Opis:: Acronyms are lexical units that have been thoroughly explored in terms of their morphology or pronunciation. However, their semantic value has not been entirely determined yet. The present paper aims at investigating the manner in which a semantic value of an acronym, and particularly a difference between proper and common acronyms, influences techniques applied to translating them. In order to achieve the aforementioned objective, on the basis of the cognitive theory of proper names, the authors have distinguished Polish and French acronyms being ergonyms as well as acronyms belonging to proper names and these designating item classification. The paper concerns the analysis of both Polish and French translations of ergonyms in foreign language press and French common acronyms in the Polish press. The performed analysis allows observing a tendency towards transferring acronymsergonyms that play the role of a rigid designator rather than full names in the target text. By contrast, the techniques of translating common acronyms differ, depending on whether they designate phenomena typical of the source culture or universal ones.

Opis:: The subject of this paper is to analyze the toponyms, the names of streets and squares in Kielce. The test material was collected from an inventory of names in Kielce archives and the work of Ms Danuty Kopertowskiej. This paper describes the onomastics, as a science, its place in linguistics, distribution, history and current state of research. Revised terms: common name and proper name and developed the differences between them. Done the dictionary stored names. Moreover, special attention has been paid to the origin and structure of these names of streets and squares.At the final stage of the paper presents a thorough analysis of the collected material.
Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy jest analiza toponimów, czyli nazw ulic i placów w Kielcach. Badany materiał został zebrany na podstawie spisu nazw w kieleckim archiwum oraz pracy Danuty Kopertowskiej.W pracy opisano onomastykę, jako naukę, jej miejsce w językoznawstwie, podział, historię i stan badań. Opracowano terminy: nazwa pospolita i nazwa własna oraz opracowano różnice między nimi. Sporządzono również słownik zgromadzonych nazw. Ponadto szczególną uwagę zwrócono na pochodzenie i budowę omawianych nazw ulic i placów. Na ostatnim etapie pracy przedstawiono wnikliwą analizę zebranego materiału.

Opis:: The paper presents the problem of the proprial status of 18th-century in the Chełm region. The hitherto research on the theory of proper names seeks to distinguish between a historical microtoponimic unit and appelative form. In establishing the name-forming derivation of the historical field names it is helpful to refer, among other things, to graphic criteria, word-forming and direct notations in which their authors-copyist inform us about microtoponimic formations. In the collection of a few thousand field names one cannot exclude such names which are on the border on appelatives and onims.

Opis:: The article discusses the ways and mechanisms of inscribing selected proper names into the advertising con(text) and attempts at disintegrating the components of onyms. It shows the use of their connotational and associational value, as well as their contextual associational potential. The description of those phenomena enables one to formulate conclusions about the function and functional shifts of onyms, as well as about the shaping of a postmodern system of values by means of the same.

Opis:: Artykuł poświęcony jest problematyce funkcjonowania nazw własnych w kontekście społeczno-komunikacyjnym. Podkreśla konieczność rozdzielenia procesów tworzenia i funkcjonowania onimów, ze względu na to, że w użyciu nazwa własna obrasta w nowe konotacje, staje się przyczyną generowania nowych motywacji, które są tworzone z reguły podświadomie. Te motywacje ujawniają się w postaci tzw. reinterpretacji nazewniczych zewnętrznych i wewnętrznych. Pierwsze dotyczą przekształceń dokonywanych w świadomości użytkownika, a zatem bez naruszenia formy nazewniczej. Mechanizm drugiego typu przekształceń pozwala na dokonywanie zmian w obrębie leksykalnym onimu.
This paper deals with proper names functioning issues in the social-communicative context. It underlines the necessity to divide creating and functioning names processes, because while using the proper names receive new connotations, and becomes a reason for generating new motivations, which are usually created subconsciously. These motivations come to the light in the shape of so called outward and inward onomastic (name) reinterpretations. The first concern transformations taking place in the user’s awareness, thus without reshaping a name. Mechanism of the other type of transformations allows making changes within lexical name.

Opis:: The subject matter of the paper is the names of confectionery products which, as chrematonyms, belong to the category of proper names. The objective of the deliberations is to provide an answer to the questions in the area of onomastics: where is the borderline between proper names and common names and is it possible to determine this precisely? The properties of onyms, the specification of their (marketing-persuasive) function, as well as grammatical tests (a predicative and pronominal test) which the particular entities have undergone lead to the division of the product names into three groups: common names, common names with a differential marker, and proper names. There exist, however, borderline elements which can denote individual products in specific contexts, and a group of products with identical characteristics in other contexts.
Przedmiotem artykułu są nazwy produktów cukierniczych, które jako chrematonimy sytuują się na pograniczu nazw własnych. Materiał wyekscerpowany został z różnych blogów kulinarnych, dostępnych w latach 2017–2018. Cel rozważań to odpowiedź na pytania z zakresu onomastyki, gdzie jest granica między nazwą własną a pospolitą i czy jest możliwe precyzyjne jej wyznaczenie. Analiza semantyczna onimów, określenie ich funkcji (marketingowo-perswazyjnej) i testy gramatyczne (test orzecznikowy i zaimkowy), którym poddano poszczególne jednostki, prowadzą do podziału nazw produktów na trzy grupy: nazwy pospolite, nazwy pospolite z członem dyferencjalnym i nazwy własne. Istnieją jednak elementy pograniczne, które w określonych kontekstach mogą oznaczać produkty indywidualne, a w innych grupę produktów o takich samych zespołach cech.

Imiennictwo trzcianian w parafii pod wezwaniem św. Małgorzaty Panny i Męczennicy w Trzcianie k/Bochni

Opis:: The subject of this work are the names of residents of Trzciana in the parish of St. Virgin and Martyr Margaret in Trzciana near Bochnia. Examined names are divided into two time periods: the first, covering the period 1923-1963 and the second for the period from 1973 to 2013. Reference of anthroponymy contains both the first and second names of male and female. In addition, the work also describes a lot of non-linguistic factors and conditions that influence the specificity of names of residents of Trzciana at the turn of the century. This primarily concerns the analysis of the motivation giving the the first and second considering such possibilities inheriting the names of their ancestors, or so-called bring your name. It is completed by the story of the village Trzciana near Bochni and the history of the parish of St. Virgin and Martyr Margaret, which is located in that village.
Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy jest imiennictwo parafii pod wezwaniem św. Małgorzaty Panny i Męczennicy w Trzcianie k/Bochni. Badane imiona zostały podzielone na dwa przedziały czasowe: pierwszy, obejmujący lata 1923-1963 oraz drugi, dotyczący okresu od roku 1973 do 2013. Materiał antroponimiczny stanowią pierwsze i drugie imiona męskie i żeńskie. Niezwykle istotnym elementem pracy jest opisanie czynników i uwarunkowań pozajęzykowych wpływających na specyfikę imiennictwa trzcianian na przełomie XX i XXI wieku. Dotyczy to przede wszystkim analizy motywacji nadawania imion pierwszych i drugich z uwzględnieniem takich możliwości jak dziedziczność imienia przodków, czy tzw. przyniesienie imienia. Całość dopełnia historia Trzciany k.Bochni i historia parafii pod wezwaniem św. Małgorzaty Panny i Męczennicy w tejże miejscowości.

Opis:: The analysis of proper names requires linguistic knowledge and their translation is a source of well-known problems to translators. In order to interpret proper names, it's recommended to ask a few questions which could explain if given proper names have any lexical meaning, how they differ from the common names and what their specificity is. Translators from the entire world encounter difficulties of all kinds often ensuing from the fact that their own language does not have any proper equivalent names. They must try to apply suitable techniques which would let them reflect proper names from the original text. The French and the Polish translators of the "Harry Potter" novel by J. K. Rowling display some particular tendencies : the first one leans towards domesticating translation and the other one - to foreignizing translation. The diversity of treatments results in creation of different visions of the presented world for the French and Polish readers.
L’analyse des noms propres demande des connaissances linguistiques particulières et leur traduction pose aux traducteurs des problèmes généralement connus. Pour bien interpréter le nom propre, il est nécessaire de se poser la question de savoir s’il porte un sens, comment il se distingue d'un nom commun, quelles sont ses spécificités. Les traducteurs du monde entier rencontrent différentes difficultés qui résultent souvent du manque d’équivalent adéquat dans leur propre langue. Ils doivent chercher à appliquer les techniques qui leur permettraient de refléter de façon appropriée les noms propres du texte original. Les traducteurs français et polonais du roman « Harry Potter » de J. K. Rowling présentent certaines tendances : le premier penche vers la traduction cibliste, le deuxième - vers la traduction sourcière. La variété des traitements fait que les deux traductions créent la vision du monde présenté qui diffère chez le lecteur polonais et français.
Analiza nazw własnych wymaga odpowiedniej wiedzy językoznawczej, a ich tłumaczenie stanowi powszechnie znany problem wśród tłumaczy. Aby poprawnie zinterpretować nazwy własne, należy zadać sobie pytanie, czy są to nazwy znaczące, czym różnią się od nazw pospolitych, jaka jest ich specyfika. Tłumacze z całego świata stykają się z różnymi trudnościami wynikającymi często z faktu, że ich język docelowy nie posiada właściwego odpowiednika. Muszą zastosować odpowiednie techniki, które pozwoliłyby im na najwłaściwsze odzwierciedlenie nazw własnych występujących w tekście oryginalnym. Tłumacz francuski i polski powieści „Harry Potter” J. K. Rowling wykazują pewne tendencje: pierwszy skłania się ku strategii udomowienia, drugi - egzotyzacji. Te jakże różne podejścia sprawiają, że dwa tłumaczenia kreują inne wizje świata przedstawionego u czytelników francuskich i polskich.

Opis:: The purpose of this study is to show the existence and use of the nicknames in the villages of the province of Toledo. The thesis explains what is a nickname, what is its origin and if today people from the villages are still using them. The first chapter of our work focuses on one of the branches of linguistics, onomastics. The aim of this section is to present their definitions and categorizations. In the second chapter we discuss the concept of the proper name and common name. In the next part of the thesis we explain that the origin of surnames is very important part in the course of nicknames. The fourth chapter concern of theme principal of the present study that it to say nicknames. The last section contains the study of responses in the questionnaire done by some inhabitants from the province of Toledo.
El objeto de este trabajo es mostrar la existencia y el uso de los apodos en pueblos de la provincia de Toledo. La tesis explica qué es un apodo, cuál es su origen y si hoy en día la gente en dicha provincia sigue utilizándolo. El primer capítulo de nuestro trabajo se centra en una de las ramas de lingüística que es la onomástica. El objetivo de este apartado es presentar sus definiciones y categorizaciones. En el segundo capítulo analizamos el concepto del nombre propio y del nombre común. En la siguiente parte del trabajo explicamos el origen de los apellidos que toman parte muy importante en el supuesto de los apodos. El capítulo cuatro concierne al tema principal del presente trabajo, o sea, a los apodos. Se citan algunas de sus definiciones y se las compara con las definiciones del mote. El último apartado contiene los resultados del análisis del corpus de respuestas obtenidas en el cuestionario elaborado.
Celem niniejszej pracy jest pokazanie, iż przezwiska we wioskach w prowincji Toledo istanieją i wciąż ich się używa. W pracy pojawiają się odpowiedzi na pytania: czym jest przezwisko, jakie jest jego pochodzenie i czy w dzisiejszych czasach używa sie ich na wiejskim terenie prowincji Toledo. Pierwszy rozdział opisuje jeden z działów językoznawstwa, jakim jest onomastyka. Celem tej części pracy jest przedstawienie definicji i klasyfikacja głównych gałęzi onomatyki. Drugi rozdział dotyczy analizy nazw wlasnych i pospolitych. Następny przybliża zagadnienie nazwiska oraz jego pochodzenie. Czwarty rozdział dotyczy głównego tematu niniejszej pracy, jakim jest przezwisko. Ostatnia cześć jest przestawieniem wyników badań dotyczących przezwisk i ich występowania w prowincji Toledo.

Tytuł:: Names of the areas in Wilamowice
Nazwy terenowe Wilamowic

Opis:: The main purpose of this study was to analyze the semantic field names (microtoponyms) functioning in the spoken Polish language of the city of Wilamowice in the Bielsko poviat.The analysis of the collected onimic material indicates the important role of field names in the linguistic reality of the inhabitants of Wilamowice. The aforementioned community uses it for everyday communication, which makes it much easier for them to function in their small homeland. Additionally, thanks to the collected names, we can get to know the colorful culture and mentality of the Wilamowiceans. The collected field names are motivated by the natural environment, cultural factors, poroperties and the location of the field object in relation to one another.There is no doubt that the collected microtoponyms preserve the cultural and social image of the town. Subsequently, we can notice that among the collected names, it was also possible to collect those that are a remnant of the Wilamowicean ethnolect, which was once the only code that the described community communicated.Research has shown that the most numerous group of names are microtoponyms motivated by the name of the object's location in relation to another and those that were semantically motivated by elements of nature. Many names were also motivated by poroperties and names of their owners, which showed many interesting measures that the creator of the name used. In instance, combining a first name with a nickname, e.g. Botułmirkowe, should be mentioned here. These names indicate the community's attachment to property. The set of names that were nature, in particular flora and fauna, contains many words from the Wilamowicean ethnolect. We can see attachment to the history of Wilamowiceans due to the names motivated by cultural factors.
Głównym celem niniejszej pracy była analiza semantyczna nazw terenowych (mikrotoponimów) funkcjonujących w polszczyźnie mówionej miasta Wilamowice w powiecie bielskim.Analiza zebranego materiału onimicznego wskazuje na istotną rolę nazw terenowych, jakie pełnią w językowej rzeczywistości mieszkańców Wilamowic. Wspomniana społeczność używa jej do codziennej komunikacji, co znacznie ułatwia im funkcjonowanie w swej małej ojczyźnie. Dodatkowo dzięki zebranym nazwom możemy bliżej zaznajomić się z barwną kulturą oraz mentalnością Wilamowian. Zebrane nazwy terenowe motywowane są środowiskiem naturalnym, czynnikami kulturowymi, posesywnością oraz lokalizacją obiektu terenowego względem innego. Nie ulega wątpliwości, iż zebrane mikrotoponimy utrwalają w sobie kulturowo-społeczny obraz miasteczka. Kolejno możemy zauważyć, że wśród zebranych nazw udało się również zgromadzić te, które są stanowią pozostałość po etnolekcie wilamowskim, który kiedyś był jedynym kodem jakim komunikowała się opisywana społeczność. Badania wykazały, iż najliczniejszą grupą nazw stanowią mikrotoponimy motywowane nazwotwórczo lokalizacją obiektu względem innego oraz te, które motywowane semantycznie były elementami przyrody. Wiele nazw motywowane również były posesywnością, co ukazało wiele ciekawych zabiegów, które zastosował twórca nazwy. Należy tutaj przywołać przykład połączenia imienia z przezwiskiem np.: Botułmirkowe. Wspomniane nazwy wskazują na przywiązanie społeczności do własności. Zbiorze nazw, które były naturą, w szczególności florą i fauną, pojawia się znaczna część wyrazów z etnolektu wilamowskiego. Przywiązanie do historii wilamowian możemy dostrzec za sprawą nazw motywowanych czynnikami kulturowymi.
