Opis:
Aircraft engine failure during different aircraft flight phases can cause accidents or incidents. ICAO Annex 19 requires from each state establishing the state safety program (SSP) and from the subordinate aviation organizations safety management system (SMS). Point 5.2.1 of Annex 19 instructs to establish safety database, which should be used for effective analysis of actual and potential safety deficiencies. Such analysis should lead to determining necessary measures in order to improve safety. Polish Civil Aviation Authority among other databases manages an important one called European Coordination Centre for Aviation Incident Reporting Systems (ECCAIRS). The authors have done a laborious processing of the data contained in that database analysing engine failures based on criteria like phases of flight, ATA chapters concerning powerplant and category of the occurrence. Separately, under consideration were taken engines installed on aircraft with an MTOM <5700 kg (mainly General Aviation) and for aircraft with MTOM > 5700 kg (commercial aviation). The article presents a proposed method of predicting the number of events, the alert levels for the next years and for ATA chapters’ determination, assuming a normal distribution (Gaussian). It is one of the first attempts to use the actual data contained in the database of events in Poland. The results of this analysis can support the decisions of supervisory authorities in the areas where security threats are most important.

Opis:
In the article, light absorption properties of the fuel oil are considered with a view to create basis for establish optical indicator of the type and quality of this kind of crude oil derivative, in this case the Diesel fuel. The organic solvent – n-hexane – was chosen as a solvent to prepare samples of dilutions of Diesel fuel in several oil concentration. Spectrophotometer Aqualog Horiba were applied to record the absorbance spectra in the ultraviolet and visual range of the light (from 240 to 600 nm) for each previously prepared samples. Obtained results allow concluding that the changes of absorbance occur primarily in the wavelength range from 240 nm to 355 nm. Moreover, the absorbance spectra are characterized by the characteristic sharp peak located at 270 nm for excitation wavelength. Spectra of absorbance were converted to spectra of absorption coefficient based on Lambert-Beer law. Due to the independence the absorption coefficient from the fuel concentration, this parameter could be used as a potential indicator to access composition and quality Diesel fuel used in the diesel engine system. Therefore, preliminary tests allow concluding that absorption coefficient for selected wavelength located at 270 nm could be a sensitive indicator for quick access to fuel quality.

Opis:
The important role in the proper functioning of combustion engines plays the quality of lubricates oil. However, the quality of oil changes with the time of exploitation. Therefore, several parameters for examination of oil quality were determined; however, the indicator for quick and efficient tracking of evolution of oil with exploitation time is still searched. Taking into account the complex composition of oils, the ability of oils components to absorb light in various wavelengths is considered. In the article absorption properties of oils is discussed in relation to the time of circulation of oil in the engine lubricate system. For this study, two lubricate oils designated to lubricate the cylinder of vessel engines with different brightness and transparency were used. Oil samples were dissolved in organic solvent –n-hexane and several oil concentration were prepared based on dilution method. Absorbance spectra for eachsamples of oil were registered in the range of wavelength 240-600 nm. Obtained results indicate the changes of value of absorbance in relation to the kind of oil; however, the shape of absorbance spectra is independent from the kind of oil. For studied kinds of oil, characteristic peak independent from the kind of oil located at 260 nm was determined. Based on Lambert-Beer law absorption coefficient was identified as a potential indicator to oil quality evaluation with the time of exploitation in the engine system. Preliminary test for two fresh lubricate oils allow to conclude that absorption coefficient for selected wavelength located at 260 nm could be a sensitive parameter for quick estimating the degree of deterioration of the oil in engine system.

Opis:
The need to limit greenhouse gases emissions and to increase the share of renewable fuels in the general energy balance forces people to look for new alternative energy sources. Methane or biogas, in which methane is the main combustible component, is one of such fuels, which is believed to be a promising diesel engine fuel. It is worth emphasizing that biogas might be believed to be one of the cleanest fuels due to the fact that it can be produced from waste, which in normal conditions decomposes releasing methane into the atmosphere. Methane (biogas) combustion in diesel engines requires a dual-fuel feed system, in which the liquid fuel initiating auto-ignition will be injected into the combustion chamber. It comes as a consequence of a relatively high spontaneous combustion temperature of methane, which is not able to self-ignite in the chamber without an external source of ignition. This article presents a concept of constructing an integrated laboratory control system, which will provide optimal feed control of complex composition gaseous fuel and of the injection of an appropriate pilot dose of a liquid fuel into the combustion chamber. The solution proposed to control a dual-fuel diesel engine, which was mounted on the test bed, enables performing comprehensive diesel engine research, ensuring not only stable working conditions for the engine, but also granting an opportunity to smoothly regulate the composition of the artificial biogas which feeds the engine and to control basic parameters of the liquid fuel pilot dose.

W artykule przedstawiono sposób postępowania umożliwiający przeprowadzenia doboru odpowiednich, bezpiecznych dla pracy silnika poziomów oleju w misce olejowej oraz określenie ich wpływu na parametry pracy silnika. Przeanalizowano również możliwość pracy silnika w przechyłach wzdłużnych i poprzecznych w stosunku do osi pojazdu, w celu określenia zakresu kątów, dla których nastąpi zassanie oleju na stronę dolotową silnika. Ponadto, w oparciu o uzyskane wyniki, podjęto próbę wskazania najbardziej optymalnego poziomu oleju w misce olejowej silnika spalinowego.
In this article the methodology for determining the appropriate volume of oil in the sump and its influence on the operation of the engine is described. Also examined the possibility of operating the engine in the heel and transverse to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, in order to determine the range of angles for which the oil will be sucked towards the inlet of the engine. Further, based on the obtained results, it was attempted to identify the most optimum level of the oil sump of the internal combustion engine.

The following article includes the analysis of mechanical and thermal load criteria of combustion engine. Those criteria have been divided into tribological, technical in detail and technical in general. The above criteria have been related to piston-con-rod system, in which, two tribological centres were specified. One centre included, piston-piston rings and cylinder, in which, piston rings serve as labyrinth seal and the cylinder constitutes piston guides. Crank bearings and main bearings of engine crankshaft constitute the second centre. From the point of tribological view, piston-piston rings and cylinder constitute slide and thrust bearing lubricated hydrodynamically, while crankshaft bearings a-c-t as slide and journal bearings also lubricated hydrodynamically. In the description of thermal load of the above-mentioned tribological centres, special attention was paid to criteria that ensure their motion reliability and durability of engine operation. Whereas in the description of mechanical load of elements constituting investigated centres, some criteria were determined resulting from their functionality and fatigue strength of the material they were made of. Criteria of thermal loads were based on mean density flux of heat conducted through the walls of engine elements, paying attention to their low precision of evaluation. It has been emphasized that synthetic criteria indicators are the most precise. They are determined on the basis of engine load measurements during its operation. Those criteria allow us to describe the operating process of con-rod-piston diesel engines and at the same time it is possible to expose their technical condition which is of essential practical meaning. The wear process of tribological centres that takes place during operating in piston-con-rod system, affects the course of engine working process and its techno-economic indicators.

The far-reaching modifications power systems and ignition automobile engines and aftertreatment improvements achieved significant reduction in toxic emissions. Cooling fluid pump driven mechanically become archaic not allowing the free circulation of fluid control. Also, various temperature levels needed for different cooling processes require controlled three-way valve. The article describes the electronic control currently introduced into the cooling system.

W artykule opisano wybrane problemy napędu pompy cieczy chłodzącej silnika samochodowego. Celem prezentowanego artykułu jest określenie możliwości zmniejszenia mocy potrzebnej do napędu pompy cieczy chłodzącej. W klasycznym i dzisiaj najbardziej rozpowszechnionym układzie chłodzenia cieczą silników samochodowych pompa cieczy chłodzącej jest napędzana przez przekładnię pasową od wału korbowego silnika. W tradycyjnych układach chłodzenia wydajność pompy jest zbyt duża przy wysokich prędkościach obrotowych silnika. Zmniejszenie prędkości obrotowej wirnika pompy jest korzystne ze względu na mniejszy pobór mocy do napędu jak i na unikanie kawitacji przy dużych prędkościach przepływu cieczy. Pełną niezależność wydajności pompy od prędkości obrotowej wału korbowego można osiągnąć tylko stosując dodatkowy silnik elektryczny czy hydrauliczny do napędu pompy. Takie rozwiązania pojawiły się 5 lat temu w silnikach samochodów osobowych a były i są powszechnie stosowane w silnikach okrętowych. Dla zapewnienia bezawaryjnej pracy konieczne jest sterowanie wydajnością pompy w funkcji wybranej łatwo mierzalnej temperatury części silnika na przykład tulei cylindrowej. Mierząc temperaturę tulei cylindrowych autor proponuje obniżenie wydajności pompy dla zmniejszenia mocy potrzebnej do jej napędu. Wśród różnych koncepcji technicznej realizacji zmniejszenia mocy potrzebnej do napędu pompy korzystnie wyróżnia się napęd niezależny z silnikiem elektrycznym. Jest to rozwiązanie najbardziej kosztowne.
Some engine coolant pump drive problems are described in the paper. Presented aim of article is the presentation of possibilities to the decrease of the necessary power to drive the liquid cooling pump. In the classical and today most widespread in the car engines liquid cooling system, the pump of cooling liquid is driven through rubber belt from engine crankshaft. Due to recent applications of the new generation cooling systems, many simulations and engine measurements have to be done. Coolant pump velocity is too big at high engine speeds in traditional cooling systems. The speed decrease of the circulation pump rotor is advantageous, considering the smaller power consumption to pump drive and on the avoidance of cavitation related with the large velocities of liquid flow. The full independence of the pump output from of crankshaft rotational speed is only possible to achieve by applying the additional electric engine or hydraulic drive to power the pump. Such solutions appeared 5 years ago in the personal vehicle engines, but generally they were and are currently used in ship's engines only. For the assurance of a failure-free engine performance, the necessary task is the control of pump output in the function of a selected easily mensurable temperature of the engine parts, for example cylinder liner. Having knowledge of cylinder liner extreme temperature the author proposed lowering coolant pump rotational speed. Among different ideas of a technical realization of the decrease of necessary power to drive the coolant pump, the advantageous and favoured one is the independent pump propulsion with electric engine. This solution is the most expensive one.

Opis:
Modern solutions used in compression-ignition internal combustion engines are quite similar to each other. The use of high-pressure, direct fuel injection results in high combustion rates with controlled exhaust emissions. One of the combustion system quality criteria is to obtain adequately high thermodynamic indicators of the combustion process, which are obtained through, among others, the right combustion chamber geometry. Its shape influences the fuel atomization process, turbulence of fuel dose, evaporation and the combustion process. Optimizing the combustion chamber shape is one of the decisive factors proving the correct execution of the combustion process. This article presents the methodology of choosing the combustion chamber shape (changes of three selected combustion chamber dimensions) by using the optimization methods. Generating multidimensional data while maintaining the correlation structure was performed by using the Latin hypercube method. Chamber optimization was carried out by using the Nelder-Mead method. The combustion chamber shape was optimized for three engine load values (determined by the average indicated pressure) at selected engine operating conditions. The presented method of engine combustion chamber optimization can be used in low and high speed diesel propulsion engines (especially in maritime transport applications).

The multirole F-16 is the most advanced aircraft in the Polish Air Forces. It has been equipped with the very modern, sophisticated and advanced turbofan engine F100-PW-229. Due to the fact, that there is only one engine, its reliability, durability, efficiency and performance are the crucial factors for the safety reasons. In the article author researched maintenance system of the F100 turbofan engines, to describe Engine Monitoring System features. Engine Monitoring System (EMS) is the key element in the engine prognostic and health monitoring. The EMS provides engine fault indicators to the pilots and technicians and with the engine performance trending affects the F-16 flight safety risk and enhanced engine maintenance management concept. The main goal of this article was to provide information on the F-16 Engine Monitoring System and its impact on the aircraft airworthiness and F-16 fleet readiness resulting from the engine reliability. It is also an introduction to the F-16 Engine Health Management concept.

Effective and efficient maintenance is essential to ensure reliability of a ship's main propulsion system, which in turn is interdependent on the reliability of a number of associated sub- systems. A primary step in evaluating the reliability of the ship's propulsion system will be to evaluate the reliability of each of the sub- system. This paper discusses the methodology adopted to quantify reliability of one of the vital sub-system viz. the lubricating oil system, and development of a model, based on Markov analysis thereof. Having developed the model, means to improve reliability of the system should be considered. The cost of the incremental reliability should be measured to evaluate cost benefits. A maintenance plan can then be devised to achieve the higher level of reliability. Similar approach could be considered to evaluate the reliability of all other sub-systems. This will finally lead to development of a model to evaluate and improve the reliability of the main propulsion system.

The use of alternative fuels and, in the future, synthetic fuels has forced changes in the design of fuel supply systems in internal combustion engines. When operating a stationary engine at constant load, the possibility of using lean fuel mixtures appears. The selection of a precise operating mixture ignition system requires changes in traditional fuel systems. The article presents the current designs of fuel supply systems and their properties. Attention was paid to operating parameters resulting in acceptable emissions of toxic exhaust gas components.

W artykule scharakteryzowano układy rozruchowe silników spalinowych i warunki ich pracy. Omówiono tradycyjne stacjonarne charakterystyki pracy akumulatora kwasowego i rozrusznika elektrycznego. Przedstawiono modele strukturalne funkcjonalnych elementów składowych układu rozruchowego: akumulatora i rozrusznika jako klasyczne obwody elektryczne z typowymi elementami RLC. Zapisano równania pracy elementów struktury w warunkach dynamicznych i przedstawiono ich rozwiązania i uzyskane charakterystyki. Przedstawiono wyniki badań funkcjonowania układu rozruchowego i jego elementów, akumulatora i rozrusznika w warunkach stanowiskowych i podczas napędzania wału korbowego silnika, wskazujące zachowanie i przebieg parametrów pracy w warunkach dynamicznych.
The article describes the starting systems of combustion engines and the conditions of their operation. Traditional stationary characteristics of the acid battery and the electric starter were discussed. Structural models of functional components of the starter system: battery and starter are presented as classic electrical circuits with typical RLC elements. The equations of structural components operation in dynamic conditions were formulated and their solutions and characteristics were presented. The results of tests of the functioning of the starting system and its components, battery and starter in the test stand conditions and while driving the crankshaft of the engine, showing the behaviour and the course of work parameters under dynamic conditions are presented.

W artykule przedstawiono numeryczną metodę oceny wpływu oporów filtra powietrza na napełnienie cylindrów silnika spalinowego. Opisane zostały główne założenia modelowe i krótki opis modelu. Przedstawiono podstawowe możliwości opracowanego modelu. Wybrane filtry powietrza oceniane były na podstawie wartości współczynników napełnienia silnika przy zastosowaniu danego filtra. Wyniki symulacji przedstawione zostały w formie charakterystyk masy powietrza pozostającego w cylindrze po zamknięciu zaworu dolotowego i ciśnienia w cylindrze. Przedstawiono również wyniki badań hamownianych silnika 359 z wybranymi filtrami.
The paper presents a numerical method for evaluating the impact of air filter resistance on the fluid mass aspirated during the suction stroke of the internal combustion engine. Main model assumptions, its description and capabilities were specified. Filters were rated based on the cylinder volumetric efficiency. Simulation results were presented as characteristics of incylinder mass after the intake valve closure and charge pressure progress.

Przedstawiono wybrane wyniki testowe mające na celu sprawdzenie poprawności kształtu obiektu, siatki obliczeniowej jak i doboru warunków brzegowych oraz algorytmu rozwiązania. W wyniku analizy numerycznej uzyskano wir wlotowy. Dokonano analizy wpływu zmiany prędkości, kąta i kierunku podmuchu strumienia na powstanie wiru wlotowego. Przedstawiono konsekwencje zasysania ciał obcych przez układ wlotowy i dane statystyczne dotyczące uszkodzeń silników turbinowych.
The paper presents selected problems on building complex object which is the virtual model of intake conduit for the turbofan jet engine for the needs of numerical analysis of inlet vortex phenomenon. The process of discretization in selected problem was described and a few hints and guidelines for preparing and performing the process of computational area discretization were contained. Selected results of the numerical test results with the purpose of examining the accurateness of object's shape and selected computational grid, chosen boundary conditions and algorithm of solution were presented. As a result of numerical analysis the inlet vortex has been obtained. The impact of changes in speed, angle and direction of the blast stream at the inlet vortex formation was analysed. The consequences of intake of foreign bodies through the intake system and damage statistics on turbofan jet engines are presented.

W artykule scharakteryzowano zasadę działania rozrusznika elektrycznego układu rozruchowego silnika spalinowego. Omówiono podstawowe procesy i zależności je charakteryzujące i uzasadniono charakterystyki pracy rozrusznika. Scharakteryzowano stanowisko do badań rozrusznika pozwalające na badanie jego charakterystyk i stanu technicznego przy zasilaniu za pomocą akumulatora i hamowaniu za pomocą hamulca elektrowirowego i ciernego. Stanowiska umożliwia także badanie charakterystyk pracy akumulatora w warunkach zasilania rozrusznika przy stałym jego obciążeniu. Przedstawiono wyniki badań funkcjonowania układu rozruchowego i jego elementów, akumulatora i rozrusznika w warunkach stanowiskowych i podczas napędzania wału korbowego silnika. Wskazano możliwości wykorzystania sygnałów napędzania wału korbowego jako sygnałów diagnostycznych stanu akumulatora, rozrusznika i silnika spalinowego. Omówiono sygnały rejestrowane podczas napędzania wału korbowego silnika przez rozrusznik.
The article describes the principle of operation of the electric starter of the starting system of the internal combustion engine. Basic processes and dependencies were described, and the characteristics of the starter's work were discussed. The station for the starter testing, allowing the examination of its characteristics and technical condition when powered by a battery and braking by means of an electro-spin and friction brake, was characterized. The station also allows testing the battery operation characteristics in the conditions of the starter power supply at its constant load. The results of tests of the functioning of the starting system and its components, the battery and the starter in the stationary conditions and while driving the engine crankshaft are presented. The possibilities of using the crankshaft driving signals as diagnostic signals of the state of the battery, starter and combustion engine are indicated. The signals recorded while driving the engine crankshaft by the starter were discussed.

Comprehensive testing of diesel engines currently requires not only a control system for the feeding system of the engine, but also a system ensuring precise control of its load and providing constant measurement conditions. Additionally, it is necessary during the tests to record a considerable number of operating parameters of both the engine and the loading system. The currently available stands for diesel engine tests, the so-called “engine test beds”, are standardly-equipped with special systems controlled using computer applications to ensure the maintenance of the assumed engine operation parameters. For compression-ignition engines, this most often takes place by control of the accelerator pedal position. In this solution, the engine is controlled by the engine controller, which controls the fuel charge based on the measurement of the rotational speed and the accelerator pedal position depending on the assumed control algorithm. The shortcoming of this solution is no possibility of controlling selected fuel feeding parameters, such as fuel pressure or the injection advance angle. This paper presents preliminary tests on an integrated control system for both engine load and the parameters of fuel fed to a compression-ignition engine. The developed control system enables engine test bed control, which, depending on the measurement variant, ensures the maintenance of a constant rotational speed or a constant engine load as well as control of the Common Rail system actuators.

Początkowo były to produkcje o dość prostym wyglądzie i rozgrywce lecz wraz z postępem technologicznym stawały się coraz bardziej rozbudowane oraz wymagające. Ponadto projekty, które wiele lat temu były tworzone tylko przez doświadczonych programistów, teraz mogą być napisane przez praktycznie każdego. Wszystko dzięki upowszechnieniu się gier wideo oraz narzędzi do ich tworzenia. Jednym z takich narzędzi jest silnik Unity, który można pobrać oraz użytkować za darmo. Jest to jeden z jego największych atutów oraz dzięki swojej popularności programista, ma dostęp do wielu wtyczek, które mogą przyśpieszyć tworzenie projektu. Silnik współpracuje z różnymi programami, takimi jak na przykład aplikacja Blender, która pozwala na między innymi tworzenie modeli, animacji czy efektów wizualnych. Celem niniejszej pracy jest stworzenie gry z turowym systemem walki. Tworzony projekt powinien dać możliwość graczowi na poruszanie postacią po wcześniej stworzonym świecie. Oprócz tego powinien także rozpoczynać turową walkę z przeciwnikiem i zakończyć ją wygrywając lub przegrywając. Dodatkowo na ekranie powinny być wyświetlane odpowiednie informacje oraz interfejs użytkownika powinien być prosty w obsłudze. Na początku zostanie wyjaśnione co to są gry wideo oraz pokrótce będzie przedstawiona historia gatunku gier JRPG do którego należy tworzony projekt. Następnie opisane zostaną trzy przykładowe produkcje, ma to na celu pokazanie jak taki system może wyglądać oraz pokazać zalety i wady takich rozwiązań. W kolejnych punktach podana zostanie definicja silnika gier, z jakich elementów się on składa oraz krótki opis wykorzystanych technologii. W przedostatnim rozdziale zostaną pokazane zrzuty ekranów stworzonych modeli przy pomocy programu Blender. Na koniec opisana zostanie implementacja projektu wraz dostępnymi funkcjonalnościami.
Video games are very young type of spending free time compared to music or movies. At the beginning these projects had very simple design and basic gameplay. Also they were created only by advanced programmers but now they may be made by anyone. This all is possible because video games and tools that can make them became more popular. 
 One of this tool is game engine Unity, which everyone can download for free. It’s one of the best feature of this tool and because of it’s popularity developer has access to many plugins that can speed up the process of making a new project. This game engine also works with other applications like for example Blender, in which user is able to create models, animation and special effects. 
 Main task of this project is to create video game with turn based system. Player should be able to move main character around the previously created world map. User should also start a turn based battle with enemy and finish it winning or losing. Game should also present all informations on the screen and user interface should be easy to use. At the beginning there will be explanation what is video game and shortly about history of JRPG games. Then three video games will be presented to show how turn based system could looks like, also to check their advantages and disadvantages. After that there will be description about game engine, it’s components and shortly about technologies that were used in this project. 
At the end the screenshots of the models created using Blender application will be presented. And then the implementation of the project will be shown with the description and code listings.

W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienie oceny stanu granicznego oleju silnikowego w eksploatacji. Dokonano analizy stanu granicznego obiektu technicznego przyjmując, że olej silnikowy stanowi element systemu tribologicznego. Wyznaczono graniczne parametry stanu oleju i porównano je z wartościami charakteryzującymi stan w eksploatacji. Na tej podstawie określono stan niezawodnościowy oleju w chwili jego wymiany w silniku.
In this article, the problem of the border state of the engine oil during operation has been presented. An analysis of the condition of the technical object was made assuming that the engine oil is part of the tribological system. Limit values were determined and compared with the values characterizing the condition of the oil in operation. On this basis, the reliability of the oil was determined at the point of time when the oil in the engine is being changed.

The article presents complexity of the problem concerning development of diagnosis with defined reliability by a diagnosing system (SDG) on technical condition of marine combustion engines, especially main engines. It was shown that development of the final diagnosis, the so-called initial operation diagnosis, on the operational usability (fDG on PEx) of a main engine in particular, is not possible without prior development of reliable diagnoses such as: diagnosis on correctness of diagnostic signals, diagnosis on correctness of values of the measured diagnostic parameters of an engine (DG on pWM), diagnosis on technical condition of an engine (DG on ST) and initial diagnosis on operational usability of an engine (wDG on PEx), the so-called initial operation diagnosis. Difficulties in development of the diagnoses were emphasized herein due to the fact that the process of acquisition of information needed to develop diagnoses with certain reliability or accuracy is a two-dimensional stochastic process with components: B(t) – being considered during operation (use) of SDG (at so-called long time - quasistatic) and C(ʋ) – being considered while measuring diagnostic parameters and diagnostic inference (at so-called short time - dynamic). The need to determine reliability or accuracy rate of each diagnosis in the form of conditional probability P(S/K) was also indicated, where S – technical state of the engine and K – vector of values of diagnostic parameters reflecting state S. Diagnostic status of marine engine as a diagnosed system (SDN) was characterized in general, on the example of an engine operation process with regards to input (X), output (Y), constant (C) and interference (Z) values. Also there was explained how to understand the terms: diagnostic test, signal inference, measurement inference, structure inference and operation inference, and how inductive inference can be used to verify, for example, the hypothesis H on engine state S when vector K of values of engine diagnostic parameters is observed.

Maritime transportation is the essence of international economy. Today, around ninety percent of world trade happens by maritime transportation via 50,000 merchant ships. These ships transport various types of cargo and manned by over a million mariners around the world. Majority of these ships are propelled by marine diesel engines, hereafter referred to as main engine, due to its reliability and fuel efficiency. Yet numerous accidents take place due to failure of main engine at sea, the main cause of this being inappropriate maintenance plan. To arrive at an optimal maintenance plan, it is necessary to assess the reliability of the main engine. At present the main engine on board vessels have a Planned Maintenance System (PMS), designed by the ship management companies, considering, advise of the engine manufacturers and/or ship’s chief engineers and masters. Following PMS amounts to carrying out maintenance of a main engine components at specified running hours, without taking into consideration the assessment of the health of the component/s in question. Furthermore, shipping companies have a limited technical ability to record the data properly and use them effectively. In this study, relevant data collected from various sources are analysed to identify the most appropriate failure model representing specific component. The data collected, and model developed will be very useful to assess the reliability of the marine engines and to plan the maintenance activities on-board the ship. This could lead to a decrease in the failure of marine engine, ultimately contributing to the reduction of accidents in the shipping industry.

Opis:
The purpose of the investigation was the application of two turbochargers system in spark ignition engine and determining turbochargers' work parameters depending on throttle opening and engine's rotation speed. System with small turbocharger and larger variable geometry turbocharger in parallel connection (three-stage turbocharging) was examined. The engine used during the investigation was 1300 cm displacement SI engine with modified intake and exhaust manifolds. Intake and exhaust manifold modification including only implementation of turbochargers and sensors was done for experimental purposes. Specific values of maximum boost pressure were obtained by introducing a waste gate valve system with appropriate characteristic. Proper choice concerning work parameters of the charging system allows to improve torque characteristic in wide range of engine's rotation speed. The system with additional small turbocharger allowed to increase torque value in low engine's speed range as well as to increase boost pressure in high engine's speed range for throttle opening angle values above 50 %. In medium engine's speed range the best results were given by variable geometry turbocharger. The two turbochargers system and values of maximum boost pressure were controlled by the system with two waste gate valves. Improving total efficiency was obtained in medium engine's speed range. The application of two turbochargers system as modification of naturally aspirated spark ignition engine allows to improve torque flexibility rate. There is a possibility to apply the charging system with two turbochargers, with boost pressure control system, in already existing, naturally aspirated engine without decreasing compression ratio and modifying engine's control system.

The article demonstrates a rational scheme of the supercharging system in a helicopter diesel engine with a power of 100 kW, regardless of the flight altitude, and proposes a method for assessing the power losses for a diesel engine depending on the flight altitude using a mathematical model. There are three variants of an engine supercharger scheme with a single-stage turbocharger, a two-stage one with parallel or sequential compressor drive and a turbo-blower. As a result of the computational analysis according to the original method, it was shown that from the point of view of the least energy consumption two-stage scheme with a compressor and a sequential drive is the most rational. To reduce energy losses in the drive with two-stage supercharging, a concept for controlling the pressure system was proposed, which includes changing the rotational speed of the compressor drive and adjusting the throttles. Simulation of the engines running during the climb/descent of the helicopter showed that the proposed pressure scheme and control concept is effective. In order to improve the quality of regulation, the possibility to use an electric drive with the first stage compressor is being considered.

The paper presents the conception of knowledge management system for a diagnostic expert system. Development of knowledge management system is necessary during the construction of the expert system. The most important reason is that knowledge in this system is not a static whole, but is subject to dynamic growth, is modified and updated. Advantages afforded by the creation of diagnostic systems based on knowledge, such as expert systems, compared to traditional diagnostic systems based on closed algorithms were characterized. The conception of knowledge management system established in the diagnostic work associated with the development of expert system for marine diesel engine diagnosis. The main elements of the developed management system are: dictionary editor, rule editor, knowledge assessment module and import and export module. Knowledge management system is also equipped with an electronic form that is used to obtain knowledge from experts, specialists in diesel engines operation. The article presents the tasks and the performance of individual components of the system. The knowledge management system enables integration within a single frame of both information collected from experts and automatically collected one. A doubtless advantage of expert system is the opportunity of updating and developing the content recorded in the database. Due to this feature, the effectiveness of the system may grow during engine operation and facilitate gaining new experience.

The paper presents the methods and results of calculation of time necessary for transmission of a jet of stratified charge from the injector to the gap between the electrodes of the ignition plug, which is the basis for determination of the advance angle of fuel injection in relation to the advance angle of ignition. This time is the sum of duration of four phases of load jet way and is calculated basing upon a number of empiric formulae taken from recent publications. Constructors of gasoline engines are faced with higher and higher requirements as regards ecological problems and increase in engine efficiency at a simultaneous decrease in fuel consumption. Satisfaction of these requirements is possible due to recognition of the phenomena occurring inside the engine cylinder, choice of suitable optimal parameters of the fuel injection process, and determination of geometrical shapes of the combustion chamber and piston head. Increase of engine efficiency is connected, first of all, with the changes in fuel supply, it means a proper regulation of fuel - air mixture in dependence on the rotational speed and load; hence, combustion of stratified mixtures in a gasoline engines with direct fuel injection is essential for increase in efficiency with a simultaneous decrease in emission of toxic components of exhaust gases and fuel consumption. Such a kind of supply systems show that, apart from combustion of very lean mixtures a gasoline engine with direct fuel injection possesses many other advantages, i.e.: fuel consumption comparable with other engines with self - induced ignition, greater power than in other spark ignition engines with multi - point fuel injection. The results of the performed analysis were given in two-dimensional diagrams.

One of the most important elements influencing the functioning of internal combustion engines is the intake system, whose task is to supplycold, fresh and filtered air to the combustion chambers of the engine. So far, the capacity tests of the intake system have focused on the appropriate selection of its geometry and diameter, which had a direct impact on the airflow rate, and thus on the performance of the vehicle. In this article, the focus is on conducting research consisting of placing the airflow restriction element in a specific locationin the intake system of a naturally aspirated spark-ignition engine. After the necessary preparations, authors made measurements of the engine performance (power and torque) and airflow rate in the intake systemvia original MAF sensor mounted in intake system and Chassis Dynamometer Interface via OBD protocol. After the engine parameters were measured, the test results were compared with the reference characteristics obtained during the measurements prior to the modification of the stock intake system. The article is crowned by conclusions based on the results of the measurements.

Opis:
The development of an engine air filter is based on filter performance requirements, vehicle 's operational environment, available space, filter media properties, and production technology. The design process includes analyses of theoretical and empirical models describing filter media performance and aerosol flow in filter housings and through filter elements. Filter media are carefully selected based upon these models and simplified laboratory tests. The filter element design is evaluated in great detail through a series of laboratory and field experiments. The role of the engine air induction system has increased because of recent engine exhaust particulate and evaporative emission regulations. Engine lifetime, engine emission and fuel consumption depend on the air induction system design and its performance. Providing optimized solutions for these requirements dictates filter development trends. This drives the need for smaller, more compact filters and more efficient filter media with higher permeability. The efficiency can be drastically improved by applying a layer of nanofibers to a cellulose or synthetic substrate. The ISO fractional efficiency test method, that in its final stage of development, can clearly show the advantage of nanofiber filter media. This paper discusses air cleaner design including the newest in-line reduced volume air cleaners and the role of nanofiber filter media in engine air filtration.

W artykule omówiono wyniki badań indykatorowych nieustalonych warunków pracy silnika spalinowego pracującego z wykorzystaniem obiegu Atkinsona. Warunki takie w znacznym stopniu odpowiadają za pracę jednostki napędowej i stanowią obecnie jeden z głównych kierunków prac badawczych. Badania wykonano wykorzystując układ do akwizycji sygnałów szybkozmiennych z wykorzystaniem czujników prędkości obrotowej wału korbowego oraz czujnika ciśnienia zamontowanego w świecy zapłonowej. Analizę wykonano w warunkach rozruchu silnika, a także podczas zmiany prędkości obrotowych przy zróżnicowanych obciążeniach. Określono podstawowe termodynamiczne wskaźniki procesu w warunkach nieustalonych i zestawiono je ze wskaźnikami wynikającymi z warunków ustalonych.
The paper discusses the results of indicator research of transient states of an engine operating in the Atkinson cycle. Such states are the most frequently observable ones during engine operation and are a subject of many research and development works. The investigations were carried out using a fast varying data acquisition system using engine speed sensor and the pressure sensors fitted in the spark plug. The analysis was performed under the conditions of engine start and its changing speeds at different loads. The basic thermodynamic indexes of the process under transient states were determined and compared with the indexes obtained under steady states.

Przedstawiono wymagania prawne odnośnie pozadrogowych maszyn roboczych z napędem spalinowym oraz odniesiono się do wymagań stawianych pojazdom z napędem spalinowym, przeznaczonym do pracy w podziemiach kopalń, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem stref zagrożonych wybuchem metanu i/lub pyłu węglowego. Scharakteryzowano źródła potencjalnych zagrożeń oraz przewidywany sposób ich neutralizacji w procesie dostosowania silnika spalinowego do wymogów prawnych.
Problems associated with commercialization and safe use of the machine equipped with diesel engine with common rail system are presented. Legal requirements regarding the machines with diesel drive, which operate off the roads, are given and referred to the requirements for vehicles with diesel drive designed for operation in mine undergrounds, with special attention paid to the areas threatened by methane and/or coal dust explosion hazard. Sources of potential hazards and planned method for their elimination by adaptation of diesel engine to the legal requirements are characterized.

The problem of engine oils and lubrication systems of marine diesel engines is an important issue in operation of engines. When considering the problems of exploitation of machines and devices, the lubricating oils are treated as one of the part of engine design, which should perform the functions: control friction between load-bearing surfaces, limit the temperature by carrying away heat from fluid fraction and fuel combustion, reduce corrosion etc. – general protect engine parts. The knowledge of the properties lubricating oils allows for proper selection them for the engine and correct use. During operation, the oil subjects' irreversible process of oil deterioration and it cannot properly fulfil their functions. Therefore important are frequent periodic checks of oil, it means monitoring. The state of the lubricating oil can be characterized by parameters such as viscosity, total base number, acid value, lubricating ability, flash point etc. Changes on these parameters of engine oil during exploitation, cause problems in fulfilling the primary functions of the oil. The target of the paper was the analysis and estimate of properties of trunk piston engine oil – Marinol RG 1240 after various times overwork on the sailing vessel “Dar Młodzieży” on the engine Cegielski-Sulzer 6AL20/24. The results were compared with the values critical and preventive limits and proposed several corrective actions for users the engine 6AL20/24.

Opis:
The article demonstrates a rational scheme of the supercharging system in a helicopter diesel engine with a power of 100 kW, regardless of the flight altitude, and proposes a method for assessing the power losses for a diesel engine depending on the flight altitude using a mathematical model. There are three variants of an engine supercharger scheme with a single-stage turbocharger, a two-stage one with parallel or sequential compressor drive and a turbo-blower. As a result of the computational analysis according to the original method, it was shown that from the point of view of the least energy consumption two-stage scheme with a compressor and a sequential drive is the most rational. To reduce energy losses in the drive with two-stage supercharging, a concept for controlling the pressure system was proposed, which includes changing the rotational speed of the compressor drive and adjusting the throttles. Simulation of the engines running during the climb/descent of the helicopter showed that the proposed pressure scheme and control concept is effective. In order to improve the quality of regulation, the possibility to use an electric drive with the first stage compressor is being considered.

Rozwój bezzałogowych statków powietrznych ukierunkowany jest na sprostanie wielu wymagań związanych z nowymi funkcjami zastosowania. Jednym z nich jest uzyskanie możliwie długiego czasu wykonywanej operacji lotniczej. Realizacja tego zadania ściśle wiąże się z konstrukcją płatowca oraz konstrukcją układu napędowego. W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienia oceny możliwości doboru hybrydowego układu napędowego przeznaczonego do zastosowania w bezzałogowym statku powietrznym. Wybrano napęd śmigłowy złożony z silnika elektrycznego oraz spalinowego, stanowiącego źródło zasilania akumulatorów. W celu doboru silnika spalinowego określono zapotrzebowanie na moc potrzebną do zasilania napędu śmigłowego. Na podstawie badań wykreślono charakterystyki pracy wybranych napędów, które wykorzystano do opracowania wariantów hybrydowego układu napędowego.
The development of unmanned aerial vehicles is focused on imposed requirements for new field of application this type of aircraft. One of them is possibility to perform of the air operation in the long term. This task is closely associated with the design of the airframe of an aircraft and the propulsion system. The paper presents the evaluation of the possibility of selecting the hybrid propulsion system for the unmanned aerial vehicle. A propeller drive consisting of an electric engine and a internal combustion engine to charging the batteries was chosen. In order to select the internal combustion engine was determined of requirements for engine power needed to power a propeller drive. On the basis of research were plotted performance characteristics for the selected engines, which were used to develop of variants of the hybrid drive system.

W artykule przedstawiono model spalania wodoru w silniku Wankla z wykorzystaniem systemu AVL FIRE. Z przeprowadzonych symulacji otrzymano rozkłady temperatury oraz stopnia wypalenia ładunku na powierzchni komory spalania oraz w przekrojach charakterystycznych. Przeprowadzono także analizę emisji składników toksycznych spalin dla różnych wartości współczynnika nadmiaru powietrza.
The article presents a hydrogen combustion model in the Wankel engine using AVL Fire system. The simulations obtained temperature distributions and burning charge degree on the surface and in the characteristic cross- section of the combustion chamber. The analysis of toxic exhaust emission components for various values of the λ coefficient was also made.

This paper deals with electric compensation servo system which serves as an upgrade for existing turbocharger vacuum pressure regulation, particularly for low-volume engines. Proposed servosystem is suitable for variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) or variable nozzle turbocharger (VNT). Servo system comprises from control unit which is attached to the signal conditioner and to the microprocessor. The microprocessor controls the servo drive through the output amplifier and servo drive is mechanically connected to the turbocharger. Advantage of this upgrade is in better response to torque requirements from driver, especially in low engine speed.
W pracy przedstawiono możliwość wymiany standardowego siłownika próżniowego dla siłownika o zmiennej dyszy / geometrii za pomocą elektrycznego serwomechanizmu za pomocą mikroprocesora. Korzystanie z tego serwosu w nowym algorytmie sterowania zmniejsza emisje z silnika, zwiększa moc silnika i eliminuje siłownik podciśnieniowy. Inną zaletą tego systemu jest wyeliminowanie źródła ujemnego ciśnienia z systemu turbodoładowania (proponowany serwoster jest zasilany standardową siecią 12V). Jedyną wadą proponowanego elektrycznego serwosysu jest konieczność kalibracji pomiędzy systemem sterowania (mikroprocesorem) a turbosprężarką.

Ecological aspects and utilization of biomass as a fuel leads to applying of a closed work cycle in the piston engine. It forces usually to delivering of heat to working medium through a heat exchanger. The heat may get from any type of fuel in an external combustion chamber, which allows on precisely control of combustion process. The paper describes a new conception of the engine operating in two-stroke cycle with working medium being in the close system, the best with the perfect gas as argon or helium. The delivering process of working medium with high temperature from the heat exchanger takes place through the inlet valve during a few dozen degrees of CA rotation in piston position at TDC. Expansion stroke takes place until outlet valve opens shortly BBDC. The outlet period from the cylinder follows almost at constant pressure and at low temperature to an adiabatic chamber, from where the working medium is compressed by an adiabatic compressor to pressure near pressure being in the heat exchanger. The engine works in two-stroke cycle and enables to get low temperature and pressure as early as BDC through a long time of opening of the outlet valve. The paper presents the ideological scheme of the engine system and theoretical thermal cycle. On this basis one presents the theoretical description of the individual thermodynamic processes with determination of thermal parameters of the characteristic points of the cycle. This article determines also the thermal efficiency of such closed cycle. The presented engine may have a practical applying as a stationary engine in energetic systems, where as fuel may be biomass, which globally influences on decreasing of CO2 and NOx by temperature control of the combustion process

The subject of the analysis presented in the paper is the idea and implementation method of the ignition point of homogeneous air-fuel mixture, used in the IC engine with HCCI system. Autoignition of the combustible mixture can occur only upon reaching the characteristic self-ignition temperature Tz. It should take place during (near end) the load compression. In order to achieve the fuel mixture ignition temperature Tz in the system, usually it is proposed adjusting the engine compression ratio, epsilon. However, it is quite cumbersome especially in case of frequent changes of engine load (there are also difficulties with the precise advance angle adjusting of fuel mixture ignition). According to our conception, the other method of autoignition adjustment can be successfully applied. The essence of the new idea consists in proper selection, according to engine load, of the exponent k of charge polytropic compression. Introducing the defined dose of monoatomic gas (e.g. argon Ar,k almost equal 1.667) to air-fuel mixture, the higher values of the polytropic compression exponent .. of working medium can be achieved. It will result in significant increase of the temperature rise Delta Tmax of the compressed charge and accordingly progressive increase of the advance angle of the mixture ignition.

The development of a catalytic converter required an analysis of selected physical parameters of the supports. This resulted from the necessity to assume given parameters of the supports applied in the tests in exhaust gas environment in the CI engines. An analysis of ionic conductors, which constitutes the basic solution in voltage sensors providing signals through NOx electrocatalysis, is presented. The aim of this paper is to determine the basis for the monitoring of catalytic converters in compression ignition engines by the emission level of a selected exhaust gas component as a diagnostic signal. The emission of NOx has been taken as the basis. This required the development of a specialized system allowing the reduction of NOx and obtaining of a diagnostic signal reflecting the level of the said reduction. This paper includes same results of testing and possibilities monitoring of prototype catalytic converter on the test bed. On the basis of the performed examinations and obtained test results the following conclusions can be drawn: the analysis of the NOx concentrations in exhaust gas from the compression-ignition engine can be based on the indications of the voltage probes with the modified electrodes of the oxygen pump, the application of the reduction conditions in the voltage probes using the nitrogen oxides reduction by the electro-catalytic way depends on the exhaust gas parameters, the values of which change depending on the rotational crankshaft speed and engine load, and for this reason obtaining the diagnostic signal for the whole engine operation range is impossible, the control of the correctness of the catalyst operation regarding the nitrogen oxides reduction can be realised for the defined operating parameters of the tested engine, for phases VIII and X of the ESC test the reheating the test probe installed before the catalyst was unnecessary, owing to the high exhaust gas temperature (737-759°C).

The main aim of the study was to experimentally determine the influence of fuel blends of F-34 with biocomponents (rapeseed methyl esters and methyl alcohol) on the performance of an engine with high pressure fuel injection; Common Rail system was used as the example. The study included measurements of useful parameters of combustion and composition of exhaust gas. The studied engine was Renault G9T engine with Common Rail fuel system, fed with the following fuels: fuel base (diesel oil); aviation fuel, code NATO F-34; fuel blends of F-34 and rapeseed methyl esters of higher fatty acids; fuel blends of F-34 and anhydrous ethyl alcohol. The study showed that the parameters of Renault G9T engine with high pressure injection system fed with fuel blends of F-34 with biocomponents changed in comparison to those obtained with the use of the fuel base: diesel oil. As a result of the study it must be stated that fuel blends of F-34 with RME and F-34 with ethyl alcohol can be used as alternative fuel for diesel engines with high pressure Common Rail injection system.

The article presents a concept of an expert diagnostic system of the turbine engine’s flow path (compressor – combustion chamber – turbine) elements. The system adopts diagnostic signals obtained with the use of non-destructive methods implemented on the non-operating engine. The aim is to detect and assess early stages of damage to selected elements of the engine. The achievement of a reliable diagnosis on the condition of the elements requires the application of a set of diagnostic methods and carrying out the inference, including knowledge about the degradation processes of elements and correlation of the diagnostic (signals) tests results obtained with various methods. A convenient tool, which supports solution of such a set problem is an expert system, which on the one hand, makes it possible to organise the existing formal knowledge, and on the other hand – to use non-formal, or even uncertain, knowledge. The presented concept of the expert diagnostic system is based on PC-Shell system of AITECH Polish Company.

Within the framework of the basic research task funded by the Agency for support of research and development we solve a problem of a more effective non-conventional usage of the part of energy taken away by the ICE cooling system. The energy is used for production of cold. Results ofpartial solutions and methodology of energetic evaluation have been already presented in various conferences and symposia as well as published in several professional journals. This contribution brings some newly acquired theoretical and practical experience gathered during the operation of a test laboratory sample of the cooling engine in a non-conventional energetic unit. Experiments were focused on temperature mapping. The basic scheme of a non-conventional energetic unit with a cooling engine, the view of a functional laboratory sample, surface temperature in the vicinity of evaporator - taken by thermal imaging, time course of changes in the engine torque, revolutions and temperature on the engine, temperatures in the evaporator, temperatures in the liquefier, temperatures in the absorber, temperatures in the evaporator, temperatures in the VBR exchanger are presented in the paper. The results of the experiment shown that there is a 10 - 15 % agreement with the results acquired through calculations. Theoretical assumptions and solutions carried out for the alternative cooling liquid of the cooling engine in a non-conventional energetic unit can be considered real. Within the framework of this consideration a test circuit is being prepared for experiments with alternative cooler.

This article analyses the influence of various configurations concerning the homogenisation system on the output parameters of an experimental engine. The results presented in this article were obtained using experimental dynamometric measurement. A modular approach to the individual measurements consists of a sequential formation of the homogenisation system configurations. The experimentally obtained results are matches with the analytical relations, which are described in the related literature. These results can be presented for a wide spectrum of high-powerful engines because the homogenisation system does not depend on the construction and design arrangement of the engine itself. The analysed system was successfully applied in the motorcycles and it is a subject of the patent application.

The purpose of this paper is to present the results of a query aimed at assessing the validity of the topic of crankcase explosions prevention in the main marine engines. The study takes into account the engine type, engine manufacturer, ship’s age, accident severity, ship’s location at the time of the incident, and the share of fatal accidents in the analyzed population of crankcase explosions. One of the primary hazards associated with offshore and deep-sea ship operations – and primarily ship power plants – are fires and explosions that result in accidents and incidents with an average frequency of 60 days. This paper discusses the actuality of crankcase explosion hazards in the main propulsion engines of various types of sea vessels. The assessment was made based on the results of a statistical analysis of historical data from 1972 to 2018. The methodology consisted of three stages: (1) a selection query to obtain the source data, (2) analysis of the obtained results (data separation, extraction of additional information, and statistical analysis), (3) synthesis of the obtained information, and drawing conclusions about the numerical indicators describing the statistical distribution of individual events for the given evaluation criteria. The analysis showed that the risk of crankcase explosions affects ships of all ages – both in crosshead (31%) and trunk piston engines (61%) – and that the number of serious incidents (67%) remained constant over the investigated period. Half of all incidents occurred on vessels younger than 15 years old. 58% of explosions took place in engines of the most popular prime movers manufacturers. The probability that a main engine crankcase explosion will result in injury or death is 17.34%.

The pursuit of reduced greenhouse gas emissions, as well as the increased share of renewable fuels in the overall energy balance has led to a search for alternative energy sources. One of the fuels on which great hopes are set as fuel for engines is biomethane or biogas, whose main component is methane. Biogas can be obtained from different products by using different technologies, so that it has potential as a widelyavailable fuel, which is quite easy to produce. The percentage of methane in biogas depends on the technology for obtaining biogas and ranges from 35% to around 75%. The largest biogas sources can be animal farms, where it is obtained from animal excrement. Another source is sewage treatment plants and rubbish dumps, where substantial quantities of biogas are obtained as a result of natural processes occurring in waste dumping sites or sewage. Biogas can also be acquired from waste obtained from fruit and vegetable processing as well as waste from meat plants. This paper examines the possibility of using biogas as a fuel for diesel engines. In these engines, the combustion of biogas (methane) requires the application of a dual-fuel supply system in which liquid fuel initiating gas fuel selfignition will be injected into the combustion chamber along with methane. The paper also contains example results showing the effect of the methane dose on the course of the combustion process in diesel engines.

Problems of the power supply in military vehicles grow with the growing number of vehicles in armies. Moreover, biocomponents additions which are added to the basic fuels change its properties. Therefore undertaking work to adopt engines to supply them with fuels coming from renewable sources is essential. The purpose of that research is indicating the influence of fuel feeding system on useful parameters and composition of exhaust exhaust gases of self-igniting engine Renault G9T with high pressure injection mechanism „Common Rail. The researches were conducted while the engine was supplied with six kind of the fuel: basic fuel which was diesel oil, aviation fuel coded NATO F-34, fuel mixtures: F-34 methyl esters of higher fatty acids from rapeseed oil. In the result, it can be stated that the achievements of the engine Renault G9T with high pressure injection system feed with F-34 fuel and mixtures have hanged partly. Conducted examination has showed the essential influence between the fuel and performance of Renault G7T engine with high-pressure injection system feed with F-34 fuel mixtures with methyl esters of higher fatty acids. The increase of EMKOR share in F-34 fuel caused the decrease of useful power, increase of fuel consumption and decrease of combustion smoke.

The statistics invariably show that most onboard fires originate in the engine room. In hazardous conditions, fires can spread to other rooms of the ship and cause the loss of human life, and can cause the ship to be out of service or lost completely. To prevent these serious consequences, the engine room crew should be aware of hazards and ways to prevent them. It is also advisable to support their routine activities and actions in critical situations with an appropriate management system. For this reason, a survey was conducted at the beginning of 2019 of engine room crew members employed by a European shipowner, as a contribution to an analysis of fire safety management. Based on the results of the survey, some of the elements of the fire safety management system of the ship engine room are described. A properly constructed system that is understandable and accepted by the crew is one of the most important factors in increasing fire safety on a ship. Familiarisation with adequate procedures can significantly contribute to the successful prevention of accidents. This paper also proposes a checklist based on suggestions by the crew, which may be helpful in onboard fire prevention.

Wykonano obliczenia numeryczne wytrzymałości statycznej oraz zmęczeniowej w programie Ansys/LS-DYNA. Obliczenia numeryczne przeprowadzono z zastosowaniem Metody Elementów Skończonych. Uzyskane wyniki mogą stanowić pomoc, a opracowana aplikacja narzędzie wspomagające, do poprawnego projektowania konstrukcji układów korbowo-tłokowych.
In the paper computer calculation of rod-piston construction durability are presented. The analysis for parts of Honda D14A3 engine were conducted. An application in APDL language was elaborated. Numerical, static analysis were conducted and the next fatigue resistance analysis in Ansys/LSDYNA program. Numerical calculations with using Finite Element Method were carry out. Received results as graphs and figures are presented. The paper finishes with conclusions.

The paper presents analysis of fuelling and of the course of combustion process for a two-cycle engine. The main idea of the engine according to patent solution of Prof. B. Sendyka consists in the fact that engine work begins from spark ignition, whereas, at higher load and higher temperature in the cooling system there occurs switching off spark ignition and transition to ignition from an ignition dose injected directly into the combustion chamber. Such an engine possesses two injection systems: one system of multi-point injection which forms homogenous mixture, whereas, the other system of direct injection is used for ignition dose injection only. After injection of the ignition dose of a very small mass combustion is initiated on the basis of formation of auto-ignition centres so as it takes place during knock combustion. Auto-ignition centres initiate combustion of the basic charge. Simulation was carried out in order to perform analysis occurring phenomena of fuel feeding and combustion. Works on it started from elaboration of a computational grid of the engine and subsequently analysis of indicated diagrams of engine work with injection of ignition dose was performed. Analysis was also performed of temperature traces and of traces of charge mass change in the cylinder as well as of participation of the mass of basic fuel dose in the cylinder in function of the crank angle. Moreover visualization of effects of the process of mixture formation and combustion was performed and presented in form of illustrations of charge temperature distribution, fraction of fuel ignition and basic dose vapours in cross-sections of the combustion chamber.

In ultralight aviation, a very important engine parameter is the power-to-weight ratio. On the one hand, there is a tendency to minimize the size and weight of engines, and on the other hand, there is a demand to achieve the highest possible power by using supercharging systems. Increasing power brings many benefits, but it also increases temperature in the exhaust system, posing a threat to delicate parts of the ultralight aircraft fuselage. Therefore, it is necessary to control temperature values in the engine exhaust system. This article presents the temperature distribution in the exhaust system of an aircraft engine by the example of a four-cylinder Rotax 912 engine with an electronic fuel injection system. The research was conducted in two stages: measurements were made first for the engine without a turbocharger with an original exhaust system and later for its modified version with an added turbocharger system. The paper presents a comparative analysis of exhaust gas temperatures measured at three points: 30, 180 and 1000 mm from the cylinder head. The tests were conducted for the same preset engine operating conditions at constant speed and manifold air pressure. It has been shown that the exhaust temperature in the exhaust manifold decreases with the distance from the cylinder head. The highest gradient, over three times higher than the gas temperature from 589.9 °C to 192.3 °C, occurred in the manifold with a turbocharger for 2603 RPM and 31 kPa of manifold air pressure. The introduction of turbocharging causes an increase in exhaust gas temperatures before the turbocharger by an average of 12%, with this increase being greater for operating points of higher inlet manifold pressure. Turbocharging also causes a significant decrease in exhaust gas temperatures behind the turbocharger and the silencer because the temperature drops there by an average of 25%.

The article presents the developed methods for diagnosing and analysing signals from injection systems of marine engines. As a source signal, the authors use elastic waves of acoustic emission. The essential fact in the case here considered is that the high frequency of signal from working elements of the injection system comes from a close source directly related to the change of the working parameters of the element (system). Characteristically for elastic waves of acoustic emission, low frequencies (e.g. those from other sources, such as machines in the engine room) are in this case attenuated. Therefore, the proper selection of the method for the analysis allows us accurately diagnose the injection system of a working engine.

This article shows the importance of the diagnostic improvement methods of marine engines to boost the economy and safety of operation of marine cargo ships. The need to implement effective diagnostic methods is justified by presenting statistical data of marine diesel engines failure and the cost of their operation. Based on the own research has been proven, for the chosen example, that indicator diagrams and analysis of indicated parameters have limited utility in the diagnosis of damages of marine engine, although this is a method commonly used in operational practice. To achieve greater diagnostic effectiveness, when, based on indicator diagrams, are calculated and then the characteristics of heat release is analyzed - net of heat release characteristics and the intensity of the heat release, it was demonstrated. This procedure is particularly effective in the diagnosis of damage of injection system components marine diesel engine.

W artykule zaprezentowano stosowane rozwiązania układów rozruchowych w pojazdach militarnych. Przedstawiono także koncepcję rozwiązania wspomagającego rozruch i fazę nagrzewania silnika.
In military vehicles very important is starting system of combustion engines. Weather conditions and irregular usage of engines causes that auxiliary starters are necessary. With these systems engines have easier start and better protection against damage. An article presents several examples of engines’ starters from military vehicles and conception of system which supports engine’s start and warm up.

Celem badań jest wyznaczanie drgań modelu kadłuba silnika spalinowego wywołanych zmiennymi siłami występującymi w układzie korbowo-tłokowym. Uwzględniając zależności kinematyczne układu korbowo-tłokowego określono wartości tych sił, przy założeniu zmian wartości ciśnienia nad tłokiem oraz zmian prędkości obrotowej silnika. Wyznaczone wartości sił wymuszających drgania zostały wykorzystane w modelu MES kadłuba do oszacowania prędkości drgań wybranego, przykładowego punktu kadłuba.
The aim of the reaserch is counting internal combustion engine crankcase vibration caused by changing excitation forces in piston-crank system. The values of these forces were calculated taking into consideration kinematic equations of piston-crank system, assuming changes of cylinder pressure and engine rotation velocity values. The calculated excitating vibration forces were used in an engine FEM model to estimate vibration velocity of a choosen examplary crankcase point.

Genetic algorithm is a soft computing method that works on set of solutions. These solutions are called chromosome and the best one is the absolute solution of the problem. The main problem of this algorithm is that after passing through some generations, it may be produced some chromosomes that had been produced in some generations ago that causes reducing the convergence speed. From another respective, most of the genetic algorithms are implemented in software and less works have been done on hardware implementation. Our work implements genetic algorithm in hardware that doesn’t produce chromosome that have been produced in previous generations. In this work, most of genetic operators are implemented without producing iterative chromosomes and genetic diversity is preserved. Genetic diversity causes that not only don’t this algorithm converge to local optimum but also reaching to global optimum. Without any doubts, proposed approach is so faster than software implementations. Evaluation results also show the proposed approach is faster than hardware ones.

Initially, electronic components replaced the mechanical ones to make various systems more reliable. Mechanical control systems, due to the wear of movable parts and imprecise adjustment, were affected by large errors, which are not shown by electronic circuits operating according to constant set-points. Then, a sharp increase in electronisation was associated with the tightening of exhaust gas emission regulations. Progress in some cases is forced by environmental protection, in other ones by market competition. Modern motor vehicles, slow moving vehicles, military vehicles, etc., are the technical systems being constructed using the latest developments in many fields of science, first of all in mechanics and machine engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, information technology, and chemistry. The rapid development of electronics has led to an increase in the number of electronic components in motor vehicles in all systems, starting with an engine, which has been modified first, to comfort and infotainment systems. The paper presents example measurements of sensors and actuators of an engine with Common Rail fuel supply system on the example of Fiat 1.3 JTD MultiJet engine. The measurements were made using various diagnostic instruments, such as a diagnostic tester, a multimeter or an oscilloscope. Sometimes, the reading of error codes with a diagnostic tester itself is not enough and it is necessary to check the signal waveform with an oscilloscope, which has been presented in this paper.

This paper presents the analysis of costs reduction of Common Rail fuel injectors repairs. The task of fuel injectors is to spray and distribute fuel very precisely in combustion chamber. It has to be reliable to accomplish this task. The requirements for CI engines are low emission of toxic substances in fumes and low fuel consumption. In order to meet the rigorous standards, the Common Rail fuel injection system has been implemented, which increased fuel injection pressure and introduced multi – stage dosage. The cost of this ‘s repair is very high due to sophisticated spare parts and technology. This article describes how to lower the cost of modern fuel injectors repair.

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between the occurrence of selected types of failures and the time and season of their occurrence in public transport buses in the city of Lublin. The analysis was carried out for buses operated in the Municipal Transport Company within the past 3 years. The chi-squared analysis showed that during operation, there are significant differences between the failures and the annual season, but there are no differences between the frequency of failures and the time of day.

Układy sterowania silników spalinowych to złożone układy mechatronicz-ne. Sterowanie tymi układami polega na pomiarze wielkości określających warunki pracy silnika i na tej podstawie wypracowaniu wielkości sterujących elementami wykonawczymi. Takie rozwiązanie zapewnia optymalne sterowanie silnikiem z drugiej strony umożliwia dość łatwą ingerencję w jego działanie. W artykule opisano metody ingerencji w sterowanie tego typu układów, które pozwalają na modyfikację osiągów silnika.
The control systems of modern combustion engines are complex mecha-tronic systems. The idea of control through this type of system is based on the measurement of physical quantities defining the current engine opera-ting conditions and working out the quantities controlling the actuators by the controller on this basis. Such a control system solution ensures optimum engine control and enables easy interference with its operation.Current specialist software allows users to modify the engine control software, which allows not only changing the engine’s performance, but also switching on some of its systems as well as masking the engine damage. This paper describes the common methods of interfering with the operation of such systems, both through changing the control software and also falsification of signals in measuring sensors (Fig. 4). Actions of this type are quite difficult to detect by state services and even authorized services. Moreover, they are also not fully regulated by law, which often induces motor vehicle users to use so-called ”chip tuning”. Such modifications very often result in significant changes in engine operating conditions, which may cause vehicles to fail exhaust emission standards. Moreover, such changes may lead to decreased vehicle durability and vehicle use safety. This particularly concerns vehicles purchased on the secondary market, whose buyers are most often not aware of changes introduced in the engine control software.

Analyse of possibility of the SB3.1 investigative diesel engine modernisation is showed in this paper. The engine is the excellent tool permitting to conduct investigative work over processes of fuel mixture production, spontaneous ignition and burning in a diesel engine with direct injection. It makes possible put in the changes of compression rate, the camshaft timing angle and the fuel injection timing angle. The obsolete system of the engine feeding, equipped with row injection's pump and injector come from the SW-680 engine is his drawback. Use of injection system type Common Rail allows solution of imperfection of this engine. That system would permit to extension of the engine SB3.1 investigative possibilities on investigation of processes limiting the emission of toxic compounds in exhaust gases and especially the soot filters and the catalytic afterburners or systems of reducing of nitrogen oxides emission. The modernization of engine SB3.1 contains the change of a high pressure pump with fuel pressure over 135 mpa and electronically controlled injector. The engine has also to be equipped in number of the control and measuring devices and the control unit to control of influence of converting gathered measuring signals on a fuel dose injected to cylinder.

The issues addressed in this paper concern the effect of pressure in the Common Rail accumulator on the engine operating parameters such as its torque, power output, rotational speed as well as its hourly and specific fuel consumption. Here, the research methods were performed by using the engine test bench strictly in accordance with the specific standards but particularly according to the requirements specified by these standards. The research station was the Fiat Multijet 1.3 JTD engine with turbocharging and direct injection, used as a power unit in the motor cars. Additionally, the experimental tests were run by using also (1) the HP-made measuring set for measurements the high pressure (up to 2,500 bars) in the Common Rail system, and (2) the CDIF/2 diagnostic interface. All relationships are presented in the form of graphs, and what is found here is the increasing linear relationship between the p rail pressure and the engine speed: with an increase in speed comes a decrease in the total injection time. The torque and its power output were a function of both the pressure in the Common Rail accumulator and the speed. It was found that the highest total engine efficiency (fuel consumption per unit) was for the rail pressure ranging from 1,000 to 1,100 bars. The findings come up for discussion about the apt choice of pressure in the rail, together with the total injection time and the turbocharger highest efficiency, for the specified speed of a car power unit.

The paper presents an analysis of the energy balance and selected processes accompanying the IC engine working from the point of view of improving its efficiency. The article presents an analysis of the losses accompanying the work of the IC engine of the latest generations, as well as discusses efficiency of the systems improving performance of the above mentioned units. The systems described and suggested solutions are based on utilization of the IC engine losses as the source of their functioning. Besides, the structures of electrical energy management on board of a modern automobile are outlined and the concept of the distribution and supervision of electrical energy originating from the turbogenerator located in the exhaust system of the piston engine is proposed. Finally, an innovative solution is put forward of how to solve the problem of eclectic energy distribution and management of the system based on the use of kinetic energy of the exhaust gas passing through the IC engine exhaust system.
W artykule przeanalizowano bilans energetyczny oraz wybrane procesy towarzyszące pracy silnika spalinowego pod kątem poprawy jego sprawności. Zaprezentowano analizę strat towarzyszących pracy silnika spalinowego najnowszych generacji, rozważając zarazem skuteczność systemów podnoszących sprawność powyższych jednostek. Opisane systemy oraz propozycje rozwiązań oparte są na wykorzystaniu strat silnika spalinowego jako źródła ich funkcjonowania. Przedstawiono też struktury zarządzania energią elektryczną na pokładzie współczesnego pojazdu samochodowego oraz koncepcję dyspozycji i nadzoru energii elektrycznej pochodzącej z turbogeneratora zlokalizowanego w układzie wydechowym silnika tłokowego. W materiale zaproponowano innowacyjne rozwiązanie dystrybucji i zarządzania energią eklektyczną systemu opartego na wykorzystaniu energii kinetycznej przepływu spalin w układzie wydechowym silnika spalinowego.

Crank systems are the essential part of piston engines. Their operating characteristics directly determine the characteristics of work of the whole engine. Therefore, this study presents an analysis of crankshaft system loads in different types of engines. It also shows the advantages and disadvantages of each of these solutions that should be assessed, because they affect the extent of its use.

The paper presents the results of experimental tests of a FIAT MultiJet 1.3 SDE 90 PS engine equipped with a common rail system, running at full load operation at rotational speeds of n = 1000 rpm, 1750 rpm, 2000 rpm, 2500 rpm, 3000 rpm, 3500 rpm, 4000 rpm and 4200 rpm, carried out on a dynamometer stand. During the tests, the engine was supplied with diesel oil and rape oil fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) in the following proportions: B20 (80% diesel oil and 20% FAME), B40 (60% diesel oil and 40% FAME), B60 (40% diesel oil and 60% FAME) and B80 (20% diesel oil and 80% FAME). This paper presents an assessment of the effect of the additions of rape oil fatty acid methyl esters to diesel oil on the unit fuel consumption and the emission of the following harmful exhaust gas components: nitrogen oxides, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, particulates and carbon dioxide. The fuel consumption was measured using a AVL 730 Dynamic Fuel Consumption fuel dosimeter. The measurements of the concentrations of the above-mentioned harmful exhaust gas components were performed using a MEXA-1600 DEGR analyser manufactured by Horiba, while particulate emissions were measured with a MEXA-1230PM analyser manufactured by Horiba.

The article concerns computer modelling of processes in cooling systems of internal combustion engines. Modelling objectives and existing commercial programs are presented. It also describes Author’s own method of binding graphs used to describe phenomena in the cooling system of a spark ignition engine. The own model has been verified by tests on the engine dynamometer. An example of using a commercial program for experimental modelling of an installation containing a heat accumulator is presented.

Article discusses issues concerning researching electromagnetic fuel injectors. These fuel system is using in automobiles all the time. Bosch Company declined piezoelectric fuel injectors and reverted to electromagnetic. There are known Denso, Delphi and Bosch electromagnetic fuel injectors. Article describes how to diagnose and repair it. Denso and Bosch fuel injectors have almost the same construction. These objects have very similar repair technology. Despite Denso fuel injectors has not manufacturer official repair technology it is possibility to regenerate it because there are tools and many spare parts available on the market. Article discusses construction and operation presented fuel injectors. There has been shown diagnostic parameters and how to analysis it. Researches have been made in laboratory handle; to research and repair Diesel injection systems. Article describes construction, operating testing and repairing of electromagnetic fuel injectors. The aim of the article is to present the possibilities of researching and repairing electromagnetic fuel injectors. The fuel unit injector testing and repair process is carried out. The tests were conducted in a specialist laboratory where fuel injectors, fuel unit injectors and fuel injection pumps are being regenerated. The setting of the opening pressure of fuel unit injector is a very important stage because it affects the volume of injection doses. The opening pressure of fuel unit injector should amount to 28 MPa. F

This paper presents the analysis of costs and cost-efficiency of the repair of modern fuel injection systems in compression-ignition engines. The requirements for modern Diesel engines are low emission of toxic substances into the atmosphere and low fuel consumption. In order to meet the rigorous standards, the Common Rail fuel injection system has been implemented. By increasing fuel injection pressure to 200 MPa and introducing multi-stage dosing, engine designers have improved the process of air-fuel mixture combustion and engine ecological and economic parameters. The price for these changes is an accelerated wear of fuel injection equipment in modern CI engines. Regular fuel filter replacement and periodical cleaning of the systems would minimise the risk of damage. Unfortunately, most users do not comply with vehicle servicing times, and come to car repair shops only when a failure occurs, but then it is too late and the repair costs are high.

The article presents an analysis of the design of cooling liquid pumps for a compression-ignition aircraft engine. A 100 kW twin-charged, two-stroke, liquid-cooled engine has 3 cylinders and 6 opposed-pistons. In the first part of the study, the amount of heat needed to be removed by the cooling system was estimated to obtain the required volumetric flow rate. Then, the design of automotive cooling liquid pumps for compression-ignition engines with a Common Rail power supply system and power of about 100 kW was analyzed. The aim of the analysis was to select a suitable pump for applications in the aircraft compression-ignition engine. 5 constructions of different shape, diameter and width of the working rotor were selected. The pressure and volume flow rate were determined for a given rotational speed of the pump on a specially built stand. The operation maps of individual pumps were created to select the most efficient types of pumps.

The article refers to results and conclusions on post-emergency repairs of a turbo-charging system of a DEUTZ engine of the SBV 8M 628 type of 1715 kW – the main power unit of a cement carrier. The failure of the turbocharger led to severing of a part of the exhaust outlet valve head. In order to determine the cause of the turbocharger fault, parametric identification of the reference state of the turbocharging system interacting with the ship main power engine has been carried out. The post-emergency servicing of the turbocharger comprised mounting a new blade rim of expansive instruments of smaller capacity than the so far used. Control measurement results of the power system after the replacement of the turbocharger turbine nozzle have been presented. Limitations of correct engine operation have been noted in the range of maximum load with continuous power (MCR). A range of corrective maintenance servicing of fuel equipment has been presented. Using the values of measured torque at the propeller shaft, incorrect interaction between the shaft and the main engine has been noted. A new propeller, adequate to the design operational parameters of the engine characteristics, has been chosen and mounted. The correctness of turbine expansive instrument replacement has been verified by correct interaction between the elements of the power system: propeller – main engine – turbocharging system. Thus, a wider range of economically acceptable ship operation has been obtained.

This article is a contribution to the ongoing debate on the scenario of the vehicle powertrains development. The directions of the internal combustion engines development in search of the possibility of effective economic and ecological indicators improvement have been indicated. It has been pointed out that this goal can be achieved through the use of nanotechnology in order to exceed the downsizing barriers resulting from the permissible mechanical loads for conventional materials. The article presents the study of the construction and materials used in the piston assembly of the most advanced four-cylinder, compression-ignition diesel engine currently in manufacture. Original concepts of nanotechnology have been proposed to reduce friction losses in major friction components of future engines with extremely high loads. The main idea is to verify the hypothesis that the sub-micron surface texture of the friction components obtained in the process of applying anti-wear outer layers can lead to an effective reduction of friction losses under real engine operating conditions. Computer simulations of the effects of introducing the surface texture in the upper sealing ring on friction loss confirm this hypothesis by showing friction value being reduced by 3-4% relative to the standard ring profile. In the summary, further advanced technologies designed to effectively utilize the unique properties of carbon nanotubes have been described.

The basic objective of the article was to identify inference algorithms (rules) in the diagnosis process of high pressure pumps (HP) on the example of gasoline engine units, designated as EP (THP). For the needs of the main objective, a partial goal was assigned. It was to characterize the symptoms and diagnostic codes indicating the malfunction of the high pressure pump. As a result of empirical proceedings, the results of the analysis of completed repairs of the high pressure fuel system were presented, then, based on the technical documentation and observation of the course of diagnostic activities in workshop conditions, the HP pump diagnostic process was recreated on the example of the tested EP unit. In addition, as a result of the study, factors shaping the correct implementation of the HP pump diagnosis process were identified. This study may be an incentive for a more in-depth analysis of the methodology for diagnosing low and high pressure fuel circuits in spark-ignition engines.
Celem podstawowym artykułu była identyfikacja algorytmów (reguł) wnioskowania w procesie diagnozowania pomp wysokiego ciśnienia paliwa (HP) na przykładzie benzynowych jednostek silnikowych, oznaczonych jako EP (THP). Na potrzeby realizacji celu głównego przyporządkowano cel cząstkowy. Było nim scharakteryzowanie symptomów i kodów diagnostycznych wskazujących na usterkę pompy wysokiego ciśnienia paliwa. W rezultacie przeprowadzonego postępowania empirycznego przedstawiono wyniki analizy zakończonych napraw układu wysokiego ciśnienia paliwa, następnie, w oparciu o dokumentację techniczną i obserwację przebiegu działań diagnostycznych w warunkach warsztatowych odtworzono proces diagnostyki pomp HP na przykładzie badanej jednostki EP. Ponadto w rezultacie badania zidentyfikowano czynniki kształtujące poprawną realizację procesu diagnozy pomp HP. Niniejsze opracowanie może stanowić asumpt do głębszej analizy metodyki diagnozy obiegów niskiego i wysokiego ciśnienia paliwa w silnikach o zapłonie iskrowym.

Today huge capacity sea-going vessels are propelled by mega high-powered marine diesel engines, referred to as Main Engine. Turbocharging system is an integral part of large marine diesel engine plant, contributing to their safety, reliability, and efficiency. Defects in the turbocharging system could result in higher fuel consumption, erratic running of the Main Engine, and in the worst scenario may result in the stoppage of the Main Engine at sea. An inefficient turbocharging system may also cause major damage to turbochargers, resulting in undesirable accidents out at sea. To avoid such undesirable accidents and ensure smooth operations of the Main Engine, it is required to address this concern. The aim of this research is to study the turbocharging system for a large Main Engine using a Kongsberg engine simulator. Various malfunction of the Turbocharging system is considered, relevant data is collected and analysed. Moreover, a Fault Tree Analysis, (FTA) is considered to identify the top undesirable event which is the failure of the Main Engine. Based on the results of this study, various steps are suggested to avoid failure of the Main Engine due to the defective turbocharging system.

In this paper, a novel fuel-injection mechatronic control method and system for direct injection (DI) internal combustion engines (ICE) is proposed. This method and system is based on the energy saving in a capacitance using DC-DC converter, giving a very fast ON state of the fuel injectors’ electro-magnetic fluidical valves without an application of the initial load current. A fuel-injection controller for the DI ICEs that provides a very short rising time of an electromagnet-winding current in an initial ON state of the fuel-injector’s electromagnetic fluidical valves, which improves a fuel-injection controller reliability and simplify its construction, is presented. Due to a number of advantages of afore -mentioned fuel-injection mechatronic control method and system, it may be utilised for the DI ICEs with fuel injectors dedicated to all types of liquid and/or gas fuels, for example, gasoline, diesel-oil, alkohol, LPG and NPG.

Can is widely distributed network in the industry and automotive applications with high availability enable its electronic components and the easy integration projects with software engineering research Matlab type, tends to encourage the use of these precious features of CAN to build research stands. The article presents a data transmission system using the CAN protocol as a test of a new generation of cooling systems for internal combustion engines. Adopted for the object of research methodology which involves the simulation of variable parameters of the different control strategies require data processing in real time. A large number of recorded and interpreted online information about the temperatures in many parts of the facility and other variables such as instantaneous fuel consumption, secreted mechanical power, crankshaft and throttle position together with the need to control the plant justify departure from the traditional methods of transmitting signals in separate lines , for the application data exchange network, adopted by the authors as a way of organizing the flow of data based on the CAN protocol using the Matlab Simulink Real Time. The article contains a description of the implementation of networks in the context of very specific features for Controller Area Network particularly regarding mechanisms such as arbitration on the bus, the method of initiation and the provision of sufficient transmission capacity. The presented graphs and diagrams illustrate the proposed and implemented solutions and the results obtained from stucties measuring temperatures for the warm-up and cooling of the engine.

In this paper, the existing methods to reduce the heat discharged by the engine were characterized and the efficiency of combustion piston engine was analysed, where it was shown the need and the potential for reducing the heat dissipated directly or indirectly to the surrounding atmosphere. The model of the engine cooling system for high coolant temperature developed through AMESim software was presented in this paper. The model of the cooling system was made based on test stand solution designed and built using original components and units diesel engine 4CT90. The simulation researches results of temperature course and pressure course were shown. In this paper was demonstrated that it is possible to maintain the assumed constant pressure of 0.3 MPa in the system and obtain it at the elevated liquid temperature leading to an increase in overall engine efficiency. These researches were carried out also on the experimental model stand, which confirmed the results obtained in simulation researches. Then 4CT90 engine test stand was described, where speed characteristics as a function of torque, power and specific fuel consumption and load characteristics as a function of the fractions of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide, as well as specific and hourly fuel consumption were performed. Comparison of parameters and efficiency assessment of engine interacts with a traditional and pressure cooling system. The efficiency of the engine with the pressure and a traditional cooling system was evaluated.

W artykule omówiono automatyczny systemu pomiarowy, który zastosowano w niekonwencjonalnym obwodzie energetycznym. Podstawą niekonwencjonalnego obwodu energetycznego jest układ trójzmienny, w którym silnik spalinowy o zapłonie samoczynnym jest podstawowym źródłem energii. System ten produkuje energię elektryczną i energie ciepłą na trzech poziomych termicznych. Opisany system jest niekonwencjonalny ponieważ zastosowano niekonwencjonalny obwód chłodzenia silnika spalinowego, który zaprojektowano jako termokompresor dla absorpcji ciepła z tego obwodu.
The paper deals with an automated measuring system implemented in a non-conventional energetic circuit. The basis of a non-conventional energetic circuit is a trivalent system in which the ignition combustion engine is the source of primary energy. The system produces electric and thermal energy at three thermal levels. The system is referred to as non-conventional because of the non-conventional cooling circuit of the combustion engine which has been designed as a thermo compressor for absorptive cooling circulation.

Development of on-line diagnostic (monitoring) method of marine propulsion system working parameters is the authors' target. Crankshaft springing characteristics are one of the most important from the ships' main engines reliability point of view. Planned monitoring system will be able to verify crankshaft springing characteristics by continuous measurements of the crankshaft free-end's axial deformations. Development of the analysis methods of crankshaft's stiffness characteristics is the first step of planned SHM system. The main purpose of research is method developing of the springing analysis for the marine crankshafts in the high-power engines. Crankshaft modeling method, by Finite Element Method, has been discussed. Short overview of the crankshaft boundary conditions is presented. Bearings' oil film stiffness characteristics, ship hull stiffness characteristics and temperature deformation of the ship hull and main engine body are taking into account. Influence of the crankshaft's foundation stiffness on springing values is analysed. During the analyses it was proved that flexibility of engine foundation has a big influence upon the value of crankshaft springing. The authors' method of cylindrical mass and gas forces decompositions has been presented. Analysis of modeling precision of piston-crank system's forces has been performed. Results of calculations are well compatible in the terms of quality with the measurements data.

The main propulsion engine is the heart of a vessel which carries the entire load of the ship and propels to move ahead. The main engine consists of various sub-systems, the fuel oil system is the most important one. Fuel oil system provides fuel to the engine via a fuel injector mounted on the engine cylinder head. During the voyage, the main engine of a ship encounters a variation in loads and stresses due to rough weather to harsh manoeuvring, which sometimes leads to the breakdown of the main engine. Fuel oil systems are identified as one of the main reasons for engine breakdown. Many accidents happened due to the failure of the main engine fuel oil system in the last two decades. To ensure safe and reliable main propulsion engine operation, it is required to assess the reliability of a fuel oil system. However, there is a significant lack of appropriate data to develop the reliability assessment techniques for fuel oil system. This study proposes appropriate data collection and analysis procedure for the reliability assessment of a fuel oil system. Data related to Failure Running Hours (FRH) of a fuel oil system is collected from 101 experienced marine engineers through a questionnaire. The collected data processed using a box plot and analysed for a normality test. It helps to identify the generalization of the data. Moreover, this study identified failure-prone components of a fuel oil system. The collected data will help in developing reliability assessment techniques for accurate reliability analysis of a fuel oil system. The identified failure-prone components will assist in future reliability analysis and risk mitigation strategies for improving the overall safety and reliability of the shipping industry.

Określone zostaną kluczowe parametry wpływające na sprawne działanie układu chłodzenia, a wykonane analizy pozwolą na sprawdzenie: niezawodności funkcjonowania poszczególnych elementów układu chłodzenia w zakresie dopuszczalnych i przewidywanych obciążeń potencjalnych obszarów podatnych na uszkodzenia, ich identyfikacji, kontrolę lub przeprojektowanie, ograniczenie masy.
Development of efficient cooling system for rocket chamber and nozzle is the one of the crucial aspects of designing process. Complexness of considered application is mostly related to mutual existence of three different modes of heat transfer: conduction, convection and radiation. This paper describes the theoretical model of thermal-fluids processes in the propulsion system, especially regenerative cooled engines. For calculation purpose program was written in Fortran. This code uses iterative marching scheme to match the heat flux and temperature fields of cooling process. Description contains a design parameters qualification which influence a feasibility of cooling system for ecologically propelled rocket engine.

W artykule tym dokonano również oszacowania wybranych wskaźników niezawodności w zależności od czasu pracy badanych zaworów do ich uszkodzenia.
The paper presents results of operational research of injection valves of marine combustion engines type 5 and 6 S46MC-C. According to research, there has been made classification of places of initiation of primary damages of injectors and tried to describe favourable conditions for appearing of damages. In this article, there has also been made assessment of selected reliability indexes depending on time of work of researched valves to their damages.

Opis:
Przedstawiono wpływ wybranych parametrów regulacyjnych tłokowego silnika spalinowego o zapłonie samoczynnym (kąta wyprzedzenia i ciśnienia wtrysku oraz dawki paliwa) na wybrane parametry sygnału drganiowego rejestrowanego na jego kadłubie i głowicy (wybrane składowe zawarte w widmach amplitudowo-częstotliwościowych przyspieszeń drgań prostopadłych do powierzchni mocowania czujników pomiarowych na kadłubie i głowicy). Przedstawiono również koncepcję (algorytm diagnozowania i konfigurację układu pomiarowo-decyzyjnego) wykorzystania uzyskanych wyników w systemie pokładowego diagnozowania tego silnika w zakresie wykrywania niewłaściwych wartości ciśnienia wtrysku oraz dawki paliwa.
The influence of select regulative parameters of the Diesel engine (injection advance angle, injection pressure and fuel charge) on select parameters of the vibration signal measured on his crankcase and cylinder head (select spectral components of vibration accelerations perpendicular to measurement sensor clamping surfaces on crankcase and cylinder head) was presented. The idea of the obtained results application in on-board diagnostics system of this engine to the detection of wrong values of the injection pressure and the fuel charge (i.e. the diagnostic algorithm and the measurement-and-analytic device configuration) was presented too.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono problematykę procesów diagnostyki technicznej w czasie pracy silnika z zapłonem samoczynnym. Przedstawiono rozwiązanie stanowiska badawczego wraz z oprogramowaniem sterującym pozwalającym na przeprowadzenie badań procesów diagnostycznych oraz przedstawiono wyniki badań opracowanych algorytmów diagnostycznych dla układu wtryskowego typu Common Rail.
The paper presented problems of diagnostic processes within function of self-ignition engine. There is presented a measuring stand of together with a controlling software enabling to research the diagnostic processes and result of investigation elaborate diagnostic algorithms of Common Rail injection system.
