The analysis discuss the chance of application of selected business process models which are based on the relationship between inputs and outputs, for functioning forms of social enterprises such as: social cooperatives or other enterprises undertaking public services and some types of hybrid projects which linked business activity with a social mission. The study is focused on integrated and holistic models of social enterprises (including social objectives based on a positive relationship with the environment). The paper is trying to show factors determining the possibility of application of business process models for social enterprises. First of all the study is interested in using the system and process approach for social entrepreneurship.

Opis:: Model-driven engineering (MDE) provides the available tools, concepts, and languages for creating and transforming models. One of the most important successes of MDE is model transformation; it permits the transformion of models that are used by one community to equivalent models that can be used by another one. Moreover, each community of developers has its own tools for verification, testing, and test-case generation. Hence, a developer of one community who moves to another community needs a transformation process from the second community to his/her own community and vice versa. Therefore, the target community can benefit from the expertise of the source one, and the developers do not begin from zero. In this context, we propose an automatic transformation in this paper for creating a bridge between the BPMN and UML communities. We propose an approach and a visual tool for the automatic transformation of BPMN models to UML activity diagrams (UML-AD). The proposed approach is based on meta-modeling and graph transformation and uses the AToM3 tool. Indeed, we were inspired by the OMG meta-models of BPMN and UML-AD and implemented versions of both meta-models using AToM3 . This latter one allows for the automatic generation of a visual-modeling tool for each proposed meta-model. Based on these two meta-models, we propose a graph grammar that is composed of 58 rules that perform the transformation process. The proposed approach is illustrated through three case studies.

Opis:: The article is aimed at presenting the principles of Business Process Maturity Models (BPMM). They can be identified as a set of recommendations and good practices in achieving operational efficiency of performed processes. When process approach is a paradigm and according to available research organizations are becoming process – centric, the BPMM’s are beginning to be seen as the sources of sustainable competitive advantage and also a tool for obtaining operational excellence. As there is a very large number of documented maturity models the article also presents the results of literature study aiming at identify the most common existing models as well as present their main features and benefits.

Opis:: Selection and proper application of business process modeling methods and techniques have a significant impact on organizational improvement capabilities as well as proper understanding of functionality of information systems that shall support activity of the organization. A number of business process modeling notations were popularized in practice in recent decades. Most significant of the notations include Business Process Modeling Notation (OMG BPMN) and several Unified Modeling Language (OMG UML) extensions. In this paper, the assessment whether one of the most flexible and strictly standardized contemporary business process modeling notations, i.e. Rational UML Profile for Business Modeling, enable business analysts to prepare business models that are all-embracing and understandable by all the stakeholders. After the introduction, methodology of research is discussed. Section 2 presents selected case study results. The paper is concluded with a summary.

Opis:: Even though the literature is abundant in numerous studies concerning syntactic and semantic principles of the EPC model development, one may still have certain doubts when linking such models with one another. This article primarily addresses the principles of creating EPC models, particularly those relevant from the perspective of linking them, identified based on the literature research. What follows the said analysis is a proposal of an alternative concept which may be adopted in this respect. The author has discussed the cases in which models must be subject to specific modifications in order for the linking solution proposed to be applicable.

Opis:: EPC models are currently among the leading standard business process modelling solutions. As long as the rules for creating flat EPC models are explicit and raise no significant doubts, when it comes to linking models of different types, the literature of the subject delivers diversified solutions. Four such alternative concepts that can be applied in this respect have been identified and described in this article. They have been used to link EPC models for four cases proposed. These cases differ as to the degree of complexity, and they represent different kinds of potential links between processes being modelled. Using the concepts in question with reference to the cases defined has made it possible to identify situations in which it is impossible to link models, or when it raises certain doubts. What has also been proposed is that one of the concepts identified in the paper can be modified in such a manner that using it to link EPC models does not pose any problem in any of the cases discussed.

Opis:: EPC models provide a subject widely discussed in the literature. The principles applicable, while creating them have been elaborated upon in numerous publications. An analysis of the existing principles indicates certain inconsistencies as far as the creation of hierarchical models is concerned. The problem of combining equivalent EPC models using process interfaces has been discussed in the author’s previous publication. This paper continues to elaborate upon the problems previously raised, pertaining to EPC model linking by means of hierarchical functions. It addresses principles significant from the perspective of creating and linking such models using the aforementioned approach. Specific questionable situations have been described and individual solutions proposed to enable avoiding them.

The functionality of ERP systems allows you to cover all areas of the company's support activities. This is the basis for improving the management of the company and achieving efficiency in meeting the needs of the environment. Process models, presented in the publication, aim to make better use of the functionality of ERP systems in supporting the company on the example of customer service. Process models were created using structural analysis in business process modeling.

Opis:: Business process management is now the most dynamically developing concept in organisation management. In order to further improve process efficiency, it is advisable to analyse the current situation and determine the position of the organisation in terms of its progress in implementing the process approach. This is where the evaluation of the organisation’s process maturity proves useful. And the available literature provides an array of models for such assessment. This paper presents the results of a process maturity study for a selected hard coal mine based on the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) framework. The mine was ranked level 3 in process maturity, which is on a par with other Polish businesses. This score suggests opportunities for further improvement towards a more process-oriented business approach.
Zarządzanie procesami biznesowymi jest obecnie najbardziej prężnie rozwijającą się koncepcją w zarządzaniu organizacjami. Do dalszych działań mających na celu zwiększenie efektywności procesów warto jest dokonać analizy stanu obecnego i określenia miejsca, w którym faktycznie znajdują się przedsiębiorstwa w zakresie wdrożenia podejścia procesowego. W tym celu można wykonać badania poziomu dojrzałości procesowej organizacji, w oparciu o dostępne w literaturze modele. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dojrzałości procesowej w wybranej kopalni węgla kamiennego z wykorzystaniem ogólnego modelu CMMI. Kopalnia została oceniona na 3 poziomie dojrzałości procesowej, co nie odbiega od ogólnej oceny innych polskich przedsiębiorstw. Uzyskany wynik świadczy także o istniejących możliwościach dalszych prac w zakresie reorientacji organizacji na procesy.

Opis:: The purpose of this study is to point out the extent to which enterprises want to exploit the possibilities of information technologies (IT), system integration of information systems (IS) and business process automation with the aim to increase the intelligent work with information and improve business management support in enterprises. The paper evaluates the development and analyzes the views of 189 managers of Slovak SMEs and 26 managers of IT companies on the causes that prevent wider use of innovation opportunities and IS potential in enterprises in the process of increasing the competitiveness of their enterprises in the market. In this case we focused on the analysis and identification of several advantages and disadvantages related to the implementation of innovation and process automation and their impact on business management. We compare these results with the results of similar researches in the EU. Based on the best practice results, we suggest practices and recommendations that should eliminate the barriers to successful implementation of innovation potential in businesses and create conditions to support managerial decision making processes to be more effective.
Celem niniejszego artykułu jest wskazanie, w jakim stopniu przedsiębiorstwa chcą wykorzystać możliwości technologii informacyjnych (IT), systemowej integracji systemów informatycznych (IS) i automatyzacji procesów biznesowych w celu zwiększenia inteligentnej pracy z informacjami oraz poprawy wsparcia zarządzania w przedsiębiorstwach. Artykuł ocenia rozwój i analizuje opinie 189 menedżerów słowackich MŚP i 26 menedżerów firm IT na temat przyczyn, które uniemożliwiają szersze wykorzystanie możliwości innowacyjnych i potencjału systemów informatycznych w przedsiębiorstwach w procesie zwiększania konkurencyjności na rynku. W tym przypadku skupiono się na analizie i identyfikacji szeregu zalet i wad związanych z wdrażaniem innowacji i automatyzacji procesów oraz ich wpływem na zarządzanie przedsiębiorstwem. Porównano osiągnięte wyniki z rezultatami podobnych badań w UE. W oparciu o wyniki najlepszych praktyk zaproponowano rozwiązania i zalecenia, które powinny wyeliminować bariery utrudniające skuteczne wdrażanie potencjału innowacyjnego w przedsiębiorstwach i stworzyć warunki do wspierania procesów decyzyjnych menedżerów, tak aby były bardziej skuteczne.
