Opis:: The aim of this paper is to show that gender, both as a biological and social category, ceases to exist in the vision of man constructed by contemporary genetics. In the paper, I present the elementary concepts of genetic engineering and liberal genetics, and show how these two currents in genetics change gender into a feature deprived of any designata. I advance a thesis that the man of the future, a cyborg, is a man without gender.

Opis:: Ciało stanowi granicę między podmiotem i przedmiotem. Rzeczy, również te, którymi posługuje się człowiek, mają zawsze inny status prawny niż człowiek. Żywy organizm homo sapiens jest osobą fizyczną, podmiotem, który jest w określonych relacjach do tego, co się znajduje poza nim, natomiast nie jest w relacji właścicielskiej z samym sobą. Jak ocenić jednak przedmioty połączone trwale z ciałem? Czy stają się one częścią ciała a zatem składową podmiotu, czy też pozostają nadal rzeczami, których status można oceniać według regulacji właściwych rzeczom? A może ich status jest jakiś inny, pośredni między przedmiotem a podmiotem? Być może odpowiedzi na te pytania wymagają zmiany paradygmatu, zgodnie z którym ciało jest granicą podmiotu. Podmiot może sięgać poza ciało, ale może obejmować też przedmioty sztuczne, również, ale nie tylko te, które zostały z ciałem połączone.
The body serves as a boundary between the subject and the object. Things, including those used by a human being, always differ in terms of their legal status from that of a human being. The living organism of homo sapiens is a natural person; the subject that is in certain relations with things outside it but is not in an ownership relation with itself. Nevertheless, how to assess objects permanently connected to the body? Do they become part of the body, and consequently an element of the subject, or do they still remain things whose status can be assessed according to regulations applicable to things? Or maybe their status is distinct, in between the object and the subject? Perhaps answers to these questions necessitate the modification of the paradigm according to which the body delimits the subject’s boundary. The subject may reach beyond the body, but it can also encompass artificial objects, including but not limited to those that have been connected to the body.

Opis:: The aim of this article is to analyze selected theoretical issues concerning perceptual systems in which hybrid qualia arise. By “hybrid qualia”, I mean subjective sensory experiences generated in technologically modified perceptual systems. In the first section, I propose an original perspective on the relationships between hybrid systems, extended systems, and cyborgs. In the second section, I discuss examples of auditory, visual, and tactile hybrid qualia in technologically modified perceptual systems. In the third section, I analyze unconventional hybrid qualia in the context of research on sensory substitution, sensory enhancement, and sensory supplementation. At the end of the article, I formulate philosophical conclusions and outline prospects for further research.

Opis:: Since 2014, the Russian aggression in Ukraine has prompted filmmakers to master a new genre of war drama to tell the stories of those who serve in the Ukrainian army or the territorial defense, as well as those who contribute to the war effort as volunteers. The article discusses Ukrainian war drama films: Cyborgs. Heroes Don’t Die, Call Sign Banderas, Mother of Apostles, Ilovaysk 2014. Donbas Battalion, Sniper. The White Raven. These films integrate war drama with other genres such as detective stories, adventure films, and psychological drama. They also refer to some archetypal themes and conflicts in order to frame the current experience of the war. However, it will be argued that these films do not simply reuse the existing genre models, but complicate them. They refresh war drama by prioritizing the concrete experience of the ongoing war against Russian aggression over the genre conventions. Ukrainian war drama shows not a game of war but the truth of war. It tells the real stories of the bravery of ordinary people who fight against Russian aggression.

Opis:: Tematem pracy jest motyw cyborga w II połowie XX wieku w perspektywie posthumanizmu na przykładzie filmu „Blade Runner” i twórczości P.K. Dicka. Praca zajmuje się tematem cyborga post- i transhumanizmu oraz tym jak motywy te funkcjonują w kulturze i pop- kulturze. Pierwszy rozdział traktuje o różnych ujęciach posthumanizmu: posthumanizm a religia i filozofia, feministyczne ujęcie tematu posthumanizmu, symulakry i symulacja Jeana Baudrillarda, Barbie a posthumanizm, wirtualna rzeczywistość, przywołane zostają koncepcje różnych techno-utopii, a także technofobii. Drugi rozdział zajmuje się cyberpunkiem. Rozdział trzeci przedstawia motyw androida w powieści Philipa Dicka i filmie Ridleya Scotta i analizę filmu „Blade Runner”.
The topic of this dissertation is the cyborg theme in second half of 20th century in perspective of posthumanism basing on the example of movie “Blade Runner” and an output of P.K.Dick. The dissertation contains topics such as cyborgs, post- and transhumanism and how these themes function in culture and popular culture. First chapter is about different conceptualizations of posthumanism: posthumanism and religion, philosophy, feminist view of the topic, Jean Baudrillard’s simulacrum and simulation, Barbie doll and posthumanism, virtual reality, different conceptions of techno-utopias and technophobia are connoted. Second chapter concerns cyberpunk. Third chapter shows android theme in Philip Dick novel and Ridley Scott’s movie and analysis of movie “Blade Runner”.
