Opis:
Though the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) systems are wide use in modern vehicles, they are manufactured by a few companies and supplied to engine manufacturers. Automotives with factory made ECUs designed to maximize the performance while minimize cost. However, factory made ECUs (FECU) have closed software and hardware. The control gain, lookup tables, and constants used in the algorithms are also calibrated for a particular engine design. Unlike the carburettor, these systems cannot be opened and studied under different operating conditions to determine their characteristics and how they influence the performance of an engine. They can be used as black boxes and work only at specified modes as determined by their electronic control unit (ECU) and more over the algorithms and their implementation are maintained as trade secret by the developers. In the research work, it often becomes necessary to study parameters like injection duration, injection timing, sensor responses etc. to ascertain their effects. Thus in such cases the factory made ECU supplied with the injection system cannot be used. The required need is fulfilled by developing a customized electronic controller that would be suitable for studying the variations at engine operating points. The project involved the development of a research ECU (RECU) using reconfigurable field programmable gate arrays (FPGA) based embedded control system for a four-stroke port fuel injected gasoline engine. A calibrated fuel map is generated for various operating points of the engine using virtual instrumentation (VI) based software while simulating functions of sensors. From the mapping, the fuel injection time and fuel delivery quantity is estimated for the required running conditions of the engine. The developed Research Electronic Control Unit (RECU) could reveal gasoline engine performance in particular for research-based applications as it involves frequent programme development and control implementations.

Opis:
In this research, an experimental study is presented, which extends the usage of eddy current and load sensors in progressive stamping tools to optimize and continuously monitor the stamping process. The purpose of the research was to automatically detect material scrap before it leaves imprints on the part and based on the sensor’s readings, determine the optimal tool bottom position. The scrap thickness that needs to be detected was established in an experiment by visual evaluation of the result. To determine the optimal bottom position, a linear regression method was used, and the results were evaluated by part quality parameter. The research results consist of separate detection steps and the conclusion was made only after the serial type production. Overall results of scrap detection were influenced by the design of the existing tool. The bottom position detection consists of various readings interpretations and multi-step method descriptions. Based on the acquired results of both methods, implementing the in–die sensors was considered successful and applicable to new tools.

Opis:
The paper is focused on the issue of teaching metrology. It presents the method of wireless measurement of pressure and temperature of air in a car wheel. For the cognitive and learning purposes it was created an experimental setup to get familiar with the measuring method and elements of Tire Pressure Measurement System. TPMS is one of the modern safety systems used in the automotive industry. Paper describes the construction and operating principle of key elements of setup, i.e. object, integrated sensors, TPMS system, control instruments, the format of data frame transferred between TPMS and computer, CRC codes. Furthermore, there were presented the basic features of two software tools working with Windows based PC computer or embedded system. There was discussed a proposal of carrying out the measurements in simulated conditions with ability to change pressure and also temperature of air inside the wheel using inner heaters. The software for embedded system let to observe raw sensors' readings and additionally adjusted based on a two-point measurements involving control instruments. The adjusting routine was illustrated with an example for better clarity.
