Opis:: The comments made by Professor Joshi are a most welcome addition to the findings presented by us (Fort et al., 2010). We agree that many valuable studies in the past dealt with experimental investigation of turbulent velocity field in stirred systems with axial high-speed impellers. Therefore it would be highly desirable to present a comprehensive comparison of the efficiency of various types of impellers, especially for their optimum design for processes in chemical and biochemical industries. Nevertheless in such a comparison it should be taken to consideration the quality and reliability of experimental data, because both chosen experimental techniques and selected independent variables (position of impeller, viscosity and density of agitated liquid, etc.) have to be well defined and comparable in all investigated stirred systems.

Opis:: A pontoon bridge, also known as a floating bridge, can be used as for pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The buoyancy of the floating bridge limits the maximum load it can carry. This research included experimental runs to study variations of open channel flow characteristics upstream and downstream a floating bridge. Eighty one runs have been carried out using a flume in a hydraulic laboratory. The experimental run program is classified into two main categories; the first investigates the velocity ratios (vds/vus) downstream and upstream the floating bridge. The second category is concerned with the energy head losses (hL) due to the presence of a floating bridge. The experimental runs are carried out using three pontoon lengths, three flow depths, six submerged depths, and three discharges. The results are analysed and graphically presented to help predict hydraulic parameters. The outcomes have shown that the floating bridge upstream, Froude number and submergence of the pontoon are the dominant parameters that affect the studied flow characteristics.

Opis:: Fort et al. (2010) have written another useful article on flow characteristics generated by axial high speed impellers. I agree with the authors that the knowledge of flow patterns is crucial for developing reliable design procedures for instance, for mixing and blending (Baldyga and Bourne, 1997; Nienow, 1997; Ranade et al., 1991), for solid suspension (Raghva Rao et al., 1988; Zwietering, 1958), for gas induction (Joshi and Sharma, 1977) and bioreactions where controlled shear is important (Joshi et al., 1996). With this context, the work of Fort et al. (2010) needs some clarification and further extension.

Opis:: W niniejszej pracy przedstawiono ocenę zmienności natężenia przepływów charakterystycznych rzeki Sama przed (lata 1973–1983) i po (lata 2004–2012) wybudowaniu na rzece zbiornika retencyjnego Radzyny. Zlewnia rzeki o powierzchni 448,4 km²znajduje się na Pojezierzu Wielkopolskim. W latach 1998–2000 na rzece wybudowano dwie zapory, które utworzyły zbiornik wodny Radzyny o powierzchni 109,4 ha i pojemności 2,88 mln m³. Porównanie wielkości przepływów rzeki w latach 1973–1983 przed wybudowaniem zbiornika i w latach 2004–2012 po wybudowaniu wykazało, że piętrzenie wody w zbiorniku przyczyniło się do zmniejszenia przepływów zwłaszcza w półroczu zimowym. Pojemność czynna zbiornika wyniosła 2,3 mln m³ i stanowiła 7,8% średniego rocznego odpływu, a wskaźnik zaburzenia reżimu hydrologicznego wyniósł 29% przy wartości progowej 10%.
This paper presents an assessment of water flow rates variability of the river Sama before (1973–1983) and after (2004–2012) the construction of the Radzyny reservoir on the river. The studied catchment, with an area of 448.4 km², is located in the Pojezierze Wielkopolskie. During years 1998–2000, on the river two dams were built that formed the Radzyny water reservoir with an area of 109.4 hectares and a capacity of 2.88 mln m³. Comparison of the size of river flows during years 1973–1983, before reservoir building, and for period 2004–2012, after the construction, showed that damming a water in the tank has reduced flows, especially in the winter half-year. The active capacity of the reservoir was 2.3 mln m³ and accounted for 7.8% of the average annual runoff and the rate of abnormal hydrological regime amounted to 29% of a threshold of 10%.

Opis:: The poppet control valve is one of the most widespread hydraulic components. The paper purpose is the evaluation of flow characteristics of poppet valve by means of a complete numerical analysis. The aim of this analysis is to evaluate the valve fluid dynamic performance, exploiting computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques, in order to give the reliable indications needed to define the valve design criteria and avoid expensive experimental tests. The numerical analysis was performed by using the commercial code of CFD, and the numerical results show the complete flow field inside the valve. Axisymmetric as well as three-dimensional valve model was considered and the simulation results also are verified with experimental results. The results have confirmed the good accuracy of the simplified CFD analysis based on 2D axisymmetric valve model being more efficient than full 3D approach and show this method as very useful to forecast flow characteristics of poppet control valves. Hydraulic control poppet valve, distribution of the velocity in layers of the fluid, computational grid in the modelled geometry, pressure distribution for axisymmetric and three-dimensional mode for different flow rate, fluid velocity distribution in valve metering section for axisymmetric and three-dimensional model for different flow rates, the example of streamlines, the comparison of flow characteristics are contained in the publication.

Opis:: The stable transportation of pulverized coal in the vertical pipe is significant for the operation of the gasifier. There are few studies on the flow characteristics and flow pattern transition of particles in vertical pipes with small diameters. This paper has modeled and analyzed the flow characteristic of powder in dense-phase pneumatic conveying through 25 mm vertical pipe using CFD. Firstly, the grid independence is verified to determine the optimal mesh size. Then, the influences of different solid loading ratios (SLRs) and conveying velocities on particle flow characteristics, flow stability, and flow pattern transition are investigated. The results show that the flow pattern in the vertical pipe changes from annular flow to uniform flow at high SLR and low conveying velocity. Moreover, the evolution regulation of resistance characteristics under different conveying velocities is further revealed. Considering the conveying stability and economic benefit, the most suitable conveying velocity is 6 m/s

Opis:: Polyurethanes are materials usable in wide spectrum of applications. This article is aimed at the properties tailoring of selected polymers by an alteration in initial materials. To achieve that goal, we proposed form the polyurethane matrix by mixing materials that have a different ratio of the initial components. Mathematical model has been developed that describes relationship of structure and strength, deformation, rheological and tribotechnical characteristics of linear block-polyurethanes based on oligoether blends. Oligoethers blend samples were obtained by injection moulding on an automatic thermoplastication machine with varying proportions of the starting components over the whole concentration range. A significant change of properties over the whole concentration range was observed and compositions with unique combination of characteristics have been determined. Obtained dependencies allow to predict the composition of the binary mixture with a tailored level of strength, deformation, rheological and tribotechnical characteristics. The obtained results are fully consistent with the practical experience of processing and exploitation of initial polyurethanes.

In the paper an arrangement and principle of work of a measurement stand for investigations of flow parameters of pneumatic elements are described. The thermal flow-meter Setaram U70, Venturi tube and calibrated orifice is applied in this stand. A method of measurements of flow characteristics for pneumatic elements, air preparation unit FR (filter, pressure regulator), are presented.

Opis:: W pracy omówiono badania decydujące o efektywności gaśniczej własności przepływowych dwóch nowoczesnych prądownic wodnych Turbo Master i Turbo Twist. Ogólnie scharakteryzowano obydwie prądownice i stanowisko pomiarowe, na którym przeprowadzono badania. Opisano zastosowaną metodykę pomiarową. Zaprezentowano w postaci graficznej otrzymane wyniki a także podano funkcje, przy pomocy których aproksymowano charakterystyki przepływowe. Na końcu podano wnioski sformułowane na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań zawierające m.in. porównanie otrzymanej stałej wypływu z wymaganiami normowymi.
Investigations of flow characteristics and exhaust constant of two current water nozzles Turbo Master and Turbo Twist were described in this paper. They are important from extinguishing effectiveness point of view. A general features of both nozzles and measuring stand are given. A measuring methods are also pointed out. Results obtained during experiments are presented in graphical form. Flow characteristics approximated by means of second-order polynomial functions are included in the tables. Conclusions formulated on a basis of the results are pointed out in the last section of this paper.
