Opis:
In this article, we extended the concept of controllability, traditionally used to control the final state of a system, to the exact control of its final speed. Inspired by Kalman’s theory, we have established some conditions to characterize the control that allows the system to reach a desired final speed exactly. When the assumptions ensuring speed-controllability are not met, we adopt a regulation strategy that involves determining the control law to make the system’s final speed approach as closely as possible to the predefined final speed, and this at a lower cost. The theoretical results obtained are illustrated through three examples.

This paper studies the output controllability of discrete linear time invariant systems (LTI) with non-negative input constraints. Some geometrical arguments and positive invariance concepts are used to derive the necessary and/or sufficient conditions for the positive output controllability of discrete LTI systems. The paper also provides several academic examples, which support the theoretical results.

Opis:
Linear, continuous stochastic dynamical systems with multiple delays in control are studied in the paper. Their relative stochastic controllability with constrained control is discussed. The definitions of various type of constrained relative and absolute stochastic controllability for linear systems with delays in control are introduced. Criteria of relative and absolute stochastic controllability with constrained control are established. Constraints on control values are considered. Mutual implications between constrained relative stochastic controllability of systems with and without delays are studied as well as implications between constrained relative and absolute stochastic controllability of systems with delay in control.

Opis:
Positive state controllability is the controllability of systems where the state is positive and the input remains in ℝn. Under some conditions, we established a relation between the reachability map of systems with only the positive state and the reachability map of a related positive system where the state and input are both positive. Using this connection, necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for the positive state reachability of discrete linear time-invariant (LTI) systems, and then we deduced the positive state controllability. These conditions are evaluated over some numerical examples that support the theoretical results.

We consider a control problem given by a mathematical model of the temperature control in industrial hothouses. The model is based on one-dimensional parabolic equations with variable coefficients. The optimal control is defined as a minimizer of a quadratic cost functional. We describe qualitative properties of this minimizer, study the structure of the set of accessible temperature functions, and prove the dense controllability for some set of control functions.

We consider the null controllability problem from the exterior for the one dimensional heat equation on the interval (−1, 1), associated with the fractional Laplace operator (−∂2 x)s, where 0 < s < 1. We show that there is a control function, which is localized in a nonempty open set O ⊂ (R \ (−1, 1)), that is, at the exterior of the interval (−1, 1), such that the system is null controllable at any time T > 0 if and only if 1/2 < s < 1.

Opis:
The constrained averaged controllability of linear one-dimensional heat equation defined on R and R+ is studied. The control is carried out by means of the time-dependent intensity of a heat source located at an uncertain interval of the corresponding domain, the end-points of which are considered as uniformly distributed random variables. Employing the Green’s function approach, it is shown that the heat equation is not constrained averaged controllable neither in R nor in R+. Sufficient conditions on initial and terminal data for the averaged exact and approximate controllabilities are obtained. However, constrained averaged controllability of the heat equation is established in the case of point heat source, the location of which is considered as a uniformly distributed random variable. Moreover, it is obtained that the lack of averaged controllability occurs for random variables with arbitrary symmetric density function.

Opis:
We derive exact and approximate controllability conditions for the linear one-dimensional heat equation in an infinite and a semi-infinite domains. The control is carried out by means of the time-dependent intensity of a point heat source localized at an internal (finite) point of the domain. By the Green’s function approach and the method of heuristic determination of resolving controls, exact controllability analysis is reduced to an infinite system of linear algebraic equations, the regularity of which is sufficient for the existence of exactly resolvable controls. In the case of a semi-infinite domain, as the source approaches the boundary, a lack of L2-null-controllability occurs, which is observed earlier by Micu and Zuazua. On the other hand, in the case of infinite domain, sufficient conditions for the regularity of the reduced infinite system of equations are derived in terms of control time, initial and terminal temperatures. A sufficient condition on the control time, heat source concentration point and initial and terminal temperatures is derived for the existence of approximately resolving controls. In the particular case of a semi-infinite domain when the heat source approaches the boundary, a sufficient condition on the control time and initial temperature providing approximate controllability with required precision is derived.

In a previous work we improved some earlier results of Imanuvilov, Li and Zhang, and of Zuazua, on the boundary exact controllability of semilinear wave equations by weakening the growth assumptions on the nonlinearity. Answering a question of Zuazua we give a still weaker, essentially optimal condition. Furthermore, we establish an approximate internal controllability result under the same growth assumptions.

Opis:
The main objective of this article is to review the major progress that has been made on controllability of dynamical systems over the past number of years. Controllability is one of the fundamental concepts in the mathematical control theory. This is a qualitative property of dynamical control systems and is of particular importance in control theory. A systematic study of controllability was started at the beginning of sixties in the last century, when the theory of controllability based on the description in the form of state space for both time-invariant and time-varying linear control systems was worked out. Roughly speaking, controllability generally means, that it is possible to steer a dynamical control system from an arbitrary initial state to an arbitrary final state using the set of admissible controls. It should be mentioned, that in the literature there are many different definitions of controllability, which strongly depend on a class of dynamical control systems and on the other hand on the form of admissible controls. Controllability problems for different types of dynamical systems require the application of numerous mathematical concepts and methods taken directly from differential geometry, functional analysis, topology, matrix analysis and theory of ordinary and partial differential equations and theory of difference equations. In the paper we use mainly state-space models of dynamical systems, which provide a robust and universal method for studying controllability of various classes of systems. Controllability plays an essential role in the development of modern mathematical control theory. There are various important relationships between controllability, stability and stabilizability of linear both finite-dimensional and infinite-dimensional control systems. Controllability is also strongly related to the theory of realization and so called minimal realization and canonical forms for linear time-invariant control systems such as the Kalmam canonical form, the Jordan canonical form or the Luenberger canonical form. It should be mentioned, that for many dynamical systems there exists a formal duality between the concepts of controllability and observability. Moreover, controllability is strongly connected with the minimum energy control problem for many classes of linear finite dimensional, infinite dimensional dynamical systems, and delayed systems both deterministic and stochastic. Finally, it is well known, that controllability concept has many important applications not only in control theory and systems theory, but also in such areas as industrial and chemical process control, reactor control, control of electric bulk power systems, aerospce engineering and recently in quantum systems theory.
