Opis:
As a member state of the European Union, Poland is committed to sustainability by endorsing the principles of sustainable development in its Constitution and adopting European standards. However, to overcome the societal, environmental and economic demands, a society needs to integrate sustainability concepts into daily practices, education playing a crucial role in achieving this objective. This paper aims to provide an overview of the education for sustainability in Poland and its impact on Polish society. Designed as a narrative literature review, the paper reports on how education for sustainability was carried out between 1994 and 2013, building a detailed picture of the educational programs and actions conducted in business and non –profit organizations. Additionally it is revealed that although challenging, creating community-based learning can increase people’s awareness and potential to contribute to a sustainable future by reducing the de-coupling effect between organizational actual practices and declarations.

Opis:
High gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) is effective for the separation of weakly magnetic minerals, and this method is achieved through the use of matrix, which is made of huge numbers of rod wires. So that the coupling effect of magnetic field and flow field between wires has a marked effect on the HGMS performance. In the investigation, the coupling effect between magnetic wires and its influence on high gradient magnetic separation performance were theoretically described and simulated using COMSOL Multiphysics. It is found that the magnetic field round a wire would be affected by the neighboring wires, and then a coupling effect of magnetic field between wires was produced, increasing the magnetic induction intensity on the upstream and downstream of wire surface. And the coupling effect of flow field could increase the slurry velocity at the regions of the wire surface with azimuth angles of 0° and 90°, which is beneficial for the selective capture of wire. These simulated results were basically validated with the experimental separation, using an innovative Magnetic Capture Analysis Method. It is found that the wire spacing has significant effect on the coupling effect of magnetic wires, and a critical spacing for wires could achieve an excellent coupling effect, which is beneficial for the improvement of HGMS performance. This investigation contributes to improve HGMS performance in concentrating fine weakly magnetic ores.

Opis:
In order to further investigate dynamic characteristics of turbine runner blades under the coupling effect of vibration and crack, in this article, a runner blade with a crack was taken as the research object. The coupling effect of vibration and crack was analyzed, a nonlinear dynamic model considering the coupling of the runner blade was developed, and the vibration and fatigue characteristics were investigated. First, based on the contact characteristics of the breathing crack surfaces in the runner blade under hydraulic excitation, a breathing crack surface contact model was established. Subsequently, a nonlinear dynamic model considering the coupling effect of vibration and crack was obtained. The crack surface contact force and crack stiffness matrix were established and the vibration and fatigue characteristics were analyzed. Finally, the feasibility of the dynamic model was verified by a case study, and the dynamic and vibration fatigue characteristics under the coupling effect of vibration and crack were revealed. The research results show that with propagation of the crack, the crack surface contact force increases and the dynamic stress amplitude at the crack tip increases as well. When the sum of the frequency of the hydraulic excitation and the crack surface contact force acting on the runner blade is close to the natural frequency of the runner blade, a combined resonance will occur. When the coupling effect of vibration and crack is taken into consideration, the vibration fatigue crack propagation model is more accurate and can provide a basis for fatigue strength and life prediction of runner blades.

Opis:
In this article, the current distribution of an antenna array in the presence of mutual coupling is calculated analytically by solving Pocklington’s integral equation. Blockpulse and Galerkin’s functions are used for numerical solving of Pocklington’s integral equation. In this work, the surface current distribution can be achieved for an antenna array in receiving mode, with any arbitrary structure and various numbers of elements. In all previous works, the authors have been tried to solve Pocklington’s integral equation for a single half dipole antenna in transmitting mode. Pocklington’s equation is somehow difficult to work with because of the singularity and existence of a sharp peak for a small value of wire’s radius. In order to calculate surface current distribution, for thin wires, singularity part is extracted from the kernel in aforementioned integral. Hence, the kernel is decomposed into singular and nonsingular parts. An inter-element mutual coupling effect between array elements and self-coupling for each element are assumed in this case. The validity of the proposed methodology is tested by numerical simulation results. The accuracy of the proposed method is evaluated by the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm for different scenarios to direction of arrival (DOA) estimation.

Opis:
According to the tail grouting of a double shield TBM tunnel in a soft stratum, the spherical hole model with small and large diffusion radius were established respectively considering the slurry diffusion and slurry displacement effect in the grouting compaction stage. An- alytical solutions of the spherical hole expansion stress and displacement field under the hole expansion-diffusion coupling effect are deduced. The interaction among plastic zone radius, reaming radius, initial radius of the spherical hole, and the seepage radius were analyzed. The results show that the larger the seepage pressure of grouting, the smaller the plastic radius. The larger the reaming radius is, the larger the plastic zone radius is. When the reaming radius reaches a certain value, the plastic radius tends to be stable, and the smaller the grouting seepage pressure, the earlier it tends to be stable. The above conclusions have important guiding significance for optimizing grouting parameters in weak strata.

Opis:
State-of-the-art SOI transistors require a very small body. This paper examines the effects of body thinning and thin-gate oxide in SOI MOSFETs on their electrical characteristics. In particular, the influence of film thickness on the interface coupling and carrier mobility is discussed. Due to coupling, the separation between the front and back channels is difficult in ultra-thin SOI MOSFETs. The implementation of the front-gate split C-V method and its limitations for determining the front- and back-channel mobility are described. The mobility in the front channel is smaller than that in the back channel due to additional Coulomb scattering. We also discuss the 3D coupling effects that occur in FinFETs with triple-gate and omega-gate configurations. In low-doped or tall fins the corner effect is suppressed. Narrow devices are virtually immune to substrate effects due to a strong lateral coupling between the two lateral sides of the gate. Short-channel effects are drastically reduced when the lateral coupling screens the drain influence.

Opis:
Environment friendly polymeric materials were investigated using an infrared camera in order to identify the relationship between their structure and properties including biodegradability. The experimental technique, based on the thermomechanical coupling phenomenon, was applied to investigation of polymers. Three samples of biodegradable polymers, i.e. the reference one and the modified two, were subjected to tensile and relaxation tests, according to a special program. The temperature changes were measured by a contact less method and related to mechanical characteristics. In the modified material, the temperature decrease, related to the thermoelastic effect, was observed in almost the whole range of the tensile tests. It means that the deformation does not exceed the limit of elasticity, and next, highelasticity - the stage of polymer deformation that follows the elasticity. The temperature measurements seem to be a useful tool for the investigation of biodegradable polymers: thermal characteristics may define a material according to its fragility related to biodegrability.

Opis:
The research on the coupling electromagnetic effect was studied in this paper, in consideration of the wreaking damage of the powerful electromagnetic pulse to the electronic products. The characteristic of the metallic via and stub interconnect with the coupling voltage was calculated by the model, which was the transfer function F( f ) of the protection circuit parameters of DC power source. The research showed that: the smaller radius of Metallic via, the lower amplitude of F( f ), the less energy of a power electro- magnetic pulse (PEP); the higher increase of the width of the stub interconnect, the bigger reduction of the characteristic impedance of plane wave coupling, the depth of the notch band significantly narrowed. The simulations and experiments were done to compare the protection effects of protection circuits with different parameters at last. The results showed that the protection circuit designed could be highly advantageous in protecting the DC power source in this article.

Due to speed-dependent centrifugal forces, the support of the torque, static mechanical stress introduced by manufacturing processes the laminated core of rotating electrical machines is exposed to considerable mechanical stress. The resulting stress distribution changes the magnetic properties of the electrical steel. To take this into account, a magnetization model is constituted on the basis of vector magneto-mechanical measurements that include the magnetic permeability as a function of the mechanical stress and the angle between magnetization - and the maximum principal stress direction. Subsequently, the model is integrated into the finite element simulation of a permanent magnet excited synchronous machine at different rotational speeds.

Opis:
Conformational studies of the pyranose and furanose rings are important and have been carried out for years. Knowledge of the conformation of monosaccharide is essential for understanding its physical, chemical and biological properties. Additionally, conformation of the sugar ring plays a crucial role in the stereochemistry of the reaction in which it participates. This paper provides a basic knowledge concerning the conformational preferences of a monosaccharide ring. The pyranose ring conformations are defined with reference to a cyclohexane ring [1–3]. Factors influencing stability of the pyranose chair conformation are discussed: the 1,3-diaxial interactions [4–6] and anomeric effect [7–10]. It is shown how to estimate the relative stabilities of the two chair conformations on the basis of the Angyal destabilizing factors [11, 12]. It is also demonstrated how to use the NMR spectroscopy for conformational analysis [13–23]. Conformations of the unsaturated pyranose rings are defined and studied mainly on the glycals [24–29], the monosaccharides with a double bond between the C1 and C2 carbon atoms. Factors influencing stability of the unsaturated pyranose ring are disscused: the allylic effect [30] also named the vinylogous anomeric effect [31–34], and quasi 1,3-diaxial interactions [35, 36]. Finally, the furanose ring conformations and pseudorotational itinerary for a d-aldofuranose ring are presented [37]. Two parameters defining the furanose ring conformation are introduced: the amplitude of pseudorotation [38, 39], named also the maximum torsion angle [4] and pseudorotational phase angle [4]. The possible ways to study the conformation of the furanose ring are disscused [40–44].

Opis:
The destruction of rock under the condition of a close submerged jet has become a hot topic of scientific research and engineering application in the past decade. With the unremitting efforts of a large number of experts and scholars around the world, gratifying progress has been made in the research of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) on the internal and external flow fields of the jet nozzle, the theoretical derivation of rock mechanics on the fracture initiation and propagation criteria of hydraulic fracturing, and the numerical simulation of jet erosion mechanism under the coupling of fluid and solid fields, however, for the rock mechanics hydraulic fracturing cutting engineering scale of non-oil drilling fracturing technology, the research on the fluid-solid coupling boundary conditions of fracturing fluid and hard dense rock under the flow state conditions of the submerged field inside and outside the borehole is not sufficient. In the calculation of the fluid-solid coupling boundary flow field under the non-submerged jet state, the control equation with Reynolds number between 2300-4000 shall be selected, while it belongs to the laminar flow state in the stage of hole sealing and pressurised fracturing. Therefore, Von-Mises equivalent plastic stress is selected in the mechanical model to calibrate the failure state of the rock-solid boundary, and the control equations of laminar flow and turbulent flow are selected to calibrate the fluid boundary. The mechanism of different stages of rock breaking by hydraulic fracturing jet can be further analysed in detail, and Comsol 6.0 multi-physical field simulation software is selected for verification. The research results will help deepen the understanding of rock breaking mechanism by jet and optimise the selection of parameters for field construction.

Opis:
Masting, the highly variable production of synchronized large seed crops, is a common reproductive strategy in plant populations. In wind-pollinated trees, flowering and pollination dynamics are hypothesized to provide the mechanistic link for the well-known relationship between weather and population-level seed production. Several hypotheses make predictions about the effect of weather on annual pollination success. The pollen coupling hypothesis predicts that weather and plant resources drive the flowering effort of trees which directly translates into the size of seed crops through efficient pollination. In contrast, the pollination Moran effect hypothesis predicts that weather affects pollination efficiency, leading to occasional bumper crops. Furthermore, the recently formulated phenology synchrony hypothesis predicts that Moran effects can arise because of weather effects on flowering synchrony, which, in turn, drives pollination efficiency. We investigated the relationship between weather, airborne pollen, and seed production in common European trees, two oak species (Quercus petraea and Q. robur) and beech (Fagus sylvatica) with a 19-year data set from three sites in Poland. Our results show that warm summers preceding flowering correlated with high pollen abundance and warm springs resulted in short pollen seasons (i.e. high flowering synchrony) for all three species. Pollen abundance was the best predictor for seed crops in beech, as predicted under pollen coupling. In oaks, short pollen seasons, rather than pollen abundance, correlated with large seed crops, providing support for the pollination Moran effect and phenology synchrony hypotheses. Fundamentally different mechanisms may therefore drive masting in species of the family Fagacae.

W niniejszej pracy badano sześciowarstwowe hybrydowe płyty kompozytowe wykonane z laminatu czterowarstwowego oraz z dwóch okładzin z materiału wykazującego efekt piezoelektryczny. Rozważono różne układy warstw oraz różne warunki brzegowe. Do symulacji numerycznych metodą elementów skończonych zastosowano komercyjny system Abaqus, który umożliwia modelowanie zjawiska sprzężenia elektromechanicznego w zagadnieniach statycznych oraz dynamicznych. Na wstępie metodami numerycznymi MES wyznaczono statyczne ugięcia płyt wywołane przez przyłożone napięcie zasilające do okładzin zewnętrznych. Dodatkowo porównano strzałki ugięcia dla różnych napięć. Otrzymane rezultaty obliczeń porównano z wynikami zaczerpniętymi z prac innych autorów. Wykonane symulacje potwierdziły adekwatność przygotowanego modelowania do symulacji zagadnienia sprzężenia elektromechanicznego. W drugim etapie wykonano numeryczną analizę modalną układu z uwzględnieniem (tzw. układ otwarty) i bez uwzględnienia (tzw. układ zamknięty) efektu piezoelektrycznego dla różnych układów warstw. Prezentowane modele MES umożliwią analizy innych hybrydowych elementów konstrukcyjnych wykazujących sprzężenie elektromechaniczne.
In the present paper, six-layer hybrid composite panels, made of four-layered laminate and two facings of piezoelectric material were studied. Different configurations of laminate layers and different boundary conditions were considered. The Numerical simulations using Finite Element Method were performed with the commercial system Abaqus, which allowed for modelling the phenomena of electromechanical coupling, both in static and dynamic cases. Firstly, static deflection of the plates induced by the applied voltage on the external facings was determined with numerical methods (FEM). In addition, the deflections at different voltages were compared. The results of static calculations were validated with those published by other authors. The performed simulations have confirmed the adequacy of the FEM model for the simulation at electromechanical coupling. In the second stage, numerical analysis of the system with piezoelectric effect (open system) and without the piezoelectric effect (closed system) was performed. The presented FEM models are expected to contribute to analyses of other hybrid structural elements exhibiting electromechanical coupling.

Potential technological and medical features of circularly polarized light recently drew much attention to designing of materials capable of effective and selective interaction with this light. This resulted in a wide variety of methods of obtaining these materials, and so in an array of observations with respect to structure of matter – interaction with circularly polarized light relation. From the viewpoint of organic chemistry, these observations can lead to effective chiral chromophores and fluorophores, which are useful in this thrieving technology and also work in the molecular scale. In this work, an attempt was taken to base the chirality of the material on a chiral axis, linking two benzo[b]furan rings. The nature of this thesis’ issues is mostly synthetic, as skillful planing of organic synthesis is the key to obtaining these compounds. I present here two approaches – based on various literature insights and organic chemistry principles – which aim at obtaining aromatic, intrinsically chiral materials, that absorb and emit in the UV-Vis range and potentially exhibit a high Cotton effect.
