Opis:
Prosumers are the part of new type of society that is being gradually created together with the process of energy transition into environmentally friendly model of energy system based on renewables. Prosumers are active market participants, which benefit from the energy transition. These informed consumers can, through their choices, drive development of green energy and support environment protection. Their active role in energy system entails certain challenges related to the economic and technical issues. Therefore, there is need to implement appropriate legal basis to regulate involvement of consumers on the market as well as to develop new technologies and infrastructure in order to enable them an access to the system. These actions collectively aim to strengthen national economy and ensure security of energy supply.

Gender-aware business process management

Opis:
Business processes have been widely addressed by the research community in the last 25 years. Researchers and practitioners have developed methods and software for facilitating modelling, their analysis, and reengineering. However, the intersection of business process management with gender equity has received limited attention. This paper addresses this gap by first posing key research questions about these interwoven themes for future research activities. We then outline foundational principles for gender-aware business process management. Next, we discuss how existing methodologies and technologies can be used to transition from gender-blind to gender-aware business process management. In detail, we discuss possible enhancement of modelling techniques, process mining, and video-surveillance. Finally, we propose a methodology for evaluating whether a business process within an enterprise is gender-aware. If it is not, our methodology provides a structured approach for rethinking and reengineering the process to incorporate gender-aware principles.

Opis:
Numerous case studies show that citizens engage in various ways in renewable and low carbon energy projects, thereby contributing to the sustainable energy transition. To date, however, a systematic and cross-country database on citizen-led initiatives and projects is lacking. By performing a major compilation and reviewing copious data sources from websites to official registries, we provide a Europe-wide inventory with over 10,000 initiatives and 16,000 production units in 29 countries, focusing on the past 20 years. Our data allow cross-country statistical analysis, supporting the elicitation of empirical insights capable of extending beyond the perspective of single case studies. Our data also align with ongoing efforts to implement two EU Directives that aim at strengthening the active role of citizens in the energy transition. While the focus of our data collection is on Europe, the data and methodology can contribute to the global analysis of citizen-led energy action.

Liechtenstein is the fourth smallest country in Europe, which determines the low economic importance of this country on the international arena. Therefore, Liechtenstein is usually overlooked in the analysis of economic policies in various countries, including the energy sector. However, the analysis of such a small country brings a valuable complement to researches on potential and challenges with regard to the implementation of energy transformation policy especially taking into account the countries with poor capabilities. It should be emphasised that due to difficult geographical conditions and strong external influences, deepened analysis of the process of formulating energy policy in Liechtenstein should arouse the interest of those countries that suffer geographical disadvantages to strengthen their energy security.

Opis:
Subject and purpose of work: The European Union’s energy policy focuses mainly on three areas: reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the energy sector by increasing the use of RES, reducing emissions of harmful pollutants, and increasing the efficiency of the electricity used. Sustainable energy use, on the other hand, is clearly associated with an increased use of renewable energy sources, which ensures energy security, as well as diversification of energy supplies that sustain and improve the quality of the environment. The purpose of the paper is to present the diversity of the countries of the European Union in terms of the actions they take in the field of energy and climate policy resulting from the European Union directives. Materials and methods: Based on the goals of energy policy presented in the EU directives a number of indicators were selected in order to describe the actions taken by EU member states. After a substantive and statistical verification, 6 variables were left. The use of the Ward’s method made it possible to create groups of countries that are similar in terms of their energy and climate policies. Conclusions: The most favorable situation in terms of the effects of the climate and energy policy can be observed in the current leaders, that is in Sweden and Finland as well as in Estonia. Central European countries, mainly Poland, have high-emission economies, accompanied by low investment in modern environmentally friendly technologies. This is manifested, among others, in high concentrations of particulate matter, which contributes to poor air quality, categories in which Poland has some of the worst results in the entire EU.

Opis:
The energy transition is a global trend that brings undeniable benefits but also poses challenges such as ensuring energy security, reducing energy poverty, achieving climate goals, and responding to the needs of a changing economy. The course of this process in Poland has been additionally influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine. Managing the energy transition falls within the competence of decision-making institutions equipped with appropriate political instruments. However, making optimal decisions in the energy sector requires support in the form of a precise analytical framework and reliable, up-to-date data. The proposed solution to address these needs is the establishment of the Energy Transition Observatory – a tool equipped with advanced scientific research capabilities and an appropriate data repository. This article describes a project dedicated to implementing this initiative, which received funding as part of the competition of the strategic research and development program “Społeczny i gospodarczy rozwój Polski w warunkach globalizujących się rynków” [“Social and Economic Development of Poland in the Conditions of Globalizing Markets”] (GOSPOSTRATEG) organized by the National Centre for Research and Development.

Opis:
Green hydrogen is globally seen as a universal fuel, feedstock or energy carrier and storage. The study aims to examine the role of the emerging green hydrogen market in developing countries in Africa. The goal is to indentify key factors that may either positively or negatively affect the development of green hydrogen energy in Africa. Several developing countries have been identified as potential key players in green hydrogen production: South Africa, Egypt, Morocco, and Namibia. These countries are expected to play a vital part in the development of hydrogen technologies due to favourable climatic conditions for the production of low-cost renewable energy, the possibility of exporting hydrogen to EU countries, and the presence of various national policy initiatives (national hydrogen strategies) and international partnerships (the Africa Green Hydrogen Alliance). The results showed that green hydrogen will boost economic development in African countries, stimulate investment and create new jobs. The study also identifies several barriers that could affect the development of green hydrogen in Africa: high investment costs for hydrogen infrastructure, financing, weak institutions, water scarcity and the imbalance between hydrogen for local use and for export.
