Negocjowanie pola i budowanie autonomii w dobie kryzysu.
The article discusses selected diagnoses on the crisis in the humanities. It concentrates on systemic issues related to the critical assessment of the relevance of the humanities to market realities as well as critical approaches to the humanities within the field itself. The freqenutly addressed problems faced by the members of academia are substantiated by sociological research and essayistic autoethnography. Problems of autonomy and engagement of the humanities are discussed in the context of Justyna Tabaszewska’s concept of subservient humanities presented in the work Humanistyka służebna. Negocjowanie pola i budowanie autonomii w dobie kryzysu [Subservient humanities. Mediating the field and building autonomy in times of crisis].

Opis:: The paper is devoted to presentation of conception, method and effects of the revitalization project, one of the results of which is The Contextual Dic-tionary of the Lemko Language (Котекстуальный словник лемківского языка). The presentation of the dictionary as a revitalization tool is pre-ceded by putting it into the conceptual field of the engaged humanities. Post-colonial studies have deconstructed the whole “army and fleet” of ideologies and practices that hide behind “benevolent” slogans of human-ism which undermine the non-central, peripheral cultures. It was the rep-resentatives of dominated cultures and communities that took part in this discourse, who enabled engagement in staving off the losses caused by those dominant interests. In this way, it is demonstrated, that the immer-sive model of Lemko language revitalization, which undoubtedly is en-dangered with extinction, refers to strategies developed in a broad cultur-al-conceptional context. However, the very thought or idea of a contextual dictionary must be seen as resulting from the actual need of those users of the Lemko language, who have committed themselves to sustain it. The need to gather and amass, to create the textual corpus, which is an active recording of traditional and at the same time, culturally unique lexis; and on the other hand, the semantic activation of the operative lexis which is necessary in new cultural situations, created a challenge, to which the re-vitalization project was the answer. Over six years of work – that will still Контекстуальный словник лемківского языка як ревіталізацийный проєкт73Keywords: contextual dictionary, engaged humanities, revitalization, Lemko language, endangered language, Lemko language corpus.continue, mainly online – has significant effects, including the prepara-tion of a team of young revitalizers of language and culture; gathering and amassing, but also activating a wide lexical and textual source of the Lemko language; bringing attention to and pointing out at the possibility of func-tioning of the indigenous language without structures mediated through the dominant language; reaching the mechanism of a linguistic worldview specific to Lemko culture. Recognizing the context as the most immediate and natural way of clarifying the meaning and function of lexeme was the reason of decision to introduce a contextual quotation for every meaning of the main word. This is why the dictionary is called “contextual”, which could be replaced with the notion of “immersive” or “revitalizing” as well.

Opis:: The paper addresses the issue of refugees in the broad sense of the term, i.e. people forced to leave their homes and seek conditions for a normal life due to climate change and to the excessive environment footprint left by humans. The numerous reasons for this type of displacement include drought, the grow-ing scarcity of natural resources in seas and oceans, and the unfair distribution of water. These three climate plagues are analysed on the basis of non¬ fiction literature – Wykluczeni [The Excluded], which is a book of reportage by Artur Domosławski, Ben Rawlence’s City of Thorns. Nine Lives in the World’s Largest Refu-gee Camp, and Stefano Liberti’s South of Lampedusa. In the public consciousness, migrations motivated by climate change and human interference in the ecosys-tem have been functioning since recently, but they will actually become the greatest challenge of our day and age. This is why the important role played by humanities is to speak about them, to comment on their performative power, to debate on potential solutions, and to trigger warning discourses leading to the development of a habit of imagining “scenarios for the future”. Acts of imagi-nation provide the possibility to shape the world in an unlimited way and to play out in a virtual manner some key social, cultural and political situations, in order to live well on an overcrowded planet, where water, land and food may be lacking a few decades from now.

Opis:: Artykuł dotyczy możliwości poszerzenia zakresu badań z zakresu onomastyki o założenia nowej humanistyki, które stanowią: przeciwstawienie się specjalizacji ograniczonej do jednej ściśle wyodrębnionej dyscypliny lub subdyscypliny naukowej; interdyscyplinarność i transdyscyplinarność badań naukowych, holistyczność ujęć, co umożliwia nowe spojrzenie na zjawiska związane z kulturą, historią, literaturą czy sztuką; oparcie na nowoczesnym instrumentarium badawczym, takim jak analiza big data, sztuczna inteligencja czy programowanie komputerowe; zastosowanie nauki w praktyce, dążność do wykorzystania odkryć i wniosków w celu rozwiązywania realnych problemów społecznych i kulturowych. Koncepcję wskazania aliansów onomastyki i nowej humanistyki oparto na propozycji Ryszarda Nycza, który w obrębie nowej humanistyki wyróżnia: humanistykę cyfrową, humanistykę zaangażowaną, humanistykę kognitywną, posthumanistykę i humanistykę artystyczną. W każdej z tych domena nowej humanistyki wskazano możliwości prowadzenia badań nad nazwami własnymi. Przeprowadzone obserwacje prowadzą do konkluzji: 1. wnioski wynikające z badań nad nazwami własnymi są nie tylko ważne dla nauki jako konstruktu abstrakcyjnego, ale także dla praktyki, 2. onomastyka powinna być traktowana przede wszystkim jako subdyscyplina lingwistyki i szerzej – humanistyki, stanowiąca źródło wiedzy o kulturze, 3. oprócz opisu i interpretacji zjawisk odnoszących się do samego języka i komunikacji, onomastyka powinna dążyć do formułowania wniosków diagnostycznych i perspektywicznych, naświetlających aktualne problemy człowieka i świata, a także uwrażliwiających na nie, 4. koniecznym założeniem jest pielęgnowanie i pogłębianie otwarcia metodologicznego onomastyki na inne subdyscypliny, dyscypliny i dziedziny nauki, jej zorientowanie na postawione pytanie a nie na narzędzia, które miałyby zostać użyte do udzielenia odpowiedzi, 5. refleksja onomastyczna w obrębie poszczególnych domen nowej humanistyki potwierdza czasami ich krzyżowanie się, a tym samym komplementarność i szansę na ujęcie holistyczne danego problemu.
The article discusses the possibilities of expanding the scope of onomastics research through the establishment of a new humanities framework. This framework involves opposing the scientific specialization limited to a single distinct discipline or sub-discipline; interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary scientific research; holistic approaches that enable a new perspective on phenomena related to culture, history, literature, and art; reliance on modern research tools such as big data analysis, artificial intelligence, and computer programming; and the application of science in practice, aiming to use discoveries and conclusions to solve real social and cultural problems. The concept of aligning onomastics with the new humanities is based on Ryszard Nycz's proposal, which distinguishes digital humanities, engaged humanities, cognitive humanities, posthumanities, and artistic humanities within the new humanities. In each of these domains, possibilities for researching proper names are identified. The observations lead to the conclusion that: 1. Conclusions from research on proper names are not only important for science as an abstract construct but also for practice. 2. Onomastics should be treated primarily as a sub-discipline of linguistics and more broadly as part of the humanities, providing knowledge about culture. 3. In addition to describing and interpreting language and communication-related phenomena, onomastics should strive to formulate diagnostic and prospective conclusions highlighting current human and world issues, as well as raising awareness about them”. 4. It is essential to nurture and deepen the methodological openness of onomastics to other sub-disciplines, disciplines, and fields of science, focusing on the question rather than the tools to be used to provide answers. 5. Onomastic reflection within the various domains of the new humanities sometimes confirms their intersection, thus highlighting complementarity and the opportunity for a holistic approach to a given problem.

Opis:: The article analyzes contemporary interest in utopia as a method in the area of the new humanities. The author asks whether nowadays, after the post-critical turn, humanists can afford to use utopia as a method. She also ponders on the attitude that would have to be adopted for this methodology. In this context, she briefly discusses the proposals of Jeffrey C. Alexander, Immanuel Wallerstein and Ruth Levitas, while identifying ethical and methodological problems related to utopian experiments and their limits. Taking into account her methodological findings about utopia as a method, she continues her search through Polish cultural studies, pointing for example to Jan Sowa’s works and broader research trends presented at the 3rd Congress of the Polish Association of Cultural Studies in Poznań. While diagnosing them only as a preliminary phase, she believes they may be the phenomena that herald a turn towards utopia in the Polish humanities.
