Opis:: In this paper we shall discuss the semantics of the lexical items which have been employed with reference to nakedness. The theoretical framework adopted in this article is that of cognitive linguistics, whose emergence in the second half of the 20th century gave a new impetus to semantic research. In particular, we shall discuss the words which denoted nakedness in the past, but which fell into oblivion (e.g. unbehelod, nscrȳdd), we shall also focus on the similes (e.g. as naked as a jaybird, naked as a robin, naked as a worm, naked as a needle) as well as the phrases and idioms (e.g. mother naked, belly naked, in the buff, in stag, in the altogether, in the nude, in one’s birthday suit, in a state of nature, in the raw) which pertain to the conceptual category NAKEDNESS. Furthermore, we attempt to answer the following research questions: (1) What processes are the most productive in terms of creating new synonyms of nakedness? (2) How many metaphorical schemas can be formulated on the basis of the analysis? (3) How many and which conceptual domains play a crucial role in the rise of the new lexical items whose senses are connected with the conceptual category NAKEDNESS?

Opis:: The paper analyses figurative applications of phrases containing words connected with human seeing (e.g. the verbs see, look, espy, nouns like sight, look, eye and adjectives such as blynd). It shows the motivation for metaphoric expressions used by Chaucer to express his thoughts and visions in a most vivid and precise way and their further development in the language system. The analysis is based on the data obtained from Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales (Ellesmere MS), the Oxford English Dictionary online and the Middle English Dictionary. As regards its theoretical basis it refers to Lakoff–Johnson’s theory of cognitive metaphor.

Opis:: The paper proposes a model of rhetoric based on the theoretical and methodological framework of constructivist positions on knowledge and discourse. The main claim is that the ideological meaning, and specifi cally of political discourse, can be analyzed from a dual perspective, ‘socio-cognitive’ and 'rhetorical-constructivist’. Such an analysis shows that the construction of meaning is inseparable from the deliberate choice made by the agent in communicative practices. The paper claims that rhetoric should return to its origins as a tool for citizens, and that it could become an important instrument for explaining the conflicts of current social and political discourse.

Opis:: Towards a unified, socio-cognitive approach to language-mediated intercultural competenceVery few intercultural competence (IC) models include language, and those that do so portray the notion in an inconsonant manner. Nonetheless, research shows that language assures successful intercultural communication. Thus, this article stresses the need for a unified socio-cognitive approach which will introduce common and solid foundations for the role and nature of both language and IC. The article demonstrates that such an integrated framework, built on a reappraised notion of language, helps to overcome numerous dichotomies within IC models and leads to the emergence of a unified approach to language-mediated IC. W kierunku ujednoliconego, socjo-kognitywnego podejścia do kompetencji interkulturowej opartego na językuNieliczne modele kompetencji interkulturowej (ang. IC) uwzględniają język, a te, które to robią, przedstawiają to pojęcie w niekonsekwentny sposób. Jednak badania pokazują, że język jest gwarantem efektywnej komunikacji interkulturowej. Niniejszy artykuł podkreśla potrzebę ujednoliconego podejścia socjo-kognitywnego, które oparte jest na wspólnych podstawach łączących rolę i naturę zarówno języka, jak i kompetencji interkulturowej. W artykule wykazujemy, że takie zintegrowane podejście, zbudowane na przeformułowanej koncepcji języka, pomaga przezwyciężyć liczne dychotomie w modelach kompetencji interkulturowej i prowadzi do powstania jednolitego podejścia do kompetencji interkulturowej opartej na języku.

Opis:: This article presents an approach to analysing collective identity in discourse that distinguishes the linguistic and semiotic description of textual features from their socio-cognitive interpretation. Collective identities are theorised as conceptual structures comprising beliefs and knowledge, norms and values, attitudes and expectations as well as emotions, and as being reinforced and negotiated in discourse. A number of linguistic and semiotic features are suggested to ascertain what collective identities are constructed in texts and how. These include social actor representation, process types, evaluation, modality, metaphoric expressions and intertextuality. The findings from such an analysis are then linked to questions about genre and the participants and processes of discourse practice as well as to the social context and the ideologies by which it is dominated. The analytical procedure is exemplified with an excerpt from a retailer’s catalogue that is investigated for the discursive construction and socio-cognitive representation of gender and sexual identity.

Opis:: Nadezhda Teffi (former Buczynska, born as Lochwicka, 1872-1952) - poet and novelist, one of the most interesting characters in Russian literature of the first half of the twentieth century. In 1920 Teffi left Russia supplying the same community of thousands of Russian immigrants. In Paris, still accompanied by the opinion of eminent satirist, but a poetic works can trace many aspects of the Teffi creative attitude, and especially reflective and nostalgic nature of the emigration work. The experience of exile provoked to think about the country, the world and herself in this world. Similar sentiments reflect the poems included in the books of poetry: Шамрам. Песни Востока (Songs of the East, Berlin, 1923), Passiflora (Berlin 1923) and in the poems published in collective volumes and anthologies. The article analyses the concept of death in the lyrics of Teffi. Semantical structure of this concept includes both objective senses and individual imaginations of the author.

Opis:: The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of group consultation with a cognitive – behavioural approach on the reduction of students’ examination anxiety. The studied population included all the sophomore students who study in public secondary schools of Tehran. The sample included 60 students that were determined scientifically by using multi-stage random sampling. This experimental research is a posttest – pretest design with a control group 25 articles with two variables (worry and excitement) in three levels of low, medium and high were used to investigate the research questions by Sarason’ s examination anxiety. Beck,s cognitive – behavioural approach was taught to the experimental group in 12 sessions, every session of 120 minutes. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the findings (independent groups and dependent groups’ T test) and the results of the research indicate: 1. With regard to the examination anxiety, most students had been at a medium level and higher than it and the amount of examination anxiety in case of excitement is more than the worry variable. 2. The amount of examination anxiety in the students who received group consultation with a cognitive – behavioural approach is meaningfully less than in those who did not receive it.

Podejście kognitywne w piśmiennictwie informatologicznym. Analiza biblioteryczna za lata 2009-2014

Opis:: The subject of the paper is presence of cognitive approach in polish information science. The main purpose of the paper is to demonstrate popularity this attitude in polish literature of information science in 2009-2014. The specific aim should be also to show assumption the approach and designation its situation. That end author harnessed bibliometric analysis of research method. The analysis gave proof of low popularity of the cognitive approach in polish information science. At the same time it demonstrated existence of conviction that the attempt has a strong impact on the discipline. Author also exhibited through the metodology that a very few researchers crisply appeal to cognitive science or cognitive linguistics instead of the cognitive approach in information science. Only one article from this literary activity use assumptions the attitude. This situation form a huge dormer in our prospective. It create that the information science becomes a two-attitude-discipline, and omits potential research field.
Przedmiotem pracy jest obecność podejścia kognitywnego w polskiej informatologii. Celem pracy jest wykazanie popularności tego nurtu w polskim piśmiennictwie informatologicznym w latach 2009-2014. Do celów szczegółowych należy również przedstawienie założeń tego nurtu i określenie jego obecnej kondycji. W tym celu autor pracy posłużył się metodą analizy bibliometrycznej. Analiza bibliometryczna udowodniła słabą popularność nurtu kognitywnego w polskiej informatologii, wykazując jednocześnie, że istnieje przekonanie, że podejście kognitywne ma silny wpływ na tę dyscyplinę naukową. Za pomocą zastosowanej metodologii autor wykazał, że jedynie garstka autorów w lakoniczny sposób nawiązuje do kognitywistyki bądź lingwistyki kognitywnej, nie zaś do samego nurtu kognitywnego w informatologii. Tylko jeden artykuł z polskich artykułów naukowych opublikowanych w ciągu pięciu lat wykorzystuje założenia tego nurtu. Sytuacja ta tworzy olbrzymią lukę w wiedzy, jaką mogłoby dostarczyć wykorzystywanie założeń podejścia kognitywnego. Sprawia, że informatologia staje się nauką o dwóch głównych nurtach, pomijającą potencjalne pole badawcze.

Contemporary personality psychology emphasizes internal complexity of the self and the multiplicity of its components. This can be observed independently in two different theoretical approaches – in cognitive theories of the self and in theory of dialogical self. The article compares those two approaches by analyzing similarities and differences between them. The analysis leads to the proposition of integration, in which cognitive and dialogical approaches are seen as complementary rather than mutually exclusive.
