Opis:
In this paper are presented the investigation results concerning microstructure as well as mechanical properties of the surface layer of cast aluminium-silicon-copper alloy after heat treatment alloyed and/ or remelted with SiC ceramic powder using High Power Diode Laser (HPDL). For investigation of the achieved structure following methods were used: light and scanning electron microscopy with EDS microanalysis as well as mechanical properties using Rockwell hardness tester were measured. By mind of scanning electron microscopy, using secondary electron detection was it possible to determine the distribution of ceramic SiC powder phase occurred in the alloy after laser treatment. After the laser surface treatment carried out on the previously heat treated aluminium alloys, in the structure are observed changes concerning the distribution and morphology of the alloy phases as well as the added ceramic powder, these features influence the hardness of the obtained layers. In the structure, there were discovered three zones: the remelting zone (RZ) the heat influence zone (HAZ) and transition zone, with different structure and properties. In this paper also the laser treatment conditions: the laser power and ceramic powder feed rate were investigated. The surface laser structure changes in a manner, that there zones are revealed in the form of. This carried out investigations make it possible to develop, interesting technology, which could be very attractive for different branches of industry.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of the properties of flame sprayed ceramic coatings using oxide ceramic materials coating of a powdered aluininiuni oxide (Al2O3) matrix with 3% titanium oxide (TiO2) applied to unalloyed S235JR grade structural steel. A primer consisting of a metallic Ni-Al-Mo based powder has been applied to plates with dimensions of 5X200X300 mm and front surfaces of ø40x50 mm cylinders. Flame spraying of primer coating was made using a RotoTec 80 torch, and an external coating was made with a CastoDyn DS 8000 torch. Evaluation of the coating properties was conducted using metallographic testing, phase composition research, measurement of microhardness, substrate coating adhesion (acc. to EN 582:1996 standard), erosion wear resistance (acc. to ASTM G76-95 standard), and abrasive wear resistance (acc. to ASTM G65 standard) and thermal impact. The testing performed has demonstrated that flame spraying with 97% Al2O3 powder containing 3% TiO2 performed in a range of parameters allows for obtaining high-quality ceramic coatings with thickness up to ca. 500 μni on a steel base. Spray coating possesses a structure consisting mainly of aluminium oxide and a small amount of NiAl10O16 and NiAl32O49 phases. The bonding primer coat sprayed with the Ni-Al-Mo powder to the steel substrate and external coating sprayed with the 97%Al2O3 powder with 3% TiO2 addition demonstrates mechanical bonding characteristics. The coating is characterized by a high adhesion to the base amounting to 6.5 MPa. Average hardness of the external coating is ca. 780 HV. The obtained coatings are characterized by high erosion and abrasive wear resistance and the resistance to effects of cyclic thermal shock.

Opis:
Nowadays, titanium is one of the most popular materials for aeronautical applications due to its good corrosion resistance, formability and strength. In this paper, rutile reinforced titanium matrix composites were produced via powder metallurgy. The steps included high energy ball milling of raw titanium and rutile powders in a planetary ball mill, which was followed by cold-pressing and sintering without external pressure. For the characterization of the milled powders and the sintered composites, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction and compressive strength examinations were carried out. The results showed that the rutile has a strengthening effect on the titanium matrix. 1 wt% rutile increased the compressive strength compared to the raw titanium. Increasing the milling time of the metal matrix decreased the compressive strength values.

Opis:
The preliminary results of the application of open-celled glassy-carbon foam (Cof) in magnesium matrix composites processed by the powder metallurgy method were presented. For the component consolidation, compaction with vertically-torsional vibration and hot-pressing were applied. For the material characterization, the microstructure examination LM and SEM with EDS was employed and also, the porosity and microhardness were measured. An influence of the carbon foam cells’ size on the composite porosity and microhardness was revealed. Additionally, a generation of a few micrometer thin and differently shaped MgO inclusions was observed. Differences in the oxide phase amount, size and shape in the magnesium matrix measured by the quantitative metallography method in the cross-sectioned composite elements were stated. With an increase of the distance from the composite roller top, an increase of the MgO content and microhardness was noticed.

Opis:
The research was focused on determining basic mechanical properties, surface, and phase structure taking into consideration basic cytotoxicity analysis towards human cells. Methods: Biological tests were performed on human C-12302 fibroblasts cells using 3D-printed Ti6Al4V alloy (Ti64), produced by laser-based powder bed fusion (LB-PBF) and Alumina Toughened Zirconia 20 (ATZ20), produced by lithography-based ceramic manufacturing (LCM). Surface modifications included electropolishing and hydroxyapatite or hydroxyapatite/zinc coating. Structure analysis was carried out using a variety of techniques such as X-Ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), followed by mechanical properties evaluation using nanoindentation testing. Results: Samples subjected to surface modifications showed diversity among surface and phase structure and mechanical properties. However, the cytotoxicity towards tested cells was not significantly higher than the control. Though, a trend was noted among the materials analysed, indicating that HAp/Zn coating on Ti64 and ATZ20 resulted in the best biological performance increasing cell survivability by more than 10%. Conclusions: Hydroxyapatite coating on Ti64 and ATZ20 resulted in the best biological properties. Tested materials are suitable for in vivo toxicity testing.

Opis:
The results of investigations of properties of aluminium-based composites produced by means of powder metallurgy and plastic working processes are presented in the paper. Atomized aluminium po-wder was used as a metallic matrix. As a reinforcement ceramic particles and fibres were used, and their volume fraction was maintained constant at 5%. The initial material to be formed was prepared by mixing of ingredients and compaction of the obtained mixture. Aluminium powder compacts and com-posite mixtures were subjected to consolidation and deformation in closed-die hot forging and hot extrusion processes, applying the extrusion ratio X = 4.11. These processes were realized in isothermal conditions, at the temperature of 500°C. The effect of a type of reinforcing phase as well as method of deformation on selected physical, mechanical and functional properties of obtained materials was ana-lysed. It was found that the proposed method results in obtaining highly compacted products, showing mechanical and functional properties which allow to use them in structural components. The product properties can be controlled by means of selection of a type of reinforcing phase as well as method of deformation.
W pracy zestawiono wyniki badań własności materiałów kompozytowych na osnowie aluminium, kształtowanych z zastosowaniem procesów metalurgii proszków i przeróbki plastycznej. W roli osnowy użyto rozpylany proszek aluminium.
