Opis:
Potentially hazardous side-channels of complex geometry need to be investigated using detailed hydraulic physical models. This study aims to analyse the cross-waves pattern and pulsating flow using a side-channel spillway physical model. This study compares the cross-waves pattern were measured using an experimental installation set to generate cross-waves on the surface (original series) with another structure that did not produce cross-waves (modified series). The results showed that the geometry of the left wall caused instability in flow patterns and secondary flows. The starting point of Q2 discharge was detected by minor turbulence on the water surface near the left wall at a water depth of 3.3 m at the starting point of the wall, but with no overtopping. Cross-waves formed downstream at the right wall crosswise, lower than at the left wall. The height of the cross-wave increased substantially from Q100 to Q1000 discharges leading to overtoppings near the left wall at a water depths of 4.2 and 5.0 m at the starting point of the wall, and near the right wall at a water depths of 3.8 and 4.0 m at the upstream point of the wall. The modifications provided optimal hydraulic conditions, i.e. elimination of cross-waves and non-uniform flows. The Vedernikov and Montouri numbers showed that both original and modified series did not enter the area where the pulsating flow occurred. This indicated that both series were free from the pulsating flow.

Opis:
The paper presents a comparative analysis of physical processes occurring at two different coasts, which belong to two different European seas. The first coast under examination comprises the sandy shore nearby Lubiatowo, located at the south Baltic Sea in Poland. The second site is represented by the sandy coast in Shkorpilovtsi, located at the west Black Sea in Bulgaria. Both sites are equipped with field research facilities ensuring extensive and precise in situ investigations. The study is focused on differences and similarities of hydro- and lithodynamics as well as the nearshore morphology between the above coastal zones. The present analysis is based on the results of the field campaigns carried out in recent years at the research facilities in Lubiatowo and Shkorpilovtsi. Considering the way in which wave energy transforms on the cross-shore profile, the sea shore at Lubiatowo is found distinctly dissipative while the shore at RB Shkorpilovtsi has a reflective character. This fact implies some differences in the features of wave-current motion and sediment transport.

Opis:
In order to make a navigable connection between the Vistula Lagoon and the Baltic Sea independent of an attitude of the Russian authorities, a cross-cut in the Polish part of the Vistula Spit is planned. The cross-cut will constitute an alternative waterway with respect to the existing one, leading through the Pilawa Strait which belongs to the Russian territorial waters. The new outlet will require breakwaters and an approach channel on the open sea side, as well as a waterway across the Vistula Lagoon to the harbour of Elbląg. The planned cross-cut is located about 3 km from the root of the Vistula Spit, at Skowronki village. The paper comprises an analysis of regional wave parameters in a mean statistical year on the basis of the Baltic wave climate reconstructed for the period of 44 years, together with a calculation of the longshore sediment transport rates. An influence of the planned coastal structures on the shoreline evolution, as well as the approach channel silting-up rates, in the first 10 years after the construction of the cross-cut, are estimated. An optimised layout of the planned approach channel and lengths of the planned breakwaters are recommended to facilitate the maintenance of the coast and the new waterway.

Opis:
The paper deals with a sandy shore located on the open sea side of the Hel Peninsula in Poland (the south Baltic Sea coast). The study site displays a cross-shore profile that intensively dissipates wave energy, mostly due to breaking. The theoretical modelling of wave transformation at this site reveals specific distributions of wave heights and bed shear stresses. The sediment borrow areas, presently used and identified for future exploitation, are located inconveniently far from the periodically re-nourished shores. The paper presents the possibilities of dredging works in the coastal zone that would not disturb the natural nearshore motion of water and sediments. The results of the study can be helpful in formulating generic safety standards, at least with respect to dissipative shores of non-tidal or micro-tidal seas, like the Baltic Sea.

We present a software package JMATRIX, consisting of two computer codes written in FORTRAN 95 and parallelized with OpenMP, implementing the so-called J-matrix method, applied to elastic scattering of electrons on the radial potential, vanishing faster than the Coulomb potential. In the J-matrix method, the physical scattering problem is replaced by using a well-defined model which is solved analytically. The presented software implements both non-relativistic and relativistic versions of the method, and allows calculations of scattering phase shifts as well as cross sections, in cases when the scattering potential is given through an analytical formula. We performed test calculations for the scattering potential modeled as a truncated Coulomb potential. We show that the numerical phase shifts to converge as we increase the size of the basis used to truncate the scattering potential, and that the method is suitable for calculating the total differential momentum transfer and spin polarization cross sections, using the partial-wave analysis.

Opis:
A woven fabric structure is defined by mutual threads interlacing in the fabric as well as the basic parameters of the fabric. The interrelation among fabric parameters can be obtained by considering a geometrical model of the fabric and specific experimental methods. The geometrical model is mainly concerned with the shape taken up by the yarn in the warp or weft cross-section of the fabric. This article provides a possible methodology for evaluation of geometric parameters of threads in the real longitudinal and transverse cross-sections of fabric. From an individual cross-section of the fabric using image analysis it is possible to define the diameter of threads, their deformation, thread spacing, the maximum displacement (height of binding wave) of the thread axis, the angle of the thread axis (interlacing angle), the length of the thread axis in the cross-section of the fabric, the crimp of threads in the fabric, and the real shape of the binding wave through wave coordinates. The parameters mentioned are possible to use as input for mathematical modelling of the fabric structure and for prediction of mechanical and end-use properties of fabrics.
Struktura tkaniny określona jest przez wzajemne przeploty nitek i podstawowe parametry tkaniny. Wzajemne zależności pomiędzy parametrami tkaniny mogą być określone poprzez tworzenie odpowiedniego modelu i badania eksperymentalne. Geometryczny model został opracowany poprzez badanie kształtu przeplotu poszczególnych nitek. Opisano odpowiednie metody dla określenia wzdłużnych i poprzecznych przekrojów tkaniny. Na podstawie poszczególnych przekrojów tkaniny można określić średnice nitki, jej deformacje, odległości miedzy nitkami, maksymalne odchylenie od osi nitki, kąt osi nitki, długości osi nitki w stosunku do określonego odcinka tkaniny, skurcz nitki i rzeczywisty kształt przebiegu nitki w stosunku do współrzędnych tkaniny. Powyższe parametry mogą służyć jako wielkości wejściowe modelu dla określenia mechanicznych i użytkowych właściwości tkaniny.
