The Chamber Choir of the Henryk Wieniawski Music Society of Lublin was founded in 1987. Beata Dąbrowska (1960-2016) was its founder and conductor. The article consecutively describes special concerts of the Choir (inter alia on the occasion of national, religious holidays, various anniversaries and jubilees), its participation in cyclic concerts organized in Lublin, its journeys abroad (festivals and competitions, inter alia, in Belgium, Austria, France, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden), participation in diploma concerts of students of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University’s Institute of Music, as well as its album and TV records. The appendix contains: the register of members of the Chamber Choir (1987-2015), its repertoire, and illustrations documenting the Choir’s activity.          The accomplishments of the Chamber Choir of the Henryk Wieniawski Music Society have significantly enriched Lublin’s music culture of the last thirty years and become the pride of our town. These achievements must be attributed to Professor Beata Dąbrowska, who worked on the Choir’s artistic development with utter dedication and exceptional consistency. This was Her opus vitae.

Opis:
In his lecture, the speaker Paul Trepte presented the model of choirs functioning at Anglican Cathedrals in Great Britain. The lecture was enhanced with a live demonstration of the repertoir, vocal sounds and voice capabilities of the Choir of the Ely Cathedral assisting the speaker. Mr Trepte presented as well the methodology of running and conducting a boys’ choir, drawing on a long and rich Anglican tradition and accentuating the peculiar philosophy of educating young people through music.
W wykładzie Paul Trepte zaprezentował sposób funkcjonowania chórów w anglikańskich katedrach w Wielkiej Brytanii. Wykładowi towarzyszyła demonstracja repertuaru wykonanego przez chór katedralny z Ely, a także prezentacja możliwości wokalnych chórzystów. Paul Trepte przedstawił również metodykę ćwiczenia i prowadzenia chóru chłopięcego, opierając się na długiej i bogatej tradycji anglikańskiej, podkreślając swoistą filozofię kształcenia młodych ludzi poprzez muzykę.

Planned choirs managing on the example of the World Youth Day Choir in Cracow in 2016
Zarządzanie chórem projektowym na przykładzie Chóru Światowych Dni Młodzieży 2016

The purpose of the study was the throughgoing presentation of planned choir's working and its managing on the example of the World Youth Day Choir in Cracow in 2016. The study includes initial phases of the choir's functioning, i.e. recruitment process and prefatory rehearsals, as well as participation in Central Events. There is also pointed out how has the working of planned choir after the project's accomplishment looked like. The section relating to choir's managing is divided into subsections which the most important events during planned choir's functioning are included in. They are presented in chronological order. The subsections are ended with subjective conclusions, comments and promptings which are based on appropriate literature such as studies concerning management theory and legal acts. The second purpose of the study was the description of the World Youth Day's in Cracow organization issues, i.e. description of the World Youth Day's in Cracow organization process, presentation of detailed organization scheme and course of the Central Events, which are significant in the context of management. The research bases on individual perspective of person that have been engaged in the proceedings of the World Youth Day in Cracow thanks to being a part of World Youth Day Choir.
Celem pracy jest szczegółowe ukazanie sposobu funkcjonowania i zarządzania chórem projektowym na przykładzie Chóru Światowych Dni Młodzieży 2016 w Krakowie. Opisuję to, rozpoczynając od początkowych faz istnienia zespołu, tj. od rekrutacji, pierwszych prób, po uczestnictwo w Wydarzeniach Centralnych. Zwracam także uwagę na działalność chóru projektowego po zakończeniu projektu, dla którego zespół ten został powołany. Metodą jaką stosuję jest autoetnografia, jako iż sam byłem członkiem Chóru ŚDM 2016. Rozdział dotyczący zarządzania Chórem jest podzielony na mniejsze podrozdziały, w których zawieram najważniejsze zdarzenia w trakcie istnienia zespołu projektowego, uporządkowane w kolejności chronologicznej. Podrozdziały te zakończane są moimi własnymi wnioskami, uwagami i sugestiami, co podpieram odpowiednią literaturą; korzystam z prac dotyczących teorii zarządzania, bądź z aktów prawnych, takich jak ustawy.Drugi cel pracy to opisanie kwestii organizacyjnych Światowych Dni Młodzieży w Krakowie, tj. ukazanie procesu organizacji ŚDM w Krakowie, przedstawienie dokładnego schematu organizacyjnego oraz istotnych w kontekście zarządzania, zdarzeń podczas Wydarzeń Centralnych. Wszystko to czynię z perspektywy „od wewnątrz”, jako osoba posiadająca swój udział w przebiegu ŚDM 2016, należąc do sekcji muzycznej.

This article examines some aspects of a broader theme indicated in the title with respect to the diptych Tyrtaeus: A Tragedy and Behind the Scenes: A Fantastic Tale. While the present analysis is based on the fi ndings of earlier critics, it develops various parallels suggested by the use of musical motifs in Norwid’s twin dramas. Those associations act as an aid to a better understanding of the differences between the attitudes and ideas presented in the plays. Moreover, by indirectly marking the contrasts of truth and falsehood, they hold the key to the moral interpretation of the plays. The overall pattern of the musical references and associations in Tyrtaeus and Behind the Scenes appears to refl ect Norwid’s organic philosophy and his idea of creative originality. Finally, the purported pushing of Tyrtaeus off a cliff, an episode symbolizing the rejection of the right path, is analyzed along two similar poetic images of Norwid’s, Aesop’s fall into an abyss (On Freedom of Speech) and the hurling of Chopin’s piano out of the window (‘Chopin’s Piano’).

Opis:
In the article the author attempts to make a holistic investigation on the role of church choirs. The starting point is a statement that basically church choirs are considered to be religious groups, determined by specific tasks in the liturgy. The author highlights that it is essential for both a conductor and a choir to be aware of the fact that they have a liturgical role, which significantly influences the choice of the repertoire, a way of performing as well as a location of the choir and even choristers’ behavior and outfit. There are two areas in which a church choir can be qualified: liturgical qualification and aesthetical qualification. The first one considers an answer to the question: “what to sing” and the second one “how to sing” (aesthetic qualities). Both kinds of qualification are equally obligatory for each of the church choirs. Answering the question posed in the title of the article: “Is it only singing?” the author tries to justify that singing itself does not cover all the church choir’s tasks. It is significant to link singing with education, up-bringing and forming. A church choir is a school (schola cantorum), where choristers gain necessary musical knowledge and technical skills enabling performing songs properly, they learn a suitable behavior, which is described as “way of being” in the society they live in, they also obtain necessary religious and liturgical formation in order to make their liturgical tasks a source of “spiritual well-being”. While finishing the dissertation on the church choirs’ tasks, the author associates his thesis with Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger’s reflection, which can be fully referred to church choir’s tasks. He considers that each musical service can be treated as a liturgical service and if so, each church choir’s service is a form of “pastorial ministry” which is why it is considered as “a kind of the apostolate and serves as a way to build community”.

The subject of these considerations is the choir metaphor. The aim of the work is to broaden the knowledge about the theory and practice of management with a new choir metaphor and to indicate its analytical and practical value. The paradigms of management sciences and metaphors are the most important issues discussed in the work. Problems of the work methodology were also explained. After analyzing the research material, it can be concluded that the choir metaphor has analytical as well as practical value, it is also valuable in the context of management sciences. The publications that became extremely helpful in examining the phenomenon of metaphor were the Images of the organization of G. Morgan and the items of Ł. Sułkowski.
Przedmiotem niniejszych rozważań jest metafora chóru. Celem pracy jest poszerzenie wiedzy na temat teorii i praktyki zarządzania o nową metaforę chóru i wskazanie na jej wartość analityczną oraz praktyczną. Najważniejszymi zagadnieniami poruszanymi w pracy są paradygmaty nauk o zarządzaniu oraz metafory. Wyjaśnione zostały także kwestie metodyki pracy. Po przeanalizowaniu materiału badawczego można stwierdzić, że metafora chóru posiada wartość analityczną, a także praktyczną, jest także wartościowa w kontekście nauk o zarządzaniu. Publikacjami, które stały się niezwykle pomocne w zbadaniu zjawiska metafory stały się Obrazy organizacji G. Morgana, oraz pozycje Ł. Sułkowskiego.

Artykuł prezentuje obszar syntezy architektury i liturgii, która jest nieodzowna przy projektowaniu świątyni. Według pracy, transparentność mistyki i liturgii w gotyckim średniowieczu buduje dom Boży jako dwa kościoły, z których jeden wewnętrzny zawarty jest w drugim jako strefa chóru dla duchowieństwa zgromadzonego przy ołtarzu i wydzielonego od pozostałej części, przeznaczonej dla laikatu, poprzez lektorium. Od okresu liturgicznego bez lektorium, nawiązującego w XVI wieku do Kontreformacji (Sobór Trydencki), aż do naszych czasów (Drugi Sobór Watykański), czynnik scenograficzny a nie mistyczny - jak to było w gotyku - posiada swoje szczególne miejsce przy kształtowaniu architektury sakralnej. Artykuł uzasadnia możliwość przeniesienia intuicji gotyckiego chóru, gdzie jeden ołtarz istnieje w otoczeniu jednej hierarchii do posoborowej architektury sakralnej, odpowiadajacej całemu wnętrzu kościelnemu, a nie tylko jego wydzielonej wybranej części.
The article presents the sphere of synthesis of architecture and liturgy which is indispensable in the creation of a temple. According to the paper, the transparency of mystical and liturgy in a middle ages of gothic build the house of the Lord as two churches. One of them, the inner one, is incorporated in the other one as an area of the choir for the clergy gathered at the altar and separated by a jube from the other part destined for the lay people. From the period of a liturgi without a jube, referring in 16 th century to counter-Reformation (Council of Trent) till contemporary times (Second Vatican Council) it is the factor connected with the stage design and not the mystical one as it was in case of gothic that is particularly taken into consideration when creating the sacred architecture. The article justifies the possibility of transferring the intuition of the gothic choir, where one altar exists in the surrounding of one hierarchy to the after-council sacral architecture, where one altar exists in the surrounding of one community, belonging to the whole interior of the church and not only to its chosen separated part.
