Opis:
Attachment styles have been analysed in the context of development and functioning of children for decades. It seems interesting to analyse the attachment styles also in the context of adult life and psychological well-being. The article presents own research concerning the relationship between the attachment styles and mental health among young adults. There were 96 participants, 60 females and 36 males. The Attachment Styles Questionnaire, the General Health Questionnaire (GHO-28), and an authorial survey were used. A statistical analysis showed a positive correlation between anxiousambivalent attachment style and somatic symptoms, unrest, depression symptoms, and avoidant behaviours. A secure attachment style correlated negatively with depression symptoms.

Opis:
The literature points that attachment is key mechanism in the development of people. According to the attachment theory, the experience of neglect, abandonment and other early traumas have influence on forming the dysfunctions of emotions and personality pathology. The aim of this article is the verification of the thesis about relation between attachment style and personality disorders. The analysis of results of 155 participants has been conducted (persons in the similar age, similar educational level, similar number of females and males). The diagnosis of personality disorder was based on SCID-II (Structured Clinical Interview for Axis – II), and additionally confirmed by PDQ-4 Hyler Inventory. To examine the attachment style the Plopa’s Attachment Styles Questionnaire and the Revised Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory (ECR-R designed by Fraley et al., 2000), were used. The multiple regression model was used to test whether attachment styles maybe the predictors for personality disorders. The current results partly support the Lyddon and Sherry’ thesis. The main predictor for the relations between attachment and personality disorders is the anxious attachment style.

Opis:
This publication refers to the J. Bowlby’s attachment theory. This theory says that in human there is a biologically conditioned tendency to search and create proximity to significant persons. Followers of Bowlby – C. Hazan i P. Shaver considered romantic relation as an attachment relation. They have found that both in child-parent and romantic relation the same biological system is responsible for emotional and behavioral evolution of relation. The base of attachment is emotional and psychical proximity. In this work it is emphasized how important for creation of attachment in romantic relation first sexual contacts are. It is also underlined that breaking romantic or child-mother relation may provoke serious traumatism. The author of the publication claims that among factors influencing proximity in sexual relation are: emotional proximity, sex (stronger impact in case of women), earlier effort to abstain from this relation (eg. religiously motivated), whether the partner is or is not the first one (stronger impact in case of the first sexual partner).

Opis:
This paper contains an analysis of the determinants of predispositions of individuals to cope with stress in adulthood, very likely shaped in childhood. The theoretical part defines stress and ways to cope with it and describes the conclusions reached to date of studies on attachment styles determinants to cope with stress. Presents the results of the author’s own research showing the preferences of choosing different strategies to cope with stress depending on an attachment style shaped in childhood. The research conducted in 2013 and 2014 was participated by 180 women and 180 men aged 20-40 (M = 28.99, SD = 4.23), living in the Zachodniopomorskie and Lubuskie Voivodeships in Poland. Participants filled in questionnaires defining their ways of coping with stress and their attachment style. The research results obtained show that the respondents who the most frequently manifest active coping with stress and seeking support in difficult situations come from families that built in their child a secure attachment style. Helplessness and avoidant behaviours are more often evinced in stressful situations by the respondents brought up in families who built an anxiety-ambivalent and an avoidance attachment style.

Opis:
Attachment style and partner relationships in early adulthood Attachment is the basis for the creation of close interpersonal relationships. The destination of the analysis was to identify whether there is a link between attachment style and partner relationships and to determine whether factors such as: a form of relationship, gender, length of relationship, education, having children, number of previous relationships are important to the quality of relationships and the attachment partners’s style. The study involved 120 people (marriage, engagement, cohabitation). Used “The Intimacy, Passion, Commitment Questionnaire” by Acker and Davis (1992, Wojciszke, 2005) expanded by an additional scale of “satisfaction from the relationship,” Partner Relations Questionnaire” by Kurt Hahlweg and “The Attatchment Style Questionnaire” for Mieczysław Plopa. The results showed that the attachment style of partners is important for their relationship. It was found that the form and length of relationship, number of previous partners, children, education and gender are important for some relationship partners. The form of relationship and number of previous partners are also important for the secure attachment style. The obtained data showed that the attachment styles affect the quality of relationships.

Opis:
In the present article there has been described a connection between three dimensional model of empathy and attachment styles in close relationships of young adults. The study was conducted in a group of 120 people (60 women, 60 men; 38 cohabitant pairs, 22 marriages). The participants fi lled in the following questionnaires: The Scale of Empathic Sensitiveness, which measures empathic concern, personal distress and perspective taking, and The Questionnaire of Attachment Styles, which measures the following styles: the secure style, the anxious-ambivalent style and the avoidant style. The results indicate that there exists a connection between empathy and attachment styles. The secure style correlates positively with perspective taking, the anxious-ambivalent style correlates positively with empathic concern and personal distress, the avoidant style correlates positively with personal distress and negatively with perspective taking. The study revealed that women achieved higher scores on empathic concern and personal distress than men did, but no sex diff erences in manifested attachment styles were observed. Moreover, the type of relationship (marriage vs. cohabitation) diff erentiated scores on the anxious-ambivalent style and personal distress dimension, where cohabitants scored higher.
W niniejszym artykule opisano związek między trójwymiarowym modelem empatii a stylami przywiązania w bliskich związkach młodych dorosłych. W badaniu wzięło udział 120 osób (60 kobiet i 60 mężczyzn; 38 związków kohabitacyjnych i 22 związki małżeńskie). Uczestnicy badania wypełnili następujące kwestionariusze: Skalę Wrażliwości Empatycznej (SWE) mierzącą empatyczną troskę, osobistą przykrość i przyjmowanie perspektywy oraz Kwestionariusz Stylów Przywiązaniowych (KSP) mierzący przynależność do jednego ze stylów: bezpiecznego, lękowo-ambiwalentnego oraz unikowego. Wyniki badania wskazują istnienie związku między empatią a stylami przywiązania. Styl bezpieczny dodatnio koreluje z wymiarem przyjmowania perspektywy, styl lękowo-ambiwalentny dodatnio koreluje z wymiarem empatycznej troski i osobistej przykrości, a styl unikowy koreluje dodatnio z osobistą przykrością i ujemnie koreluje z przyjmowaniem perspektywy. Badania wykazały następujące różnice płciowe: wyższe wyniki w wymiarach empatycznej troski i osobistej przykrości osiągnęły kobiety aniżeli mężczyźni.

Opis:
Culturally defined traditions describe the tasks of women and men resulting from the fact of having children and the rules that should be subject to pregnancy and childbirth. In the context of the emerging paradigm of masculinity and paternity, there is now a clear tendency to appreciate the role of the father, leading to a significant expansion of his competence, including the area of procreation. Modern fathers are seeking new opportunities for them to engage in the development of their child at the stage of expectation of his birth, thereby confirming and consolidating his social status. The specificity of experiencing the gestation period makes it a fatherly commitment conditioned by the quality of the relationship that connects the partners. One of its determinants is attachment styles, regarded as a resource that is at the disposal of partners, having a patently significant influence on shaping the relationship between them, and thus the level of involvement of future fathers in the development of the conceived child. The research presented in this paper pointed to the existence of positive relationships between safe attachment to the partner and engagement in both general and emotional and behavioral dimensions. In addition, they show the relationship of the engagement with non-secure attachment patterns. Men who were anxiously-ambivalent were more likely to have cognitive performance and, in turn, less likely to be involved in the behavioral engagement.

Opis:
The basic principle of attachment theory is the assumption that early childhood attachment relationships with significant others (primary attachment figure) are the pattern for the later romantic relationships in adulthood (with a romantic partner). Four questionnaire methods were applied to diagnose the quality of relationships in adult life: Plopa’s Attachment Styles Questionnaire (KSM); Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) in Juczyński adaptation, de Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale (DJGLS) and Pospiszyl’s Marital Happiness Questionnaire (KSM). 250 married couples with different marital experience were subjected. The study proved the existence of statistical relationships between the secure attachment styles, well-being, loneliness and the marital satisfaction. The research confirmed the mediating impact of loneliness and psychological well-being on the marital satisfaction of adults with different attachment styles. As it turned out, the marital satisfaction can be seriously lessened by loneliness in safely attached adults and well-being can enhance this satisfaction in insecurely attached adults.

Psychological determinants of efficiency loss : attachment styles and burnout
Autorzy:
Dyląg, Anna
Opis:
Purpose: The aim of this article is to present the documented relationships between individual attachment styles reported by adults, and job burnout defined as a syndrome of work efficiency loss. In addition to highlighting the role of childhood patterns and their impact on adult professional life, the article also discusses direction of practical use of this interdisciplinary framework in the field of HR. Design/methodology/approach: The study of the literature and research findings related to the theory of attachment and its correlates with burnout, as well as the study of the current reports on burnout scale, definition and legal regulations. Findings: Evaluation of the research findings revealed the gap in theoretical knowledge and practical application of the attachment concept in organizations, especially with regard to Polish workplaces and burnout problem. Research limitations/implications: Application of attachment concept in burnout research may require a dedicated tool with reference to work setting, as proposed by Leier et al., 2015. Practical implications: The article promotes interdisciplinary approach, also with possibility of use in multicultural work settings; introduces a relatively new framework for stress/burnout intervention and prevention aimed at increasing quality of social environment and support systems. Research on the relationship between attachment style and occupational burnout has implications for HRM. Understanding employees' attachment types can assist organizations in adapting stress management and burnout prevention strategies by creating a supportive work environment, attentive recruitment and leadership, adjusting coaching and mentoring techniques, and promoting autonomy and extensive support for employees. Social implications: In the face of currently observed burnout scale, both in Poland and globally, it is crucial to undertake actions toward reducing its spread. Building employees’ awareness and stress resilience through better self-knowledge and modification of less effective operational models (i.e. non–secure attachment style), may be valuable for employees and managers. Research on relationship between attachment styles and burnout also provides a solid basis for organizational level interventions, as a better care and investments in more balanced and harmonious work environments. Originality/value: Application of the psychological concept of attachment style typology to the field of work psychology, especially in Polish context; identification of the possible areas of implementation with the use of HR tools in reducing burnout.

Opis:
The article presents study results concerning secondary school students’ attitudes to life, which are treated as a mechanism of revealing aggressive behaviour in interpersonal relations. The following have been used: the concept of attitudes to life (scripts) in terms of transactional analysis, the concept of attachment styles by K. Bartholomew and L.M. Horowitz and the concept of aggressiveness as emotional reactivity. Analysis of the results has shown significant relationships (negative correlation) between the image of other people and aggressiveness and its dimensions (direct, indirect and verbal aggression, resistance, emotional irritability). Self-image is negatively correlated only with emotional irritability.
