Opis:: Designing a machine’s constructions and an object’s structures is one of the areas of technology design. The complexity of the structure is defined by the technology for which it is used. Following the theory of construction and mechanisms, the full characteristics of a machine or device is defined by its shape and operating parameters. The shape reflects geometry. As a result of using the correct parameters, the construction should functional correctly (which means according to its general principles of operation). The project of any structure is a creative process performed by a team of designers and constructors. The contemporary design is not solely based on the personal preferences of engineers. More and more scientific and computerized design methods are being introduced to this process. They are characterized as computer-aided systems and are based on algorithms, programs, and IT equipment. This article presents the methodological application of computer-aided design on an example of the design of shaft furnaces that are used in foundries as cast iron smelters. These furnaces, called cupolas, have again become objects of interest for research. In the design of the cupola construction, Autodesk Inventor techniques were used.

Opis:: Argumentation skills play a vital role in students’ ability to master the learning process because, by employing these skills, they can explain real-world phenomena scientifically. This research focused on developing an argumentation tool based on the engineering design process (EDP) to improve students’ argumentation skills in science classrooms. This study utilised the research methods outlined by Plomp & Nieveen, which include problem identification, design, and implementation stages. This study, which involved 150 junior high school student participants, was conducted to implement the argumentation tool as a learning material to help students to understand heat transfer information in science learning. The indicators of argumentation skills included claims, evidence, and reasoning. The study results showed that five experts validated the argumentation tool in science learning development as appropriate for implementation as a practical tool in the science learning classroom. Furthermore, students’ argumentation skills improved significantly, mainly related to developing claims and collecting evidence based on the N-gain evaluation.

Opis:: The aim of this article is to indicate selected possibilities of analysing the construct of proactivity. This goal was achieved by referring to selected definitions and the concepts of proactivity and by discussing a research project aimed at recognizing the proactivity of students towards their professional career. To measure the level of proactivity, the Scale of Proactive Behavior in Career was used, which includes four types of proactivity: general, cognitive, in building a support network and in building psychological comfort. The independent variables in the research were: taking on professional activity during studies, using services offered by a Career Office and a career counsellor. 271 students from four Polish universities took part in the study. The highest mean score was on the general proactivity scale, followed by the proactivity scale in building a support network, the scale of proactivity in building psychological comfort, and the lowest on the scale of cognitive proactivity. These means differ statistically. The conducted analysis also proved that the level of proactivity is statistically significantly differentiated depending on whether the respondents used the Career Office or a career counsellor. The conclusions from the analysis were discussed in two perspectives – diagnostic and methodical.

Multiple levels of details in defined space are directed and established simultaneously.

Opis:: The subject of the research is the architecture of the residential buildings and the issues of repeatability and individuality of the emerging forms and spatial systems in the light of the various factors influencing their ultimate appearance and perception. The purpose of the research is to show the positive features of the contemporary used repetitive elements in individual buildings and entire units of objects, which in turn gives very customised solutions. In support of this thesis in the article there is an attempt to summarize some of the findings resulting from the long practice of the proffesional architect, and adduction of examples of such objects from the area of Poland and the world. Collected research material was analysed in terms of the impact of the various areas of life on the design process and the evolution of the surrounding space. The result of the study is that the use of repetition forms in parts or the whole of residential buildings, has, paradoxically, a positive impact on individual character of the buildings.

Opis:: Łączenie biznesowego obiektywizmu i racjonalności z subiektywnym, opartym na eksperymentowaniu, designem jest z pozoru sprzeczne. Design thinking pozwala na tworzenie unikalnych rozwiązań, bo opartych na empatii, czyli głębokim rozpoznaniu potrzeb użytkowników, a przy tym racjonalnych biznesowo. Zastosowanie metody design thinking to kreatywny i jednocześnie uporządkowany proces. Został on w artykule przedstawiony i scharakteryzowany, a dodatkowo wzbogacony o przykład nowej, opracowanej i wdrożonej przez autorkę usługi — „warsztatów czekoladowych Goplana” adresowanych do dzieci.
Combining business objectivity and rationality with subjective experiment-based design is seemingly contradictory. However, a new understanding of the term 'design' as being not only creative but also responsible, useful, and problem-solving to the same extent, has paved the way to developing a new work method — design thinking. The article's aim is to familiarize the reader with the method, its stages and benefits, especially emphasizing the aspect of explaining practical solutions, tools, results, and effects. Design thinking allows to create unique solutions, since they are based on empathy, a thorough identification of the needs of users, while being rational business-wise. Working with design thinking is a creative as well as organized process. It is presented and characterized in the article, and supplemented with a new service, developed and implemented by the author — Goplana chocolate workshops, addressed to children.

Opis:: This paper discusses the basic principles and guidelines derived from psychology, cognitive science and related disciplines that can inform the process of designing website or application in User Centered Design methodology. Interface constitutes the connection between the human and the computer or device. Its main goal is to help the user to operate the system or the machine. Too often though, interfaces are designed with the focus only on technological innovations, requirements and limitations. To make them efficient though, it is important to focus on the end user needs as well. Commercial success of solutions created nowadays hinges on intuitive, simple, elegant and convenient – usable solutions, which allow the user to realize her tasks with ease. To successfully design for people, it is necessary to have at least basic knowledge regarding their needs, goals and behaviours as well as physical and cognitive limitations. Experiments in the domain of psychology have been analyzing human behavior and cognition for over 100 years now – there is a lot of knowledge to draw from in order to make informed decisions in the design process.

Opis:: Designing products is a sequence of decisions. Especially early decisions have great impact on later product life cycle stages. The more complex products become the more information is required in order to support design when making decisions. The present contribution shows for the example of the skill-intensive technology of microsystems, what tools can be applied. First, design processes in microtechnology are presented, which depict the necessity of bringing knowledge from later product life cycle stages to the early ones. For this front loading process design rules as a methodological means of support are proposed. Further on that paper presents two tools that are based on design rules, which support the designer. The first one, wikis, open content management systems represent knowledge from later stages for design engineers. The same design rules on a formal level can be implemented into the second proposed tool, a knowledge-based engineering system.

The article is a set of loosely related plots concentrated on problems of design process. Some aspects of design process and its interpretation were selected to present shortage of information in present state of theory of architectural design. The relationship between holistic and specialized approach, problem of continuity and discontinuity of design process, alleged choice of methods and contrasting deductive against inductive working, rational against intuitional, finally problem of timeline and its influence on design -these are issues of the following considerations being incentive for continuation of discourse about key aspect of architectural job - design process.

Opis:: W obliczu narastających problemów cywilizacyjnych będących wynikiem m.in. żywiołowej urbanizacji z udziałem koszto- i energochłonnej architektury (fast-form architecture) pojawia się potrzeba wprowadzenia alternatywnych metod projektowania środowiska zamieszkiwania człowieka. Pierwszym etapem jest wprowadzenie nowego modelu nauczania architektury. Dotychczasowy model preferuje rozwój wyłącznie wyobraźni formalnej oraz podporządkowanych jej umiejętności graficznych i technicznych przy jednoczesnym pominięciu umiejętności miękkich. Skutkuje on wprowadzaniem na rynek architektów, projektujących budynki, których relacje z użytkownikiem i miejscem można określić jako jednowartościowe. Przypisanie dominującego znaczenia niezwiązanej z miejscem formie architektonicznej, oznacza zastąpienie autentycznego jej doświadczania wszystkimi zmysłami chwilową ekscytacją. Alternatywny model kształcenia powinien być ukierunkowany na trzy aspekty: projektowanie architektury haptycznej, rozwój wyobraźni sytuacyjnej i kontekstualne rozwiązywanie problemów (projektowanie miejsc, a nie budynków). W tym modelu istotną funkcję pełnią warsztaty, których program i przebieg jest pozwala na zetknięcie się uczestników z materią architektury: miejscem, potrzebami użytkujących/zamieszkujących je ludzi oraz materiałem i techniką.
In the face of the growing problems of civilization resulting, among others, from spontaneous urbanization with the participation of cost-intensive and energy-consuming architecture (fast-form architecture), there is a need to introduce alternative methods of designing the environment of human habitation. The first step is to introduce a new architecture teaching model. The current model prefers to develop only the formal imagination and the graphic and technical skills subordinated to it, with the simultaneous omission of soft skills. It results in introducing architects to the market, designing buildings whose relations with the user and the place can be described as single-valued. Assigning the dominant meaning to an architectural form that is not related to the place means to replace the authentic experience of it with all the senses with a momentary excitement. The alternative model of education should focus on three aspects: designing haptic architecture, developing situational imagination and contextual problem solving (designing places, not buildings). In this model, an important function is played by workshops, the program and course of which allow the participants to come into contact with the matter of architecture: the place, the needs of the people who use / live in them, as well as the material and technique.
