The Implicit Association Test as a measure of implicit consumer attitudes (2001). D. Maison, A. Greenwald, R. Bruin. Polish Psychological Bulletin, 32 (1), 61-69
Opis:
This article reports two experiments that sought to determine if the Implicit Association Test (IAT: Greenwald, McGhee & Schwartz, 1998), a method for assessing strengths of automatic associations, can be applied to measure consumer attitudes. The first experiment compared implicit attitudes toward juices and sodas. Analysis revealed significant correlation between IAT-measured implicit attitudes and explicit measures of attitudes and explicit measures of attitudes and behavior toward these product categories. The second experiment investigated implicit attitudes of female Ss toward low calorie products and high calorie products. The IAT attitude measure correlated with dieting activity: Ss who had eating habits restricting high calorie food intake showed implicit attitudes favoring low calorie products

Opis:
Fertility decline in developed countries over recent five decades and persisting low fertility in the remarkable number of countries are increasingly attributed to changing gender roles, particularly to incompatibilities between institutional adjustments of individual- and family- oriented institutions as well as within the family and changing perceptions on social roles of women and men. These arguments are voiced also when debating on low fertility in Poland. The article focuses on perceptions of gender roles and their diversity across population groups which differ by socio-demographic attributes. Additionally, possible influences of parental home on opinions about gender roles are accounted for. The data coming from the Generations and Gender Survey, carried out in Poland in 2010/2011, made it possible to define two synthetic variables which described attitudes towards gender equality in the social sphere and in the private sphere (a responsibility for a child). Descriptive results confirmed findings of other studies: the gender attitudes are more diversified among women than men, especially as regards gender equality in the social sphere, women show more egalitarian attitudes than men, and within an age increase a social approval for gender equality declines. The generalized linear mixed models of two synthetic gender variables were used to identify predictors of gender attitudes across two birth cohorts of women and men – those born either in the years 1950–1969 or in the years 1970–1989. Among individual characteristics education, religiosity and place of residence were found out – as expected – the main predictors of gender attitudes. Contrary to expectations, labour market status, marital status and a number of children did not always play a significant role for distinguished cohorts of men and women. Economic activity showed its impact on women’s gender attitudes only. There are also some signs that in the 1970–1989 cohorts younger people are less in favour of gender equality than those over 30 years of age. Parental home attributes (place of residence at age 15, mother’ education and mother’s economic acitivity, number of siblings, and religiosity) were displayed as relevant predictors of gender attitudes for both birth cohorts of men and women. However, paid work of a mother seemed to be a weaker predictor than expected.

Opis:
Understanding the activity of the minds of consumers is one of the main questions tried to be solved by many scientists in the field of consumer research. Still studies are often based on tests of self-assessment, observation, often ignoring the unconscious behavior of consumers. Often the decision-making processes largely occur on a subconscious level . (G. Zaltmann, 2003) Moreover, only 5% of knowledge is conscious knowledge. Unconscious processes, allow users faster and more efficient decisions than would be possible with a fully conscious processing of the stimulus. The financial services market is one of the most important elements of a market economy. In addition, the financial services market undergoes dynamic changes and at the same time there are no studies of the actual attitudes of consumers (both conscious and hidden) in relation to a virtual financial services, in particular in respect of the banking services market, which is one of the fastest growing high-tech service markets. After secondary sources analysis, projection methods research was made. For the purposes of research, special test was prepared including projection techniques like association expression and supplement tests. This method enabled preliminary identification of hidden and conscious consumer attitudes towards virtual banking services and to introduce first conclusions for further research.

Opis:
Palliative care and euthanasia have become the subject of ethical and political debate in Poland. However, the voice of nurses is rarely heard. The aim of this study is to explore the perception of palliative care and euthanasia among recent university bachelor degree graduates and experienced nurses in Poland. Specific objectives include: self-assessment of the understanding of these terms, recognition of clinical cases, potential acceptability of euthanasia, and an evaluation of attitudes towards palliative care and euthanasia. This is an exploratory study. A convenience sample of 206 recent graduates and 252 experienced nurse practitioners were interviewed. A structured questionnaire was used for collecting and interpreting data. Subjective perception of the terms ‘palliative care’ and ‘euthanasia’ was high and consistent with the recognition of clinical cases. The majority of the nurses excluded euthanasia from palliative care. They recognized personal philosophy of life as the most influential factor affecting attitudes towards euthanasia. The importance of the law was valued more highly by the experienced nurses.

Postawy młodzieży w wieku dorastania wobec zjawisk przestępczości
Attitudes of adolescents growing up towards crime
Autorzy:
Terenkiewicz, Klaudyna
Opis:
Praca składa się z czterech rozdziałów. W pierwszym z nich zawarta jest analiza treści literatury przedmiotu. Dokonałam w nim wyjaśnień terminologicznych pojęć: postawa, przestępstwo, przestępca, przestępczość, przestępczość nieletnich czy postawa wobec przestępczości. Przedstawiłam charakterystykę rozwoju psychofizycznego młodzieży wieku dorastania, scharakteryzowałam zjawiska przestępczości: kradzież, bójka i pobicie, hakerstwo, posiadanie i używanie narkotyków oraz dokonałam charakterystyki przestępczości nieletnich. W rozdziale czwartym zawarte zostały uogólnienia i wnioski z badań.
The paper consists of four chapters. In the first of them is content analysis literature. I have made a clarification of terminology concepts of attitude, the offender, crime, juvenile delinquency, or attitude towards crime. I presented the characteristics of youth and mental development of adolescence, characterized the phenomenon of crime: theft, fight and assault, hacking, possession and use of drugs and examined the characteristics of juvenile delinquency. I Includes the issue of attitudes, their constituents. The second part of this paper contains a description of the methodology own research conducted in Debica, a small town, situated in the Podkarpackie province. The study embraced a group of 98 students of secondary classes of junior high school and high school. During the research I used the following methods: interview, a questionnaire with scaling and analysis of documents. The third chapter has analyzed the results of accumulated research. I paid attention to the sources from which adolescents derive information about crime, the frequency with which young people can hear about individual crimes, the attitude of young people into crime and persons who have committed them, and the determinants of attitudes of junior high school students and high school. The fourth chapter are contained generalizations and conclusions of the study.

Opis:
Implicit attitudes toward elderly persons espoused by three age groups: young, middle-aged, and old adultsThe purpose of this paper was to describe the implicit attitudes toward elderly in general, and its typical patterns in three age groups: young, middle and old adults. The research is grounded in a sample of 90 subjects divided into three sub-groups homogeneous in terms of sex. They reflect criteria of early adulthood (n = 30), middle adulthood (n = 30), and late adulthood (n = 30). To measure implicit attitudes affective and semantic priming procedure was used. The activation of ageism and aging stereotypes was investigated by manipulating both the valence and the stereotypicality of trait stimuli. Research findings show that implicit attitudes toward old persons are in general neither negative nor positive, but in age groups of middle and old adults they are stereotypical. In these groups implicit ageing stereotypes are complex: both negative and positive. These findings suggest that implicit attitudes toward elderly persons are ambivalent.

How early onset of COVID-19 changed vaccine-related attitudes : a longitudinal study

Opis:
The paper investigates how the onset of the global COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the attitudes and beliefs of a previously anti-vaccine and vaccine-undecided population: how it changed their anti-vaccine beliefs and related arguments, perceptions of scientists’ credibility, as well as what their beliefs about COVID-19 are and what protective action they undertake against it. We used preexisting data from a 2018 study, where we identified groups of anti-vaccine and vaccine-undecided individuals (N = 365) whom we reached out to again in April/May 2020 (during the first months of the pandemic, when no COVID-19 vaccine was available). An online survey was used to measure changes in attitudes toward vaccination, reasons for vaccine rejection, attitudes toward scientists, and (at Measure 2) to measure attitudes toward COVID-19 and protective action against it. Results indicated a general pro-vaccine shift in attitudes, as well as reduced support for all anti-vaccine arguments. Surprisingly, we also found a negative shift in the sample’s perceptions of scientists’ agency and communion. Anti-vaccine individuals were also much less likely to employ any protective measures and had the lowest levels of fear associated with COVID-19. These results show that the initial stages of the COVID-19 outbreak caused a positive change in vaccine attitudes, especially in the vaccine-undecided group. At the same time, strongly anti-vaccine individuals were likely to reject protection against COVID.

Opis:
It is indisputable that emotions predominate in shaping political attitudes. This is corroborated by the development of political marketing, whose techniques and means are mainly directed at voters’ emotions. The paper presents the results of research into the affective component in the political attitudes of university students. To a large extent the analysis confirms the hypothesis that religious organizations have a significant impact on developing a positive emotional attitude towards right-wing politicians and parties, whereas the media strongly influence the emergence of similar attitudes towards liberal political entities. Advocates of the right wing declare their commitment to national values and patriotism, while demonstrating a relatively passive attitude to politics. The respondents whose opinions indicate liberal sympathies emphasize their satisfaction with life and intention to be active in the field of politics. The important conclusion to be drawn from this research is that the family contin- ues to have a significant impact on the emotional political attachments of the young, whereas the influence of school in this regard is definitely limited.
