Opis:
Every beatification, especially every canonization inevitably entails the absoluteness of the papal primacy, mainly his infallibility. From the early years of the Church, there has been a strong correlation between recognizing the ho-liness of candidates’ life and recognizing the signs of God performed after the candidates’ death. And so it is up to this day. A miracle, consequently, being the evidence in the canonization law, is also the subject of proving. Therefore, before any miracle is announced, it is necessary to first prove it, in order to obtain an absolute moral certainty about the authenticity of the particular phe-nomena, which is alleged to exceed the laws of nature. This is why the expert witnesses are appointed, to analyze an alleged miracle in solely human terms and give the final opinion about its authenticity. Such proving begins on prem-ises of the diocese, where the miracle was alleged, and then the investigation proceeds to the Congregation premises, where further consultations are being held.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to explore the discursive practices of foreign policy experts. While policy decisions involving war and peace keep people alarmed all over the globe, most of these decisions are shaped by policy experts who work on influencing public opinion through the media (Manheim, 2011). This study adopts a critical discursive stance and uses argumentation analysis to examine the ideological backdrop to the discourse of thirty opinion articles authored by American foreign policy experts in print media. Drawing on the Pragma-dialectical method of augmentation analysis (van Eemeren and Grootendorst, 2004), and more particularly on its notion of strategic maneuvering, the analysis examines the confrontational strategies used by this group of experts and attempts to determine the rhetorical goals pursued by these strategic maneuvers.

Opis:
This article explores a prevalent thematic strand of the Swedish public discourse on Covid-19 pandemic strategies. Analyzing the construction and role of the expert as it has been played out in the news media coverage of Covid-19 in four leading Swedish daily newspapers throughout the first two months of the pandemic in 2020 (February and March), the contribution asks who counts as a trustworthy expert, and to what extent such ascriptions are used in debates about the Swedish coronavirus strategy, which has aroused much interest and criticism. One of the important findings is the concept of a reliable and rational expert who is, primarily, a Swedish epidemiologist. Also noteworthy is the fact that the role of the expert and the very word expert seem to be under negotiation. This contribution is situated within the framework of discourse linguistics and explores segments of discourse understood as collectively shared knowledge. A partly corpus-assisted methodology is used. The study aims to link linguistic utterances on the expert’s role in the pandemic with the level of important social actors in the course of the pandemic in Sweden.

Opis:
This article is a contribution to the research of one of the priority directions of the development of forensic expert activity – the creation of an effective system of training and certification of forensic experts in Ukraine. The study examines the organizational principles, structure, and tasks of departmental expert qualification commissions under ministries and other central bodies of executive power, the scope of which includes state specialized institutions that carry out forensic expert activities. Departmental normative legal acts regulating the formation of expert and qualification commissions are analyzed. The article substantiates the need for the creation of a single qualification and disciplinary body, which would contribute to the provision of uniform approaches to determining the qualification suitability and bringing to disciplinary responsibility judicial experts working in state specialized institutions, their territorial branches, expert institutions of communal ownership, as well as judicial experts, who are not employees of the specified institutions. Emphasis is placed on the need to develop a normative legal act that would establish uniform qualification and disciplinary rules. The need to create a self-regulatory institution in the field of judicial expert activity, which would develop and present a strategic vision of the development of the field of expert provision of justice, was emphasized.

Opis:
To test the reliability of the evaluation of musical performances by musical experts, the protocols of the jury of an international music contest have been subjected to statistical analysis. The object of the analysis were 2156 jurors’ points and rank ratings, given by 28 members of the jury, assessing 77 different performances of one of Fryderyk Chopin’s polonaises, evaluated during the first stage of an international music competition. The analysis revealed the following: 1. very large interpersonal (inter-rater) differences of the jurors’ ratings, 2. despite these differences, there was a very high level of statistical significance of the inter-rater agreement (p<.ool) of the jurors’ evaluation, 3. despite the high level of statistical significance of inter-rater agreement of the evaluation of musical performance, this accounts for only 1/3 of the general variance of ratings. Conclusion: individual ratings of musical performance are not a reliable measure of musical achievement, even when given by music experts of the highest level.

Opis:
The purpose of this article is to clarify the nature of legal professions as experts. In particular, an attempt has been made to answer the question of what, in the case of these professions, is the social role that requires the application of abstract knowledge to specific cases. The starting point for consideration is social theories that see this role as a mediation and integration of the social structure. Next, using the methodology of cognitive metaphor, this characterization is further clarified by juxtaposing it with another type of expert activity, i.e., translation. Thus, practical problems were identified in the work of a lawyer, related to mediating in the social structure between abstract knowledge of law and solving individual legal problems. These problems were characterized primarily as difficulties in the use of different languages by institutions and citizens.

Opis:
Objective: The article aims to evaluate the influence of international supervisory board experts on firm financial performance, based on the impact of international experts’ characteristics, such as their knowledge, experience, independence, and connections. Methodology/research approach: The empirical study is based on a unique handcollected dataset covering a final sample of 256 companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) and which operated on the market during the observation period 2010- 2015. The Generalized Least Squares (GLS) regression model with a random effect is employed to test the hypotheses. Findings: The findings strongly suggest that the presence of supervisory board members with an outside perspective and international experience may exert a positive impact on companies’ operational outcomes. Research limitations/implications: The research has practical implications for Polish governmental agencies, as it verifies the usefulness of the recommendations for supervisory board composition presented in the Best Practices for WSE Listed Companies. Originality/value: The study contributes to the existing literature on the factors that affect company performance. Consequently, great value is added to the research on supervisory board characteristics that are crucial for effective monitoring and advisory roles, enhancing the quality of corporate governance.
