Opis:
The shape and drag of bodies with small stiffness may change during the airflow. This problem refers to such bodies as flags, bands, banners, flapping sails as well as blades and cables which vibrate due to the flow. Laboratory tests carried out to point out the aerodynamic drag coefficient of a flag are discussed in this article. The laboratory tests were carried out in an aerodynamic tunnel at different airflow velocities for flags with different dimensions made of fabrics of different roughness and stiffness. The drag coefficient value decreases with the increasing airflow velocity. The drag coefficient is higher for materials with higher roughness. The drag coefficient value is also influenced by the fabric stiffness and kind of edge. Great engineering importance to the stability of a structure (e.g. a flag mast) and the safety of nearby persons and buildings are attached to the analyzed problem.

The effect of 3xFLAG tag on ribonuclease activity of MCPIP1

MCPIP1 is involved in the immune response because it is a negative regulator of inflammation. In its structure it contains the RNA-binding zinc finger CCCH-type domain and the PIN domain that is responsible for the ribonuclease activity of the protein. MCPIP1 degrades transcripts of many proinflammatory molecules, such as IL-1β, IL-6, or IL-12b, and miRNAs precursor molecules. Due to the important role of MCPIP1 protein in cellular processes, it is extensively investigated, using protein tags, including FLAG tag. The 3xFLAG tag sequence attached to the 5 'end of the MCPIP1 gene allows for easier detection of the protein with tag-specific antibodies.The aim of the experiment was to investigate whether the 3xFLAG tag had an effect on ribonuclease activity of the protein. For this purpose, a vector coding the MCPIP1 protein with a 3xFLAG tag attached at the 5` end was prepared and compared of its RNase activity with endogenous MCPIP1 using the luciferase reporter gene system.Based on the data obtained, there was no negative effect of the 3xFLAG tag on the ribonuclease activity of MCPIP1 protein.
Białko MCPIP1 jest zaangażowane w odpowiedź immunologiczną, bowiem jest negatywnym regulatorem stanu zapalnego. W swojej strukturze zawiera domenę palca cynkowego typu CCCH oddziałującą z RNA oraz domenę PIN, która odpowiada za aktywność RNazową białka. MCPIP1 degraduje transkrypty wielu cząsteczek prozapalnych, np. IL-1β, IL-6, czy IL-12b oraz cząsteczki prekursorowego miRNAs. Ze względu na istotną rolę białka MCPIP1 w procesach komórkowych jest ono intensywnie badane, do czego przydatne są znaczniki białkowe, m.in. metka FLAG. Sekwencja metki 3xFLAG dołączona do końca 5` genu kodującego MCPIP1 umożliwia łatwiejszą detekcję białka z wykorzystaniem przeciwciał specyficznych wobec metki.Celem przeprowadzonego doświadczenia było zbadanie, czy metka 3xFLAG ma wpływ na aktywność rybonukleazową białka. W tym celu przygotowano wektor kodujący białko MCPIP1 z dołączoną na końcu 5` metką 3xFLAG i porównano jego aktywność RNazową z endogennym MCPIP1, wykorzystując system genu reporterowego lucyferazy.Na podstawie otrzymanych danych nie stwierdzono negatywnego wpływu metki 3xFLAG na aktywność rybonukleazową białka MCPIP1.

According to the author, in the Polish legal system there is no regulation concerning the flag protocol. Therefore, the rules of diplomatic protocol as well as heraldry and vexillology customs are applied which allow for flying, apart from the national flag, also other symbols of states or international organizations. The author claims that, due to lack of provisions governing competence to determine which authority is an appropriate body for adopting flag protocols for particular public administration buildings, this should be the power of the Marshal (Speaker) of the Sejm, who – according to the Standing Orders of the Sejm – ensures order and decorum within the precincts of the Chamber.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie postrzegania ekspozycji flag przez młode pokolenie. Wykorzystano zarówno dotychczasowe badania autorki na temat współczesnych form, funkcji i zmienności eksponowania flag na przykładzie Gdyni, jak i dotąd nie upublicznione badania percepcji flag. Te ostatnie przeprowadzono przy pomocy ankiety audytoryjnej wśród studentów Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego w 2015 i 2023 r. Zapytano o rodzaj i miejsce spotykania flag w codziennym życiu, jak i ocenę ilości flag czasowo wywieszanych podczas różnego rodzaju świąt oraz stale obecnych w przestrzeni. W opinii studentów więcej flag jest podczas świąt a mniej na stałe wiszących. Najbardziej powszechną jest flaga państwa polskiego a ulica i instytucja – to miejsca, gdzie flagi są najczęściej obserwowane.
The purpose of the article is to present the younger generation’s perception of flag display. Both the author’s previous research on the contemporary forms, functions and variability of flag display based on the example of Gdynia and hitherto unpublished work on the perception of flags were used. The latter was conducted with the help of an auditorium survey of students at the University of Gdansk in 2015 and 2023. They were asked about the type and location of flags they encountered in everyday life, and they were asked to make an assessment of the number of flags temporarily displayed during various holidays and permanently present. In the students’ opinion, more flags are displayed during holidays and fewer hang permanently. The flag of the Polish state is the most common, and streets and institutions are the places where flags are observed most often.

This review presents the author's views on the book Red and White, which deals with the multivariance of color symbolism of the political language of revolutions in France and Russia. Writers' ideas about color political language of that historical period are reflected in their literary works. The characteristic features of white, red, black and blue colors, which carry an active visual call at all times, are highlighted and described. Conducting his own analysis of the identity of the color palette of the French tricolor and Russian tricolor flags, the author of the article is based on the principles of perception of color by representatives of various ethnic groups, based on the experience of processing external impressions and mentality.
