Opis:
The paper presents a two-dimensional FEM model of burr formation in metal cutting. Abaqus/Explicit software was used for the build of the model. The workpiece geometry, the tool and the cutting parameters were modelled. Physical properties and the method of deformation and fracture of the workpiece material is described using Johnson Cook's constitutive law and the ductile damage criterion. The simulation of the edge formation process during orthogonal cutting was carried out for different depths of cut and cutting speeds. The results of these simulations allowed the verification of the FEM model. The components of the resultant cutting force measured during the actual cutting process with the values of these forces determined based on FEM simulation of this process were compared. The geometry of burrs formed during the actual and simulated the edge forming process was assessed. The analysis showed that the FEM model built enabled a correct prediction of the shape of the workpiece edge and the estimation of geometric features of the edge.

Opis:
In metal cutting and blanking processes, one of the primary technological challenges is the formation of burrs on the surfaces of cut parts, especially in thin materials. Many companies face the issue of excessive waste due to burr formation after cutting. Understanding the causes of this defect is complex. This paper presents the current state of knowledge and the authors' research on reducing burr occurrence on cut surfaces. The conditions for achieving a high-quality cut edge were determined through numerical and experimental studies. With the increase of the rake angle in shear-slitting, the burr height decreases. When cutting with trimming, the cutting clearance value should be within hc = 1-3% of the material thickness. When blanking, the cutting clearance should be less than 10% of the thickness of the material being cut. The findings support selecting optimal process conditions to minimise waste after cutting.

Opis:
In this work, an effort has been made to determine the effect of different shape surgical burr on the thermogenesis during bone osteotomy. The abrasion during bone grinding leads to heat generation and subsequently rise in the temperature which may have adverse effects such as osteonecrosis, blood coagulation in the carotid artery, damage to sciatic nerves, and even loss of vision. So, mitigating the temperature rise during bone grinding is of paramount importance. Especially, in endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA) in which nasal passage is used for the inserting the grinding burr and reaching the target region. The miniature abrasion can significantly increase the temperature and hence leads to the thermal damage to nerves surrounding the temporal and frontal lobe. These parts of the brain controls movement, problem solving ability, behavior, personality mood, hearing, language, memory, speech, breathing, heart rate, consciousness etc. Furthermore, neurosurgeons rely on their personal surgical experience for estimating the temperature rise during grinding. However, this is much difficult for novice surgeons. Therefore, it becomes critically important to preserve the soft neural tissues and nerves amid bone grinding. To overcome these concerns, infrared thermography technique has been exploited to determine the possibility of thermogenesis during bone grinding by measuring the temperature rise and its distribution using infrared camera. All experiments have been carried at a constant set of process variables. The grinding zone is continuously flooded with the irrigating solution to remove the heat and bone debris away from the grinding site. It has been observed that convex tool shape generated lower maximum temperature i.e. 46.03 ℃ among all tools. The temperature produced by the convex tool is 12.06% lower than spherical tool, 33.39% lower than cylindrical tool, and 10.55% lower than tree-shape tool. The results showed that convex shape tool could prevent thermal necrosis in the bone as temperature caused (i.e. 46 ℃) was less than the threshold limit of osteonecrosis. Thermograms revealed that infrared thermography technique could be implemented for the in-vivo surgical operations for the measurement of temperature during bone grinding.

Opis:
A model of burr formation on the edge of the workpiece in the course of machining is presented. The material being machined, the cutting tool and the machining parameters were modelled. Material properties and type of its deformations have been modelled with the use of a constitutive Johnson - Cook model. Material damage initiation criteria and associated damage evolution have been modelled with the use of the ductile damage and the Johnson- Cook damage initiation criterion. Simulations of the machining process for different depths of cut were carried out. The real burr formation presented by Hashimura was compared with the modelled one. The influence of the cutting parameters on the form and size of burr has been analysed. Calculations have been realised utilising finite element method with the use of nonlinear analysis in ABAQUS/Explicit environment. Based on simulation results, the assessment of the form and size of burr has been made. Burr height was used to evaluate its size, which was derived according to ISO 13715 standard. The goal was to obtain a model that reliably reflects the behaviour of material during machining, with particular emphasis on supporting the creation of cutting phenomenon of burr formation. The results of simulation and computational analysis confirmed that the model reflects the real behaviour of the material.

Opis:
The Burr X and inverse Gaussian (IG) distributions have been considered to design an attribute control chart for time truncated life test with the moving average (MA) scheme w. The presentation of the MA control chart has been estimated in terms of average run length (ARL) by using the Monte Carlo simulation. The ARL is determined for different values of sample sizes, MA statistics size, parameters’ values, and specified average run length. The performance of this new MA attribute control chart has been compared with the usual time truncated control chart for Burr X and IG distributions. The performance of a new control chart is better than that of the existing control chart.

Opis:
The stress-strength reliability (SSRe) model is widely investigated in reliability engineering to determine the probability of the strength component overcomes the stress imposed on it. In this paper, we studied the estimation of SSRemodel based on the Burr III distribution under the improved adaptive progressive type-II censoring scheme (IAPrgCS-II). Estimation methods of the SSReparameters are developed using frequentist and Bayesian approaches. The point and interval estimations using the maximum likelihood are considered to estimate the parameters. Two approximations are applied to compute the Bayes estimates. A simulation study is conducted for the comparison of the methods of estimation. Also, parallel to the development of reliability studies, it is necessary tostudy its application in different sciences such as engineering. Therefore, the droplet splashing (DrS) data under two wettabilities are proposed as an application of the considered SSRe model and methods. The results show us that the reliability model can be used to amend the quality of coatings.

Opis:
Drilling of rivet holes in stacked materials consisting of CFRP and Ti-6Al-4V still represents unique challenges. It is common practice to drill the material layers using one single tool. When exiting the final metallic layer, formation of a drill cap usually leads to undesirable burrs and debris, requiring manual post-processing. In this work, a drilling process to avoid drill caps is presented. This is realized using low frequency high amplitude vibration assisted drilling with defined coupling of the rotational speed and the axial oscillations. Drilling parameters and their impact on the quality of the drilled hole in the metallic layer are also investigated. It is found that drill tip geometries and process parameters need to be tuned together to achieve a stable and repeatable process for drill cap avoidance. A highly sensorized experimental setup with multi-sensor systems including high-speed and thermal imaging was used for process evaluation.

Opis:
Purpose: This research aims to analyse the influence of blanking clearance size on the burr development for mild steel sheet, brass and aluminium. The main reason for this research is estimating the burr size on blank parts. It is still significant since the quality of the products is determined by evaluating the amount of allowable burr in the parts. Design/methodology/approach: For the blanking process on the 3.00 mm thick sheets, various sizes of blanking clearance for a 20 mm diameter of the die opening are employed, as is the technique for obtaining the parts. Then the height of the burr on each product was measured using a micrometre and toolmaker microscope. The height of burr for each size of blanking clearance have been recorded and compared using a graph. Comparison made to identify which measure of blanking clearance and which type of material will produce a small size of burr. Findings: For mild steel, brass, and aluminium, blanking clearance 0.15 mm produced burr heights of 0.088 mm, 0.015 mm, and 0.024 mm, and blanking clearance 0.13 mm produced bur heights of 0.192 mm, 0.055 mm, and 0.046 mm, respectively. The brass had a lower burr height than mild steel and aluminium, according to the results. More significant blanking clearance (0.15 mm) produced a smaller size of burr compared to a smaller blanking clearance (0.13 mm). Practical implications: This study focuses on burr height rather than the wear of the punch and die cutting edge; burr height can affect punch and die sharpness. It also can guide practitioners in estimating blanking clearance and the burr height of mild steel, brass and aluminium. Originality/value: This paper demonstrates that the gap between the punch and die influences the burr height. The material strength also affects the burr height, with a high tensile strength resulting in a larger burr.

Opis:
This study introduces a new family of distributions (FoD) called type I heavy-tailed odd Burr III-G (TI-HT-OBIII-G) distribution. Several statistical properties of the family are derived along with actuarial risk measures. The maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) approach is adopted in the parameter estimation process. The estimates are evaluated centered on mean square errors and average bias via the Monte Carlo simulation framework. A regression model is formulated and the residual analysis is investigated. Members of the new FoD are applied to heavy-tailed data sets and compared to some well-known competing heavytailed distributions. The practicality, flexibility and importance of the new distribution in modeling is empirically proven using three data sets.
