Opis:: The ﬁrst aim of the article is to show the Elias perspective on phenomena connected with the musical life of society and to consider the ﬁguration processes connected with human practices directed at music. The author reﬂects on the dual feedback of the activities of individuals and the structural determinants conditioning those activities. As an example, she discusses Elias’s case study of the socio-cultural and historical-economic background of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s creativity. The second aim of the article is to show the possibility of applying socio-musical ﬁguration to various areas of human life associated with music, beginning with the question of the role of professional musicians and gender questions, through the political factors connected with musical creativity, and ending with the presence of music in the religious sphere and the rules governing the sacral context. Her reﬂections are premised on the idea that socio-musical life based on social norms and rules established during the civilization process is simultaneously undergoing a constant modiﬁcation and transformation on account of the subjective activities of individuals.

Opis:: Celem artykułu jest, po pierwsze, ukazanie Eliasowskiej perspektywy spojrzenia na zjawiska związane z życiem muzycznym społeczeństw. Osią podjętych rozważań są procesy figuracyjne związane z ludzkimi praktykami nakierowanymi na muzykę. Całość rozważań ukazana jest za pomocą dualnie pojętych sprzężeń: działań jednostek i warunkujących je determinant strukturalnych. W pierwszej kolejności, jako przykład, omówione zostanie Eliasowskie studium przypadku, odnoszące się do społeczno-kulturowych i historyczno-ekonomicznych uwarunkowań twórczości Wolfganga Amadeusza Mozarta. Po drugie, zadaniem artykułu jest ukazanie możliwości aplikacyjnych społeczno-muzycznych figuracji w różnych obszarach życia ludzkiego związanego z muzyką, począwszy od problematyki ról zawodowych muzyków i kwestii genderowych, poprzez uwarunkowania polityczne związane z twórczością muzyczną, a skończywszy na obecności muzyki w sferze religijnej i regułach rządzących kontekstem sakralnym. Całości rozważań przyświeca założenie, zgodnie z którym życie społeczno-muzyczne opiera się na określonych w procesie cywilizowania się społeczeństw regułach i normach społecznych, równocześnie ulegając nieustannym modyfikacjom i przekształceniom poprzez podmiotowe działania jednostek.

Opis:: The main aim of this article is to consider the topicality of the theoretical achievements of the Leicester School, formed by the students and continuers of Norbert Elias’s ideas, with Eric Dunning at their head. The author presents the main theses on stadium hooliganism which Dunning and his team formulated on the basis of a socio-historical analysis. The English researchers connect the behaviour of football fans with their class origins, with patterns of ‘street’ socialization, with masculinism, and with violence constituting an important aspect of daily life. They show that the social environment from which the majority of hooligans originate has not been included in the broader stream of the civilizational process. Then the author, in describing Polish football fans, makes use of certain elements of Norbert Elias’s process sociology (constituting Dunning’s analytical tool). History shows that the sub-culture of football fans is ‘becoming civilized’, although not in a uniform manner. The concept of ﬁguration could be a valuable analytical tool for describing the community of football fans, as it is not a society separated from the outside world, but remains in a speciﬁc interdependence with it. In the analysis, the dichotomy between ‘settlers’ and ‘outsiders’ is also helpful.

Opis:: Cel: w artykule wykazano użyteczność teorii figuracji komunikacyjnych w lepszym rozumieniu i analizie procesów komunikowania instytucjonalnego Kościoła katolickiego. Metodologia: w badaniach posłużono się metodą analizy, metodą krytyki piśmiennictwa i metodą przeglądu literatury. Jako narzędzie analizy wykorzystano koncepcję figuracji komunikacyjnych, odnosząc się do następujących właściwości figuracji: form komunikacyjnych (communicative forms), całości medialnych (media ensemble), konstelacji aktorów (constellation of actors) oraz tematycznego ramowania (thematic framing). Wnioski: koncepcja figuracji może stanowić ważny zbiór zasad właściwej polityki komunikacyjnej Kościoła, jak również podstawę do wypracowania kwestionariusza oceny stopnia saturacji medialnej. Kościół katolicki w instytucjonalny sposób wypełnia przestrzeń medialną oficjalnymi komunikatami oraz przekazem w mediach katolickich. Działalność eklezjalna w tym obszarze może stać się istotnym elementem sfery publicznej w wymiarze kulturowym i społeczno-politycznym. Oryginalność poznawcza: artykuł zwiększa wiedzę w obszarze badań nad procesami komunikowania instytucjonalnego Kościoła. W publikacji uwzględniono myśl badawczą m.in. takich przedstawicieli nauk społecznych jak A. Hepp, N. Elias, J. Mariański, J.M. La Porte, E. Fuster.
Research objective: This article demonstrates the utility of the theory of communicative figurations in enhancing the understanding and analysis of the institutional communication processes of the Catholic Church. Research methods: Method of analysis, literary criticism, literature review. The concept of communicative figurations serves as an analytical tool, examining properties such as: communicative forms, media ensemble, constellation of actors and thematic framing. Results and conclusions: The concept of figuration can provide an important set of principles for the proper communication policy of the Church, and offers a foundation for developing a questionnaire for assessing the degree of media saturation. The Catholic Church strategically populates the media space with official announcements and messages in the Catholic media. These ecclesiastical activities can become an important element of the public sphere in the cultural and socio-political dimensions. Contribution: This article enriches the understanding in the area of research on the processes of institutional communication of the Church. The publication includes the research thought of social science representatives such as A. Hepp, N. Elias, J. Mariański, J.M. La Porte, E. Fuster.

Opis:: This article attempts a sociological analysis of a specific musical trend – disco polo – through the prism of the figuration theory proposed by Norbert Elias. Street music of the 1990s was an extremely accurate musical illustration of the period of systemic transformations in Poland, because disco polo’s characteristic elements (e.g., kitsch, impermanence, and banality, as well as optimism, a sense of community, and freshness) were combined with social feelings and attitudes toward the rapidly changing reality. Disco polo documented the social life of the time, as is visible in its symbolic layer as well as in its purely musical arrangement: it was the hallmark of a generation.

Opis:: From Elias`s "The civilizing process. Sociogenetic and psychogenetic" Investigations the article extracts ideas on human historicity and shows its significance for the constitution of historical anthropology which considers the results of interdisciplinary humanistic research : philosophy, sociology, psychology. Elias places the nonfigurative subject of experience as a conceptual structure in opposition to the “total man” as a personality which includes not only ratio/ intellect/mind but also urges, emotions, passions. These are subject to shaping in interpersonal relations corresponding to historically variable forms of life. Elias`s psycho-sociological research over human historicity was preceded by Wilhelm Dilthey. Having studied the evolution of civilization consisting in a growing emotion/ affect control, Elias fills Dilthey`s conception of historical man with rich content derived from the history of customs and state forming processes as well as the development of absolutism. He uses vivid examples of the manners in which dining etiquette and approach to the opposite sex evolved to show how human functioning urges changes during the process of civilization. Human historicity means changing forms of human life and changing the structure of emotional life along with.
Artykuł wydobywa z dzieła Eliasa "O procesie cywilizacji. Analizy socjo- i psychogenetyczne" myśli na temat historyczności człowieka i ukazuje ich znaczenie dla kształtującej się antropologii historycznej, uwzględniającej rezultaty interdyscyplinarnych badań humanistycznych : filozofii, socjologii, psychologii. Abstrakcyjnemu podmiotowi poznania jako konstrukcji pojęciowej (homo clausus) Elias przeciwstawia człowieka całościowego jako osobowość, na którą składasię nie tylko ratio/intelekt, lecz również popędy, emocje, namiętności. Podlegają one modelowaniu w stosunkach międzyludzkich (figuracjach), odpowiadających zmiennym historycznie formom życia. Psychospołeczne badania Eliasa nad historycznością człowieka poprzedził filozof Wilhelm Dilthey. Badając proces rozwoju cywilizacji polegający na rosnącej kontroli afektów, Elias wypełnia Diltheya koncepcję człowieka historycznego bogactwem treści pochodzących z dziejów obyczajowości oraz procesów kształtowania się państwa i rozwoju absolutyzmu. Na barwnych przykładach zmienności form zachowania się przy stole, stosunku do drugiej płci pokazuje, jak sposób funkcjonowania ludzkich popędów zmienia się w procesie cywilizacji. Historyczność człowieka oznacza zmienność form ludzkiego życia, a wraz z nimi zmienność struktury życia emocjonalnego/świadomości/osobowości.
