Opis:
In the first half of the twentieth century, Manchuria occupied a special place in the Chinese scenery. More importantly, the land distinguished itself with a conflict-free multiculturalism. Further, it was a territory lying immediately in the borderland between Slavic and Chinese spheres of influence with all ensuing consequences. Poles and Ukrainians constituted an important part of this cultural melting pot, involving a fusion of nationalities and ethnicities. Undoubtedly, Ukrainians as well as Poles in Northeastern China contributed greatly to the cultural enrichment of the inhabited area. Regrettably, the sociocultural activities of numerous Polish and Ukrainian communities scattered across the region came to a sudden halt with the Soviet invasion of Manchuria in August 1945. Therefore, this text is devoted primarily to the study of Polish and Ukrainian settlement in Manchuria.

Opis:
In the article, I present an analysis of two Tết (Lunar New Year) festivals organised by the Vietnamese living in Poland. The events, prepared by different organisations – a local branch of the Association of Vietnamese in Poland, an official organisation cooperating with the authorities of Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and pro-democratic activists – provide an insight into the community’s internal diversity. The analysis indicates that the political involvement of the organising parties influences their choice of particular style of presentation, with a profound impact on the attractiveness of the festival for the two important segments of audience: the Vietnamese youth brought up in Poland and the Polish spectators. The paper is based on fieldwork research which the author has been conducting among the Vietnamese community in Poland for many years.

Opis:
This article describes and analyses Polish diaspora policy changes in the years 2011–2015. Two decades after the rebirth of the Polonia policy in 1989, it was completely rebuilt. Emphasising values and Poland’s obligations towards the diaspora was replaced by paying more attention to the interests and profitability of this policy. The authors demonstrate how New Public Management (NPM) concepts influenced this shift. Analysis of two different sources – documents programming Polish diaspora policy and interviews with experts and persons designing the Polonia policy – confirmed that NPM principles influenced Polish diaspora policy on five dimensions: organisational restructuring, management instruments, budgetary reforms, participation, marketisation/privatisation.

The first chapter of the master's thesis focuses on the Arab immigration to Brazil and its reasons, the way it was developing, the beginning of their lives in new homeland and explains why they have been known by several names. Indirect influence of Arabs on Brazil through the colonization which resulted from eight ages arabic domination on Iberian Peninsula and connected with that the influence of arabic language in to Portuguese language. Arabic themes in Brazil's architecture. The third chapter concentrates on economic activities of Arabs in Brazil. Explains how the have become industrialists from peddlers. Reluctance of brazilian elites towards them, which was caused due to their commercial activates. The raise of their importance in brazilian society.The establishment of Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce and also focuses on three the most influential families in arab community in Brazil.The fourth describes arabs upgrade in social ladder in Brazil through education, how they found their place liberal professionals, prejudices they had to face, and problem they had to deal with because of strong competition inliberal professionals.The fifth focuses on the Arabs integration with Brazilian society through marriages with natives and their presence in public sphere.The sixth concentrates on popularizing arab culture in Brazil.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to analyze state-diaspora relations, using Montenegro as an example. The literature on the topic shows a visible lack of thorough studies of this phenomenon. Montenegro is an interesting case, since the number of people living in diasporas is comparable to the total population of the state. The article is divided into four parts. Part one presents theoretical consideration of the diaspora, as well as the state-diaspora relations. Part two features a brief characterization of the diasporas in Montenegro, its history and migration directions. Part three is an analysis of relations between Montenegro and the diaspora. Particular attention is given to the process of institutionalization of these relations. The article ends with conclusions.
Celem artykułu jest dokonanie analizy relacji państwo-diaspora na przykładzie Czarnogóry. W literaturze przedmiotu zauważalny jest brak dogłębnych badań tego zjawiska. Czarnogóra stanowi interesujący przypadek ze względu fakt, że liczba osób żyjących w diasporach jest porównywalna do liczby mieszkańców tego państwa. Artykuł składa się z czterech części. Pierwsza z nich stanowi przedstawienie rozważań teoretycznych na temat diaspor, ale także relacji państwo-diaspora. W kolejnej została pokrótce scharakteryzowana czarnogórska diaspora - jej historia, liczebność oraz kierunki emigracji. Trzecia część stanowi analizę kształtowanych przez Czarnogórę relacji z diasporą. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na proces instytucjonalizacji owych stosunków. Artykuł kończy podsumowanie.

Opis:
The paper aims at presenting the conclusions of research encompassing: an analysis of the social participation of Poles living abroad alongside with a diagnosis of crucial determinants of that involvement, a diagnosis of their opinions concerning the functioning of Polish diaspora organisations, and the identifi cation of Poles’ readiness to become involved in such organisations. The analysis is based on empirical data collected during an internet survey among Poles living in 11 Western European countries and the USA and a qualitative study conducted among Polish diaspora elites in those countries. Results of the empirical research show that the surveyed Poles living abroad were characterised by: relatively low knowledge of Polish diaspora organisations, a low level of involvement in Polish diaspora organisations, and a low level of readiness for future involvement in such organisations. Moreover, the research proved low levels of the survey participants’ general involvement in three distinct aspects of social life: political, cultural and civil. The article also presents the main determinants of the diagnosed social phenomena.

Showing the specific and way of functioning of Polish community in Norway is a matter worth of attention, because so far we do not have on the Polish ground many materials that describe this phenomenon. If they are available, in most cases they are out of date and inadequate in comparison to the present state. This dissertation’s author cared for a thorough and minute description of the Polish community living in Norway in order to obtain up-to-date information.Theoretical part was dedicated to put the matter of definitions in order. Answers for questions were looked for: what migration is and what are its’ classifications? What are characteristic features of a diaspora? Why can the term Polish community be understood in different ways? Is there one consistent theory of migration? Current state of knowledge considering emigration was put to a try by making a synthesis and critical look on the matter.The practical part is composed of 4 parts, each of them was dedicated to different issues. The dissertation’s author focused on showing Polish-Norwegian common history before World War II, middle war period and times after World War II. Characteristic features of modern emigration of Poles to Norway and main motives of coming to the kingdom will be presented. Modern situation will be compared to the past times. Picture of modern Pole community in Norway: its’ deployment and functioning was presented. The results of questionnaires were used to determine Poles relations towards learning Norwegian language and114Norwegians themselves. Organizations and events, which contribute to popularization of Polish culture were described.Dissertation is focused also on aspect of education. This part includes: the history of teaching mother languages, analysis of motivation, materials and students who wants to learn Polish on academic level. Polska Szkoła Sobotnia im. Bł. Jana Pawła II w Oslo, University of Oslo and Folkeuniversitetet Øst were mainly described.Poles in Norway are interesting topic also for scientists. Nowadays there are many Norwegian projects which are focused on this phenomenon. This is a proof Polish people have become a significant part of Norwegian society.
Ukazanie specyfiki i sposobu funkcjonowania Polonii norweskiej jest zagadnieniem wartym uwagi, gdyż jak dotąd na gruncie polskim nie dysponujemy dużą ilością materiałów, które opisywałyby to zjawisko. Autorce pracy zależało na gruntownym i szczegółowym opisie Polonii zamieszkującej tereny Norwegii w celu uzyskania jak najbardziej aktualnych informacji. Praca składa się ze wstępu teoretycznego i czterech rozdziałów.W części teoretycznej uporządkowano kwestie definicyjne: czym jest migracja i jakie są jej klasyfikacje? Jakie są cechy charakterystyczne diaspory? Pierwszy rozdział pracy ma wymiar historyczny. Ukazuje wspólną historię Polski i Norwegii z okresu przed II wojną światową, dwudziestolecia międzywojennego i czasów po II wojnie. Przedstawiono w nim charakterystykę współczesnej emigracji Polaków do Norwegii, główne motywy przyjazdu do Królestwa. Sytuacja współczesna zostanie porównana do czasów przeszłych.Drugi rozdział dotyczy stricte opisu Polonii norweskiej: jej rozmieszczenia, funkcjonowania. Wyniki ankiet posłużą do określenia stosunku Polaków do nauki języka norweskiego i do samych Norwegów. Opisano organizacje i wydarzenia, które przyczyniają się do promowania i popularyzowania kultury polskiej.Trzeci rozdział jest poświęcony edukacji i kształceniu. Ukazano historię nauczania języków ojczystych w Norwegii, przedstawiono organizacje nauczania języka polskiego jako ojczystego i rodzaje zajęć. Szkolnictwo Polonijne w Królestwie zostało scharakteryzowane pod wieloma aspektami, m.in.: profilu osób uczących, osób nauczanych, materiałów nauczania, motywacji. Opisano funkcjonowanie i specyfikę następujących placówek: Polskiej Szkoły Sobotniej im. Bł. Jana Pawła II w Oslo, Uniwersytetu w Oslo i Folkeuniversitetet Øst.W ostatnim rozdziale pracy przedstawiono sylwetki trójki Norwegów, zafascynowanych Polską, językiem i kulturą. Ich wrażenia i spostrzeżenia w ciekawy sposób pokazują, jak Polska jest postrzegana przez Norwegów.

The paper addresses aspects of the language of the Polish diaspora and of the standard language, as forms of language spoken by Poles living abroad. The standard language is/should be common for all Poles - used everywhere and by everyone in the same way. The Polish diaspora language, on the other hand, appears only in specific territories and is used for communication in specific groups of Poles. It differs depending on the country where they settled and on the language it comes into contact with, as well as on the diversity of the emigrants, and also depending on the Polish they brought from their home country (either them themselves or their parents). Although the terms "Polonia" [Polish diaspora] and "język polonijny" [Polish diaspora language] are commonly used, one should be aware that the latter are actually numerous.
