Opis:
The paper brings forward an idea of multi-threaded computation synchronization based on the shared semaphored cache in the multi-core CPUs. It is dedicated to the implementation of multi-core PLC control, embedded solution or parallel computation of models described using hardware description languages. The shared semaphored cache is implemented as guarded memory cells within a dedicated section of the cache memory that is shared by multiple cores. This enables the cores to speed up the data exchange and seamlessly synchronize the computation. The idea has been verified by creating a multi-core system model using Verilog HDL. The simulation of task synchronization methods allows for proving the benefits of shared semaphored memory cells over standard synchronization methods. The proposed idea enhances the computation in the algorithms that consist of relatively short tasks that can be processed in parallel and requires fast synchronization mechanisms to avoid data race conditions.

Opis:
The paper presents the problem of designing of a fractional order controller satisfying the conditions of gain and phase margins of the closed-loop system with time-delay inertial plant. The transfer function of the controller follows directly from the use of Bode's ideal transfer function as a reference transfer function for the open loop system. Using the classical D-partition method and the gain-phase margin tester, a simple computational method for determining stability regions in the controller parameters plane is given. An efficient analytical procedure to obtain controller parameter values for specified gain and phase margin requirements is also given. The considerations are illustrated by numerical examples computed in MATLAB/Simulink.

Opis:
Aiming at a closed-loop water system of HVAC engineering, the authors put forward an evaluation method of systems' stability based on sensitivity. It has three evaluating indexes: [alfa] - the summation of flow changes in other subcircuits influenced by resistance change in a certain subcircuit [Beta] - the summation of flow changes in a certain sub circuit influenced by resistance changes in other subcircuits; [gamma] - average [Beta] (or [alfa]) value of each subcircuit, reflecting the strength of regulating interference between subcircuits. The method is used to analyze the stability of a reverse return system (RRS) and a direct return system (DRS). The DRS subcircuit farthest from the heat source and the middle RRS are the least stable. Stability of the whole RRS is inferior to that of the DRS.

Opis:
We present a Closed Loop Supply Chain (CLSC) model that supports a production planning (PP) process. CLSC model is based on CLSC framework model which consists of four main centers: collection, recovery center, distribution and disposal centers. These logistics parts support main production lines. Some quantity of the products is recovered and the factories don’t need to spend money for production. This is a simple cost reduction process. In CLSC literature one can hardly meet the models of production planning processes supported by CLSC. Important problem with that models is the computational complexity when one wants to prepare production plans for more than one time period. This is connected with a number of the numerical variables of the CLSC and PP models which are usually Integer Programming models solved with Branch & Bound algorithms. We present some modifications of the widely known and used constraints in the CLSC models to optimize solving process. All the experiments were conducted with the CPLEX solver.

The purpose of the study is presentation of the method of increasing the competitiveness of the mining industry through the demonstration of the possibility and potential in closing the loop of supply chains through waste management. A critical analysis of the source literature and an arithmetic analysis of statistical data in static and dynamic perspectives were accepted to be the research method. It has been found that the structure of the level of mining wastes and the level of their recovery rates demonstrate a large potential of closing the loop of chains in this industry and, at the same time, a potential to extend the chains through directing the material from recovery to various sectors. This constitutes an example of the direction of activities that are in line with the EU strategies for the economies of other states which possess this type wastes.

Opis:
The main purpose of this work is to provide an extensive, simulation-based comparison of robustness of PID and MPC algorithms in control of blood glucose levels in patients with type 1 diabetes and thus answer the question of their safety. Cohort testing, with 1000 simulated, randomized patients allowed to analyze specific control quality indicators, such as number of hypoglycemic events, and length of hypo- and hyperglycemia periods. Results show that both algorithms provide a reasonable safety level, taking into account natural changes of patients’ physiological parameters. At the same time, we point out drawbacks of each solution, as well as general problems arising in close-loop control of blood glucose level.

Opis:
During the last couple of years a lot of component- or object-oriented approaches have been presented to ease the implementation and reconfiguration of distributed control systems. Using these frameworks, the structure of the control objects follows the configuration of the mechanical components, and each object is instantiated as often as the corresponding device occurs in a plant. Having an object library, a control engineer will glue objects together, which means, in the context of the IEC 61499, connecting function blocks by event and data connections. This rapid way of implementation and reconfiguration makes also high demands on the verification process, which has to be done after each change. This means that the model of the plant has to be updated and the model of the distributed controllers have to be automatically generated to connect both in a closed loop. Both formal models should be modular to manage even large systems. Furthermore, the controller must be able to interact with the plant not only via Boolean data but via integer-valued data as well. Thus, the existing verification approaches have to be extended and an execution and a data processing model defined. The execution model includes the function block interface and the Execution Control Chart as well as their interconnections. For the arithmetical operations of adding and subtracting as well as the comparison of Boolean and integer-valued data it is shown how the data processing inside the function blocks has to be transformed to the formal model. Consequently, rules are defined for the transformation of the execution and data processing of function blocks with Boolean and integer-valued data. Due to the proposed separation, the resulting data processing model is not limited to IEC 61499 Basic Function Blocks. As formal model, Net Condition/Event modules (NCEM) and structures are used. Modelling of the plant and the analysis of the resulting closed-loop behaviour are presented using a small, but realistic manufacturing system.

Opis:
We study the application of electromagnetic actuators for the active stabilization of the Leipholz column. The cases of the compressive and tensional load of the column placed in air and in water are considered. The partial differential equation of the column is discretized by Galerkin's procedure, and the stability of the obtained control system is evaluated by the eigenvalues of its linearization. Four different methods of active stabilization are investigated. They incorporate control systems based on feedback proportional to the transverse displacement of the column, its velocity and the current in the electromagnets. Conditions in which these strategies are effective in securing safe operation of the column are discussed in detail.

Opis:
Introduction and objective: The purpose of this follow-up study on the implementation of advanced closed-loop hybrid insulin pumps in people with type 1 diabetes was to assess the impact of introducing this advanced technology on quantitative and qualitative parameters of diet. Material and methods: 18 patients (8 women and 10 men, mean age 40.9 years) patients using the CE-marked MiniMed 780G AHCL system who completed 1 year of follow-up were included into the study. The research tool was the KomPAN questionnaire with several own questions added, asked in three study periods, concerning the number of meals consumed, general and night snacking, carbohydrate counting, frequency of consumption of various groups of products that affect postprandial glycaemia. Results: Although the mean body weight of the examined group did not increase significantly (from 75.1 kg at the beginning to 75,9 kg at the end), five various individual scenarios of weight change were observed. The eating habits has not changed, but patients began to consume less products containing simple sugars, e.g. fruit preserves, milk chocolate or fish in sauces (p<0.05). No statistically significant correlation was found between the change in body weight at the end of the study and the average amount of carbohydrates entered into the pump from the entire 12 months (p = 0.460). Conclusions: The implementation of AHCL system in technology naïve patients, despite offering more freedom of food choices due to better glycaemic control, did not have a significant impact on patients’ dietary patterns, also did not result in weight gain. This is important since AHCL system offers more freedom of food choices due to better glycaemic control. However, the longer follow up and the study based on larger population is required to finally address the issue of the impact of AHCL on body mass.

Opis:
This paper presents experimental observation of nonlinear vibrations in the response of a flexible cantilever beam to transverse harmonic base excitations around its flexural mode frequencies. In the experimental setup, instead of manual control of the signal excitation frequency and amplitude, a closed-loop vibration system is used to keep the excitation amplitude constant during the frequency sweep and to increase confidence in the experimental results. The experimental results show the presence of the third mode in the response when varying the excitation frequency around the fourth mode. The frequency-response curves, response spectrum and Poincaré plots were used for characterization of nonlinear dynamic behaviour of the beam.
