Opis:
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) operate in an overcrowded electromagnetic environment, as the spectrum is shared by various wireless communication technologies. This gives rise to various challenges related to optimized and efficient spectrum utilization. Cognitive radio (CR) has emerged as a solution satisfying this requirement, as it is capable of adapting to the dynamic radio spectrum. Thanks to the deployment of cognitive radio in WSNs, the spectrum may be utilized in a more efficient manner. CR may identify the vacant channels dynamically, allowing the sensor nodes to effeectively communicate with each other. In this paper a clustering algorithm known as improved cluster-based channel assignment (ICBCA) is implemented, forming clusters of CR sensor nodes and then selecting vacant channels for data transmission purposes. Simulation results show that ICBCA outperforms existing clustering algorithms in CR sensor networks.

Opis:
In this paper, the Riemann solution of an extended Riemann problem in channel networks is presented. The Riemann problem at a junction network is well defined in the literature. However, it is limited to symmetric networks. Here, we extend the Riemann problem to non-symmetric networks such that neither the channel width equality nor the dischargee quality are assumed. The Riemann solution is given under subcritical flow conditions to ensurethe existence and uniqueness of the solution at the junction. Taking into account the massand energy conservation laws, the necessary conditions for the Riemann solution are drawn. The results are summarized in a theorem. The theorem is illustrated with a set of numerical examples. In order to perform a one-dimensional simulation in channel networks, the inner boundary conditions at the junction (i.e., the channel intersection point) are required. It has turned out that the classical models (i.e., the Equality, Gurram, Hsu models) that have been used to supplysuch a boundary suffer from many drawbacks. Thus, here we propose to use the Riemann solution at the junction networks to provideproper boundary conditions. Then, we compare all the junction models together. The junction models are validated against experimental results found in the literature for steady state flows.Generally, the Riemann model shows good results in matching the experimental data. In particular, the Riemann model shows the best results when the bottom discontinues at the junction. For the unsteady state flows, we perform prototype case studies to test the junction models in the channel networks, and the numerical solutions are compared with the analytical solutions. The Riemann model continues to show the best results that agree with the analytical solutions. However, the validation of the junction models in the unsteady state flows remains for future work due to the limited amount of real data.

Channels selective for potassium or chloride ions are present in inner mitochondrial membranes. They probably play an important role in mitochondrial events such as the formation of ΔpH and regulation of mitochondrial volume changes. Mitochondrial potassium and chloride channels could also be the targets for pharmacologically active compounds such as potassium channel openers and antidiabetic sulfonylureas. This review describes the properties, pharmacology, and current observations concerning the functional role of mitochondrial potassium and chloride channels.

Selfcomplementary quantum channels

Opis:
Selfcomplementary quantum channels are characterized by such an interaction between the principal quantum system and the environment that leads to the same output states of both interacting systems. These maps can describe approximate quantum copy machines, as perfect copying of an unknown quantum state is not possible due to the celebrated no-cloning theorem. We provide here a parametrization of a large class of selfcomplementary channels and analyze their properties. Selfcomplementary channels preserve some residual coherences and residual entanglement. Investigating some measures of non-Markovianity, we show that time evolution under selfcomplementary channels is highly non-Markovian.

Opis:
Benchmarking is a management tool successfully used by public and private sector managers and holding its important position in a management toolbox throughout the years. The essence of benchmarking is learning from others and creative adaptation of good practices. It can involve both quantitative and qualitative comparisons which enable not only to learn about the outcomes of the activity but also about the ways these results had been achieved. In the paper the possibility of applying benchmarking in omni-channel logistics is presented. The rising expectations of customers highlighting the convenience of purchase as one of the most important factors determining purchase, forces retailers to change their business strategies. One of the most important factor creating product value is flexible delivery. Therefore this aspect was chosen as an example field for a proposed reference benchmarking methodology.

Opis:
This paper presents results of propagation measurement carried out in the frequency range 1.8-2.0 GHz inside a building, using network analyser. Wideband properties of the channel, described through mean delay and delay spread, and a narrowband local statistics of the received power have been presented. For each transmitter and receiver antennas location two propagation cases have been considered, line of sight (LOS) and obstructed line of sight (NLOS) - the direct path component was attenuated by radio absorbing mat near the receiver.

Opis:
In terms of changing service delivery in multi-channel systems and the development of new communication/sales channels the key element of customer service becomes the ability to manage and seek synergies in using multiple service points. The aim of the article is to present the challenges must confront service providers in terms of significant changes in the distribution of services. The highest currently identified symptom of these changes is the omnichanneling strategy. The authors pointed out two major interrelated factors shaping challenges for service providers - big data and proliferation channels. The main part of the article is a list of actual challenges for service providers under transformation services distribution strategy towards omnichanneling.

Opis:
We investigated the formation of different types of rivers depending on slope, total discharge, and grain size. Calculations were performed using numerical package CCHE2D, developed by the National Center for Computational Hydroscience and Engineering. The model is based on the Navier-Stokes equations for depth-integrated two-dimensional turbulent flow and the three-dimensional convection-diffusion equation of sediment transport. For each model we use the same river geometry, suspended load concentration, and bedload transport rate. We distinguish three types of rivers using two methods for classification (single-channel, multiple-channels and transitional). We found that the trend line for transitional rivers is an increasing function of Q in space (Q, d) and that for large S the number of multichannel rivers decreases.

Transmembrane proteins : different anchoring systems

Opis:
Transmembrane proteins are active in amphipathic environments. To stabilize the protein in such surrounding the exposure of hydrophobic residues on the protein surface is required. Transmembrane proteins are responsible for the transport of various molecules. Therefore, they often represent structures in the form of channels. This analysis focused on the stability and local flexibility of transmembrane proteins, particularly those related to their biological activity. Different forms of anchorage were identified using the fuzzy oil-drop model (FOD) and its modified form, FOD-M. The mainly helical as well as β-barrel structural forms are compared with respect to the mechanism of stabilization in the cell membrane. The different anchoring system was found to stabilize protein molecules with possible local fluctuation.

Opis:
Channel assignment in 2.4 GHz band of 802.11 standard is still important issue as a lot of 2.4 GHz devices are in use. This band offers only three non-overlapping channels, so in crowded environment users can suffer from high interference level. In this paper, a greedy algorithm inspired by the Prim’s algorithm for finding minimum spanning trees (MSTs) in undirected graphs is considered for channel assignment in this type of networks. The proposed solution tested for example network distributions achieves results close to the exhaustive approach and is, in many cases, several orders of magnitude faster.
