Opis:
The paper presents the results of the study concerning elastic properties of beech veneers assembled in plywood panels. There has been derived a complete set of elastic constants for veneers considered as orthotropic bodies. Young’s moduli in the grain direction and in the direction perpendicular to the grain were determined by bending plywood strips with their longitudinal axis parallel and perpendicular to the grain of the face plies. The other elastic moduli of the veneers were calculated through the Young’s modulus in the grain direction, with using the regression functions derived for hardwoods by Bodig and Goodman (1973). The effect of glue lines in plywood on the veneer elastic properties was evaluated.

Mesomorphic, optic, dielectric, elastic and viscous properties of multi-component isothiocyanato mixtures

Opis:
Four nematic mixtures A, B, C and D, comprising alkylphenylethylphenyl isothiocyanates, alkylcyclohexylphenylisothiocyanates, biphenyl and terphenyl derivatives, respectively, were prepared and their physical properties investigated, including birefringence, static permittivity, dielectric anisotropy, splay elastic constant and rotational and bulk viscosity. All the mixtures exhibited a broad nematic range ($\sim 100^{\circ} $), moderate birefringence ($ \Delta n \sim 0.23-0.26 $), positive dielectric anisotropy ($\Delta \epsilon \sim 8-10$ ) and low rotational viscosity. The mixtures showed improved performance in birefringence and viscosity properties in comparison with the widely used commercial mixture E7. As far as display performance is concerned, mixture D was found to be the most valuable. A comprehensive study of the usefulness of the biphenyl and terphenyl derivatives as dopants in mixtures has also been conducted with a view to improving their physical parameters to give faster electro-optical response times in liquid crystal display devices. Application of these mixtures is envisaged in high-speed photonics and liquid crystal display devices.

Opis:
The paper covers an adequate theory on vertical motion of the mass-elastic system. This system is an oscillator with the motion being a free harmonic motion. The first extended link of the consideration presents a critical analysis of the existent knowledge referred to this subject. Then the energetic states of the oscillator have been determined. Next the force characteristics of the free harmonic motion of the oscillator are presented. A general source equation of the path/way length and the resulting detailed forms, signalizing extensive possibilities to build up the characteristics, have been presented. Finally the connections between the characteristics of real and simulative motions were derived. It should be added that this first mentioned motion is the subject of adequate description presented here. The simulated motion is referred to the existent classical theory which has been subjected under a critical consideration.
