Opis:
The poetic texts of priest Pasierb present a peculiar sensitivity to the names of colours. The author of Koziorożec ( Capricorn ) paid particular attention to the role  of light, hence his works present a separate category of expressions regarding light and darkness, flash and brightness. It is the result of, among others, the culturallyconditioned evaluation of light and dark and the related axiological attitude towards the world. Also present are numerous lexemes situated in the lexical field of, for instance, red, yellow, golden, blue, black and white. The collected material shows that the names of colours present in Pasierb’s works do not so much name reality as co-create the mood of particular texts, creating as a result a set of delicate poetic impressions.

Symbolika światłości i ciemności, dobrze znana autorom Starego Testamentu, występuje szczególnie często w Ewangelii Janowej. Podczas gdy łatwo jest odgadnąć, że dla Jana symbol światła odnosi się do działania Chrystusa w świecie, trudniej jest dokładnie sprecyzować symbolikę – zdecydowanie negatywną – ciemności; opinie komentatorów są bardzo podzielone. Biblijny obraz światła łączy w sobie nierozdzielnie wymiar poznawczy i moralny, światło pozwala poznać Boga, wskazuje drogę do Niego, a zarazem odsłania prawdę o ludzkich czynach, dlatego sprawcy zła unikają światła, ukrywając w mroku swoje czyny. W teologii Janowej męka Jezusa jest ukazana jako czas działania ciemności, jednak jej zwycięstwo jest tylko pozorne i bardzo krótkie: po nocy męki nadchodzi świt zmartwychwstania.
The symbolism of light and darkness, well known to the authors of the Old Testament, appears particularly often in the Gospel according to St. John. While it is relatively easy to guess that for the writer the symbol of light represents the active presence of Christ in the world, it is much harder to identify precisely the symbolism – undoubtedly negative – of the darkness. On this point commentators have differed very much in their opinions. The biblical image of light joins inseparably a cognitive dimension and a moral one: the light allows us to get to know God, marking the way to Him, and at the same time reveals the truth of human deeds. That is why evildoers avoid the light, hiding their deeds in darkness. In the theology of St. John, the Passion of Christ is presented as a time when darkness prevails, yet its victory is only a brief illusion. Following the night of Passion, the dawn of the Resurrection approaches.

Opis:
The author presents the theatre of Gisèle Vienne, a French-Austrian director and choreographer, as a laboratory exploiting darkness being a place for the becoming of the subject, for experiencing disturbed reality, for abolishing the opposition between the living and the dead. Exploring twilight, the director touches upon phenomena that violate the norms that in the general perception belong to the field of negativity, reveals that which is covered, that which activates the imagination. Darkness becomes a space for an intimate narration of hidden human dispositions. This article is an analysis of the performance Crowd (2017), in particular the three components that determine its structure and dramaturgy, i.e. time, light and space. The author engaged in a process of overt participant observation; she followed the rehearsals for the performance from 2016 to 2017 and created her own archive of the research process.

Opis:
The priest’s permanent spiritual formation is supposed to lead him to a mystic unification. That is why the article ascertains that the mystic unifica-tion achieved by the presbyter is a source of his sainthood and his pastoral love, and betrothed love for the Church. It signifies the presbyter’s sainthood pro-cess, consisting in the development of supernatural virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit. It also represents the undertaking of the spiritual struggle against the flaws, effects of the original sin. At the same time, an active and passive cleansing occurs in the process. The whole process has to mirror Jesus’ atti-tudes and deeds as Servant, follow his example in the attitude, development of love, and humble service towards every human being. Thus, the priest’s per-manent formation is a source and driving force of pastoral service. It should be noted that the process of the priest’s mystic sainthood is not presented in semi-naries, instead an ascetic model is propagated.

Opis:
The paper discusses some metaphors of night, evening, darkness, twilight and their related phenomena. They have all been selected from the short stories written by Bruno Schulz. The analysis of the metaphors allows us to notice a certain character of Schulz's metaphorization, consisting in associating darkness with negative phenomena. Darkness and night are shown by Schulz in a metaphorical manner as personified elements capable of creating reality. That reality is not friendly to man, hostile, possessive, and has a destructive influence on man and his surrounding. An important role in the metaphorical presentation of night is played by metaphors in whose lexical composition there appear names bringing to mind semantic associations. These metaphors are usually valued as negative, both in emotional and aesthetic sense. Such names are, above all, names of diseases and their symptoms, names causing negative tactile sensations and stimulating imagination to create scenes with a negative influence on our psyche.

Victor Hugo’s novel "The Man who laughed" represents suffering, evil and tragedy as shared both by man and elements of nature, both by the persecutor and the persecuted. Evil is shown as represented by darkness, abyss, and all material aspects of being; goodness is identified with radiance, light, ascendancy and spirituality. Those values have social, political and moral aspects, but also metaphysical and cosmic ones, Hugo treating these as Ananke, a specific fate transcending all dimensions of being. The plot of the novel describes in detail particular places where the dramatic events take place, literally creating a topography of evil.

Heart of Darkness is often seen as a parable on the subject of human nature or as a critique of modern Western civilization and its colonial crimes. The novella was obviously planned not as a story ‘about’ Africa, but above all as a story that makes the reader – like Marlow – confront the experience of an unknown cultural context. As such, it is an exemplary tale about the meeting of cultures and the experience of cultural otherness, which cannot be reduced to a mere epistemological pattern. This article is an attempt to apply the concept of the ritual of passing and Victor Turner’s theory of liminality to a reading of Conrad’s novella.
