Opis:: Pope Francis’ visit to Sweden and his participation in the inauguration of the 500th anniversary of the Reformation triggered numerous reactions, both among German and Polish Catholics. The paper is an attempt to compare these reactions based on texts posted on selected Catholic websites: www.katholisch.de, www.domradio.de, www. kath.de, www.opoka.org.pl, www.deon.pl and www.fronda.pl. The analysis focuses on the following aspects: why the Pope went to Sweden; what and how he celebrated there. In general, German websites demonstrate largely similar stances and opinions formulated on the grounds of openness, kindness and mutual respect whereas opinions on Polish websites are clearly diverse: from liberal ones to the unambiguously conservative ones.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie jurysdykcji Kościoła katolickiego w kwestii małżeństw niekatolików. Autor po rozważaniach teoretycznych i przedstawieniu kategorii niekatolików nieochrzczonych i niekatolików ochrzczonych stawia pytanie: na jakiej podstawie Kościół katolicki wykonuje wobec nich jurysdykcję. Podaje argumentację dla tychże uprawnień poprzez opisanie ich źródeł w prawie naturalnym, świętości małżeństwa, odwołując się do historii doktryny i poszczególnych dokumentów kościelnych. Przytacza również teorię i procedury, o których mowa w Kodeksie Prawa Kanonicznego z 1983 r. oraz instrukcji Dignitas connubii. Nawiązuje do decyzji Sygnatury Apostolskiej i podaje szczegółowe uzasadnienie powodów, na podstawie których Kościół katolicki może realizować uprawnienie w odniesieniu do małżeństw niekatolików: udowodnienie stanu wolnego, interes prawny, status familiae et personarum (legitymacja potomstwa, pokrewieństwo, powinwactwo, alimenty, dziedziczenie).
This article is an attempt to bring closer the subject of jurisdiction of the Catholic Church over a marriage of non-Catholics. It includes principal definitions, ideas and concepts related to the topic. The paper consists of two leading motives. The first one is focused around theory and definitions, the second one, around legal procedure and practice. At the beginning, the Author presents main definitions on the topic that are necessary to further exploration. This includes inter alia category of unbaptized and baptized non-Catholics. The next part of the paper circles around the question – on what grounds does the Catholic Church exercise the jurisdiction over baptized and unbaptized non-Catholics? The Author presents justification for such Church's power through describing its roots in natural law and the sanctity of marriage, referring to history of doctrine and several ecclesiastical documents. The last part of the paper deals with theory and procedures, which are included in Code of Canon Law 1983 and Instruction Dignitas connubii. It also refers to decisions of the Apostolic Signature and gives specific grounds on which authority of the Catholic Church over non-Catholics may be exercised: proving unmarried status, legal interest, status familiae et personarum (legitimacy of offspring, kinship, affinity, alimony, heirdom).

Opis:: The aim of another publication which is a part of the “spoken history” project is to present the retired Greek Catholic Przemyśl-Warsaw metropolitan, Archbishop senior Jan Martyniak and his role as a restorer of the Greek Catholic rite structures in Przemyśl. The publication includes a calendar of Archbishop’s life, memories in which he goes back to various periods in his life: he talks about his youth and homeland, clerical years and studies, his biritualist ministry and the function of the Przemyśl metropolitan. The Archbishop also comments on the dispute between Catholics and Greek Catholics concerning the handing over of the former Carmelite church to the Uniates; he also remembers Bishop Stefan Moskwa as the one who received him after his arrival in Przemyśl. The Greek Catholic metropolitan is also presented from the perspective of Archbishops Józef Michalik and Ignacy Tokarczuk (recorded conversations by Rev. Stanisław Bartmiński). The text is complete with selected priests of the Eastern and Latin rites.

Opis:: In its history the Białyty Parish shared the lot of the Roman-Catholic Church both before the Reformation (1525) and after it. In the past it was in the custody of the Diocese of Płock and the Diocese of Chełm, and since 1992 it has been located in the Diocese of Toruń where traditions of the Evangelical Church and the Catholic Church, as well as the traditions of Polish population and German population diffused each other. In the XX century the inhabitants of the parish witnessed many political, national and administrative changes. However, there was always a Catholic temple with the Catholic clergy men who served people.

Opis:: For almost 20 years the issue of the participation of the Catholics in the socio-political life has occupied much space in all diocesan periodicals of the north-east Poland. They wrote about the notion of politics, groundless allegations that Christianity has nothing to do with politics and that priests should not meddle with politics, about various forms and levels of political commitment, the criteria of elections and the position of the Church towards political parties and groups. All the texts embrace the social teaching that politics is a considerable concern for the common good, and the Church, because of its mission and competence, in no way can be identified with any party or political group. And the political options of the Catholics should be in accordance with the evan-gelical system of values.

Opis:: The article is devoted to discussing the problem of education as a tool of religious dominance in Haiti between Catholics, Protestants and Vodou practitioners. This article examines the most important aspects of the religious situation in Haiti from the colonial period to the present days in a historical context. In this article the author uses the data analysis of publications, reports, non-governmental organisations and foreign press review. The author discusses the specific processes and forms of social activities, which created the modern neocolonial system of education in Haiti and presents the main causes of religious conversion and the role of Vodou after conversion to Protestantism.

Opis:: The revival of theology of the laity that was initiated by the Vatican Council II bears fruit in the form of giving back the dignity and role to the lay faithful, which follows from the fact that they belong to the Church community. Giving them back their subjective character in the Church is tantamount to recognizing their salutary activity in the Church and in the world. The Christian formation of lay Catholics seems a particularly important issue, as it is the foundation of a complete and proper involvement of lay Catholics in the life and mission of the Church. The article undertakes the problem of the formation of lay Catholics, first showing what formation is and what its most important dimensions are. Next it discusses the aims of formation and the circles in which formation takes place. Finally, it points to the most important challenges that are faced by the formation of lay Catholics in Poland twenty years after publishing John Paul II’s post-synodal exhortation Christifideles laici.

Opis:: This article aims to highlight aspects of religious life based on metrical records. The research focuses on religious communities in Rzeszów: the Roman Catholic parish of Farna, the Jewish metrical district, and the Greek Catholic parish in Zalesie. In all of these communities, the choice of wedding dates was in accordance with the liturgical calendar, including holidays and fasting periods. Illegitimate births indicated that relationships typical of marriage were also established before the formal wedding ceremony. Illegitimate births were more common among Jews due to marriages concluded only according to their own ritual. Illegitimate births were also more prevalent in the urban-like Farna parish compared to the rural Greek Catholic parish, where their percentage was the lowest. Records of administering sacraments to the dying were also indicative of religiousness.
Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu ukazanie aspektów życia religijnego w świetle akt metrykalnych. Przedmiotem badań są wspólnoty wyznaniowe w Rzeszowie: rzymskokatolicka parafia Farna, żydowski okręg metrykalny i greckokatolicka parafia w Zalesiu. We wszystkich terminu ślubu wybierano zgodnie z rozkładem świąt i postów w roku liturgicznym. Urodzenia pozamałżeńskie dowodziły, że relacje typowe dla małżeństwa nawiązywano też przed ślubem. Urodzenia pozamałżeńskie zanotowano u Żydów z powodu małżeństw zawieranych tylko rytualnie. Więcej było ich też w parafii Farnej o miejskim charakterze, inaczej w wiejskiej parafii greckokatolickiej, gdzie udział procentowy urodzeń pozamałżeńskich był najniższy. Na religijność wskazywały również zapisy o zaopatrzeniu umierającego sakramentami.
