Opis:
Relation between morphological traits  of the root system and yield  related  traits is an important issue concerning efforts aiming at improving of ideotype of cultivated plants species, including pea. In this paper, to analyse the dependency between traits describing the root system morphology and yield potential, Person’s and Spearman's correlations as well as canonical correlations were used. Root system was analyzed in 14 and 21 day-old seedlings growing in blotting-paper cylinders. Yield po- tential of pea was analysed in a field experiment. Results of Person’s and Spearman's correlations revealed that number of lateral roots and lateral roots density were correlated witch yield related traits. Correlation between root length and shoot length was observed only for 14 day-old seedlings. The result of canonical correlations revealed that number of lateral roots and lateral roots density had the largest effect on yield re- lated traits. This work highlights, that in order to improve the yield of pea it might become necessary to under- stand genetic determination of morphological traits of the root system, especially number of lateral roots.

Opis:
The PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider has performed a survey of momentum correlations ranging from 200 MeV/c to 7 GeV/c in sNN = 200 GeV p+p, d+Au, Au+Au, and sNN = 62 GeV Au+Au collisions. The correlations are measured separately for like-sign and unlike-sign pairs. Comparisons of the properties of the near-side peak amplitude and width as a function of centrality and transverse momentum for each collision species are presented and discussed.

The possibilities of ALICE experiment in measurements of particle correlations are estimated by computer simulations. A dedicated software has been created with the aim to study the influence of different experimental factors on the shape of correlation functions and with the intention to serve in the future for the analysis of real data. A scheme of correlation analysis is described shortly and some of the first results are presented. This analysis is being performed in the frame of ALICE "Physics Performance Report".

Opis:
We propose an extension of the numerical method to model effect of Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC) observed in hadronization processes which allows for calculations not only the correlation functions C2(Qinv) (onedimensional), but also the corresponding C2(Qx,y,z) (i.e., three-dimensional). The method is based on the bunching of identical bosonic particles in elementary emitting cells (EEC) in phase space in a manner leading to proper Bose- Einstein form of distribution of energy (this was enough to calculate C2(Qinv)). To obtain C2(Qx,y,z) as well as one has to add to it the symmetrization of the multiparticle wave function to properly correlate space-time locations of produced particles with their energy-momentum characteristics.

Opis:
The transverse spectra and interferometry volume of thermal pions in A+A collisions were estimated basing on the chemically frozen hydrodynamic evolution that incorporates the decays of resonances at the freeze-out stage. We found that the resonance decays could increase significantly the pion interferometry volume, while the pion spectra slopes are not affected much by the decays in the region up to transverse momentum 1 GeV. We also notice that in such a model the resonance contributions reduce the ratio of outward to sideward interferometry radii.

Opis:
Two-dimensional pion-proton correlation functions were analyzed in the central Pb+Au collision data taken by CERES at the top SPS energy. The correlations between the same- and the opposite-sign particles exhibit a minimum and a peak, respectively, at low relative momentum, caused by the mutual Coulomb interaction. The clearly visible asymmetry of the peak in the direction parallel to the pair momentum indicates that protons, on average, freeze-out at larger radii or at earlier times than pions. A similar result was obtained previously by the STAR experiment and was connected to the transverse flow. The high statistics of the CERES data set and the power of the two-dimensional analysis allow one to study how the observed displacement between the sources of pions and protons evolves with the transverse momentum.

We discuss a sum rule satisfied by the correlation function of two particles with small relative momenta. We first derive the sum rule, which results from the completeness condition of the quantum states of the two particles, and then we discuss it for the case of strongly interacting pair of neutron and proton and for the Coulomb system of two charged particles.

Opis:
Shape is one of the key discriminating factors in seeds. It plays a major role in seed cleaning and sorting, and it influences the bulk behavior of seeds. The shape of seeds can be described with the use of sphericity factors. In this study, the thickness, width, length and mass of principal cereal seeds (wheat, rye, barley, oats and triticale) were determined. The geometric parameters of seeds were used to calculate five sphericity factors for each seed type. The results of measurements and calculations were processed statistically by analysis of variance, correlation analysis and linear regression analysis. In the group of the analyzed cereal seeds, the lowest values were noted for sphericity factor K5 in the range of 0.046 to 0.275, and the highest values - for sphericity factor K3 in the range of 0.359 to 0.650. The shape of cereal seeds was mostly highly correlated with: thickness in barley seeds, width in wheat seeds, width and thickness in rye and triticale seeds, and length in oat seeds. All of the analyzed sphericity factors can be used interchangeably to describe the shape of cereal seeds, and the relationships between those factors can be described with linear equations.
