Opis:: The author deals with the problem of differences in meaning between the concepts of socialization and education. In social sciences, and especially in educational sciences, there is no agreement as to the relationship between the scopes of these two fundamental concepts. The article attempts to overcome these semantic difficulties by adopting an evolutionary perspective in line with the assumption that education emerged as a specific type of socialization in human prehistory. The search of its essential properties (and thus differences), was guided by the cognitive directive of Aristotle, according to which “the best understanding of things is achieved by those who study them at their inception”. The article uses the method of data analysis established in numerous studies on social and cultural human development, starting from the earliest stages of life in primitive groups. Socialization appeared in these groups as a way of transmitting collective experience, and thus culture, necessary for their survival. The continuation of the analysis leads to investigating what factors made this culturation take a different form, namely that of education. As it turns out, this difference is difficult to discern in the intentionality of cultural influences. It appears only when the group becomes aware of the need to adapt adolescents to fulfill various social roles. This already requires going beyond socialization, which is always a spontaneous process including widespread participation of group members in the transmission of an experience that is also common. In order to provide selected group members with selected elements of the experience linked to their social role, the group must appoint competent members for the transfer of the experience selected to perform specific social roles. These activities constitute one more role distinguished in the group – the role of the educator. And the activities that make up their performance are education.

Opis:: Hans Christian Andersen in Polish literary space, differently than in Danish, remains as a writer “packed into a child recipient”. In the new curriculum Andersen’s tales are on the compulsory reading list for the first stage of education (grades 1–3). Such early contact with the Danish writer’s works results in restricted perception of them. It would be justified to offer Andersen’s text to older recipients. Enculturative messages at the time of writing the works of the famous writer were definitely more unambiguous. The Victorian upbringing model assigned socially expected roles to women and men. Today, the paradigm of femininity and masculinity constitutes a conglomerate of traditional and egalitarian patterns of behaviour (gender roles). The advantage of the more pronounced (in reference to traditional tales) female creations in the works of Andersen tells us to turn into the female recipient. Patterns instilled into the readers by means of the well-known works of Andersen have been evaluated, to a greater extent, as negative or stereotypical, fitting into the old-fashioned upbringing model, harmful. The article attempts to verify some of the research positions and tries to determine what cultural messages send Andersen’s works in the scope of enculturative patterns for girls.

Opis:: The aim of the text is to discuss Karol Irzykowski’s concepts of “pałuba” and construction, which he proposed in Pałuba (1903), where he characterises a “constructional element” appealing to the theses of empirical criticism of Richard Avenarius and Ernst Mach. However, the question of the construction, understood first from the epistemological and psychological point of view, was present in the theses of Kant, Fichte and Schelling, and it became popularised thanks to neo-Kantianism and empirical criticism. The theses related to the construction were intensively discussed during the creation of Pałuba and Irzykowski’s subsequent works, in which the issue of construction also appears, considered as a cognitive schema, as the formal element confronted with the content, as the constructional aspect of the verbal and visual (film) communication. His later works concern the cultural construction which is also a formal construction, and they come into being at the same time that Cassirer’s books on the symbolic forms of culture were published. However, the question of construction is best presented in Pałuba, described with the phrase “constructional element”, which was opposed to a “pałuba” (“pałubic element”). Confronting the terms “pałuba”, i.e. natural, direct, presented to the human being, and “construction”, i.e. the world created by human beings, specific for us, Irzykowski defines human existence, he shows the regularities of human acts, cognition and feeling. At the same time, he captures the “natural” aspect of culture with the use of the term “pałuba”. It is that coexistence of the naturalness and the specifically human products within the world of culture — in the world which annexes the “natural”, bestows the senses and meanings on “pałuba” — that makes an “enculturation” possible, i.e. an introduction of the “wild” man into culture, teaching and adaptating to life in the cultural world, full of human senses and meanings. The text discusses the category of the “constructional element” and presents Irzykowski’s thoughts on the background of the hitherto existing concepts of construction, as well as in the context of his own anthropological, epistemological and cultural theses.

Opis:: Unemployment is one of the main factors causing problems in the functioning of the family and above all in the process of socialization. It is one of the causes of poverty and the process of marginalization of many families in Polish society. Poverty has a special impact not only on the functioning of the whole family but especially on the upbringing and behavior of children and youth, and promotes the development of dysfunction in the family. Poverty affects the sphere of personality, the ability to communicate in a peer environment, the spread of pathology among children and adolescents. This problem undoubtedly has a negative impact on shaping the worldview of young individuals who usually finish their education at the basic level. Unemployed families encounter many barriers on their way, which impede their lives and discourage them from functioning in society. Children, seeing the breakdown of their parents, are becoming negative about people and the world. Poverty is a phenomenon that mainly damages human life, although there are cases when it teaches people responsibility and social maturity.

Opis:: Enculturation in cognitive studies perspective: Enculturation is an idea that emphasizes the significant influence of the cultural environment on cognitive processes. In the background of empirical research on the border of cultural anthropology and neuroscience, some scholars are trying to identify neural structures that may participate in the process of assimilating cultural information. In the paper, I shall argue that the concept of enculturation, as part of the situated cognition, can be enriched with the idea of affordances (in particular cultural and conventional affordances). In the first part, I present briefly the concept of enculturation as an approach that fits in the 4E. Then I characterize the concept of a cultural niche as a landscape of cultural affordances. In the second part, I consider a possible neurobiological mechanism of the discussed processes. Referring to the concept of Paul Cisk who has shown a possible neurobiological mechanism of the realization of motor affordances, it has been proposed that conventional affordances can be realized in a similar way. For this purpose, I shall discuss the concept of cortical-subcortical loops as a broader proposal compared to the concept of Cisk. According to it, motor, emotional and cognitive processes function in an integrated manner.

Szczególne znaczenie w tej narracji pełni muzyka, która staje się mostem porozumienia i narzędziem wspólnego dialogu między odmiennymi kulturami. Film, ukazując te tematy, podkreśla uniwersalne wartości chrześcijańskie, takie jak poszanowanie godności ludzkiej, dążenie do sprawiedliwości czy solidarność. Opis:: Celem artykułu jest ukazanie znaczenia edukacji medialnej w procesie przygotowania dziecka do funkcjonowania we współczesnej przestrzeni komunikacyjnej i informacyjnej społeczeństwa XXI wieku. Widać to wyraźnie na przykładzie rozwoju mediów cyfrowych, które na przestrzeni ostatnich dekad stały się nieodłączną częścią środowiska, w którym dorasta młody człowiek. W tym kontekście edukacja medialna, zarówno w aspekcie technologicznym, jak i kulturowym, to działanie edukacyjne, zmierzające do wyposażenia dzieci i młodzieży w kompetencje medialne. Dzięki nabytym umiejętnościom wśród dzieci wykształcają się postawy świadomego i krytycznego odbioru mediów, a także racjonalnego posługiwania się nimi jako narzędziami komunikowania się, uczenia i pracy. W artykule zostały wyodrębnione i omówione te obszary edukacji medialnej, które są powiązane z procesem socjalizacji dziecka i wprowadzaniem go w wirtualną przestrzeń społeczną. W ramach oddziaływań wychowawczych zachodzą procesy socjalizacji i inkulturacji, które przygotowują dzieci i młodzież do życia w świecie cyfrowym i ułatwiają im wejście w rzeczywistość społeczną zapośredniczoną przez media. Działania te budują odporność na występujące współcześnie zagrożenia i przez to, przynajmniej częściowo, zapewniają gwarancję bezpieczeństwa.
This article aims to show the importance of media education in the process of preparing children to function in the modern communication and information space of 21st century society. Today, the mass media are one of the integral elements of our everyday environment. This is evident in the example of the development of digital media, which in recent decades have become an indispensable part of the environment in which young people grow up. In this context, media education, both in technological and cultural terms, is the educational activity aimed at equipping children with media literacy. The acquired skills help children to develop a conscious attitude and critical reception of media as well as the rational use of them as tools of communication, learning and work. In the article these areas of media education have been identified and discussed, which are associated with the process of socialization of children and placing them into virtual social space. The processes of socialization and enculturation are part of educational activities, they prepare children and youths for life in the digital world and facilitate their entry into a social reality mediated by the media. These actions build resistance to the common threats of modern communication and increase the safety level in this way.

Opis:: Corrida de toros jest wielowiekową hiszpańską tradycją. Od wielu lat obserwujemy wyraźne zwiększenie się liczby działań krytykujących organizowanie takich widowisk. Można zatem określić tauromachię terminem trudnej tradycji. Artykuł porusza problematykę szkół tauromachicznych w kontekście badania trudnych tradycji oraz kulturowych uwarunkowań ich praktykowania. Ponadto analizie zostały poddane społeczne konsekwencje tauromachii oraz działania szkół dla chcących zostać torerami. Szkoły tauromachiczne funkcjonują w niemal wszystkich regionach Hiszpanii, chociaż najwięcej jest ich w Andaluzji i Kastylii La Manczy. Program nauczania w tych placówkach musi być kompatybilny z programami w szkołach publicznych (lub prywatnych) realizujących obowiązek edukacyjny. Dzieci i młodzież (niepełnoletnia) mogą się zapisać do takiej szkoły za zgodą rodziców. Ogromne kontrowersje budzi przede wszystkim udział dzieci i młodzieży w zajęciach praktycznych: walka z młodymi bykami lub jałówkami, ranienie ich i zabijanie. Badania prowadzone na dzieciach doświadczających widoku corridy de toros nie przynoszą jednoznacznej oceny, iż ma to negatywny wpływ na ich zdrowie psychiczne. Jednakże przeciwnicy tauromachii w dyskursie wokół corridy powołują się właśnie na tego typu argumentację.
Corrida de toros is a centuries-old Spanish tradition. For many years we have observed a significant increase in the number of activities criticizing the organization of such shows.Therefore, bullfights can be described as a difficult tradition. The article touches upon the issue of tauromachical schools in the context of research on difficult traditions and cultural conditions of their practice. In addition, the social consequences of bullgfight and the activities of schools for those who want to become toreros were analysed. Tauromachical schools operate in almost all regions of Spain, although most of them are in Andalusia and Castile-La Mancha. The programme of teaching in these schools must be compatible with the programmes of public (or private) schools carrying out their educational duties. Children and adolescents can enroll in such school with their parents’ consent. The participation of children and adolescents in practical activities is very controversial: fighting young bulls or heifers, injuring them and killing them. Research conducted on children experiencing the view of the corrida de toros does not bring a clear assessment that it has a negative impact on their mental health. However, opponents of tauromachy in the discourse of corrida de toros are citing this type of argumentation.
