-ray machines, taking the perfect image may seem like a simple task. However, even the most experienced radiogrphers face the problem of artifacts in the X-ray images in their practice. Their occurrence often makes it difficult or impossible to make a proper diagnosis, therefore such tests must be repeated, leading to an increased patient’s exposure to ionizing radiation. Knowing the characteristic features of types of artifacts and the sources of their formation is the key to obtaining correct, diagnostic images.

Opis:: The issue of the language of theology in the practical actions of the Church is first a question of how are these actions understood and of the form the theoretical thinking about it takes. Nowadays, alongside the notion of “pastoral theology,” the notion of “practical theology” is gaining place. This choice of wording emphasizes the whole of the Church’s action and not only the ones of the pastors. However, there is another meaning of practical theology that can be discussed, i.e. “theology in practice.” Marcel Viau, a Canadian protestant theologian, suggests calling practical theology with an Anselmian-like term: “fides quaerens verbum” (faith seeking the word). The notion of “word” should be understood broadly as any act by which the Church communicates faith or the discourse of the Church. Viau introduces the notion of “theological artifact,” which stands for every work of culture that can be seen as an element of discourse of the Church. In this way, Viau broadens the understanding of the Church’s action not only for its specific pastoral action, but also for the widely understood channel of cultural transfer of faith. Consequently, the language of practical theology transforms into the language of theology in practice.

Wolica is a former village on the border of Ursynów and Wilanów, incorporated to Warsaw in 1951. The au-thor has been doing field research in Wolica for her PhD since 2019. In the article, she describes the behav-ioural, material and linguistic artefacts of Wolica’s folk culture. She also quotes excerpts from ethnographic interviews with residents of the area. The evoked artefacts testifying to Wolica’s folk past have a different meaning today than they did previously. They are a carrier of what had been, linking the past with the pres-ent. They also serve the inhabitants of Wolica for a self-folklorisation that allows the former village to sur-vive.

Przywołane artefakty świadczące o ludowej przeszłości Wolicy dziś mają inne znaczenie niż dawniej. Są nośnikiem tego, co było, łącząc minione z teraźniejszym.
