Opis:
Improving the performance of Dynamic Positioning System in such applications as station keeping, position mooring and slow speed references tracking requires improving the position and heading control precision. These goals can be achieved through the improvement of the ship control system. Fractional-order calculus is a very useful tool which extends classical, integer-order calculus and is used in contemporary modeling and control applications. Fractional-order PI?D? controller, based on the added flexibility of fractional-order operators, are capable of superior performance compared to their integer-order counterparts. This paper presents the fractional order PI?D? controller designed to maintain the ship position and heading and the results were compared with classical integer order PID controller.

Opis:
The article presents factors influencing decision making by Dynamic Positioning Operator (DPO) and statistics of the DPOs behaviour in an emergency situation. Considering that supply operation is performed by a DP vessel at a distance comparable to its width of the hull to the installation, unit, or another vessel, the thruster failure may lead to a rapidly developing incident such as collision, pollution, or human injuries. Based on the IMO guidelines on formal safety assessment authors suggested a risk model of platform supply operation in dynamic positioning mode. It is shown that different approaches shall be applied for rule-making and active decision support applications. While rulemaking can be mainly based on retrospective incident-based data, decision support shall be developed on the basis of the dynamic state of the system. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the nature of the human element in the specific operation to build up proper technological and organizational barriers to prevent the forthcoming critical error.

Opis:
The problem of synthesis a dynamic positioning system for low frequency model of surface vessel was considered in this paper. The recursive vectorial backstepping control design was used to keep a fixed position and heading in presence of wave disturbances. The passive observer was introduced to smooth the measurements and to estimate the velocities needed for the control algorithm. The computer simulation results were given to demonstrate the effectiveness of that combination of controller-observer system to compensate environmental disturbances.

Opis:
This paper presents an innovation methodology for quantity assessment the safety of dynamic positioning in locally confined area of technological work performance under nonlinear dynamic disturbances of environmental factors. The methodology is based on new integrated paradigm of prediction coordinated components interactions, which form dynamic positioning system. Proposed methodology implementation effect is based on the analysis of complex models that form the knowledge base. The comprehensive reserve of controllable thruster’s reactions was adopted as quantitative characteristic of dynamic positioning safety.

Opis:
Vessels conducting dynamic positioning (DP) operations are usually equipped with thruster configurations that enable generation of resultant force and moment in any direction. These configurations are deliberately redundant in order to reduce the consequences of thruster failures and increase the safety. On such vessels a thrust allocation system must be used to distribute the control actions determined by the DP controller among the thrusters. The optimal allocation of thrusters’ settings in DP systems is a problem that can be solved by several convex optimization methods depending on criteria and constraints used. The paper presents linear programming (LP) and quadratic programming (QP) methods adopted in DP control model which is being developed in Maritime University of Szczecin for ship simulation purposes.
Statki pozycjonowane dynamicznie (DP) mają konfiguracje pędników umożliwiające wytwarzanie wypadkowej siły i momentu w dowolnym kierunku. W artykule przedstawiono metody programowania liniowego (LP) i kwadratowego (QP) zastosowane w modelu sterowania DP w symulatorach nawigacyjno-manewrowych Akademii Morskiej w Szczecinie.

Opis:
In this work there is presented an analysis of impact of ship model parameters on changes of control quality index in a ship dynamic positioning system designed with the use of a backstepping adaptive controller. Assessment of the impact of ship model parameters was performed on the basis of Pareto-Lorentz curves and ABC method in order to determine sets of the parameters which have either crucial, moderate or low impact on objective function. Simulation investigations were carried out with taking into account integral control quality indices.

Opis:
The dynamical positioning system is a complex control consisting of a number of components, including: filters, observers, controllers, and propeller allocation systems. The design and preliminary analysis of operational quality of system operation are usually done based on numerical simulations performed with the aid of the mathematical model of the ship. The article presents a concept of the dynamic positioning system applied to steering the training ship Blue Lady used for training captains in the ship handling research and training centre owned by the Foundation for Safety of Navigation and Environment Protection in Ilawa/Kamionka. The simulation tests performed in the numerical environment of Matlab/Simulink have proved the usability of the designed system for steering a ship at low speed.

Opis:
The article presents an efficient method of optimal thrust allocation over the actuators in a dynamically positioned ship, according to the DNV-ST-0111 standard, Level 1. The optimisation task is approximated to a convex problem with linear constraints and mathematically formulated as quadratic programming. The case study is being used to illustrate the use of the proposed approach in assessing the DP capability of a rescue ship. The quadratic programmingbased approach applied for dynamic positioning capability assessment allows for fast calculations to qualitatively compare different ship designs. In comparison with the DNV tool, it gives 100% successful validation for a ship with azimuth thrusters and a pessimistic solution for a ship equipped with propellers with rudders. Therefore, it can be safely applied at an early design stage.

Opis:
This article deals with a very important problem, i.e. with the safety of shuttle tankers at sea. The author presents systems and mechanisms observed at these types of vessels which have great influence on safety both during loading and discharging operations, as well as at sea. A dynamic positioning system was introduced together with its subsystems and their role in increasing safety. Another issue discussed in this article is the problem of oil pollution during cargo handling operations and sea pollution resulting from accidents of tankers. This article also covers some problems connected with training of crew of these specialized vessels, operating the instruments and equipment installed on them and also with the maritime infrastructure. Some problems connected with navigation observed in some regions of the world were also discussed here. Transport of oil close to the coast is a branch of oil transportation in full swing. Each even the minor failure results in serious consequences for people, for vessels and for the environment. Constant development of new technologies used on shuttle tankers and constructing new vessels equipped with the most modern technical solutions aims at minimizing the risk of situations threatening people's life, situations dangerous for the vessel and the marine environment.

Opis:
This paper presents the designs of two observers, which are: the extended Kalman filter and the nonlinear passive observer. Based on the measured values of ship position and heading, the observers estimate the surge, sway and yaw velocities of the ship motion. The observers make use of the simplified nonlinear mathematical model of ship motion in which the neglected ship dynamics and disturbances are modelled using bias. The designed observers firstly have been simulated on a computer model where their parameters were calibrated, and then were implemented on the physical model of the training ship “Blue Lady” in the ship handling centre in Ilawa-Kamionka. The comparative analysis was done with respect to the estimated variables describing the ship motion in three directions: surge, sway and yaw.
