Opis:
Super Alloys, commonly used in safety-critical aerospace components, regularly impose problems when machined in drilling or milling processes, resulting in surface damages that facilitate cracks. Residual stresses are often induced to prevent crack mitigation, but national aviation agencies set high quality standards on them. Current methods are either destructive or impose safety risks for the employees. Eddy current methods, however, are fast and cheap non-destructive methods to receive information on metallic surfaces. They rely on electro-magnetic properties of the material. The influence of residual stresses on both permeability and conductivity are not yet fully understood. This article presents a simple model that describes the correlation between residual stresses and those aspects. At first, the dependency of permeability and conductivity on various metallurgical properties, such as grain size or orientation, is deduced. In a second step, the influence of residual stresses on these properties is shown. A third step combines both steps into a coherent and holistic model to describe the influence of residual stresses on the electro-magnetic properties of Super Alloys. This model will help establishing Eddy Current Testing in the product monitoring in the aerospace industry.

Opis:
This article deals with the possibility for increasing of the informational value of a response signal using tilt-shift eddy current probe. Numerical simulations based on the FEM method using the OPERA 3D software as well as gained experimental results are presented. The simulated cracks are evaluated at the selected eddy current probe tilts and shifts with respect to conductive plate to obtain additional data needed for its evaluation and localization. Obtained simulation results are compared and discussed with the experimental results.

Opis:
Casting is the manufacturing process of pouring the hot liquiduos state metal in to the mold cavity and then allowed it to solidify to obtain the final casting. There are many defects are found in the casting components during the inspection. Some defects are tolerated while others are required to repair. Otherwise the casting component is to be eliminated due to the poor quality level. The aim of the non-destructive inspection is to determine, the flaws, discontinuities on the material, and characteristics of the material. Based on the results by non-destructive evaluation the personnel take the decision on the material object is to be accepted or not as per the criteria. In this paper the hardness attribute of the case hardened AISI 4130 steel samples are studied using Vickers Hardness test. Then the hardness property is correlated with the Eddy Current Testing method. According to the acceptance criterion the suitability of the material is analyzed for the corresponding application or not. In this paper Eddy Current Testing response is analyzed for the AISI 4130 samples to determine the mechanical properties of the material. The main objective of the paper is to investigate the effect of the hardness property of the casting material during various case depth obtained via case hardening process. This technique is effective and best practice for the heat treatment shop floors. By this technique the results are investigated based on the cracks and microstructure of the casting material.

In this paper we present the results of simulations of the Magnetic Induction Tomography (MIT) forward problem. Two complementary calculation techniques have been implemented and coupled, namely: the finite element method (applied in commercial software Comsol Multiphysics) and the second, algebraic manipulations on basic relationships of electromagnetism in Matlab. The developed combination saves a lot of time and makes a better use of the available computer resources.

Opis:
Non-destructive testing (NDT) plays an important role in aircraft maintenance and repair processes, ensuring the structural integrity necessary for safe operation. The paper presents the design and evaluation of an animated, low-cost robotic NDT system tailored for inspecting composite bonding agents. The system integrates commercially available components, including a three-degree-of-freedom robotic arm and a Raspberry Pi 4B, managed by custom Python software with a user-friendly graphical interface. Mechanical Impedance Analysis (MIA) and Eddy Current Testing (ET) methods were employed to assess the system’s performance on representative test specimens. Results indicate that the system delivers reliable and accurate measurements comparable to commercial tools like the MAUS V, while offering simplicity and modularity. Limitations such as scanning speed and handling of complex geometries are acknowledged, with potential solutions proposed for future enhancement. The system provides an affordable and customizable alternative for NDT automation in the aerospace industry.

Opis:
The article presents the results of tests aimed at detecting discontinuities in the subsurface layer of elements intended for further processing. For the initial identification of discontinuities, the method of computed tomography was used. Based on the tomographic images of selected typical defects and measurements of the electrical conductivity of the material, the parameters for the eddy current tests were determined. A series of discontinuities in the subsurface layer to a depth of about 0.48 mm were detected. This allowed, at a given stage of machining, relevant elements to be selected for further processing.

In this paper the results of pulsed eddy current testing (PEC) for nonferrous materials are presented. The research deals with metal and alloy probe (Al) with known value of conductivity with artificial defects in form discontinuities (notches) with known depth and width. The output signals from eddy current transducer for PEC technique picked up with a digital oscilloscope were recorded in separate files and then investigated by the set of analyzing wavelets. The programming environment of Matlab with the Wavelet Toolbox of The MathWorks was employed .The local properties of signals were derived applying Morlet wavelet (morl) and symlet of eighth order (sym8). Based on one-dimensional real signal in time the jointly frequency and time analysis was performed to extract the localization distinguishing details of meaning energy correlated with type and size of fabricated material flaws. Detecting the fundamental properties was performed with the scalogram plots. Some kind of causality was observed depending on localization the sound details the more right on the time axis the deeper or more extensive was the size of material flaw.

In the paper there are presented the results of an experimental research oriented towards solving defectoscopy problems applying continuous and discrete wavelet transform (CWT and DWT) for pulsed eddy current response analysis. The investigations has been performed on some sets of categories of material flaws made of different metals of, with various depth, width and regular/non regular shapes fabricated in form surface and subsurface defects. Detecting and recognizing selected types of flaws and classifying them due to derivation of distinguished features of the tested materials has been performed in an environment of MATLAB Wavelet Toolbox ver. 5.2 in the framework of Wavelet Analyzer functionality. The certain part of analysis was made out with Multiple 1D tool and Regression Estimation 1-D support taking advantage of their facilities. In fact some families of signal records exhibited correlation between lag versus reference signal and flaw properties, while in the other cases the amplitude or shape of the signal was the crucial thing. The proposed approach seems as affective tool for PEC defectoscopy and defectometry.

Opis:
This article describes the effects of non-destructive eddy current testing (ECT) on steel pipes. To improve the accuracy of ECT, it is considered important to use numerical analysis. However, we propose finite element modeling for eddy current testing of cracked pipes. The end of this paper describes the results of finite element modeling and numerical analysis for eddy current testing of cracked steel pipes. The results obtained from this method are very similar and consistent with the experimental data. It is proved that the simulation method is also valid for other work.
