Opis:: The linear-phase IIR filters are described in many cases, mainly due to distortion-free transmission of signals. One of the major problems of IIR filter design is stability, which can be obtained with suitable value of group delay τ This paper concerns calculation of filter order Ν and group delay τ in case of quasi-equiripple design of IIR filters. We propose a novel procedure for determining N and τ values; the procedure is valid for all types of filters with arbitrary number of zeros and a few non-zero poles. Evaluation of the proposed approach as well as examples illustrating its application are provided in the paper.

Opis:: The simple digital filters are not sufficient for digital modeling of systems with distributed parameters. It is necessary to apply more complex digital filters. In this work, a set of filters, called the digital function filters, is proposed. It consists of digital filters, which are obtained from causal and stable filters through some function transformation. In this paper, for several basic functions: exponential, logarithm, square root and the real power of input filter, the recursive algorithms of the digital function filters have been determined The digital function filters of exponential type can be obtained from direct recursive formulas. Whereas, the other function filters, such as the logarithm, the square root and the real power, require using the implicit recursive formulas. Some applications of the digital function filters for the analysis and synthesis of systems with lumped and distributed parameters (a long line, phase shifters, infinite ladder circuits) are given as well.

Opis:: The aim of the work is to present the method for designing sparse FIR filters with very low group delay and approximately linear-phase in the passband. Significant reduction of the group delay, e.g. several times in relation to the linear phase filter, may cause the occurrence of undesirable overshoot in the magnitude frequency response. The method proposed in this work consists of two stages. In the first stage, FIR filter with low group delay is designed using minimax constrained optimization that provides overshoot elimination. In the second stage, the same process is applied iteratively to reach sparse solution. Design examples demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Opis:: The main goals of this paper are an analysis and a simulation of selected basic structures of active EMI filters. The first part contains a presentation of selected structures of active filters, along with categorization by their properties in the field of detection and compensation of EMI noise and by the kind of feedback. Each structure's description is accompanied by an analytical discussion of their properties such as insertion loss (IL) and the impedance increase (ΔZ>sub>n). The second part contains results of simulations of the presented structures, with the aim being a comparison of their characteristics and determining proper operation conditions.

Opis:: W pracy przedstawiono stanowisko do badania filtrów analogowych. Zaproponowano rozwiązanie software’owe wspomagające analizę uzyskiwanych wyników, a także pokazano wyniki charakterystyki sygnału dla wybranych ustawień zaprojektowanych wcześniej filtrów analogowych. Dokonano interpretacji uzyskanych wyników, a także przedstawiono wnioski wynikające z tej interpretacji.
The paper presents a laboratory station for testing analog filters. A software solution, which is responsible for supporting the analysis of obtained results, was proposed. It is shown results of signal characteristics for selected settings of previously designed analog filters. The obtained results were interpreted and lead to conclusions.

Opis:: Excessive exposure to solar radiation leads to many negative effects, such as burns, photoaging and skin cancer. Sunscreen cosmetics are an important part in skin prevention against these effects. The basic components of sunscreens are filters. We distinguish inorganic (physical) and organic (chemical) filters. Each type of filter has different modes of operation and scale of protection. The filters should meet the requirements imposed on them, so they must be non-toxic, non-allergenic, stable, effective at low concentrations, compatible with other ingredients of the cosmetic and should not be able to enter the bloodstream. When choosing a sunscreen, it is important to pay attention to its protection indicator, whether it protects against the whole range of UV rays or only parts of it. Sunscreens are selected for the needs of the skin, taking into account the Fitzpatrick's scale. This work presents the structure of the skin, effects of solar radiation, ingredients of sunscreens with a thorough description of inorganic and organic filters, safety of filters and the effect of sunscreens on the level of vitamin D in the body.
Nadmierna ekspozycja na promieniowanie słoneczne prowadzi do wielu negatywnych skutków, takich jak oparzenia, fotostarzenie oraz nowotwory skórne. Kosmetyki przeciwsłoneczne stanowią ważną część w profilaktyce skóry przed tego rodzaju efektami. Podstawowymi składnikami kosmetyków ochronnych są filtry. Wyróżnia się filtry nieorganiczne (fizyczne) i organiczne (chemiczne). Każdy rodzaj filtru ma różny sposób działania i zakres ochrony. Filtry przeciwsłoneczne powinny spełniać narzucane im wymagania, czyli muszą być nietoksyczne, niealergizujące, stabilne, efektywne przy niskich stężeniach, zgodne z pozostałymi składnikami kosmetyku oraz nie powinny przedostawać się do krwioobiegu. Przy wyborze kosmetyku przeciwsłonecznego należy zwrócić uwagę na jego wskaźnik ochrony, czy chroni przed całym zakresem promieni UV, czy tylko jej części. Preparat ochronny dobiera się do potrzeb skóry, biorąc pod uwagę skalę Fitzpatricka. W pracy przedstawiono budowę skóry, działanie promieniowania słonecznego, składniki kosmetyków przeciwsłonecznych z dokładnym omówieniem poszczególnych filtrów nieorganicznych i organicznych, bezpieczeństwo filtrów oraz wpływ kosmetyków przeciwsłonecznych na poziom witaminy D w organizmie.

The analysis of higher order Butterworth filters with the use of evolutionary computation

Opis:: The paper was devoted to the issues of designing of higher order Butter-worth filters that constitute the cascade of filters with two or three poles. In order to calculate the resistance and capacity of passive elements of the filters we proposed to use the technique of evolutionary computation. Using evolutionary algorithm allows to optimize the amplitude characteristic of the filter by approaching the shape of characteristic of the ideal filter.
Artykuł został poświęcony zagadnieniom projektowania filtrów Butterwortha wyższego rzędu, czyli takich, które stanowią kaskadowe połączenie pewnej liczby filtrów dwubiegunowych lub trójbiegunowych. Na potrzeby wyznaczania wartości rezystancji i pojemności występujących w rozważanych układach kaskadowych w artykule zaproponowano wykorzystanie techniki obliczeń ewolucyjnych. Użycie algorytmu ewolucyjnego pozwala na dokonanie optymalizacji charakterystyki amplitudowej filtru kaskadowego poprzez maksymalne zbliżenie jej kształtu do charakterystyki filtru idealnego.

Opis:: W artykule rozważono wykorzystanie techniki obliczeń ewolucyjnych na potrzeby wyznaczania wartości pojemności występujących w filtrach aktywnych zrealizowanych w układzie Butterwortha. Rozważono filtr stanowiący kaskadowe połączeniu dwóch filtrów dwubiegunowych Butterwortha. Zastosowanie algorytmu ewolucyjnego pozwoliło na uzyskanie w tym wypadku czterobiegunowego filtra aktywnego o stromości charakterystyki w paśmie zaporowym 80 dB na każdą dekadę częstotliwości.
In the paper we discuss using the technique of evolutionary computation for the purpose of determining the values of capacitors in Butterworth active filters. We consider the filter which is a cascade of two Butterworth filters with two poles each. Using the evolutionary algorithm allowed us to obtained the active filter with four poles which have the steepness of characteristic in the amount of 80dB on every decade of frequency.

Opis:: Underwater acoustic channels are characterized by multipath phenomenon whose characteristics are time varying. Multipath propagation contributes to signal fading, and causes intersymbol interference (ISI) in a digital communication system. Raised cosine filters are widely used in wireless communication systems and the effects of these filters are crucial to wireless communication systems, for example underwater communication systems. Pulse shaping filters are commonly used in digital data communication systems to limit intersymbol interference. Thus, digital filters have been recognized as primary digital signal processing operation. In order to apply DSP algorithms to wireless communication systems high density Field Programmable Gate Arrays have recently emerged as ideal implementation platforms for digital filters due to its potential speed and flexibility. This paper presents the design and implementation of FIR filters using FPGA technology. The following architectures of filters are studied: multiply and accumulate (MAC) standard FIR filter, parallel transposed FIR filter, and direct-form filter using Distributed Arithmetic (DA). The proposed filters have been designed and synthesized with ISE software, and implemented with a Virtex-II FPGA device.

Opis:: This paper presents a reconfigurable and programmable analogue low pass filter for low voltage wireless applications. The proposed filter may be used for channel or band selection in multi-mode receiver front ends employing direct frequency conversion. The circuit has been synthesized using state variables and leapfrog OTA-C techniques, features programmable order, digitally variable frequency parameters and wide linear range. The fundamental OTA cell has been implemented with fully balanced second-generation current conveyors, suitable for operating with low supply voltages. Transistor level simulations based on a 180 nm digital CMOS technology have demonstrated the functionality of the design.
