Opis:
The paper contains the results of eight-year-long studies on the runoff of nitrates from heavy soils used as croplands. The runoffs of nitrates from a drainage catchment and a catchment drained with ditches were compared. The drainage system was found to carry away twice as much water, with a five-fold higher concentration of nitrates and 20-fold higher load of nitrates, than the system of ditches. High runoff of nitrates (22 kg ha-1 annually) from the soils drained by drains was distributed quite evenly throughout the year, with maximum peaks in March and June. Nitrate runoff through the system of ditches was low (1.15 kg ha-1 annually), reaching maximum peaks in March and April (62% of the load), but disappearing in the summer.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki 8-letnich badań odpływu azotanów z gleb ciężkich użytkowanych ornie. Porównywano odpływ azotanów ze zlewni drenarskiej i zlewni odwadnianej rowami. Stwierdzono, że system drenarski odprowadza 2-krotnie więcej wody o 5-krotnie wyższym stężeniu azotanów i 20-krotnie wyższym ich ładunku niż system rowów. Z gleb odwadnianych drenami wysoki odpływ azotanów (22 kg rocznie z 1 ha) rozkładał się równomiernie w ciągu roku, z maksimum w marcu i czerwcu. Odpływ azotanów systemem rowów był niewielki (1,15 kg rocznie z 1 ha), z maksimum w marcu i kwietniu (62% ładunku) i zanikiem odpływu latem.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to present and evaluate the opinion of farmers on the financing of holding foreign capital under criterion of cropland area usage in farms. The study was conducted using a questionnaire interview on a group of 100 farmers individual agricultural holdings leading accounting and agricultural FADN system, in mazowieckie voivodship. The main objectives of increasing the debt level were indicated by farmers in two opposing aims such as maintaining liquidity at a safe level and carrying out rapid modernization and development of farms. The greatest number of determinants shaping the debt level were found in farms characterized with the largest cropland areas. Among the most frequently cited factors by farmers, mainly were distinguish: the value of investments which need external financing and the value of the loan and interest.

In the Northeast Himalayas (NEH) region, four major conventional land-use types are forest, Jhum lands, fallow Jhum lands and plantations, but little is known about their sustainability and responses to changes. We collected soil samples at two uniform depths (0-15 and 15-30 cm) from the Zunheboto district of Nagaland (India). The dataset was statistically analyzed by conducting an ANOVA-one way, principal component analysis (PCA) and calculating an additive soil quality index (SQIa). Our results confirmed that sand content, bulk density (BD), porosity, soil organic carbon (SOC), cation exchange capacity (CEC), exchangeable calcium and potassium showed significant statistical differences among soil depths depending on the land use management. PCA results showed that soil texture, BD, porosity, SOC and exchangeable cations could be consideredthe major indicators to define soil quality. After estimating the SQIa, Jhum soils showed the highest values at the surface, while at 15-30 cm soil depth, fallow Jhum soils phase showed the highest ones. The conversion from natural forest to plantation does not hamper the SQ, but their conversion into Jhum may even increase it, for a shorter duration. However, after 1-2 year of cultivation and conversion from Jhum into fallow Jhum land, soil quality could be reduced.

Opis:
Analiza danych zebranych w drodze wywiadu kierowanego, pozwoliła jednoznacznie stwierdzić istotność współzależności pomiędzy wiekiem właścicieli gospodarstw a wartością mocy zainstalowanej w parku maszynowym w badanych gospodarstwach. Przeprowadzona analiza korelacyjno-regresyjna wykazała istotną statystycznie ujemną relację pomiędzy wiekiem rolników a mocą zainstalowaną, co obrazuje współczynnik korelacji równy - 0,48.
Analysis of the data collected during a directed interview allowed to univocally show relevance of correlation between farmstead owner's age and the value of power installed at the machine park of the analyzed farmsteads. The performed correlational and regressive analysis demonstrated statistically relevant negative relation between the farmer's age and installed power, which is illustrated by the correlation factor of 0,48.

Opis:
Studies performed with the method of steered interview were carried out in 2004-2009 in 9 organic meadow farms in mountain areas and in 32 farms in lowland voivodships. The mean area of agricultural lands (AL) in studied farms was 46.14 ha in 2009 and ranged from 3.01 ha to 305.80 ha. Productive (yields and animal stock) and economic (standard gross margin per ha of AL and per fulltime employed person) results were related to natural, agricultural and economic characteristics. A hypothesis was formulated that it is possible to produce ecologically allowable, socially accepted and economically effective healthy food in organic mountain farms. Analysed factors included: the area of agricultural lands (AL), cow stock, milk efficiency, farmers' age and the value of fixed assets in zł per ha AL. Low to medium level of investment in fixed assets and relatively low level of direct costs of plant and animal production was noted in studied farms. Incomes from agricultural production in studied mountain farms were medium to low; higher from animal (cattle and sheep) than from plant production. Gross margin both per ha AL and per full-time employed person was medium to low in relation to all farms in the country. Generally, the costs of agricultural production in studied organic farms were not always compensated by incomes. They were only compensated by the state and EU subsidies. It was concluded that in both lowland and mountain organic farms the production of high quality food is possible providing a definite level of subsidies.
