Opis:
Nowadays, agriculture has to meet the growing food demand together with high requirements of environmental protection, especially regarding the climate change. The greenhouse gas emissions differ not only on a global, but also on a regional scale, and mitigation strategies are effective when they are adapted properly. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to present the results of methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions inventory on a regional level in Poland in years 1999-2015. The CH4 and N2O emissions were calculated according to the methodology used by the National Centre for Emissions Management (NCEM) for national inventory for United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and Kyoto Protocol. The data were taken from Central Statistical Office of Poland. The CH4 emissions in all studied years varied strongly between voivodeships and ranged from 5.6-7.5 Gg y-1 in the Lubuskie Voivodeship to 84.8-104.3 Gg y-1 in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. While in most voivodeships the CH4 emissions dropped down, in Podlaskie, Warmińsko-Mazurskie, and Wielkopolskie voivodeships, the emissions of this gas increased significantly as a consequence of the development of dairy and meat production. In 1999, the highest N2O fluxes were calculated for the Wielkopolskie (5.7 Gg y-1), Mazowieckie (4.8 Gg y-1) Kujawsko-Pomorskie (3.5 Gg y-1) and Lubelskie (3.3 Gg y-1) voivodeships, while in 2015, the highest nitrous oxide emissions were calculated for the Wielkopolskie (7.3 Gg y-1), Mazowieckie (5.5 Gg y-1), Kujawsko-Pomorskie (4.1 Gg y-1) and Podlaskie (4.1 Gg y-1) voivodeships. In the studied period, the contribution of N2O emissions from crop production increased in almost all voivodeships except the Podlaskie, Lubuskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie regions. The growth in emissions from mineral fertilization and crop residue incorporation, together with the increase of emission from the animal sector in some regions of Poland, resulted in the higher national emission of nitrous oxide in the period of 1999 to 2015. Although there is a range of GHG reduction possibilities, the mitigation should be adapted with caution, on the basis of precisely calculated GHG emissions. The best management practices, if followed carefully, may reduce the environmental burden of the agricultural production and enhance its profitability.

Opis:
An analysis of the methods used in Bulgaria for estimating CO2, SO2 and dust emissions has been conducted. The first methodology, which is officially used by all energy auditors at the Agency for Sustainable Energy Development targets the energy efficiency of combustion devices installed mainly at industrial enterprises. The second methodology, used by the Ministry of Environment and Water, is more comprehensive and can be applied to thermal power plants, small combustion plants as well as industrial systems. In recent years, many projects related to energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, including hydrogen technologies, which require an assessment of reduced greenhouse gas emissions, have been implemented as a priority. The use of reliable and accurate methods is essential in the assessment of greenhouse emissions. A novel methodology, based on stoichiometric equations of the combustion process for solid, liquid and gaseous fuels has been proposed and comprised. This novel methodology is characterized by higher precision compared to the methods currently in place and this is achieved through calculating emissions from the combustion of energy fuels accounting for the full elemental composition of the fuel and its heating value, whereas the current commonly applied methods use only the fuel type and the carbon content. A further benefit of the proposed methodology is the ability to estimate emissions of fuels for which there is no alternative method for calculating CO2, SO2 and dust. Results of emission calculations according to the analysed methods are presented. Finally, a comparative analysis between the presented methodologies including an assessment of their accuracy and universal applicability has been made.

Opis:
The transposition of the EU ETS directive in Poland causes several interpreta- tion problems. The biggest concern is caused by the imprecise definition of the stationary technical unit, which forces the installations’ operators to function in state of uncertainty. The primary reason for this is that the word unit in Polish language might be translated in various manners. The choice of Polish legislator does not allow the operators that have several devices that only jointly meet the requirements of Annex I of the EU ETS directive to have the capability of defining whether they will be regarded as one installation or several technical units that do not meet the participation criteria of EU ETS. The problem of practical nature, which is shown by the response of Ministry of Environment of Republic of Poland to the author’s motion for disclosure of public information. The article focuses on the problem itself, the Ministry of Environment response, as well as de lege ferenda considerations.

Opis:
The article compares driving test data using the latest legislative proposals applicable to passenger cars. Real Driving Emissions procedures have been introduced in the Commission Regulation (EU) 2016/427. Currently, quantitative RDE requirements have been established to limit emissions from exhaust systems in all operating conditions in accordance with the road emission limits set out in Regulation (EC) No. 715/2007. Several measurements were performed on the same test route in accordance with the RDE test guidelines, which requires a number of criteria to be met. These criteria include the length of the measuring segments, their overall test timeshare, and the dynamic characteristics of the drive. A mobile device for reading the EOBD System information was used to record the engine and vehicle operating parameters during tests. This allowed for the monitoring of parameters such as: load value, engine speed and vehicle velocity. The obtained results were then analysed for their compatibility with the RDE procedure requirements. Despite the same research route, the obtained results were not the same. The analysis also uses the two-dimensional operating time-share characteristics expressed in vehicle velocity and acceleration co-ordinates. As a result, it was possible to compare the dynamic properties, share of operating time and, consequently, to check the validity of conducted drive tests in terms of their practicability and emission values.

Opis:
This study presents the proposal for calculations of overall characteristics of unit HC emissions from passenger whicles. Inspiration for the project was derived from the author 's own research and the research works by the selected centres, both in Poland and abroad. Overall, (static) characteristics, with maps of unit emissions of HC, CO and NOx were employed as a basis. This assumption is based on different profiles of fuel consumption and emissions in driving and non-driving phases. In calculations for driving conditions, static overall characteristics of unit emissions were complemented with characteristics of changes in DeltaHC, DeltaCO and DeltaNOx for non-stationary engine working conditions. The author based on the results obtained by other authors has already developed these partial characteristics. Development of reliable characteristics requires implementation of expensive research program (in cooperation with main research centres in Poland), which will require changes in a leading control parameter. In particular, uncorrected, corrected, dynamic correction maps for emissions of HC, examples of dynamic characteristics for emissions from vehicles, characteristics of HC emissions for 5 run-up phases in higher gears and engine braking, numbers for vehicle driving and non-driving phases considered in calculations, coverage of operation field for the engine, static overall characteristics of unit HC emissions, effect of equivalence ratio on performance of three-way catalytic exhaust converter are presented in the paper.

This paper presents the results of tests conducted in real traffic conditions in a mountainous area, taking into account the natural topography characteristics. The tested vehicle was of SUV type (Sport Utility Vehicle) with gasoline and Diesel engine, complying with emission standard Euro 5. Using the portable system for measurement of harmful substances, measurements of pollution emissions were conducted. The results obtained confirmed the substantial changes in the emission of harmful components of exhaust fumes with the change of the road grade. In all considered cases, it was confirmed that with the increasing route grade, the road emissions of all harmful components of exhaust fumes increase, however this increase varies for different pollutants. The most sensitive for spark ignition engines is emission of particulate matter, which is associated mainly with the compression ignition engines. For small changes of the road grade, the most sensitive seems to be road emission of carbon monoxide, for gasoline engines emission of particulate matter is specific, first, to all diesel engines, increase of the road grade to 10% caused on average twofold increase in the emission of harmful components of exhaust gases.

Opis:
Construction and mining operations generally include off-road equipment working in a load and dump point and a fleet of trucks cycling between these points. The equipment used in such operations consumes large amounts of fuel and produce various air pollutants, which have negative effects on the environment. This issue necessitates the need of reducing the emissions from these operations due to their negative impacts on the environment. Reduction may be via either improvement in technology or management of the operations. In this paper, previous studies on the fuel-based emissions of construction equipment are reviewed and evaluated. Additionally, some research involving the modeling and simulation of these operations is noted. At the end, the optimum points of cost and emission for varying fleet sizes in a case study (this includes an earthmoving operation involving a loader and a variety of trucks) are compared, and suggestions are made for future studies.

Opis:
Open-loop sulphur scrubbers must be switched off, and the fuel must be changed to low-sulphur fuel before entering German inland waters. Immediately after the scrubbers are turned off, warm exhaust gases cause the residue left in the scrubber to vaporise, leading to the increased sulphur content of the exhaust gas. The momentary increase in sulphur emissions immediately after the open-loop scrubbers are turned off has received little attention in research. This paper presents the onboard measurement results of exhaust gases and examines the effects of sulphur compounds released into the air. In this case, the observed sulphur emission peak is problematic due to the geographical location. The ship sails to the river port, passing the coastal town of Travemünde, where the exhaust gases are released. Due to this, the emissions are more harmful when compared to emissions generated in the open seas.
