Opis:
The effect of initial frequency chirp is numerically investigated to obtain high-efficient supercontinuum radiation in photonic crystal fibers with two closely spaced zero-dispersion wavelengths. Our results show that the positive chirp can significantly improve the probability of energy transferred from the soliton to the dispersive wave. And with the increase of the chirp, the energy increases obviously. At the same time, the intensity of the dispersive wave is proportional to the chirp value. Especially, solitons will not appear when the chirp value exceeds 3.9. Therefore, choosing an appropriate positive chirp, we can regulate the energy of the dispersive wave and solitons in photonic crystal fibers.

Opis:
The paper describes a new approach to electromagnetic analysis of magnetized plasma using finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. An equivalent lumped circuit describing an FDTD cell filled with plasma is developed and applied in the analysis. Such a method is proved more effective than previously reported methods. The new approach is verified on a canonical example of known analytical solution.

We investigate the dependence of the [formula] dispersive estimates for one-dimensional radial Schrödinger operators on boundary conditions at 0. In contrast to the case of additive perturbations, we show that the change of a boundary condition at zero results in the change of the dispersive decay estimates if the angular momentum is positive, l ∈ (0,1/2). However, for nonpositive angular momenta, l ∈ (—1/2,0], the standard [formula] decay remains true for all self-adjoint realizations.

Opis:
The triggering of a “dirty bomb” generates a complex scenario, with enormous challenges for the responders due to initial misinformation and the urgency to act quickly yet effectively. Normally, the first 100 h are decisive for perceiving the risk in a more realistic dimension, but the support of methodologies that rely on computational simulations can be valuable when making key decisions. This work seeks to provide support for the early decision-making process by using a Gaussian model for the distribution of a quantity of Cs-137 spread by a radiological dispersive device (RDD). By sequentially joining two independent programs, HotSpot Health Physics codes and RESidual RADiation (RESRAD)-RDD family of codes, we came up with results that suggest a segmented approach to the potentially affected population. These results advocate that (a) the atmospheric stability conditions represented by the Pasquill–Gifford classes and (b) the population subgroups defi ned by radiation exposure conditions strongly influence the postdetonation radiological effects. These variables should be taken into account in the elaboration of flexible strategies that include many climatic conditions and to prioritize attention to different groups of public at risk. During the initial phases of such an event, it is believed that simulations using Gaussian models may be of value in anticipating the possible changes in key variables during the decision-making process. These variables may severely affect the effectiveness of the actions of responders and the general public’s safety.

Characteristic approach to the soliton resolution

Opis:
As a toy model for understanding the soliton resolution phenomenon we consider a characteristic initial boundary value problem for the 4d equivariant Yang–Mills equation outside a ball. Our main objective is to illustrate the advantages of employing outgoing null (or asymptotically null) foliations in analyzing the relaxation processes due to the dispersal of energy by radiation. In particular, within this approach it is evident that the endstate of evolution must be non-radiative (meaning vanishing flux of energy at future null infinity). In our toy model such non-radiative configurations are given by a static solution (called the half-kink) plus an alternating chain of N decoupled kinks and antikinks. We show numerically that the configurations N = 0 (static half-kink) and N = 1 (superposition of the static half-kink and the antikink which recedes to infinity) appear as generic attractors and we determine a codimension-one borderline between their basins of attraction. The rates of convergence to these attractors are analyzed in detail.

Opis:
This paper concerns a viscoelastic Kirchhoff-type equation with the dispersive term, internal damping, and logarithmic nonlinearity. We prove the local existence of a weak solution via a modified lemma of contraction of the Banach fixed-point theorem. Although the uniqueness of a weak solution is still an open problem, we proved uniqueness locally for specifically suitable exponents. Furthermore, we established a result for local existence without guaranteeing uniqueness, stating a contraction lemma.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of geochemical analysis performed for the more-than-10-m-long core of sediments derived from Lake Nowowarpieńskie. Contrary to what its geographical name would suggest, it is in fact a peripheral bay  of the Szczecin Lagoon (NW Poland). A characteristic feature of the sedimentary cover of this water body is the several-metre-thick layer of lacustrine chalk, which is unique in the lithology of the sediments of today's Szczecin Lagoon. This sediment has been analysed using atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging. The chalk sediment from Lake Nowowarpieńskie is of chemical origin, bearing no fragments of vascular plants, but only traces of C-org in the form of small plant remains. The analysis of individual crystals using the EDS method also show Ca contents of over 99%. SEM images reveal that the sediment is characterised by a loose, disordered pack-ing of individual crystals, often combined to form aggregates with a tabular structure. The individual calcite grains are usually a few micrometres in size, while developed ones are mostly hypidiomorphic and show signs of corrosion. The sedimentation of the lacustrine chalk indicates that the post-glacial natural development of this part of what today constitutes Szczecin Lagoon differed from that of the rest of the lagoon. This sediment was deposited in a shallow but fertile isolated lake. The full profile of sediments from Lake Nowowarpieńskie reveals its distinct bipartite character, indicating two main stages of its evolution: carbonate and post-carbonate. In the first, the water body showed similarities to the neighbouring lakes of the Wkrzańska Plain. Its evolution was driven by climatic factors. The second stage was initiated by a palaeohydrological factor – Littorina transgression, which resulted in the lake being included into the hydrological system of the Szczecin Lagoon.

Opis:
Applicability of the theories describing the discharge in thin-film insulators under open-circuit conditions for dispersive hopping systems is the subject of this paper. It is shown by means of computer simulation that the drift mobility obtained from application of the theories for such systems is underestimated. The computer simulation was carried out for a thin film system in which the charge transport is dominated by hopping of charge carriers among localized states in a narrow band at the Fermi level. The way of interpretation of the discharge under opencircuit conditions in such systems is suggested. The simulation results have also been applied for interpretation of the open-circuit discharge in thin diamond-like carbon films.
Otrzymane wyniki zastosowano do reinterpretacji wyników badań ruchliwości w warstwach DLC.

Opis:
α-CL-20 polymorphic impurity in ε-CL-20 studies have been carried out using Dispersive Raman Spectroscopy. ε-, β-, α- and γ-CL-20 polymorphs were produced using crystallization methods with sample recovery from the solution being >90%, and chemical purity of about 99%. The polymorphs prepared were characterized using Dispersive Raman Spectroscopy over the Raman shift region of 100-3500 cm-1 using a 514 nm argon ion laser. The experimental studies were supported by ab initio computations performed at B3LYP level using a 6-31+G** basis set. The computed vibrational frequencies of the CL-20 conformers correspond to the ε, β and α or γ-CL-20 polymorphs when compared with the observed frequencies. α-CL-20 shows a distinct feature at 280 cm-1 as compared with those of the ε-CL-20 polymorph. Using Dispersive Raman Spectroscopy, a linear relationship was demonstrated for the absolute peak height and absolute peak area ratio of α-CL-20 versus the weight percent of α-CL-20. This method enables a detection limit of this polymorphic impurity down to 2 wt%.
