Opis:: We show that a unimodal failure rate function can be obtained as a mixture of two increasing failure rate functions. Speciﬁcally, we study the failure rate of the mixture of an exponential distribution and an IFR (increasing failure rate) distribution with increasing quadratic failure rate function. At the end of the paper we show a numerical example of the modiﬁed unimodal failure rate function.

Opis:: Several papers introduce the new distributions and their applications, including, among others, those of Ducey and Gove [7], Grine and Zeghdoudi [8], Chouia et al. [5], Seghier et al. [11], Beghriche and Zeghdoudi [4], where characterisation of a probability distribution plays an important role in statistical science. Several researchers studied the characterisations of probability distributions. For example, Su and Huang [12] study the characterisations of distributions based on expectations. In addition, Nanda [10] studies the characterisations by average residual life and the failure rates of functions of absolutely continuous random variables. Ahmadi et al. [1] consider the estimation based on the left-truncated and right randomly censored data arising from a general family of distributions. On the other hand, Ahsanullah et al. [2, 3] present two characterisations of Lindley distribution, standard normal distribution, t-Student’s, exponentiated exponential, power function, Pareto, and Weibull distributions based on the relation of failure rate, reverse failure rate functions with left and right truncated moments. Recently, Haseeb and Yahia [9] studied truncated moments for two general classes of continuous distributions. In this paper, two characterisations of the X-Lindley distribution, introduced by Chouia and Zeghdoudi [5] have been studied. They are based on the failure, relation of the inverse failure rate functions with the left and right truncated moments, respectively. Section 2 gives some properties of X-Lindley distribution. Section 3 discusses the characterisation of general distribution by left truncated and failure rate function and then right truncated and reverse failure rate function. Section 4 studies the characterisation of X-Lindley distribution by using the relation between left/right truncated moment and failure/reverse failure rate function. Finally, an illustrative example of X-Lindley distribution with other one-parameter distributions is given to show the superiority and flexibility of this model.

Opis:: Burn-in is a widely used engineering method which is adopted to eliminate defective items before they are shipped to customers or put into field operation. In order to shorten the burn-in process, burn-in is most often accomplished in an accelerated environment. However, there have been few probabilistic or stochastic models for the burn-in procedures in accelerated environment. In this paper, under a new stochastic model for accelerated burn-in procedure, the problems of determining both optimal accelerated burn-in time and optimal replacement policy are considered. Components are burned-in under an accelerated environment, then those surviving the burn-in procedure are put into field operation and they are maintained under a replacement policy. The properties of the optimal accelerated burn-in time and optimal replacement policy are obtained and a numerical example which illustrates the usage of obtained results will be presented.

Opis:: W pracy bada się efekty wprowadzenia odnów prewencyjnych do systemu eksploatacji, realizowanych przez wymiany według wieku obiektów technicznych posiadających gwarancję producenta i nienaprawialnych. W tym celu bada się koszt przypadający na jednostkę czasu, wynikający z wykonywanych w systemie eksploatacji wymian profilaktycznych i napraw. Funkcję wyrażającą ten koszt w zależności od czasu wymiany zdefiniowano w oparciu o podstawy teorii procesów semi–Markowa. Sformułowano warunki dostateczne istnienia minimum kosztu wymian w przypadku, gdy czas do uszkodzenia ma niemalejącą funkcję intensywności uszkodzeń. W końcowej części artykułu przedstawiono przykład numeryczny ilustrujący przedstawione w pracy wyniki.
This paper investigates the effects of introducing preventive replacement to maintenance system implemented by age-replacement of technical objects with valid manufacturer’s warranty and non-repairable. In order to examine this, the cost per unit time, resulting from the use of the preventive replacements and repairs system is investigated. The function expressing the cost depending on the time of replacement is defined on the basis of the foundations of the theory of semi-Markov processes. Sufficient conditions for the existence of the minimum of criteria function were formulated, in this case when the failure rate function is increasing. In the final part of the paper, a numerical example illustrating the findings of the paper was presented.

Opis:: Preventive replacement is applied to improve the device availability or increase the profit per unit time of the maintenance system. In this paper, we study age-replacement model of technical object for n-state system model. The criteria function applied in this paper describe profit per unit time or coefficient of availability. The probability distribution of a unit‘s failure time is assumed to be known, and preventive replacement strategy will be used over very long period of time. We investigate the problem of maximization of profit per unit time and coefficient availability for increasing the failure rate function of the lifetime and for a wider class of lifetime. The purpose of this paper is to obtain conditions under which the profit per unit time approaches a maximum. In this paper we shows that the criteria function (profit per unit time or coefficient availability) can be expressed using the matrix calculation method. Finally, a numerical example to evaluate an optimal replacement age is presented.
Wymiany prewencyjne stosuje się w celu podnoszenia gotowości systemów eksploatacji maszyn i wzrostu dochodu na jednostkę czasu systemu eksploatacji. W pracy analizuje się model wymian obiektów technicznych według wieku dla n-stanowego systemu. Funkcja kryterialna stosowana w pracy wyraża zysk przypadający na jednostkę czasu lub współczynnik gotowości. Zakłada się, że rozkład prawdopodobieństwa czasu do uszkodzenia obiektu technicznego jest znany i strategia wymian prewencyjnych będzie stosowana na długim przedziale czasowym. Bada się problem maksymalizacji zysku na jednostkę czasu i współczynnika gotowości dla rosnącej funkcji intensywności uszkodzeń lub funkcji intensywności z szerszej klasy. Celem tej pracy jest sformułowanie warunków, przy których zysk na jednostkę czasu osiąga maksimum. W pracy pokazano, że badaną funkcję kryterialną (zysk na jednostkę czasu lub współczynnik gotowości) można wyrazić za pomocą metod rachunku macierzowego. Na końcu pracy przedstawiono przykład numeryczny oceny optymalnego wieku wymiany dla rzeczywistego procesu eksploatacji.

Opis:: W artykule przedstawione zostały metody estymacji nieznanych parametrów wykładniczego rozkładu czasów przebywania elementów systemu w podzbiorach stanów niezawodnościowych. Rozważone zostały różne przypadki przeprowadzonych badań empirycznych, włączając mało liczne realizacje oraz badania niedokończone. Ponadto zaprezentowany został program komputerowy oparty na tych metodach wraz z przykładem zastosowania do identyfikacji niezawodności systemów lin w Stoczni Marynarki Wojennej w Gdyni. Program wyznacza oszacowanie nieznanych warun-kowych intensywności wyjścia z podzbioru stanów niezawodnościowych wykładniczej funkcji niezawodności elementów systemu w różnych stanach eksploatacyjnych, a następnie pozwala na weryfikację hipotezy o wykładniczych dystrybuantach warunkowego czasu przebywania elementów systemu w podzbiorach stanów niezawodnościowych.
This paper presents methods for estimating unknown parameters of the exponential distribution of the system components of conditional lifetime in the reliability state subsets. There are different cases of performed empirical experiments considered, taking into account small number of realisations and non-completed investigations. Moreover, the paper presents a computer program based on these methods with an example of an application for reliability identification of the rope system in Naval Shipyard in Gdynia. The program determines the evaluation of unknown conditional intensities of departure from the reliability state subsets of the system components' exponential reliability function in variable operation states. Finally, the program allows a verification of the hypothesis about the exponential distribution of the system components' conditional lifetime in the reliability states subset.

Opis:: In this paper, a system reliability model subject to Dependent Competing Failure Processes (DCFP) with phase-type (PH) distribution considering changing degradation rate is proposed. When the sum of continuous degradation and sudden degradation exceeds the soft failure threshold, soft failure occurs. The interarrival time between two successive shocks and total number of shocks before hard failure occurring follow the continuous PH distribution and discrete PH distribution, respectively. The hard failure reliability is calculated using the PH distribution survival function. Due to the shock on soft failure process, the degradation rate of soft failure will increase. When the number of shocks reaches a specific value, degradation rate changes. The hard failure is calculated by the extreme shock model, cumulative shock model, and run shock model, respectively. The closed-form reliability function is derived combining with the hard and soft failure reliability model. Finally, a Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed model.

Opis:: This paper emphasizes on analysing and predicting the reliability of an automobile crankshaft by analysing the time to failure (TTF) through the parametric distribution function. The TTF was modelled to predict the likelihood of failure for crankshaft during its operational condition over a given time interval through the development of the stochastic algorithm. The developed stochastic algorithm has the capability to measure the parametric distribution function and validate the predict the reliability rate, mean time to failure and hazard rate. T, the algorithm has the capability to statistically validate the algorithm to obtain the optimal parametric model to represent the failure of the component against the actual time to failure data from the local automobile industry. Hence, the validated results showed that the three parameter Weibull distribution provided an accurate and efficient foundation in modelling the reliability rate when compared with the actual sampling data. The suggested parametric distribution function can be used to improve the design and the life cycle due to its capability in accelerating and decelerating the mechanism of failure based on time without adjusting the level of stress. Therefore, an understanding of the parametric distribution posed by the reliability and hazard rate onto the component can be used to improve the design and increase the life cycle based on the dependability of the component over a given period of time. The proposed reliability assessment through the developed stochastic algorithm provides an accurate, efficient, fast and cost effective reliability analysis in contrast to costly and lengthy experimental techniques.
W prezentowanej pracy przedstawiono metodę analizy oraz predykcji niezawodności wału korbowego pojazdu samochodowego opartą na analizie czasu do uszkodzenia (TTF) z wykorzystaniem funkcji rozkładu parametrycznego. W artykule, stworzono model TTF pozwalający na przewidywanie prawdopodobieństwa uszkodzenia wału korbowego w stanie pracy w danym przedziale czasu za pomocą nowo opracowanego algorytmu stochastycznego. Opracowany algorytm stochastyczny umożliwia mierzenie funkcji rozkładu parametrycznego oraz weryfikację przewidywanego współczynnika niezawodności, średniego czasu do uszkodzenia oraz współczynnika zagrożenia. Algorytm daje możliwość statystycznej weryfikacji modelu w odniesieniu do rzeczywistych danych dotyczących czasu do uszkodzenia pochodzących z lokalnego przemysłu samochodowego. Weryfikacja taka pozwala na otrzymanie optymalnego modelu parametrycznego reprezentującego uszkodzenie części składowej. Zweryfikowane wyniki wykazały, że trójparametrowy rozkład Weibulla stanowi dokładne i wydajne narzędzie do modelowania współczynnika niezawodności w zestawieniu z rzeczywistymi danymi z próby. Proponowaną dystrybuantę parametryczną można wykorzystywać do doskonalenia konstrukcji oraz cyklu życia wału korbowego ponieważ daje ona możliwość przyspieszania i zwalniania mechanizmu uszkodzenia, na podstawie czasu, bez potrzeby regulacji poziomu naprężenia. Zatem, znajomość rozkładu parametrycznego oraz obliczonych na jego podstawie współczynników niezawodności i zagrożenia omawianego elementu mechanizmu korbowego, pozwala na doskonalenie konstrukcji oraz wydłużenie cyklu życia wału korbowego w oparciu o dane dotyczące jego niezawodności w danym okresie czasu. Proponowana metoda oceny niezawodności z wykorzystaniem opracowanego w artykule algorytmu stochastycznego umożliwia dokładną, wydajną, szybką i tanią analizę niezawodności w odróżnieniu od kosztownych i czasochłonnych technik eksperymentalnych.
