Opis:
Cyberbullying and cyberaggression are phenomena that have been analysed for more than two decades. However, there is an empirical gap in the literature to characterise the scale of the phenomenon in certain countries and professional groups (e.g. teachers). In order to fill this gap, 733 teachers from Poland responded to questions identifying the scale and mechanisms of Internet attacks resulting from their profession. Based on the data collected, it was noted that (1) each type of information and communications technology (ICT)-mediated attack on teachers is characterised by varying frequency of occurrence; (2) at least once in their careers, 17.5% of teachers have experienced a situation of dissemination of negative comments about them, 10.8% have received negative digital messages intended to trigger negative emotions, and 8.3% have faced hacking (taking over) of a private online account; (3) systematic attacks (at least once a month) on teachers comprise a group of no more than 1% of respondents; (4) there is an apparent correlation between both the lack of experience of cyberattacks by profession and the co-occurrence of different forms of cyber aggression and cyberbullying; (5) based on a cluster analysis using the k-means method, two groups of teachers were identified, where the first (91%) was characterised by a lack of experience of cyberbullying, while the second (9%) rarely or very rarely experienced an attack due to their profession; and (6) teachers teaching in a vocational school, working in a medium or large city, or being male results in a slightly higher exposure to cyberbullying attacks.

Opis:
The twin phenomena of cyberbullying and cyberaggression are among the most common e-threats. Today, much is known about the aggression and violence mediated by new media and targeted at students. However, there is still an empirical gap in the consideration of the mechanisms and forms of cyberaggression and cyberbullying targeting teachers. The aim of this study is to present 10 types of cyber-attacks that teachers have been subjected to in Poland in the last few years. The types of attacks presented include vilification in the information space (forums and social networking sites), direct attack using social networks, recording teachers without their consent, online blackmail, creation and dissemination of memes, photomontage, latent cyberbullying, destructive actions in the COVID-19 period, the creation of fake profiles, and the use of a digital tool in an offline environment. The subject of the study was the statements of post-secondary school graduates who had encountered such phenomena. The article highlights the need to increase digital safety for teachers.

Online attacks on teachers versus strategies to address cyberbullying and cyberaggression in the school ecosystem
Autorzy:
Tomczyk, Łukasz
Opis:
The aim of the article is to present ways of resolving the situations related to cyberbullying and cyberaggression that occur in Polish schools. The research fills a gap (taboo subject) in the means of solving crisis situations related to attacks on teachers that occur online. The qualitative research (online interviews) conducted in Poland at the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024 involved teachers who had been attacked by students and/or parents because of their profession. On the basis of the analysis and categorization (in the grounded theory stream), nine strategies were identified: educational and preventive actions targeted at students; working with the student’s family; removal of harmful content from the Internet; independent action by teachers; notifying the police; involvement of judicial authorities; individual consequences for the student; a combination of these different forms; and no response to the cyber-attack. The research was carried out as part of the digitally safer teacher project and is characterized by a praxeological dimension related to the special attention paid to the protection of teachers in cyberspace.

Opis:
Schools attempt to manage with the escalation of the electronic aggression applied by pupils, across restrictions and the war, causing this winding up of the spiral of the violence. The however effective counteraction of the electronic aggression is possible through the use of typical educational manners, that is increasing the empathic sensibility and other prosocial efficiencies counterpoising for the antisocial behaviour. The importance of the school in the teaching of the responsible, socialized use from devices of the electronic communication was discussed.
