Opis:: The aim of the paper is to explain the cooperation and processes realized within the industrial networks based on the principles of industrial symbiosis in Denmark, Russia and Slovakia. The identified examples can be characterized as best practices in the field of industrial symbiosis that influences importantly the development of regions, where they are localized. Industrial symbiosis as a voluntary cooperation of enterprises with the aim to optimize production costs and improve the environment could influence positively the development of areas where the companies are operating. The paper includes three examples of ‘best practices’ from Denmark, Russia and Slovakia. The examples refer the wide range of benefits that this kind of cooperation brings.

Opis:: The article presents reflections on the best practices in real estate cross border transactions.Transactions on real estate markets have several aspects that make them highly complex, mostly due to their individual nature – each property is unique in terms of its location, structure and history. Cross-border transactions on the real estate market are becoming increasingly popular as the world becomes more globalized. The growing volume of this type of transaction presents a challenge for the modern real estate lawyer. It is impossible to create an exhaustive guide setting out all the hazards occurring in such transactions. This article addresses this difficult challenge by indicating the most important of them.It is essential and extremely helpful to enter into cooperation with a local counsel who will help us to explain the local specificity and who will take the legal differences into account. In addition, other helpful tools, such as a legal due diligence report or a title insurance Policy, should be carefully considered. One cannot forget about the importance of the local culture and customs, which may prove decisive at the crucial moment of the transaction. Finally, to be effective in working with cross-border clients, lawyers must have a good understanding of how people think and make decisions, and must possess good people skills. Respect for local customs and traditions, as well as understanding the local legal system while securing clients’ interests, is the key to a successful transaction.

Opis:: Finland is at the top in different rankings concerning education. In March 2018 the author of the article had a chance to participate in "Benchmarking Finnish Education System" course in Helsinki and observe and analyze Finnish best practices. In the article, the author tries to describe what she discovered about the educational success of Finnish school and answered the question whether it is possible to apply these elements to Polish educational reality. Writing the article, the author used the materials distributed during the course, either by the organizer or his guests. While quoting statistics, the author mainly referred to online sources, as they are usually regularly updated. The conclusions drawn are the results of the author's observations, as well as the analysis of the reference sources. The author discovered that the critical factors in Finnish educational success are: student and teacher's autonomy, free access to education, equality, no dead ends, and tailor-made school curricula. In the final part of the article, the author writes about the weaknesses of the Finnish system. In conclusion, the author wonders whether it is possible to integrate Finnish best practices into Polish schools.

The aim of the article is to present the best practices of technology roadmapping application to the Polish foresight initiatives. The first part of the article is devoted to presentation of the conceptualisation of the best practices for the context of foresight studies and serves as the proposal of the possible criteria of technology roadmapping method benchmarking. In the second part of the article, there have been presented the results of technology roadmapping evaluation in the context of Polish foresight initiatives with the special emphasis on the best practices. The final part of the article offers recommendations for technology roadmapping application to foresight studies.

Opis:: Credibility and reliability of counter-partners are the most important features required for the efficient functioning of financial markets. Violating these requirements is an important aspect of the operational risk, posed by the human factor – both internal (managers, employees) and external (customers, shareholders, competitors, supervisors). Therefore, having a limited impact on the behaviour of outside persons, the financial institutions formulate high standards towards their own personnel. It concerns formal qualifications and professional experience, as well as specific personality traits and appropriate behaviour in various situations. These standards are specified in numerous recent ethics codes – documents formulating the socalled ‘corporate governance best practices’ in internal and external relations to other people. The aim of this paper is to draw attention to the fact that some of these standards generate in praxis a number of dilemmas or even conflict situations, when there appears a question of to what extent the application of a given rule does not breach other rules. Theoretically, corporate governance practices should be internally consistent. However, everyday experience brings such a multitude of real situations, diverse human characters or individual reactions that there appears a need for a sensible compromise between values of equal importance which, in some cases, prove contradicting.

Opis:: According to the OECD, the city of Malmö is ranked on the fourth position globally in patent applications per 10,000 inhabitants. Presenting this ranking list, Forbes magazine described Malmö as young and diverse. The two other largest Swedish cities, Stockholm and Gothenburg, also scored high – on the 8th and 12th places, respectively. Regarding the presented facts the main aim of the article is to describe both Polish and Swedish systems of supporting new business, crucial from the innovation-creation perspective. These two countries were chosen basing on the fact, that Sweden is one of the most innovative countries globally and it’s start-up supporting system could be an inspiring benchmark for Poland, which is a maternity country for the authoress. Both parts are based on the authoress’ observations as well as direct talks with entrepreneurs and start-up supporting organizations. As an added value of this comparison, the concluding part of the article presents a list of best practices and suggestions for Polish start-ups.

Opis:: Biomasa stanowi pierwsze co do wielkości wykorzystania źródło energii odnawialnej w Polsce. Stosowana jest najczęściej jako paliwo stałe w dużych elektrociepłowniach, ale jej wykorzystanie na poziomie lokalnym jest ciągle niewielkie. Spalanie lokalnie dostępnej biomasy do celów energetycznych umożliwia zaspokojenie zapotrzebowania małych społeczności na ciepło i uniezależnienie się ich od dostaw paliw kopalnych takich jak węgiel czy olej opałowy. Jedną z najkorzystniejszych opcji zabezpieczenia dostaw energii i uniezależnienia się od zewnętrznych dostawców jest obsługa własnej sieci ciepłowniczej. W artykule przedstawiono przykłady zrealizowanych z sukcesem inwestycji polegających na budowie lokalnych systemów ciepłowniczych opartych na biomasie. Prezentowane przykłady dobrych praktyk mogą służyć jako inspiracja do podjęcia działań w kierunku tworzenia lokalnych sieci ciepłowniczych wykorzystujących dostępne na danym terenie zasoby biomasy.
Biomass is the most commonly used renewable energy source in Poland. It is mainly utilized as solid fuel in large power or CHP plants, but its use at the local level is still low. Incineration of biomass that is locally available for energy purposes allows to meet the demand of small communities for heat and increase their independence from supplies of fossil fuels such as coal or fuel oil. One of the most beneficial options for supplying energy and gaining independence from fuel import is the operation of district heating network. The article presents examples of successfully completed investments involving construction of local heating systems based on biomass. Presented examples of good practice can serve as inspiration to take action towards creating district heating networks that use locally available biomass resources.

Opis:: Industry 4.0 promises to make manufacturing processes more efficient using modern technologies like cyber-physical systems, internet of things, cloud computing and big data analytics. Lean Management (LM) is one of the most widely applied business strategies in recent decades. Thus, implementing Industry 4.0 mostly means integrating technologies in companies that already operate according to LM. However, due to the novelty of the topic, research on how LM and Industry 4.0 can be integrated is still under development. This paper explores the synergic relationship between these two domains by identifying six examples of real cases that address LM-Industry 4.0 integration in the extant literature. The goal is to make explicit the best practices that are being implemented by six distinct industrial sectors such as automotive, paper, furniture, healthcare, apparel, and machine manufacturing.
