    Opis:
    The degree of complexation of microelement ions by the biodegradable chelating agent - IDHA was examined in the work. The tests were carried out in water and in a simulated fertilizer environment. In order to compare the obtained results, tests were also carried out for the commonly used EDTA. The performed analyzes allow to determine the influence of the presence of compounds containing macroelements on the degree of binding of microelement ions by the biodegradable IDHA and EDTA chelators. The obtained results make it possible to determine the optimal conditions for the chelation of cations by IDHA, which in the future may be used in the production of micronutrient fertilizers on a large scale.

    Ligation of water to magnesium chelates of biological importance

    Water binding to several Mg^{2+} chelates, ethylenediamine, ethylenediamine-N,N’-diacetate, porphyrin, chlorophyll a and bacteriochlorophyll a, to form five- and six-coordinate complexes is studied by means of density functional theory. The results obtained for magnesium chelates are compared with the properties of the respective aqua complexes and the influence of the permittivity of environment on the ligand binding energies is discussed. Although the most common coordination number of Mg^{2+} is six, in the tetrapyrrolic chelates it is reduced to five because the accommodation of the sixth water ligand results in no gain in energy. This is in line with the experimental observations made for coordination of chlorophylls in vivo. The binding between Mg^{2+} and water is mostly of electrostatic nature, which is supported by the finding that its energy is correlated both with the electron density of the chelator and with electrostatic potential determined at the ligand binding site.

    W doświadczeniach z sałatą głowiastą (Lactuca sativa L. var. capitata L.) 'Sunny' uprawianą w podłożu torfowym w cyklu wiosennym i jesiennym określono wpływ dwóch mineralnych i pięciu chelatowych źródeł żelaza na plon świeżej masy i zawartość żelaza w liściach. Zawartość żelaza w podłożu zróżnicowano do pięciu poziomów: 25 - kontrola, 50, 75, 100, 150 i 300 mg · dm⁻³ podłoża. Po zastosowaniu żelaza w postaci mineralnej w całym zakresie dawkowania oraz w kombinacjach z chelatami FelDHA oraz FeEDDHMA w zakresie od 50 do 150 mg · dm⁻³ podłoża, chelatem FeDTPA w zakresie od 50 do 100 mg · dm⁻³ podłoża oraz chelatem FeEDTA+DTPA przy poziomie 50 mg · dm⁻³ podłoża nie stwierdzono istotnych różnic w wielkości plonu sałaty w porównaniu do kombinacji kontrolnej. Większe poziomy żelaza w postaci poszczególnych chelatów powodowały osłabienie wzrostu lub zamieranie roślin. Zastosowanie chelatu FeEDTA miało niekorzystny wpływ na wzrost roślin nawet przy najmniejszym poziomie żelaza w podłożu. Zwiększenie poziomu żelaza w podłożu powodowało większą jego zawartość w liściach. Zawartość żelaza w liściach sałaty była istotnie mniejsza po zastosowaniu żelaza w postaci mineralnej niż w postaci chelatowej.
    In experiments with head lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. var. capitata L.) 'Sunny' grown in peat substrate in the spring and autumn cycle, the effect of two minerał and five chelated iron sources on the fresh weight yield and iron content in leaves were determined. The iron content in the substrate were differentiated into five levels: 25 - control, 50,75,100,150 and 300 mg · dm⁻³ substrate. After application of minerał form of iron in whole dosage and in combinations with: FeEDDHMA and FelDHA chelates in the dosage of 50 to 150 mg · dm⁻³ substrate, FeDTPA chelate in the dosage of 50 to 100 mg · dm⁻³ substrate and FeEDTA+DTPA chelate at the level of 50 mg · dm⁻³ substrate, no significant differences in yield of lettuce compared to the control combination were found. Higher levels of iron in form of other chelates caused reduction in growth or plant decay. Use of FeEDTA chelate had a negative effect on plant growth, even at the lowest level of iron in substrate. Increasing levels of iron in substrate resulted in its higher content in leaves. The iron content in lettuce leaves was significantly lower with iron in minerał form than in chelate form.

    Opis:
    The main aim of this paper was to examine the effects of chelating agents on the mobilization of heavy metals from polluted soils and tailings generated by copper ore processing. Ammonium salts (chloridc and nitrate(V)), organic acids (citric and tartaric), amino acids (glycine and histidine) and synthetic chelating agents EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) and EDDS (ethylenediaminedisuccinic acicf) were applied to soil suspension at the ratę of 5 nimol o kg-1 and shaken. Similar tests were performed also with two kinds of sewage sludge, at various stages of biochemical stability. Examined were 8 samples collected from the dumping sites Żelazny Most and Wartowice, as well as 2 samples of polluted soils from the yicinities of copper smelters Legnica and Głogów were tested. Total concentrations of metals in tailings were: 1300-3800 mg Cu o kg-1, 80-300 mg Pb o kg-1 and 23-35 mg Zn o kg-1, whereas the concentrations of those metals in soils were: 1270-1500 mg Cu o kg-1, 304-336 mg Pb o kg-1 and 80-89 mg Zn o kg-1. Efficiency of metals extraction from soils and tailings varied between tested soils and tailings materiał, metals and chemical agents applied. EDTA appeared the most effective in solubilizing Cu, and extracted 7-39 % of total Cu and 2-18 % Pb from various samples. The efficiency of Cu solubilization from soils and tailings by other agents was in the following order: cilric acid (for tailings) > glycine > histidine > EDDS > citric acid (for soils) > tartaric acid > ammonium chloride > ammonium nitrate. The order for extraction of two other metals differed from that obtained for Cu. The tests with sewage sludge did not prove essential increase of Cu and Pb solubility, despite considerable amounts of dissolved organic matter present in one sludge. This effect can be explained by the sorption of chelated forms of metals by highly humified organic matter.
    Celem pracy było badanie wpływu substancji kompleksujących na rozpuszczalność metali z zanieczyszczonych gleb i osadów poflotacyjnych górnictwa miedzi. Do testów ekstrakcji przeprowadzonych metodą wytrząsania w zawiesinie, zastosowano sole amonowe (chlorek i azotan (V)), kwasy organiczne (winowy i cytrynowy), aminokwasy (glicynę i histydynę) oraz syntetyczne substancje chelatujące EDTA (kwas wersenowy, tj. kwas etylenodiaminotetraoctowy) i EDDS (kwas etylenodiaminodibursztynowy], w dawce 5 mmol o kg-1. Wykonano także podobne testy z dwoma rodzajami komunalnych osadów ściekowych o różnym stopniu stabilizacji biochemicznej. W doświadczeniach badano osiem próbek osadów poflotacyjnych ze składowisk Żelazny Most oraz Wartowice oraz 2 próbki gleb zanieczyszczonych z sąsiedztwa hut miedzi w Legnicy i Głogowie. Całkowite zawartości badanych pierwiastków w osadach wynosiły: Cu: 1300-3800 mg o kg-1, Pb: 80-300 mg o kg-1 oraz Zn: 23-35 mg o kg-1. Zawartości tych pierwiastków w glebach wynosiły: Cu: 1270-1500 mg o kg-1, Pb: 304-336 mg o kg-1 oraz Zn: 80-89 mg o kg-1. Skuteczność ekstrakcji metali z osadów i gleb była zróżnicowana. Najsilniej rozpuszczające na Cu działał EDTA, który ekstrahowa) 7-39 % całkowitej zawartości Cu oraz 2-18 % Pb. Skuteczność rozpuszczania Cu z gleb i osadów pozostałymi odczynnikami układała się w szereg: kwas cytrynowy (dla osadów) > glicyna > histydyna > EDDS > kwas cytrynowy (dla gleb) > kwas winowy > chlorek amonowy > azotan amonowy. Dla pozostałych dwóch metali szereg ten nie był identyczny. Mimo znacznej zawartości łatwo rozpuszczalnej substancji organicznej w nieustabilizowanych osadach ściekowych, w testach z osadami ściekowymi nie stwierdzono znaczącego wzrostu rozpuszczalności Cu i Pb. Praktyczne znaczenie rozpuszczania metali wskutek chelatowania może być ograniczone ze względu na silne sorbowanie połączeń metali przez shumifikowaną substancję organiczną.

    Chrom jest metalem przejściowym, który obecnie budzi największe kontrowersje. W najnowszych publikacjach już wyraźnie wskazuje się, że nie jest on niezbędnym mikroelementem, a jego działanie należy rozpatrywać raczej jako efekt farmakologiczny. Sprzeczne doniesienia naukowe, a jednocześnie ogromna liczba suplementów diety, odżywek sportowych i dietetycznych dostępnych na rynku skłoniły autorów do prześledzenia dostępnych informacji dotyczących zakresu możliwego zastosowania, skuteczności i bezpieczeństwa produktów zawierających sole lub chelaty chromu III. Wykonano przegląd baz elektronicznych z lat 1959–2016 oraz wyselekcjonowano prace opisujące biochemiczne, fizjologiczne i toksyczne właściwości soli i chelatów chromu III, a także zakres możliwego zastosowania w medycynie, dietetyce i sporcie. Poddano krytycznej analizie doniesienia na temat wpływu chromu na gospodarkę węglowodanowo-lipidową organizmu, skład ciała i beztłuszczową masę ciała oraz zdolność wysiłkową sportowców. Wskazano prace analizujące mechanizm działania chromu w zaburzeniach kognitywnych i afektywnych. Dużą uwagę autorzy poświęcili bezpieczeństwu stosowania suplementacji preparatami zawierającymi chrom. Wciąż pozostaje kilka niewyjaśnionych zagadnień – w zakresie toksykologii uwagę zwraca niedostateczna liczba doniesień na temat środowiskowego narażenia na chrom III w miejscu pracy, natomiast w zakresie badań biochemicznych wciąż istnieje potrzeba wyjaśnienia mechanizmu aktywności psychiatrycznej i endokrynologicznej zwłaszcza w powiązaniu z układem immunologicznym.     Currently, chromium is probably the most controversial transition metal. In recent publications it is clearly stated that it is not an essential micronutrient and should be considered to have a pharmacological effect. Conflicting scientific reports along with a huge amount of dietary supplements, as well as dietary and sports nutrients available on the market have prompted the authors to investigate the available information on the range of possible application, efficacy and safety of products containing salts or chelates of chromium III. The authors reviewed articles in electronic databases for the years 1959–2016, and selected works describing the biochemical, physiological and toxic properties of chromium salts and chelates and the range of possible applications in medicine, dietetics and sport. A critical analysis of reports dealing with the effect of chromium on the carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, body composition, lean body mass and sports performance was carried out. The authors indicated papers analyzing the mechanism of action of chromium in the cognitive and affective disorders. Much attention has been paid to the safety use of chromium III supplements. There are still some unsolved issues. In the field of toxicology, a limited number of reports about environmental exposure to trivalent chromium in the workplace draws our attention. In the field of biochemical research, there is still a need to clarify the mechanism of psychiatric and endocrinological activity, especially in conjunction with the immune system.
