Opis:
Introduction In this article, the effectiveness of two commercial metal artifact reduction algorithms, Siemens iMAR and GE MARS, in computed tomography (CT) imaging is evaluated. Metal artifacts, which arise primarily due to the presence of high atomic number metals in clinical imaging, significantly degrade image quality and impede accurate diagnostics.Material and methods The study compares monoenergetic and dual-energy CT reconstruction algorithms by examining their performance on phantom models, including a Gammex Tissue Characterization Phantom and a custom-made spine stabilization system phantom. Quantitative assessments, such as Hounsfield unit analysis were performed. Results The results show that the iterative reconstruction algorithm (iMAR) from Siemens offers superior artifact suppression and image clarity compared to GE's dual-energy algorithm (MARS), particularly in cases involving titanium implants. Quantitative assessments, such as Hounsfield unit measurements and visual image analysis, confirm that iMAR produces images with reduced artifacts and more consistent tissue characterization. Conclusions These findings suggest that the choice of artifact reduction algorithm has a profound impact on the diagnostic and planning accuracy of CT scans in patients with metal implants.

Rola User Experience w zarządzaniu wizją produktu cyfrowego w fazie „Product Discovery”
The role of User Experience in managing the vision of a digital product in the Product Discovery phase.
Autorzy:
Sroka-Knapik, Aleksandra
Opis:
In the master's thesis, issues related to the role of User Experience (UX) in the process of managing the vision of a digital product in the "Product Discovery" phase are discussed. The thesis is based on an analysis of scientific literature, industry articles, industry experience and the results of interviews conducted with experts. The main objective of the thesis is to verify the role that UX plays in shaping and improving the vision of a digital product in its early stages of development and to gain a better understanding of the Product Discovery process. The discussed topics are divided into three main categories: product vision management, Product Discovery characteristics, and User Experience methodology. A qualitative research method was chosen for the research chapter, involving in-depth individual interviews with experts and practicing specialists who frequently participate in Product Discovery phases. The analysis of the research findings presented in the thesis indicates that User Experience is a crucial factor influencing the success of digital products and an essential, fundamental element of Product Discovery. Effective product vision management in the Product Discovery phase requires considering the perspectives of users and the business, and this process represents a significant step toward creating more attractive, useful, and competitive digital products in the market.
Do opracowania rozdziału badawczego wybrano metodę jakościową, polegającą na przeprowadzeniu pogłębionego wywiadu indywidualnego z ekspertami i praktykującymi specjalistami, którzy często uczestniczącą w fazach Product Discovery.

Opis:
Dementia, most often associated with neurodegenerative diseases, affects millions of people worldwide, predominantly the elderly. Unfortunately, no treatment is still available. Therefore, there is an urgent need to address this situation. This review presents the state of the art of drug discovery and developments in targeting dementia. Several approaches are discussed, such as drug repurposing, the use of small molecules, and phosphodiesterase inhibitors. Furthermore, the review also provides insights into clinical trials of these molecules. Emphasis has been placed on small molecules and multi-target-directed ligands, as well as disease-modifying therapies. Finally, attention is drawn to the possibilities of applications of nanotechnology in managing dementia.

Opis:
The purpose of the study was to identify educational effects of a new learning method that integrates mobile-technology-based science learning with activity oriented discovery learning. The major finding of the study was that the mobile technology-based Science program enabled students to learn scientific knowledge through associated activities and creatively apply their knowledge to complete the mission of the learning. Also, the study found that the use of tablet PCs and SNS for scientific inquiry activities facilitated students to learn in fun ways, to collaborate with other students, and to share what they have learned with each other.

Opis:
Virtual organizations (VO) are geographically distributed groups of people sharing common goals and willingness to collaborate. One of the important roles of virtual organizations is to facilitate sharing resources related to the area of collaboration. This paper presents an approach to handling resources in Computational Intelligence and Machine Learning distributed over a large number of sites. Resources are first discovered in the internet, evaluated, and then shared among users. Reasoning and adaptation methods can then be applied to best fit resources into users’ needs without a long search process.

Opis:
The development of knowledge engineering and, within its framework, of data mining or knowledge mining from data should result in the characteristics or descriptions of objects, events, processes and/or rules governing them, which should satisfy certain quality criteria: credibility, accuracy, verifiability, topicality, mutual logical consistency, usefulness, etc. Choosing suitable mathematical models of knowledge mining from data ensures satisfying only some of the above criteria. This paper presents, also in the context of the aims of The Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA), more general aspects of knowledge mining and popularization, which require applying the rules that enable or facilitate controlling the quality of data.
