Opis:
A common assumption in product value literature is that authenticity is what contemporary consumers value the most. However, as this paper illustrates, the meaning of authenticity is unclear and the term appears foreign to product development practitioners. The purpose of this paper is to explore in what ways product development professionals talk about product value in general and how this relates to authenticity. The analysis of the interviews reveals that product developers must embrace authenticity as a holistic framework if the phenomenon is to be constructive for companies within the product development industry. In line with the concept of authenticity as a multi-dimensional framework, this paper suggests that authenticity does not solely result from certain intrinsic tangible or intangible product characteristics, and that commercially strong products and brands do not automatically become ‘authentic’. The contribution of this paper to the product development field is a framework for a multi-dimensional construct of authenticity, and an account for what representatives within selected companies talk about when asked about how they create consumer value, and how they contribute to valuable consumer experiences. The findings are analysed and discussed in the context of literature from product development, brand management and marketing management.

Opis:
Designing English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses is a challenging task. The teacher often has to cope with time constraints, shortage of resources as well as his or her insufficient knowledge of a given field of study. Students enrolled in a course are often consulted about the source of materials for instruction. The process of developing ESP tasks can be made easier and less time-consuming by means of employing student-generated communication activities which draw on learner-based approaches to teaching. The paper contains a collection of student-generated tasks that can be successfully used at the preparatory, follow-up or main stage of an ESP class. In the author’s teaching context on numerous occasions they have triggered lively exchanges between students: discussion, brainstorming, or negotiation. Student-generated activities naturally develop collaboration and autonomy, which are essential in the workplace environment. Just like communication skills, they have to be taught explicitly due to the fact that in the area of soft skills there exist considerable differences at the personal and culture-specific level. Finally, since students’ specialist knowledge is usually much better than that of the teacher, student-generated activities tend to be to the point, up-to date, or more precise with respect to the course objectives.

Opis:
The main objective of the following paper is to present the teaching rationale and premises underlying the development of materials and an aviation based syllabus designed for officer-cadets of the Polish Air Force University. Additionally, as a practical illustration of implementing content-based instruction in the PAFU classroom, the gradual process underlying the personally developed tasks integrating not only contextualised grammar and vocabulary, but also receptive and productive skills was meticulously described. Methods: Synthesis of theoretical concepts encompassing elements of aviation safety studies - the SHELL model, English teaching methods and approaches and psychology - the theory of Multiple Intelligence was made to outline the authoress’s interdisciplinary approach to teaching English. Comparison was applied to link the process of developing materials to officer-cadets’ flight training. Literature pertaining to syllabus design was analysed to determine the type of the designed aviation-based syllabus. Findings from applying diagnostic surveys were presented to describe officer-cadets’ reception of the aviation-based lesson and syllabus. Results: The analysis of both the designed aviation-based syllabus including sample teaching materials and positive feedback obtained from surveys conducted among officer-cadets prove the advisability and necessity for adopting an interdisciplinary approach to teaching officer-cadets at the Polish Air Force University. Conclusions: The proposed aviation-based syllabus including well-designed materials reflecting an interdisciplinary teaching approach is a comprehensive teaching solution adjusted to officer-cadets’ learning needs and tailored to their military milieu The implementation and further improvement of such an innovative solution is feasible provided more teaching staff is involved in the outlined process.
