Opis:: Purpose – An assessment of the level of social capital in the context of ethnic diversity using the example of the Podlaskie voivodeship. Furthermore, showing the relationship between social capital and local and regional development.Research method – Quantitative and comparative analyses of selected indicators of the surveyed terri-torial units (powiats of the Podlaskie Voivodeship) while maintaining the criterion of ethnic diversity. Data from the Central Statistical Office (Local Data Bank) and the National Electoral Commission for the period 2010-2018 were used.Results – The level of social capital is higher in multi-ethnic powiats, in particular as far as the civic dimension is concerned, which is measured by the use of passive and active voting rights. Similarly, the number of foundations, associations and social organizations per 1,000 inhabitants is higher in multi-ethnic powiats. As far as the level of entrepreneurship is concerned, the majority of powiats of diversi-fied nationalities is insignificant, while single-nation powiats have higher rates in relation to member-ship in sports clubs.Originality / value / implications / recommendations – A thesis which is popular in the subject literature that ethnically diverse areas are characterized by lower social capital is not true in the case of the Podlaskie voivodeship, in which ethnic groups have been present for centuries. Consequently, it may be assumed that ethnic diversity has a negative impact on the level of social capital only temporarily.

Opis:: Iran is a country of great ethnic diversity. Although the official language of the country is Farsi, more than 8 other languages and hundreds of dialects are spoken throughout the country. This great ethnic diversity has led to emergence and growth of different cultures and religions (both official and non-official). This great diversity has potential for cultural growth and development. In recent years, many non-governmental organizations have made great efforts to teach children peace in different ways. The biggest motivation for these trainings are: to end misbelieves toward education, and professing to equal citizenship rights for all the ethnic groups. In the past 20 years, the issue of the right to equal education has been a hot topic of discussion in most non-governmental children’s researches. This refers to the promotion of peace culture, by peace-based educational programs for all age groups, from the beginning pre-school education stages. A group of active consultants and educational planners did a lot of work in this way. They held lots of workshops and meetings, and achieved successful programs with positive results.

Opis:: The article discusses, on the one hand, three stages of developing views about race and superiority of European civilization reflected in the second half of the 19th century in aggressive social-Darwinism of positivists, and on the other it confronts racial generalizations with nation-centered thinking, which played an extremely important role in identity discourse of the Poles. On the example of China and the Siberian-Chinese borderland, it can be noticed that perception of geography and the ethnic diversity in the world through the prism of great historiosophical and racial constructions is manifested in quite widespread adaptation of orientalizing language of the hegemon speaking about backwardness, lack of maturity for modernization and definite supremacy of Europe, while resistance to the oppression of the partitioners, and more broadly to the colonial policy of the European powers allows in Poland, contemptuously called Halb-Asien, like in the case of Indians and Boers, creating a kind of auto-colonial identification with the seemingly “exotic” nation.

Opis:: The aim of the article is to analyse the level, forms and manifestations of cooperation and integration between the members of two ethnically diverse local communities in which there are intense international migrations. Based on individual in-depth interviews, expert interviews and observations, an attempt was made to determine to what extent international labour migrations and ethnic and cultural diversity affect the level of integration in cooperation between the actual and declarative dimensions. The aim of the article is also to determine what is the nature of the local bond, in particular the neighbourhood bond. It has been demonstrated that economic migration is an important factor influencing the level of integration and cooperation in local communities: it results in removing the migrant from his or her community of origin, thus weakening the same level of integration and cooperation between its members, but also provides an opportunity to make new, lasting and significant acquaintances, including between people from the same locality of different ethnic and cultural origin. Spatial mobility can also cause divisions between its subjects and the rest of the community. The impact of international migrations on social capital depends on the time the migrant spends outside the local community. It is not the length of stay abroad that matters, but above all the frequency of visits to the place of origin.

Opis:: Em 1920, no ano do seu encerramento, o jornal Polak w Brazylii ficou na posse da Congregação dos Vicentinos de Curitiba. No mesmo ano, o periódico ressurgiu com um nome novo - Lud, mudando radicalmente o perfil para eclesiástico- -conservador, com o primeiro redator Pe. José Joaquim Góral (Malczewski, 2008: 217). No período entre 1930 a 1938, o jornal fornece as informações pertinentes tanto à sua mãe-pátria, para estimular o sentimento de pertença à mesma etnia, como ao Brasil, incentivando a integração na sociedade de acolhimento. O contexto da referida época, da crise económica global até à campanha de nacionalização de Getúlio Vargas, afeta, sem dúvida, o discurso veiculado nas publicações dos missionários, não só a sua visão do Outro, mas também a imagem da sua etnia. Assim sendo, o objetivo do nosso trabalho é apresentar e analisar a heteroimagem da sociedade brasileira, caracterizada pela diversidade étnica, conforme o periódico Lud, numa época marcante entre 1930 a 1938, tendo em consideração a influência da autoimagem dos poloneses.
In 1920 the newspaper Polak w Brazylii was closed and came to be in possession of the Congregation of the Mission in Curitiba. That same year, the new owners popularly known as Vincentians, lead by their first editor Father José Joaquim Góral, renamed journal to Lud, who also led to radical changes in the paper’s editorial line and tended to favour ecclesiastical conservatism (Malczewski, 2008: 217). During the period from 1930 to 1938, the newspaper contained information relevant for their Motherland, as they help to strengthen the feeling of belonging to the same ethnicity, as well as information related to Brazil, encouraging them to integrate in the host society. Indisputably, the context at the time in question, from the global economic crisis to the nationalization campaign of Getúlio Vargas, affects the discourse of Vincentians – not only their view of the Other, but also the image of their nationality. Therefore, the purpose of our work is to present and analyse the hetero image of Brazilian society characterized by ethnic diversity, according to the journal Lud in a special period between 1930 and 1938, taking into consideration the auto-image of Poles.

Opis:: Artykuł zawiera charakterystykę grupy etnicznej Hui, czyli Chińczyków wyznających islam, zamieszkujących głównie prowincje Ningxia i Kansu położone na Szlaku Jedwabnym oraz tworzących zwarte społeczności w niektórych wielkich miastach Chińskiej Republiki Ludowej (np. Xi-an). W szczególności ukazane są problemy szczególnej tożsamości Hui i ich stosunki tak z większością Han, jak i z zamieszkującymi Chiny narodami muzułmańskimi. Muzułmanie chińscy zmuszeni byli w ostatnich dekadach do kilkukrotnego przystosowywania się do warunków wynikających ze zmian w polityce komunistycznych władz, a obecnie starają się spełniać oczekiwania, jakie wynikają z rozwoju kosmopolitycznego społeczeństwa konsumpcyjnego. Na ich sytuację wpływa z jednej strony polityka władz komunistycznych dążących do utrzymania dobrych stosunków z państwami muzułmańskimi, z drugiej pomoc udzielana przez te państwa, a także okoliczności wynikające z konfliktów z udziałem państw islamskich, jakie mają obecnie miejsce.
he article contains the characteristics of the Hui ethnic group, or Chinese Muslim, mostly living in the provinces of Ningxia and Kansu located on the Silk Road and forming compact communities in some large cities of the People’s Republic of China (eg. Xi-an). In particular the problems of the Hui specific identity are shown as well as their decades the Chinese Muslims were several times forced to adapt to the conditions resulting from changes in the policy of the communist authorities, and are now trying to meet the expectations that arise from the development of a cosmopolitan consumer society. Their situation is affected by the policy of the communist authorities seeking to maintain good relations with the Muslim countries on the one hand, and by the assistance provided by those countries, and the circumstances arising from conflicts involving Islamic countries, which are currently taking place.

Analiza struktury etnicznej poprzedzona została charakterystyką ogólnogeograficzną kraju. Zasadniczą część stanowi charakterystyka 53 odrębnych mniejszości etnicznych wyróżniających się kulturą, językiem i wierzeniami. Podjęto ponadto próbę przedstawienia wielobarwnej mozaiki etnicznej Wietnamu jako istotnego waloru turystycznego, mającego znaczący wpływ na atrakcyjność turystyczną tego kraju. Jako studium przypadku wybrano miejscowość Sapa, która uznawana jest za centrum turystyki etnicznej Wietnamu.
The research problem discussed in the thesis is ethnic diversity of Vietnam in the context of the development of tourism. The analysis of the ethnic structure was preceded by the general geographical characteristics of the country. The essential part constitutes the description of 53 separate ethnic minorities which distinguish themselves in terms of culture, language and beliefs. Moreover, an attempt was made to present a multi-coloured ethnic mosaic of Vietnam as a significant tourist value, which has a considerable influence on the tourism attractiveness of this country. The town selected for the case study was Sapa, which is considered to constitute the centre of ethnic tourism in Vietnam.

Opis:: Teaching a foreign language in a multi-ethnic oriental society is fraught with a lot of linguistic and cultural difficulties, the most prominent of which is the fact that some expressions and topics are considered taboo for religious and/or cultural reasons. This study aims at highlighting some of the words and topics that both students and professors avoid using in French classes at Salahaddin University. The data is collected from teacher-student interaction in the Department of French in Erbil. The prohibited topics usually appear in some basic classes such as literature, French civilization, conversation and translation. We have put forward, at the end of the research, some effective solutions which were reached during the field study.
Le tabou linguistique est considéré comme un des obstacles que l’on peut rencontrer lors de l’enseignement de la langue étrangère notamment dans un pays multiculturel comme l’Irak. Dans cet article, nous jetons la lumière sur les expressions linguistiques et les faits sociolinguistiques jugés tabous par les étudiants du département de français d’Erbil. De même, nous montrons les types de sujets tabous ainsi que les cours dans lesquels ils apparaissent. Nous expliquons également les stratégies menées par les enseignants pour ne pas gêner leurs étudiants. Nous proposons à la fin quelques solutions pratiques pour aborder le tabou linguistique en classe de langue.
