Opis:: German composition fugues are inconspicuous and difficult to define, especially since their occurrence amounts to only about 30% of the total number of compositions. Nevertheless, a considerable number of the errors that occur are due to their incorrect use. Their linguistic status is just as bad. Mostly, contingent – possible, but not inherent – functions are mentioned: prosodic or that of signalling morpheme boundaries. In the present paper, the meta-linguistic added value of fugue oppositions is pointed out – preferably as indexing the language register contrasts between common and technical language with their relevant semantic differences.

Opis:: To Cross the Border Between Languages: the Epenthesis of Glides [j] and [w] as an Attempt at Tension Imitation in the Pronunciation of [e], [o] and [y] by Polish Learners of Dutch The text analyses the problem of the pronunciation of [e], [o] and [y] by Polish learners of Dutch. Next to a simple substitution of the three tense Dutch vowels by – respectively – Polish [ɛ], [ɔ], [i] or [u] it can also be noted that sometimes an extra glide [j] or [w] is being added after the Polish vowel. It can be seen as an attempt to imitate tension as tension is not a distinctive feature in Polish. The analysis shows that frequency of the vowel+glide combination differs (it is the highest in the case of [e]) and that the epenthesis of glides is correlated with learners‘ Dutch language level. More precisely, around the A2 level, having learned to distinguish Dutch tense and lax vowels, learners try to imitate them using articulatory solutions their mother tongue provides. The occurrence of the vowel+glide combination can therefore be seen as a positive step in the development of auditory and articulatory abilities.
In dem Text werden die Ausspracheprobleme der Niederländisch-lernenden Polen mit den Niederländischen Vokalen [e], [o] und [y] analysiert. Neben der einfachen Substitution von diesen drei Vokalen durch entsprechend das Polnische [ɛ], [ɔ] und [i]/[u], kann auch eine andere Ausspracheweise notiert werden, wobei nach dem Polnischen Vokal ein Gleitlaut ([j] oder [w]) hinzugefügt wird. Die weitere Analyse zeigt, dass die Frequenz der Gleitlautepenthese unterschiedlich ist (am höchsten ist sie im Falle vom [e]) und dass sie mit dem Niveau des Niederländischen korreliert. Genauer gesagt ist sie vor allem am A2-Niveau zu beobachten - auf diesem Niveau haben die Niederländisch-lernenden Polen die Niederländischen gespannten und ungespannten Vokalen auditiv zu unterscheiden gelernt, aber ihre artikulatorische Fähigkeiten sind noch unzureichend um einen gespannten Vokal korrekt zu realisieren. Sie versuchen also die Spannung nachzuahmen durch einen Gleitlaut hinzuzufügen.

Opis:: Zaprezentowany artykuł stanowi zwięzły przegląd zjawisk o charakterze fonetycznym, które występują w chińskich adaptacjach nazwisk noszonych przez Polaków. W materiale badawczym odnaleziono liczne przykłady różnorodnych strategii językowych. Były to zmiany o charakterze rozszerzeniowym (anaptyksa, paragoga), zmiany redukcyjne (afereza, apokopa, synkopa), zmiany kolejności głosek (metateza) i substytucje dźwięków języka oryginału ich fonetycznie najbliższymi odpowiednikami w języku przejmującym nazwy własne.W pracy przedstawiono również proces adaptacji nazw własnych w kontaktach międzyjęzykowych oraz zjawisko powstawania licznych par nazw własnych, których źródłem są pojedyncze antroponimy.Na omówiony w artykule materiał badawczy złożyły się 123 nazwiska polskie i 325 ich wariantów substytucyjnych, które funkcjonują w języku chińskim.
The submitted paper is a brief review of phonetic phenomena occurring in the Chinese adaptations of family names used by Polish people. Numerous instances of various linguistic strategies were found in the research material. These are: sound addition type of changes (anaptyxis, paragoge), sound reduction type of changes (apheresis, apocope, syncope), sound order changes (metathesis), as well as substitutions of the original sounds with their phonetically closest counterparts existing in the integrating language.The present deliberations pertain also to the onymic lexical units adaptation process occurring in the course of interlanguange contacts, as well as to a phenomenon of formation of numerous proper name pairs based upon a single anthroponym.The research material consists of 123 Polish surnames and their 325 substitution variants being used in the Chinese language.
