Opis:
In this paper, I show how semantic factors constrain the understanding of the computational phenomena to be explained so that they help build better mechanistic models. In particular, understanding what cognitive systems may refer to is important in building better models of cognitive processes. For that purpose, a recent study of some phenomena in rats that are capable of ‘entertaining’ future paths (Pfeiffer and Foster 2013) is analyzed. The case shows that the mechanistic account of physical computation may be complemented with semantic considerations, and in many cases, it actually should.

Opis:
In this paper we present a numerical procedure for calculation of electrical conductivity in a periodic lattice of one-dimensional zero range potentials with a case of dominant impurity scattering. The conductivity was previously obtained in an integral form via an approximate solution of the kinetic Kolmogorov equation. The proposed approach is based on the quadrature formula for certain type of integrals. The results are compared with the low temperature limit approximation.

Opis:
This paper is devoted to the total tardiness minimization scheduling problem, where the efficiency of a processor increases due to its learning. Such problems model real-life settings that occur in the presence of a human learning (industry, manufacturing, management) and in some computer systems. However, the increasing growth of significant achievements in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning is a premise that the human-like learning will be present in mechanized industrial processes that are controlled or performed by machines as well as in the greater number of multi-agent computer systems. Therefore, the optimization algorithms dedicated in this paper for scheduling problems with learning are not only the answer for present day scheduling problems (where human plays important role), but they are also a step forward to the improvement of self-learning and adapting systems that undeniably will occur in a new future. To solve the analysed problem, we propose parallel computation approaches that are based on NEH, tabu search and simulated annealing algorithms. The numerical analysis confirm high accuracy of these methods and show that the presented approaches significantly decrease running times of simulated annealing and tabu search and also reduce the running times of NEH.

Opis:
In this paper I present a program Maxima, which is one of the best computer algebra system (CAS). The program is easy to use and offers many possibilities. In the text the interface, basic commands, and various examples to facilitate complex calculations in almost every field of mathematics are preented. I prove that the program can be used in secondary schools, upper secondary schools and college. Program’s capabilities are presented, including, among others, differentiation and symbolic integration, symbolic solving equations (including differential), simplifying algebraic expressions, matrix operations, the possibility of drawing graphs of 2D / 3D and others.

The goal of the presented paper is to provide an introduction to the basic computational models used in quantum information theory. We review various models of quantum Turing machine, quantum circuits and quantum random access machine (QRAM) along with their classical counterparts. We also provide an introduction to quantum programming languages, which are developed using the QRAM model. We review the syntax of several existing quantum programming languages and discuss their features and limitations.

In a classical measurement the Shannon information is a natural measure of our ignorance about properties of a system. There, observation removes that ignorance in revealing properties of the system which can be considered to preexist prior to and independent of observation. Because of the completely different root of a quantum measurement as compared to a classical measurement, conceptual difficulties arise when we try to define the information gain in a quantum measurement using the notion of Shannon information. In contrast to classical measurements, quantum measurements, with very few exceptions, cannot be claimed to reveal a property of the individual quantum system existing before the measurement is performed. A mathematical theory of computation that is based on quantum physics is bound to be different. They are the analogues for quantum computers to classical logic gates for conventional digital computers. Although quantum gates work on qubits in a much different fashion from standard electronic circuits, they only differ in their basic effects in one sense: reversibility.

Opis:
Graphics processors (GPU – Graphic Processor Units) recently have gained a lot of interest as an efficient platform for general-purpose computation. Cellular Automata approach which is inherently parallel gives the opportunity to implement high performance simulations. This paper presents how shared memory in GPU can be used to improve performance for Cellular Automata models. In our previous works, we proposed algorithms for Cellular Automata model that use only a GPU global memory. Using a profiling tool, we found bottlenecks in our approach. With this paper, we will introduce modifications that takes an advantage of fast shared memory. The modified algorithm is presented in details, and the results of profiling and performance test are demonstrated. Our unique achievement is comparing the efficiency of the same algorithm working with a global and shared memory.

This work presents some additional mechanisms for Evolutionary Multi-Agent Systems for Multiobjective Optimisation trying to solve problems with population stagnation and loss of diversity. Those mechanisms reward solutions located in a less crowded neighborhood and on edges of the frontier. Both techniques have been described and also some preliminary results have been shown.
