Opis:
In this study, from the perspective of Hanfu elements, the evolution and innovative design of cloud shoulder adornments in the Ming and Qing dynasties were systematically examined. Through methods such as literature research, data collection, and practical research, the origins, development, and their association with the historical and cultural context were revealed. The study found that the cloud shoulder adornments in the Ming and Qing dynasties underwent a process of evolution from simplicity to complexity and from uniformity to diversity in terms of design and patterns. These changes reflected the shifting aesthetic concepts of the time and the pursuit of clothing aesthetics, enriching the design elements and aesthetic connotations of cloud shoulder adornments. The findings of this research provide inspiration for modern designers to create Hanfu works with distinctive characteristics and individuality. The significance of this study lies in uncovering the evolutionary process and design features of cloud shoulder adornments in the Ming and Qing dynasties, offering important references and inspirations for related research and creative endeavors. By integrating traditional elements with modern design concepts, we can promote the inheritance and development of Chinese traditional culture, as well as the dissemination and application of Hanfu in contemporary times. This holds positive implications for the revival of Hanfu culture and the preservation of traditional heritage.

A new house for the god in Tenkasi : divine dreams and kings in 15th–16th-century Pāṇṭiya inscriptions and Sanskrit courtly production
Autorzy:
Pierdominici Leao, David
Opis:
This paper is devoted to a parallel study of the 15th-century Tamil inscriptions from the Kāśīviśvanātha temple in Tenkasi (Tamil Nadu), describing the circumstances and building phases of this shrine, together with a modified retelling of the same episode by a 16th-century mahākāvya, the Pāṇḍyakulodaya. The comparative study of these passages aims to highlight significant changes in the traditional institution of Indian royal patronage. It will also enable considerations on the revolutionary transition in the description of the Pāṇṭiya kingship in the 16th century, marked by the rise of a new ideological idiom expressed by the Pāṇḍyakulodaya.

Unfolding politics, merging into the sacred : liminality and transfiguring "Digvijayas" in the "Pāṇḍyakulodayamahākāvya"

Opis:
The paper discusses the possible applications of the concept of liminality in the realm of the classical Sanskrit literary production of South India, exemplified by the mahākāvyaPāṇḍyakulodaya (15th–16th centuries CE). Transcending from the ritual connotation as-cribed to the anthropological category since van Gennep’s theories, the modern applica-tion of liminality to broader historical and cultural changes will be taken into account. The close study of selected stanzas from this epic poem will show how the description of a mil-itary campaign seems to be permeated by liminal elements, which also appear in the por-trayal of royal power. The new conceptualisation of kingship in the Pāṇḍyakulodaya, in-terpreted as the new institutional paradigm after the transitional period investing the Pāṇḍya dynasty and its weakened political influence, will be analysed in the frame of the general categorisation of cultural reaction.

A newly discovered necropolis on the Upper Terrace of the Temple of Hatshepsut was in use from the Twenty-second until the beginning of the Twenty-sixth Dynasty. The archaeological material coming from the backfill of the tombs proved to be mixed but datable. Interesting observations concern the structure and architecture of the tombs and their substructure.

Opis:
The text catalogues the best preserved pieces of coffins and cartonnages excavated from the burials made on the Third Terrace of the Temple of Hatsheput in the Third Intermediate Period when the ruins were used as a burial ground for noblemen, in particular the family of Vizier Padiamunet. Hundreds of fragments were found since the 1930s (not all have survived and the fragmentation and mixing of the finds make it a very difficult material to study). On typological and epigraphic grounds the remains were assigned to the third part of the Twenty-second and the larger part of the Twenty-fifth Dynasties.

The paper analyses all early Severan coinage commemorating the ideas of concord (concordia) in the state, in particular the concepts of marital concord (concordia felix), perpetual concord (perpetua concordia) and eternal concord (concordia aeterna ), against the backdrop of the simultaneously propagated idea of aeternitas Imperii as well as the ideology and policy of succession of the ruling house.

Opis:
The 2017 season of archaeological excavation at the site of Tell el-Retaba in the Nile Delta in Egypt led to several interesting discoveries. Two of these concerned burials: a Hyksos tomb from the Second Intermediate Period, robbed but with some remains of the original furnishings, and pit burials from the early Eighteenth Dynasty, one of which was richly endowed with silver jewelry. Meriting note is the discovery of moats belonging to the defenses of the Nineteenth Dynasty fortress. Exploration of a crowded Third Intermediate Period settlement was continued.
