Opis:
This paper proposes a methodology for observer-based fault estimation of leader-following linear multi-agent systems subject to actuator faults. First, a proportional-integral distributed fault estimation observer is developed to estimate both actuator faults and states of each follower agent by considering directed and undirected graph topologies. Second, based on the proposed quadratic Lyapunov equation, sufficient conditions for the asymptotic convergence of the observer are obtained as a set of linear matrix inequalities. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the proposed approach.

Opis:
An observer-based hybrid event-triggered sliding mode fault-tolerant consistent control strategy is proposed for actuator faults in nonlinear second-order leader-follower multi-agent systems. A fault observer is designed to obtain the velocity and additive fault of the agents at the current moment. In order to save network resources and avoid the proliferation of actuator fault information, a hybrid event-triggered mechanism is given based on the actuator fault output from the fault observer. Then, a sliding mode fault-tolerant control strategy is investigated based on the speed and hybrid event-triggered mechanism of the fault observer output and combined with a linear sliding mode surface. As a result, the multi-agent system can still realize state consistency when there is an actuator fault. Conditions under which the consistent error of the multi-agent system is bounded are given. Finally, the effectiveness of the designed fault observer, sliding mode fault-tolerant controller, and hybrid event-triggered mechanism is verified by simulation in a leader-follower multi-agent system connected by a directed graph.

Opis:
This paper proposes an H/H fault detection observer method by using generalized output for a class of polytopic linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems. As the main contribution, with the aid of the relative degree of output, a new output vector is generated by gathering the original output and its time derivative, and it is feasible to consider H actuator fault sensitivity in the entire frequency for the new system. In order to improve actuator and sensor fault sensitivity as well as guarantee robustness against disturbances, simultaneously, an H/H fault detection observer is designed for the new LPV polytopic system. Besides, the design conditions of the proposed observer are transformed into an optimization problem by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Numerical simulations are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Opis:
Industrial systems serve us in all areas of life. Faults may result in economic loss and wasting energy. Detecting the onset of faults, and determining their location are important engineering tasks. An important class of fault detection (FD) and diagnosis methods utilizes the mathematical model of the monitored system. But, the parameters required for mathematical modelling are limited or unavailable for the most real industrial engineering applications. Observer-based FD is one of the main approaches to FD and identification. At the same time, the traditional observer’s gain calculation required system model parameters. So, this article presents the design of a novel observer for FD purposes using the input–output measurements of the system with unknown parameters. This proposed observer’s design considers observer’s gain tuning, regardless of the mathematical representation of the plant. This the new feature that distinction our observer will facilitate the implementation of FD systems for many unknown parameters industrial systems. The effectiveness of the proposed observer is verified by experimental application to BLDC motor and compared with classical Luenberger observer. The experimental and comparison results prove feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed observer for FD purposes.

Opis:
Fault input channels represent a major challenge for observer design for fault estimation. Most works in this field assume that faults enter in such a way that the transfer functions between these faults and a number of measured outputs are strictly positive real (SPR), that is, the observer matching condition is satisfied. This paper presents a systematic approach to adaptive observer design for joint estimation of the state and faults when the SPR requirement is not verified. The proposed method deals with a class of Lipschitz nonlinear systems subjected to piecewise constant multiplicative faults. The novelty of the proposed approach is that it uses a rank condition similar to the observer matching condition to construct the adaptation law used to obtain fault estimates. The problem of finding the adaptive observer matrices is formulated as a Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) optimization problem. The proposed scheme is tested on the nonlinear model of a single link flexible joint robot system.

Opis:
This paper considers the problem of robust reconstruction of simultaneous actuator and sensor faults for a class of uncertain Takagi–Sugeno nonlinear systems with unmeasurable premise variables. The proposed fault reconstruction and estimation design method with H∞ performance is used to reconstruct both actuator and sensor faults when the latter are transformed into pseudo-actuator faults by introducing a simple filter. The main contribution is to develop a sliding mode observer (SMO) with two discontinuous terms to solve the problem of simultaneous faults. Sufficient stability conditions in terms linear matrix inequalities are achieved to guarantee the stability of the state estimation error. The observer gains are obtained by solving a convex multiobjective optimization problem. Simulation examples are given to illustrate the performance of the proposed observer.

Opis:
A systematic fault tolerant control (FTC) scheme based on fault estimation for a quadrotor actuator, which integrates normal control, active and passive FTC and fault parking is proposed in this paper. Firstly, an adaptive Thau observer (ATO) is presented to estimate the quadrotor rotor fault magnitudes, and then faults with different magnitudes and time-varying natures are rated into corresponding fault severity levels based on the pre-defined fault-tolerant boundaries. Secondly, a systematic FTC strategy which can coordinate various FTC methods is designed to compensate for failures depending on the fault types and severity levels. Unlike former stand-alone passive FTC or active FTC, our proposed FTC scheme can compensate for faults in a way of condition-based maintenance (CBM), and especially consider the fatal failures that traditional FTC techniques cannot accommodate to avoid the crashing of UAVs. Finally, various simulations are carried out to show the performance and effectiveness of the proposed method.

Opis:
In this paper, the robust fault detection problem for LPV singular delayed systems in the presence of disturbances and actuator faults is considered. For both disturbance decoupling and actuator fault detection, an unknown input observer (UIO) is proposed. The aim is to compute a residual signal which has minimum sensitivity to disturbances while having maximum sensitivity to faults. Robustness to unknown inputs is formulated in the sense of the H∞-norm by means of the bounded real lemma (BRL) for LPV delayed systems. In order to formulate fault sensitivity conditions, a reference model which characterizes the ideal residual behavior in a faulty situation is considered. The residual error with respect to this reference model is computed. Then, the maximization of the residual fault effect is converted to minimization of its effect on the residual error and is addressed by using the BRL. The compromise between the unknown input effect and the fault effect on the residual is translated into a multi-objective optimization problem with some LMI constraints. In order to show the efficiency and applicability of the proposed method, a part of the Barcelona sewer system is considered.

Opis:
This paper describes a robust set-membership-based Fault Detection and Isolation (FDI) technique for a particular class of nonlinear systems, the so-called flat systems. The proposed strategy consists in checking if the expected input value belongs to an estimated feasible set computed using the system model and the derivatives of the measured output vector. The output derivatives are computed using a numerical differentiator. The set-membership estimator design for the input vector takes into account the measurement noise thereby making the consistency test robust. The performances of the proposed strategy are illustrated through a three-tank system simulation affected by actuator faults.

Opis:
Despite technological advances and progress in industrial systems, the fault diagnosis of a system remains a very important task. In fact an effective diagnosis contributes not only to improved reliability but also to a decrease in maintenance costs. This paper presents an approach to a diagnosis of hybrid systems thanks to the use of Bond Graphs, Observer and Timed Automata. Dynamic models (in normal and failing mode) are generated by an observer based methods as well as through state equations generated by the Bond Graphs model. The procedure of fault localization through a method based on the observer does not allow locating faults with the same signature of failure. Thus the diagnosis technique for the localization of these defects will be based on the time analysis using Timed Automata. The proposed approach is then validated by simulation tests in a two tanks hydraulic system.
