Opis:
Antimony nanowires with diameters ranging from 35 nm to 320 nm were successfully prepared by simple, galvanostatic electrodeposition inside the pores of anodic alumina membranes from a citrate based electrolyte. The use of the potassium antimonyl tartrate electrolyte for electrodeposition results in the formation of $Sb/Sb_{2}O_{3}$ nanowires. The structural features of the nanowire arrays were investigated by FE-SEM, and the nanowire composition was confirmed by EDS and XRD measurements. A distinct peak at about $27.5^{o}$ in the XRD pattern recorded for nanowires formed in the tartrate electrolyte was attributed to the presence of co-deposited $Sb_{2}O_{3}$. Three types of dense arrays of Sn-SnSb nanowires with diameters ranging from 82 nm to 325 nm were also synthesized by DC galvanostatic electrodeposition into the anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes for the first time. Only Sn and SnSb peaks appeared in the XRD pattern and both phases seem to have a relatively high degree of crystallinity. The influence of current density applied during electrodeposition on the composition of nanowires was investigated. It was found that the Sb content in fabricated nanowires decreases with increasing current density. The diameters of all synthesized nanowires roughly correspond to the dimensions of the nanochannels of AAO templates used for electrodeposition.

Opis:
Indium antimonide (InSb) is a III–V compound semiconductor that in a form of nanowires can possess improved thermoelectrical and optical properties compared to the corresponding bulk crystal. Here, we applied three electrodeposition techniques for a fast and inexpensive template-assisted fabrication of InSb nanowires from a sodium citrate-citric acid solution at room temperature. The home-made anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates with the pore diameter of 100 nm were used. InSb nanowires were synthesized by potentiostatic, galvanostatic and periodic pulse reverse techniques. The morphology, composition and crystallinity of as-obtained and annealed nanowires were investigated and compared with the literature data. It was found that the potentiostatic and pulse reverse methods gave crystalline nanowires. On the other hand, the constant current density deposition results in a partially amorphous nanowire material.

Opis:
In this paper the electrodeposition of boron on the surface of cast iron as a coating is applied to increase the hardness and protect the substrate against abrasive wear. The boron containing coating was synthesized by electrodeposition process from a NaCl-KCl (1:1 mol)-10 w%NaF-10w% KBF4 molten salt. The effect of electrolysis parameters (temperature and time) on the hardness is presented; the current density varied in the range –37 – –4.5 mA/cm2, allowing perfect coverage of and respect for dimensions. The electrochemical process was carried out at different temperatures (750°C-900°C) and for different periods of time (5-10 hours). Depending on the current density and duration of electrolysis, the deposits consist of FeB or Fe2B. Microhardness measurements across the boride layer indicated very high hardness values (between 1600 and 2100 HV0.05).The structure of the boride layer is linked to its boron content and thermal history: as-deposited coatings present very small grain sizes and can be considered as nearly amorphous.

Opis:
The paper presents the results of the studies of nickel-graphene composite coatings deposited by the electrochemical reduction method. A bath with low concentration of nickel ions, graphene as dispersed particles and organic compounds were used for deposition of the composite coatings nickel-graphene. The results of investigations of coatings deposited from the electrolyte containing 0.33, 0.5 and 1 g/dm3  graphene and two surface-active compounds were shown. The particles content in the coatings, the surface morphology, the cross-sectional structures of the coated samples, thickness and internal stresses were measured. Voltammetric method was used for examination of the corrosion resistance of samples of composite coatings in 0.5 M NaCl solution. The obtained results suggest that the content of incorporated graphene particles increases with an increasing amount of graphene in plating bath. The applications of organic addition agents was advantageous because it caused compressive stresses in the coatings. All of the nickel-graphene composite coatings had better corrosion resistance than the nickel coatings.

Fabrication of free-standing copper foils covered with highly-ordered copper nanowire arrays

Opis:
The through-hole nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes with relatively large surface area (ca. 2$cm^{2}$) were employed for fabrication of free-standing and mechanically stable copper foils covered with close-packed and highly-ordered copper nanowire arrays. The home-made AAO membranes with different pore diameters and interpore distances were fabricated via a two-step self-organized anodization of aluminum performed in sulfuric acid, oxalic acid and phosphoric acid followed by the pore opening/widening procedure. The direct current (DC) electrodeposition of copper was performed efficiently on both sides of AAO templates. The bottom side of the AAO templates was not insulated and consequently Cu nanowire arrays on thick Cu layers were obtained. The proposed template-assisted fabrication of free-standing copper nanowire array electrodes is a promising method for synthesis of nanostructured current collectors. The composition of Cu nanowires was confirmed by energy dispersive X-Ray spectroscopy (EDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses. The structural features of nanowires were evaluated from field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) images and compared with the characteristic parameters of anodic alumina membranes.

Opis:
Magnetic nanowires of Fe, Fe-Co, and Fe-Ni alloy and layered structure were prepared by electrochemical alternating current (AC) deposition method. The morphology of the nanowires in and without the matrix was studied by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The wires either show strong dependence on the combination of elements deposition (alloy or layered) or chemical composition (Co or Ni). The magnetic properties of the nanostructures were determined on the basis of Mössbauer spectroscopy (MS).

Opis:
The fabrication of free standing silver, polypyrrole (PPy) and hybrid PPy-Ag nanowire arrays was reported. Silver, P Py and PPy-Ag nanowires were produced by electrochemical deposition/polymerization of metal/polymer in anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates. The home-made AAO templates were fabricated by two-step anodization of aluminum performed in oxalic acid, sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid at the anodizing potentials of 25 V, 45 V and 195 V, respectively. Silver nanowires with a diameter of $\sim$40, 80 and 300 nm were synthesized by DC electrode position from a commercially available plating bath. PPy nanowires, $\sim$80 nm in diameter, were synthesized by electropolymerization of a monomer in a solution containing pyrrole (Py) and $NaClO_{4}$ by applying a constant potential. The hybrid PPy-Ag nanowires, $\sim$80 nm in diameter, were synthesized by a simple simultaneous cathodic elect ropolymerization of pyrrole and metal deposition in a solution containing $HNO_{3}$, $NaNO_{3}$, pyrrole (Py) and $AgNO_{3}$ by applying a constant potential. After the electrochemical deposition, free standing Ag, PPy and PPy-Ag nanowire arrays were obtained by a subseq uent chemical etching of the AAO template in an aqueous NaOH solution. The morphology and structural characterization of fabricated nanowires were performed by FE-SEM and EDAX analyses.

Opis:
Recently the one-dimensional ZnO nanostructures have attracted much attention in gas sensor applications owing to their increased role of the surface. The authors have obtained ZnO rods of sub-micron size using the solution growth method with the growth temperature below 100.C. Investigations indicate that the rods have a well-defined hexagonal morphology and a wurtzite structure. The best uniformity and alignment of the sub-micron crystals was however obtained when electrodeposition from aqueous solution was developed. Sizes of these rods depend on the growth parameters. Moreover electrodeposition leads to a faster growth rate of ZnO sub-micron rods (2 hrs) as compared to the growth from solution (8 hrs). After electrodeposition the rods can be easily reoriented in external electric fields by using substrates with electrodes of appropriate geometry and configuration (dielectrophoretic effect). This enables the preparation of samples which can be used in gas sensor technology.

Opis:
The codeposition of tungsten with copper was studied. Thin, compact and hard micrometer-thick layers of a new, advanced Cu–W alloy with W content of above 10 at.% (26 wt.%) have been obtained by electrodeposition. The alloy was deposited on silver substrate from citrate plating baths under conditions of constant current and high tungstate–copper ion concentration ratio. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to characterize the alloys. The obtained results provide evidence for the first successful codeposition of significant amount of tungsten with a metal other than the one belonging to the triad iron group.

Opis:
The preparation of composite metal oxide to attain high efficiency in removing phenol from wastewater has a great concern. In the present study, the focus would be on adopting antimony-tin oxide coating onto graphite substrates instead of titanium; besides the effect of SbCl3 concentration on the SnO2-Sb2O3 composite would be examined. The performance of this composite electrode as the working electrode in the removal of phenol by sonoelectrochemical oxidation will be studied. The antimony-tin dioxide composite electrode was prepared by cathodic deposition with SnCl2 . 2H2O solution in a mixture of HNO3 and NaNO3, with different concentrations of SbCl3. The SnO2-Sb2O3 deposit layer’s structure and morphology were examined and the 4 g/l SbCl3 gave the more crystallized with nanoscale electrodeposition. The highest removal of phenol was 100% at a temperature of 30° C, with a current density (CD) of 25 mA/cm2 .
