Opis:
Microwave frequency detectors enable immediate determination of an unknown microwave signal frequency. Measurement is possible if the output characteristic of a frequency detector is unequivocal in a selected band of operation. The paper presents a method for obtaining unequivocal output characteristics for a given band of frequency detector operation.

Opis:
The SIDDHARTA-2 collaboration has developed a novel X-ray detection system based on cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT, CdZnTe), marking the first application of this technology at the DAΦNE electron-positron collider at INFN-LNF. This work aims to demonstrate the stability of the detectors’ performance in terms of linearity and resolution over short and long periods, thereby establishing their suitability for precise spectroscopic measurements within a collider environment. A reference calibration spectrum is presented in association with findings from assessments of linearity and resolution stability. Additionally, this study introduces a validated model of the response function of the detector. The relative deviations from the nominal values for the source transitions, obtained by fitting the entire spectrum with a background function and the previously introduced response function, are reported. Finally, a comparison of the calibration performance with and without beams circulating in the collider’s rings is presented. These promising results pave the way for applying CZT detectors in kaonic atom studies and, more generally, in particle and nuclear physics spectroscopy.

Opis:
The paper presents a study of the performance of some selected UV detectors. Unlike many similar works, the obtained data refer to commercial photodiodes (not only to detector materials). The main task of the research was to determine the influence of the operating temperature and annealing on the detector spectral responsiveness. A comparison of the results obtained for the photodiodes made of GaN and SiC was also performed. Although both kinds of detectors can work at high temperatures for a long time, some modification of their properties was observed. However, for GaN and SiC photodiodes, this modification has a substantially different nature. It is very important for some applications, e.g. fire alarms and a military equipment.

Przedstawione zostały charakterystyki dopasowania oraz przebiegi napięć wyjściowych detektorów fazoczułych z pierścieniem diodowym. Modele detektorów zostały wykonane w Zakładzie Mikrofal.
Investigation results of a model phase detector based on a diode ring are described in the paper. The two different phase detectors were investigated. In the first system, matching was obtained due to adequate power of the signal delivered into detector input. The second system was equipped with an additional attenuation circuit. Results of comparision of characteristics for both systems are shown.

Opis:
The energy and mass measurements of jets are crucial tasks for the Large Hadron Collider experiments. This paper presents a new calibration method to simultaneously calibrate these quantities for large-radius jets measured with the ATLAS detector using a deep neural network (DNN). To address the specificities of the calibration problem, special loss functions and training procedures are employed, and a complex network architecture, which includes feature annotation and residual connection layers, is used. The DNN-based calibration is compared to the standard numerical approach in an extensive series of tests. The DNN approach is found to perform significantly better in almost all of the tests and over most of the relevant kinematic phase space. In particular, it consistently improves the energy and mass resolutions, with a 30% better energy resolution obtained for transverse momenta $p_{T}$ > 500 GeV.

Opis:
Flying insects are valuable animal models for elucidating computational processes underlying visual motion detection. For example, optical flow analysis by wide-field motion processing neurons in the insect visual system has been investigated from both behavioral and physiological perspectives [1]. This has resulted in useful computational models with diverse applications [2,3]. In addition, some insects must also extract the movement of their prey or conspecifics from their environment. Such insects have the ability to detect and interact with small moving targets, even amidst a swarm of others [4,5]. We use electrophysiological techniques to record from small target motion detector (STMD) neurons in the insect brain that are likely to subserve these behaviors. Inspired by such recordings, we previously proposed an ‘elementary’ small target motion detector (ESTMD) model that accounts for the spatial and temporal tuning of such neurons and even their ability to discriminate targets against cluttered surrounds [6-8]. However, other properties such as direction selectivity [9] and response facilitation for objects moving on extended trajectories [10] are not accounted for by this model. We therefore propose here two model variants that cascade an ESTMD model with a traditional motion detection model algorithm, the Hassenstein Reichardt ‘elementary motion detector’ (EMD) [11]. We show that these elaborations maintain the principal attributes of ESTMDs (i.e. spatiotemporal tuning and background clutter rejection) while also capturing the direction selectivity observed in some STMD neurons. By encapsulating the properties of biological STMD neurons we aim to develop computational models that can simulate the remarkable capabilities of insects in target discrimination and pursuit for applications in robotics and artificial vision systems.

Opis:
W artykule zaprezentowano rozważania analityczne mające na celu opracowanie modelu transmitancyjnego detektora piroelektrycznego. Model ten zaimplementowano w środowisku MATLAB-Simulink w celu realizacji badań symulacyjnych tego detektora. Pokazano kilka przykładowych wyników badań odpowiedzi napięciowej na pobudzenia promieniowaniem o różnych kształtach przebiegu czasowego.
In the paper analytical considerations aiming at obtaining the Laplace transfer function model of an uncoated (front surface electrode is a thin layer of metal) pyroelectric detector are presented. The pyroelectric detector model was implemented in MATLAB-Simulink environment for simulation studies. The exemplary simulation was performed for the prototype of a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) pyroelectric detector designed and constructed by the authors. Construction, physical parameters and some results of the experimental studies performed with this detector are presented, among others, in [3,4]. Exemplary results of less known simulations illustrating the influence of such parameters as the thermal time constant on the detector voltage responsivity are given. The possibility of simulation study on a basis of time dependences of the voltage pyroelectric response to modulated radiation with different shapes is indicated. The simulation results show that the voltage responsivity of the pyroelectric detector exposed to rectangular modulated radiation of low frequency is higher than that to sinusoidal and trapezoidal modulated radiation. This type of simulation investigations gives important information about the properties of the pyroelectric detector in such applications as remote temperature measurements, monitoring of radiation power or thermovision measurements.
