Opis:: Cases of heavy traffic congestion (commonly referred to as traffic jams) have negative influences on the economy, public health, and social life. This makes it important to assist drivers in these situations with Internet of Things (IoT) systems. The aim of this article is to present a low-cost device that supports driving in traffic jams. The system, which is based on data from a laser sensor with a range of up to 40 m, controls the distances to vehicles in front of and behind a moving car. Through audio and video signals, it warns the driver whether the vehicle in front of or behind the equipped vehicle is too close. This allows the driver to control the distance and avoid minor collisions.

Opis:: The article presents a calibration method for a measuring circuit with a laser triangulation distance sensor. The authors describe factors influencing the accuracy of measurement using a laser triangulation sensor. The computer software supporting calibration procedure was developed, and the control-measuring software of the penetrometer was modified. The method is the result of the process of improvement of the penetrometer. The application of the developed penetrometer calibration method helps to achieve assumed measuring accuracy of ±2 units of penetration.
W artykule przedstawiono metodę kalibracji toru pomiarowego z laserowym triangulacyjnym czujnikiem odległości. Omówiono czynniki wpływające na dokładność pomiaru za pomocą triangulacyjnego czujnika laserowego. Opracowano oprogramowanie komputerowe wspomagające procedurę kalibracji oraz zmodyfikowano oprogramowanie pomiarowo-sterujące penetrometru. Metoda jest wynikiem procesu doskonalenia penetrometru. W wyniku aplikacji opracowanej metody kalibracji penetrometru uzyskano zakładaną dokładność pomiaru ±2 jednostki penetracji.

Opis:: The growing realization of the benefits to individual students and to state economies, of providing science learners with opportunities to expand their knowledge, skills and experience of knowledge-based technological design has led to seeking instructional strategies to facilitate the transition from traditional school settings to project based learning environments. This paper refers to engaging high school physics and computer-science majors in challenging design projects which seek to activate and implement the often inert formal content knowledge within the context of designing and constructing systems dealing with real world engineering challenges in robotics and electro-optics. In this paper we suggest that visualization of the problem space and guided exploration of its spatial relationships can promote the elicitation of relevant formal knowledge and lead to creative solution design. These methods are described in the context of designing and programming robot navigation and in the context of developing remote distance sensors.

Opis:: W artykule przedstawiono problematykę stosowania popularnego wideorejestratora Videorapid 2A i zaproponowano autorskie rozwiązanie, które eliminuje konieczność zachowania stałej odległości między pojazdami w trakcie dokonywania pomiaru prędkości. Wykorzystanie takiego rozwiązania przez pojazdy policyjne wyeliminowałoby konieczność utrzymania stałej odległości między pojazdami, ponieważ prędkość pojazdu kontrolowanego może zostać obliczona nawet przy zmianie odległości między pojazdami. Elektroniczno-informatyczne rozwiązanie, będące nowoczesnym wideorejestratorem jazdy wykorzystującym laserowy czujnik odległości dodatkowo rozpoznaje numer rejestracyjny pojazdu, co pozwala na jego automatyczne sprawdzenie, np. w CEPiK.
The article presents the issue of using a popular driving video recorder Videorapid 2a and proposes an original solution which eliminates the need for keeping the same distance between both vehicles the speed of a vehicle is being measured. The use of such solution by police vehicles would eliminate the need for keeping a constant distance between vehicles, because the speed of the controlled vehicle can still be calculated even when the distance between vehicles is changed. The electronic and IT solution, which is a modern driving video recorder that uses a laser distance sensor, additionally recognizes the vehicle's registration number, which allows its automatic check in, for instance, Central Register of Vehicles and Drivers.

Opis:: A new method for passive ranging using image size measurements from one sensor has been presented. The method relies on pixel filtration with histogram-based thresholding, followed by intensity and gradient magnitude analysis. Its efficiency and robustness were assessed in real infrared surveillance sequences, and it has proved to lead to better results than non-filtering techniques. The object distance estimation mean relative error does not exceed 3%, which implies that the suggested method enables precise range estimation based on object size measurements. To maximize the benefits of the suggested method, Kalman filter has been included in the algorithm in order to overcome fluctuations of the estimated object size.

Opis:: ToF (Time of Flight) sensors have been gaining popularity in recent times as a cheap and accurate way to take distance measurements. They may prove to be a key component of obstacle detection systems in the near future. This paper presents a stepper motor system with two measurement modules containing ToF sensors. The results of distance measurements made with these modules relative to a flat surface for different sensor modes are presented. Standard deviations were determined for the measurement results and a polynomial fitting was performed using the linear least squares method. The results were used to select the sensor for further work in terms of its use in an obstacle detection system.
Czujniki ToF w ostatnich czasach zdobywają popularność jako tani i dokładny sposób na dokonanie pomiarów odległości. W niedalekiej przyszłości mogą okazać się kluczowym komponentem systemów detekcji przeszkód. W ramach niniejszego artykułu przedstawiono układ z silnikiem krokowym na którym zainstalowano dwa moduły pomiarowe zawierające czujniki ToF. Zaprezentowano wyniki pomiarów odległości przeprowadzonych przy użyciu tych modułów względem płaskiej powierzchni dla różnych trybów działania czujników. Dla wyników pomiarów wyznaczono odchylenia standardowe oraz dokonano dopasowania wielomianu za pomocą liniowej metody najmniejszych kwadratów. Wyniki posłużyły do doboru czujnika do dalszych prac pod kątem jego wykorzystania w systemie detekcji przeszkód.
